The October Man was fun! Nice to meet practitioners elsewhere. There's a point where Tobias is standing at the edge of a possible growing magic rot and he's like "I forgot to put markers at the edge to see if it's growing. I bet Peter Grant would've put markers. He probably would've measured the whole thing with lasers."
The narrator did a great job, very fun all around.

“There was a statue on the lawn outside the institute of a woman, hand on breast, looking mournfully upwards as if contemplating the death of a loved one and the amount of paperwork it was bound to cause.” ― Ben Aaronovitch, The October Man

I have finished "The October Man" by Ben Aaronovich. Apparently it's part of a series which I'm not currently interested in but may eventually pick up.
It was a decent book, nothing too incredible but just a pleasant read. I enjoyed the mystery unfolding and I enjoyed the memorable characterisation of side characters.
There was also no blatant misogyny, homophobia or racism, which; since the last mystery novel I read was "The Silent Patient," some two or three years ago, was refreshing.
I'd recommend it to people who like urban fantasy or want to read a book set in Germany.

I was the last can of beans at a Safeway. King Pin (from Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse) entered and stomped around looking for beans. I slowly got up and ran away from him but he saw me and started to chase me. He yelled, “MY BEANS. MY F***ING BEANNNNS.” the entire time he was after me. I ran for my little bean life.

i am so obsessed with how like. taken as read the ot3 are at this point. like on the one hand it feels like they've been building up to this for ages but on the other hand it kind of feels like i blinked and we skipped right past some Major Turning Point where everything got spelled out and we're just already in firmly Established Relationship-land. obviously tarvek is too well-protected for anyone to assassinate openly, look how angry his boyfriend and girlfriend are at the idea of anyone threatening him. at this point i'm half-convinced agatha's just going to refer to her boyfriends in passing to someone else and no one's even going to comment on it until van finds out twenty pages later and immediately starts making everyone pay up
