where: the American Bar in the Savoy Hotel who: @la-petitmortss when: midafternoon Technically, Bora had promised his mother he'd help unload a shipment of antiques from up north. But the truck had come early, and Bora had worked late the night before, and his brothers had ended up unloading before Bora got there. By then his mother was fully occupied with sorting and pricing the new merchandise, so she'd shooed him away from looking through it. But he'd managed to escape with an envelope of photos, and now he sits at the bar of the Savoy hotel, ice melting in his half-finished Tom Collins as he flips through the old pictures, learning about strangers he'll never meet. --At least, until Charlotte comes in. Catching the glimpse of movement in the mirror behind the bar, he looks up and rolls his eyes. "You couldn't go anywhere else?" But he slides over nonetheless, so she too can use the mirror to watch the rest of the room behind them, even as he flags down the bartender and orders a whiskey straight. "I'm going to need something stronger to deal with this."

Hanky Panky !
Actor and theater producer Sir Charles Hawtrey needed some magic when he wandered into the American Bar at London’s Savoy Hotel in the early 1920s, looking for a drink. “Coley,” he said, “I’m half dead. What can you do to make me quite alive?”
The “Coley” in question was Ada “Coley” Coleman, head bartender at the Savoy and, at the time, perhaps the most famous female bartender in the world. Her father died in 1899 when she was 24, and being unmarried found herself with a sudden and somewhat urgent need for a job.
She got hired at a London hotel arranging flowers, then moved to the bar, and then ultimately transferred to the big leagues, to the American Bar at the elegant Savoy Hotel. She was a gifted bartender, endlessly charming, and quickly worked her way up to head bartender, where she served for 22 years.
She hosted Mark Twain, Charlie Chaplain, the Prince of Wales… it goes on and on. “It was she who made the bar famous,” asserts cocktail historian Ted Haigh, and indeed, when she retired in 1925, at least two different London newspapers published articles documenting her legacy.
Ingredients:
1.5 oz Dry Gin
1.5 oz Sweet Vermouth
2 dashes Fernet Branca
1 Twisted orange peel as garnish
Instructions:
Add all ingredients at once to your mixing glass and also add plenty of ice.
Stir until the drink is well-chilled.
Strain into your chilled cocktail glass and garnish with the twisted orange peel.

Fare thee well 16.11.22
As I’ve quoted before and I think I will roll it out for a wee while, where do I begin.
No hardcore CAAMP fans in tents outside early queuing for tomorrows show! I mean absolute shocker.
We’d like to thank the local catering company for leaving their cardboard boxes outside for making the stone marble steps so much more hospitable to sit on!! I mean what’s not to love about 3 layers OF padding to put some bounce into the day.
Night two at Shepherd’s Bush empire. Still soaking it all in from last night. Here we are again. Another international line up of queuers, Uk, the states, fresh from Florida and Denmark. A colder day perhaps or is that #tiredness
A very causal day, I can highly recommend the cheese and tomato sour dough toastie from the green cafe KAVE next to the venue, and the black bean beef rice dish from the Noodle bar. Both very tasty. 9/10 for sure.
Some rain and a bit chilly but all good.
Monica Martin and Jake Sherman opened again, Monica in outfit number two tonight and hair down. Looked amazing loved the white cowboy boots. Boot envy.
She complimented the crowd on being quiet 🤫 and then I thought the mumbling got louder! Bugger. She did well. Another get set.
Showtime. Personally feeling more looser and relaxed about what was to come, I also felt Marcus felt a little less pressure than night 1. Said he loved this venue and loved being H.O.M.E
Never sure what a London crowd will bring on a Wednesday night but they were very appreciative and respectful… full of love.
You could have knocked us all down with a feather when the opener was Lovers Eyes 👀. What a treat. Second time playing on this tour. Evening made already!
Solo The cave and then the band joined Marcus on stage.
Let the album begin:
Banter:
Marcus stated he didn’t like silence between song changes so does some “chat”. Recalls a time from the US tour when he used the C*nt word 13 times at a show and then realised a 6 year old was in the audience. You can use the C*nt word much easier in the Uk apparently. It’s like f*ck was 20 years ago!! Much more open to it.
Mixing it up from the set list after Better off High the band leaves and we get Dinks Song. This went down very well. What a treat.
Marcus said the band were delighted to be experiencing all London had to offer…. Rain cold dark grey days etc but Mason, stage left was embracing the real heart of London and went to the Savoy!! A quick straw poll of how many of the audience had been there and Marcus proved his point!!
What a joy Go in light is with Monica. There vocals are so angelic together. You just want it to go on longer.
Little bit of banter with a lady down the front, Marcus thinking there as another medical emergency, however her fiend only wanted to embarrass her and she only wanted to say hello as he met her in 2015 or something!!
A lot of friends and family in the house tonight as it was a coming home London show. #jasonSudeikis
There are no words still for the beauty of Stonecatcher and How. Just beautiful.
Back on with Cowboy and who doesn’t love a Taylor Swift song, he has a great cowboy twang.
Ending with
WIGMHOY - epic
Kansas City - epic
Timshel dropped
I will wait unplugged. Always #special
Post show wanderings in the rain, we didn’t chance the Chicken 126 a second time. Golden Arches all the way. On a wet and windy Wednesday night it’s mad to see how busy it was. 007 all the way. Cold McPlant has always been a favourite.
It’s over too soon goodbyes to our American buddies. Safe travels home. Always a pleasure. Until #lemons.

One of the greatest hidden gems of downtown Tampa is Hotel Bar, located across the street from our hotel on N Tampa Street and a fantastic place to get excellent cocktails. Their main menu is comprised of cocktails that originated in famous hotel bars, ranging from The American Bar in The Savoy in London to The Carousel Bar in Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans. The space is cozy and comfortable and has a solid happy hour from 4PM to 6PM during the week, and it’s a great place to meet a friend for a drink or to impress a date before heading off for dinner.

Hanky Panky Cocktail Bar in Mexico 🇲🇽
This is the kind of speakeasy, named after the potent cocktail concocted by Ada Coleman at The Savoy in London in the early 20th century with a space dedicated to her.
Speakeasies are usually and correctly associated with American Prohibition (1920–33), but the word actually goes back to the late 1880s in the United States, and back even further in Australia (the 1830s). Speakeasies are so named not because the customers were quiet, shy, or taciturn, but because no one wanted to attract the attention of unsympathetic neighbours, the local police, or the revenuers by talking too loudly.
Tumblr media
Ada Coleman, (1875–1966) was head bartender at the Savoy Hotel in London for 23 years, one of only two women to have held that position. While working at the Savoy, she invented the "Hanky Panky", a cocktail. first started working at London’s Claridge’s Hotel in 1899, but soon moved on to the Savoy Hotel’s American Bar, where she became known as “Coley.”
Tumblr media
She eventually became head bartender at the Savoy and is known for inventing the now-famous Hanky Panky cocktail for the contemporary actor Sir Charles Hawtrey, a celebrated Georgian actor who frequented the establishment. She also helped train her famous successor, Harry Craddock, who would go on to include many of Coleman's recipes in his "Savoy Cocktail Book."
Tumblr media
The Hanky-Panky is a variation on the sweet martini since it calls for gin and sweet vermouth, but Coley's secret ingredient was Fernet-Branca, a bitter Italian digestive. By adding a couple of dashes of this herbal elixir, she transformed it into a whole new drink.
Tumblr media
Hanky Panky
Ingredients
11/2 ounces gin
11/2 ounces sweet vermouth
2 dashes Fernet-Branca
Garnish: orange twist
Steps
Add the gin, sweet vermouth and Fernet-Branca into a mixing glass with ice and stir until well chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange twist.
After all this time, this is still one of the best drinks ever...VERY very tasty. Thanks, Coley!🍸

World Junior Recap Day 2
This is what happens when Macklin plays. A 5 point performance by Celebrini (2024 Draft eligible) seals a Canadian double digit pounding of the Latvians. Not much to say about this game, these are the kinds of mean nothing games for the big teams in the tournament. It is as close to a guaranteed win as you can get, and that is exactly the performance Canada put forth.
While the score itself did not change the bar for the Canadians, we did see some great individual performances that can lead to momentum throughout the short tournament. Yes, multiple things can be true at once. Let's start off negative here, I am a canucks fan if you didn’t know, it's in my nature. Matthew Poitras (BOS, 2022 2nd), the lone NHL player for the Canadians scored but overall did not shine. His line did not have puck possession time like they did against the Fins, and eventually the trio of Matthew Savoie (BUF, 2022 1st), Easton Cowan (TOR, 2023 1st), and the aforementioned Poitras were broken up in favor of some higher quality drivers. The reigning QMJHL MVP Jordan Dumais (CBJ 2022, 3rd) also did not impress, looking out of place as lines were juggled later into the game. While I cannot foresee Poitras being the 13th forward due to his NHL experience, look for Dumais to be on the outside looking in as we have seen some other players step up.
While I’ve spoken enough about Celebrini, I think my 3 stars outside of him would be Matthew Wood (NSH, 2023 1st), Connor Geekie (ARI, 2022 1st) and Carson Rehkopf (SEA, 2023 2nd). All 3 were electric and put up multi-point games in the victory. Look for them to feature more heavily as the tournament runs on, especially beside MVP Mac.
Across the Tournament:
Slovakia continues to roll with a 3-0 shutout versus the Swiss, Gajan (CHI, 2023 2nd) is scary good and can steal games here. The Slovaks are scary, and a NYE matchup with the Americans will determine their fate in the group.
Czechia pounds Norway 8-1 in a routine victory, highlighted by dueling hat tricks for Kulich (BUF, 2022 1st) and Sale (SEA, 2023 1st).
Germany does the impossible and upsets Finland, backed by strong overall defensive play and 2 goals from Veit Oswald (2024 Draft eligible). This complicates things in group A. We know first place is likely to be Canada or Sweden, but there is now a likely scenario where Finland can finish 4th in the group.

DIA 15 DE AGOSTO DE 2023 : NA ARGENTINA, VITÓRIA ASSUSTADORA DA EXTREMA DIREITA ; AINDA OS DRY MARTINIS AGORA EM LONDRES E O FIM DOS PÊSSEGOS ROSA DE COLARES : triste noticia política na “minha ” Argentina .
Outro premio ao American Bar do The Savoy.

Cheers!!!

Bartender 2 vanilla
Tumblr media
#BARTENDER 2 VANILLA MANUAL#
It therefore lacks traditional employment protections and so has a high turnover. In the United Kingdom, bar work is often not regarded as a long-term profession (unless the bartender is also the landlord), but more often as a second occupation, or transitional work for students to gain customer experience or to save money for university fees. And you have to be balanced physically, emotionally and mentally.” By country United Kingdom Kathy Sullivan, owner of Sidecar Bartending, expressed the difficulties with becoming a prolific bartender, comparing the bartender to the drink they make: “In drinks you want balance. Ĭocktail competitions such as World Class and Bacardi Legacy have recognized talented bartenders in the past decade and these bartenders, and others, spread the love of cocktails and hospitality throughout the world. It includes specialized education - European Bartender School operates in 25 countries. This view of bartending as a career is changing around the world, however, and bartending has become a profession by choice rather than necessity. The reason for this is because bartenders in tipping countries such as Canada and the United States, can make significant money from their tips. The bartending profession was generally a second occupation, used as transitional work for students to gain customer experience or to save money for university fees. Bartending has often been associated with the struggles of marginalized groups in the workforce, such as African-American women. "Barmaids", as they were called, were usually the daughters of tradesmen or mechanics or, occasionally, young women from the "better-born" classes who had been "thrown upon their own resources" and needed an income.
#BARTENDER 2 VANILLA MANUAL#
Harry Johnson wrote a bartending manual and established the first bar management consulting agency.Īt the turn of the 20th century, slightly less than half the bartenders in London were women, such as Ada Coleman. "Professor" Jerry Thomas established the image of the bartender as a creative professional. The pioneers of bartending as a serious profession appeared in the 19th century. It was perceived through the lens of ethical issues and various legal constraints related to the serving of alcohol. Historically, bartending was a profession with a low reputation. Blue Blood - Larry's 1958 Chrysler 300D
Chrysler's 1958 300 D strikes all of the right late-1950s chords: quad headlamps, gaping egg-crate grille, thundering V-8 power and towering tailfins. Yet the 300 kept its sporting composure by eschewing broad swaths of side trim molding and tri-color paint schemes, which in turn has helped its styling endure, decade after decade.
Today these Hemi-powered cruisers are as unusual as they are striking: For '58, just 618 hardtops and 191 convertibles were built to roam America's freshly paved postwar highways. The 300 series Chryslers have always been special and valuable cars among their admirers (even those vintages that weren't all that special) and the success of the modern Chrysler 300 has probably made the series recognizable to a wider audience. But while you can point to certain areas of the hobby, European sports cars, for instance, and wonder if a bubble is about to burst, 1950s American car values have remained stable over the past decade.
The 300's story begins with the C-300, a gorgeous two-door hardtop wearing Virgil Exner's "Forward Look" design--solid lifters, two Carter WFB 550-cfm carburetors, 8.5:1 compression--and which guaranteed the 300 horses promised by the badges on the grille and trunk lid. Just 1,725 of these 4,005-pound coupes were produced, and they sold for more than $4,000 each--about double the price of a new '55 Plymouth Savoy.
For 1956, Chrysler rolled out the 300 B, looking very similar to the '55, but with more pronounced tailfins and a harder-hitting Hemi engine. For the new model year, the big V-8 had grown to 354-cu.in. and belted out 340 hp in base trim or 355 hp with an optional factory tune-up. The car had also gained 12-volt electricals.
An all new 300 C emerged for 1957, demonstrating that Exner's Forward Look had gained a lot of ground. The boldly styled car rode on an all-new chassis with torsion bar front suspension and was powered by a 392-cu.in. Hemi, with 375 hp in base tune. With 10:1 compression and a more aggressive camshaft, the Hemi could pump out 390 hp.
The 1958 300 D would be the last of the series to use the 392, but the base engine got a boost to 380 hp. An electronic fuel-injection system, the Bendix Electrojector, was introduced for the 390-hp Hemi, but was recalled by Chrysler and replaced with the conventional two-four intake and carburetors.
