#The End Of Boreal

I was reading through OrokinArchive (it's a very cool website, I 100% recommend checking it out) and I spotted something I never really noticed. The archons are people. Moreover, they remind me of three types of people in the origin system.
Let me begin with the Owl. Solitary and thinking himself above all, only recognizing the Ram as an equal, Boreal feels hatred for what was done to him. Mutilated, grafted onto the body of this abomination. Just like Umbra, just like Dagath, and perhaps like Arthur. Unwillingly turned into a weapon. In a way, Pazuul is his revenge for what Erra had done to him.
Amar has the least about him in this tale. The Wolf was simply a hunter with no prey. I can't say much about him unless there's something in his codex entry that I don't have. My best guess is that he actively chose to become an archon, promised this New Creation and hoped to become a lord of Tau. The only parallel I can draw is of the Zariman colonists. Choosing (probably not entirely of their own volition) to go on a dangerous mission to Tau and hoping for a new and better life. Instead they became a weapon of something greater. Just like Amar but did not become a trophy like he did.
Finally, the Snake. Nira is old, full of secrets, and with a forked silver tongue. Her venom poisoning those it afflicts with delusions. The Snake would go so far as to devour her own siblings. Nira reminds me of the Orokin and their greed. A class of people who'd keep secrets from their entire empire, sweet talkers who would always get what they wanted regardless of how many they'd hurt. Yet they were greedy, willing to descend into delusional madness to get what they want.
I don't think Pazuul is the Ram. I believe that the Lotus is wrong. I think Pazuul is simply a cruel mask placed on Erra to get what the archons want. Besides, keeping Natah's brother under what is essentially a veil. Playing with her guilt at times, and forcing her to hear one of her greatest failures? Sounds like something at least Boreal would do.
And well, Pazuul doesn't have his own shard color. In his head is a fragment of a serpent's amber venom. Feeding him delusions to keep the herd of bios subservient.

I want to share people my Tav, so here's a link to a google doc that contains some basic information and backstory about her:
Throughout most of the game, she had purple streaks in her hair, but she got rid of them in act 3.

Love your art so much. Will you show us cool nature pics from your country? I'm literally so stoned I forgot where you live sorry.
Sure anon, why not. I'm not a photographer so the quality of these is kind of slushy at best. I like nature and wander around a little bit, but I rarely hike properly, so I don't go to that many scenic places. These are mostly from regular walks. Long post warning.
Summers are short but very green, and since we're at the arctic circle we get sunlight around the clock. Some of these were taken at midnight or early morning small hours. Most of Finland is very sparsely populated and covered in boreal forests.

Finland is a very watery country, lots of lakes in particular.

Sometimes you get intense sunsets
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And winters are very cold, snowy and last about six months. In summer we have midnight sun and in winter there's the polar night to counter it. Around late December sun only rises for about two hours per day where I live so it's very dark for many, many weeks on end (which is wonderful if you get seasonal depression like I do). But sometimes the weather and lighting are just right and you get this ethereal pastel effect that I love.

The Marans
Homeplanet: Mara, Frontier Habitat: Varied; dependent on sub-species Lifespan: 60 years Diet: Opportunistic Omnivore
An interesting mix of mustilid and primate, the Marans are a varied group of six-limbed aliens originally from the planet Mara. They are nimble climbers and strong swimmers depending on sub-species, and all generally find greater comfort in walking on four limbs (one set of legs, one set of arms) instead of two. Dislike of being seen as 'animalistic' force more proud Marans to walk on their legs to be seen as equals to their bipedal alien neighbors. Only the Ysk lack a prehensile tail.
More about the Maran subspecies and dimorphism under the cut.
Due to an eighty-year long world war (which has since come to an end), massive displacement and casualties have reduced their numbers drastically. So much so that, evidently, three sub-species are completely lost.
Cosí - the largest surviving pool. Typically found in savannahs, grasslands, and temperate forest zones.
Ysk - the second largest surviving pool. Favors oceanic and coastal zones (tropical, temperate, and polar), but can be found around landlocked lakes and rivers.
Èlais - the smallest surviving pool. Restricted to tundras and taigas (boreal forests).
Amora - only found on the planet of Frontier, and has a smaller pool then Ysk but more then Èlais. Adapted for Frontier's rocky backcountry and temperate shrublands. Speculated to be a mix of Ysk and Cosí lineage due to their large populations on Frontier.
Marans are a two-sex species, and dimorphism is most prominant in the Cosí subspecies. Sexual discrimination is common, with Mari being seen as the superior sex and Marè restricted to more subserviant roles. Referring to Marè as 'female' (due to possessing a uterus) and Mari as 'male' (due to possesing a penis and testicles) is seen as inaccurate and human-centric in the eyes of Marans.

12 birds down! In order: albatross, crane, crow vulture, toucan, flamingo, hoardgull, pelican, songbird, lush caves goliathia, deep-dark bird of paradise, end potoo
These are all for my mod, Valley of Plenty! Though it's kinda an art project too, I really like modeling birds. I have a tag for the mod, everything I've posted is under that tag (on this post too!), and I'm doing an AMA right now for it, but...

Ever since Crystalized came out, there's been this theory circulating that the reason the Overlord somehow managed to manifest crystal power seemingly out of nowhere and with no explanation (at least, none that I can find/remember), is because his fight with Zane affected his power in some way.
The main evidence for this is that:
Zane was the last person to fight the Overlord
Ice is technically a crystalline structure, depending on how it's formed, and Zane is the master of ice
When Harumi was first resurrected, she found the Overlord's spirit imbued into a purple crystal
As evidenced by past seasons, the Overlord's power seems to be influenced by his circumstances and environment in the wake of his last defeat. During Rebooted, a tech center was built over his resting place, and he ended up taking on the abilities and limitations of a computer virus. And in this case, the theory suggests that the Overlord's power was then influenced again by all the ice surrounding him as Zane destroyed both of their physical forms.
This does, to some extent, seem to fall in line with everything else we know about the Overlord. The Overlord is a being of shadow and darkness, and the shape of a shadow will always be influenced by the light around it. (And if we want to get into the theory that the Overlord was created as a result of the FSM trying to purge the oni blood from his veins, then you could even bring up the fact that the oni are shapeshifters sooo).
Now, I'll be the first to admit that this theory is ultimately pretty circumstantial, and there's nothing in canon to point to it being explicitly true. BUT, the cool thing about this theory is that it does also retroactively solve another big fandom mystery: that is, it explains how Zane survived his fight with the Overlord.
Let me explain.
When Zane came back to life after his fight with the Digital Overlord, while it was never outright explained how he did so, it was implied that he came back the same way the Overlord had: by spiritually manifesting within the systems at Borg Tower - specifically, the Digiverse. But that doesn't really answer the question, does it?
Like, the Overlord coming back as a spiritual manifestation makes sense. He's a regenerative being, an immortal abstraction of all the evil in the world. And Zane, as far as we know, is very much not that. So what could have happened to cause Zane, a nindroid, to end up being resurrected in the same way as the god of darkness? Why did he come back to life, instead of passing onto the afterlife? Even Lloyd, the special-est boy in all Ninjago, made a quick visit to the Departed Realm and only came back because the FSM said he could.
And true, it's certainly possible that Zane had a similar encounter with the FSM. Or that his power source is responsible for his resurrection, and just as we may never know how his power source works he may also never know how it brought him back to life. Those are all very possible solutions, and you're welcome to just accept those ideas and move one.
But if you're like me and you don't find those answers particularly satisfying, here's another possibility:
Just as Zane's power has influenced the Overlord, the Overlord's power has influenced Zane. In the explosion of Golden Power that caused both of them to be destroyed in unison, their souls became intertwined. So yes, Zane was meant to die. And judging by his account of the situation in Decoded, he did die. And maybe a peaceful afterlife was well within arm's reach, maybe he was just about to grab the FSM's hand...but then something pulled him back. His soul, chained to the Overlord's dark power, dragged him to the land of the living once more.
And if you really want to get into it, then you could even theorize that this connection ended up influencing Zane's power as well. During the Ice Chapter he was capable of turning people into ice samurai zombie-things kept under his control, as well as creating ice constructs like Boreal. These are not abilities that have been established in the ice power-set, nor are they logical powers for an ice elemental to have. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but the Forbidden Scroll doesn't give you new powers, it just enhances and turbo-boosts what you already have. Which is why it did nothing when Kai held it, as his power had been stolen from him at the time.
(Now before you ask why Pixal could use the Scroll despite seeminlgy not having any powers, there are very subtle implications that she had developed a very, very minor sixth sense due to her inheriting some of Zane's power. If anyone wants me to explain that in greater detail, I'd be more than happy to.)
And yes, Aspheera is also capable of creating elemental zombie/mummy things and other such constructs, but she did all that before she found the Scroll. This is a power-set she had by virtue of her being a powerful sorcerer, not something granted by wielding the Scroll.
And yet somehow, the Scroll did seem to give Zane these powers. Powers that so far have only been exhibited by two people in the series: Aspheera, and the Overlord. So if we submit to the theory that Zane and the Overlord's fight have caused their powers to mix a little, and the Scroll magnifies your power....well, it suddenly becomes very possible that the Scroll amplified some of the dark energy he inherited from the Overlord and awakened some of the Ice Emperor's more unique abilities.
And if that's true, then that really just kinda makes the whole Ice Emperor sting that much more. All of the good things Zane has done, all of his biggest sacrifices, all led to this moment. To him becoming the Ice Emperor.
I dunno. It's just something to think about.

Hello! I don't know if this was answered before, but since areas were changed, I wanted to ask—do the other areas from original undertale still exist, just elsewhere in the underground, inaccessible to the player? Or is it a very straightforward full swap
The other areas from Undertale (i.e. Ruins, Snowdin, Waterfall, and Hotland) don't exist -- we've re-imagined each of them based on swapping the seasons the original areas represented!
Undertale's locations were pretty straightforward with what seasons they represented (including via the word search "puzzle"), being:
Ruins (Fall)
Snowdin (Winter)
Waterfall (Spring)
Hotland (Summer)
New Home (N/A)
With TS!Underswap, we swapped the areas' climates around and re-imagined them as brand new locations. These include:
Ruined Home (Spring) -- much more vibrant palette and flora
Starlight Isles (Summer) -- we took a "mysterious nighttime summer forest" direction with this, less direct representation of "summer" than Hotland
Crystal Springs (Fall) -- more autumn-esque palette, damp caves and dripping water
Boreal Bluffs (Winter) -- freezing oceans and snowy peaks, more direct representation of "winter" (akin to Hotland with summer)
The City of New (N/A) -- we aim to build on the "overpopulated" aspect here
With Starlight Isles, we ended up having a bit of a dilemma. Undertale's fire and snow elemental monsters had areas specifically tailored to them -- Hotland and Snowdin, respectively -- whereas here, Starlight Isles was a less direct representation of summer. Because of this, we created "Sunnedout Gorge" as the home for fire elemental monsters! While it can't be accessed (we would if the project wasn't already so ambitious), it can be seen from afar and heard about from monsters!
Crystal Springs is still being worked on, but we plan to have three sections. First is the Crystal Mines, where you take a detour through mining sites, cramped caves, and wider expanses. Next is the main Crystal Springs section, which consists of various old monuments, small settlements, tourist spots, and Royal Navy outposts. The final one is spoilers!
I know I went a bit overboard when answering your question, haha, but I hope this helps!

can we get more info on the movie ice emperor (i am sickly obsessed with the ice chapter and the ninjago movie. i will kill a man for more of the funny guy if needed)
WOOHOO OKAY im glad you asked i think about him constantly
first of all im open for ideas on what movie!neverrealm is like because im having a hard time coming up with anything but currently what ive sort of vaguely got is that its just more technologically advanced (not modern though) (like. mid to late 1800s-ish??)
vex is pretty much the same in personality except now hes british and is like a tired single parent
anyway ice emperor
hes not allowed to leave his throneroom and no one but vex is allowed inside the throneroom "for his safety" (its actually because hes so silly and un-royaltylike and vex worries no one will take the ice emperor seriously if they actually meet him)
he has a lot more energy than show!emperor and is constantly bored
internally watches his movie collections a LOT. from the outside it looks like hes just wandering around his throneroom and stopping to stare at nothing for about an hour, going over to a new spot and staring off again for another two hours
makes vex watch movies with him sometimes. ice emperors favorite movies are the star wars prequels, which vex also thought were cool at first but got sick of them after being forced to watch them like 45 different times throughout the years
makes tracks with ice around the throneroom to roll down on his heelies. vex will come in to a whole icy skatepark setup and the ice emperor will be like "crowd_cheering.mp3 VEX CHECK THIS OUT" and roll down a single ramp and immediately fall over and vex just has to clap and go "wow my lord that was so "sick""
vex HAS to hang out with ice emperor and try to keep him entertained or he will get bored & lonely and throw a fit and freeze everything in the castle
ice emperor is falling apart because he isnt made of titanium like show!emperor is, like whatever his outer layer is made of isnt handling the low temperatures and years of no maintenance very well at all. the armor and the mask is to hide all the damage . whether or not that makes him more or less creepy looking is up to personal opinion
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he broke the Ten Billion Lumen Light in the throneroom on accident :[
and of course: BOREALL movie!boreal is a dragon but he acts like a big kitty. he is just lazy and doesnt listen to anyone except ice emperor and is usually lounging around on the castle roof.
will do what the ice emperor says but only takes the command as a suggestion. he gets distracted easily and takes shortcuts so he can be done and go back to napping
LOVES getting scritched behind the horns
uses the castle walls as a scratching post
he would LOVE the big laser pointer
the only time ice emperor can ever leave his throneroom is to go on the roof to tell boreal to do stuff (they always end up playing and hanging out for ages instead)
ice emperor makes big ice mice for boreal to chase around and catch
the ninja didnt have to kill boreal in this au. they saw this big wyvern displaying kitty behaviors and were like "oh yeah this is just like meowthra" and (very easily) distracted and befriended him. he got a lot of behind-the-horn scritches that day
im glad u guys seem to like movieverse emperor too because he just kind of kicked down the door of my brain one day and made himself at home and refuses to leave

Meet Aster!
Tumblr media
Meet Aster! Aster is part of another story taking place in Thirotia, about a girl learning to become the Lynx Alpha (explained what those are at the bottom of this post, I swear it's not an omegaverse thing. But basically, they're spiritual leaders for each animal species, and each animal species has one, though some species might share the same alpha, like Crows & Magpies as an example). She's a Canadian Lynx, specifically.
More about her under the cut.
Aster was born in the Arctic Biome (placeholder name), specifically the Boreal Forest parts. The Arctic Biome is already known for being a poorer biome since they don't have many resources, and lynxes arent that high of a ranking animal, so she struggled a lot. She grew up with her mom, Salix, learning how to cook and hunt to make money. Eventually, Arcane, the Lynx Alpha, decided it would be good to get anapprenticee bcuz he can't be alpha forever. In Thirotia, alphas gain apprentices by holding contests for their species, and whoever wins gets to be their apprentice.
Originally, Aster joined because they get a bunch of money if they participate, even if they lose. But somehow, she ended up winning, and now she's learning what it's like to be an alpha and how to become a leader, as well as learning the hidden history of Thirotia.
Thanks for reading this far! Honestly I'm super excited for this. Had this idea since third grade as an Animal Jam fic, and it technically still is an AJ fic because I use a lot of the same concepts, but I'm still very excited! If you have any questions, please asked me!
