Horned God Invocation: ⛦
By the flame that burneth bright
O Horned One!
We call thy name into the night
O Horned One!
Thee we invoke by the moon led sea
By the standing stone and the twisted tree
Thee we invoke where gather thine own
By the nameless shrine forgotten and lone
Come where the round of the dance is trod
Horn and hoof of the goat-foot God
By moonlit meadow on dusky hill
When the haunted wood is hushed and still
Come to the charm of the chanted prayer
As the moon bewitches the midnight air
Evoke thy powers, that potent bide
In shining stream and secret tide
In fiery flame by starlight pale
In shadowy host that ride the gale
And by the fern-brakes fairy-haunted
Of forests wild and wood enchanted
Come! O Come!
To the heartbeats drum!
Come to us who gather below
When the broad white moon is climbing slow
Through the stars to the heavens height
We hear thy hoofs on the wind of night
As black tree branches shake and sigh
By joy and terror we know thee nigh
We speak the spell thy power unlocks
At Solstice, Sabbat, and Equinox
Word of virtue the veil to rend
From primal dawn to the wide world's end
Since time began---
The blessing of Pan!
Blessed be all in hearth and hold
Blessed in all worth more than gold
Blessed be in strength and love
Blessed be wher'er we rove
Vision fade not from our eyes
Of the pagan paradise
Past the gates of death and birth
Our inheritance of the earth
From our soul the song of spring
Fade not in our wandering
Our life with all life is one,
By blackest night or noonday sun
Eldest of gods, on thee we call
Blessing be on thy creatures all.

— “How you do anything is how you do everything.” Now I’m done.
“I think I’ll miss you when you’re gone.”
— Shame I can’t say the same.
“You don’t know, do you?”
— What’s that?
“A man’s Second, like his sponsor, either walks with his champion, or is buried beside him... ‘The old ways.’”
— “Such is life.”
How are all his suits so fabulous?

Accompanying these literary treasures are mesmerizing artworks by Clare Marie Bailey and Nathaniel Hébert.
In this issue, titled "The Old Ways," we embark on a profound journey celebrating landscapes and the unique ways in which we navigate them. Uncover tales of pilgrimages and rituals of crossings, be enthralled by stories of malevolent lights leading travelers astray, discover the intricate patterns woven into the fabric of the land, and ponder the enigmatic forces that shape megaliths. Delve into the secrets of the sea, the mysteries of marshlands, the serenity of rivers and fields, the allure of stone circles, the vastness of moors, and even the captivating enigma of outer space. Through these explorations, we unearth the stories that both captivate and shape us, as we honor the intricate link between landscapes, our imagination, and our inner lives.
The concept of the "country of the mind," as referenced by Kenneth Grahame in his timeless masterpiece The Wind in the Willows, comes to life within these pages. Just as Grahame sought solace and embarked on "high adventures" during his solitary walks in the countryside, we too invite you to embark on a journey of the mind—a journey that transcends the physical and connects us to something profound and ineffable.
Join us as we celebrate the allure of landscapes, the narratives that surround them, and the intricate interplay between our perceptions and the ethereal realm that lies beyond. HELLEBORE's The Old Ways Issue is a testament to the power of storytelling and the indelible impact landscapes have on our collective consciousness.

Hello ☺️ I hope you’re doing alright. Are you okay with lgbt+ folks interacting with you?
Sorry to have to ask this, I know you’re not a tradfem but I couldn’t find anything and I don’t want to be jumpscared down the line, or make you uncomfortable.
oh goodness, absolutely okay with it! I’d have to cut ties with many a loved one if not! I am very much pro-lgbt+, which is one of the many reasons I am so ✨ infuriated ✨ to be lumped in with tradfems/tradwives. I’m sorry it isn’t more obvious — admittedly I don’t actually talk about that much on my blog besides what I’m up to, clothes, and ADHD 😅 — but yes, a million times yes.

Prompt 7:  Liars
Prompt 7:  Pawn  - FFXIV Write 2022 Characters: Edarien, Viper, and Spider, with mentions of Seraphin @knight-in-exile and Louvel @louvel-roche.
Tumblr media
“I swear, Edarien,”  Viper slammed both palms down on his brother’s desk, eyes narrowing into soft blue slivers.  “It was fucking Louvel.  Seen his eyes often enough to know him when I see him.  One blue, one gold.”
“And you shot him?”  Edarien leaned back in his chair, fingers pressed together and resting against his lips.  He studied the lines that tension made in his brother’s muscular form.  “Did he bite you?”
Viper shook his head and stood up, hands shoving through his blue-black spikes of hair.  “No.  Took his claws across my back, but nothing that won’t heal.  Leather of my jacket took the worst of it.”
“Alright.”  Edarien exhaled a breath and sat up straighter in his chair.  “Go back to the airship and get some rest.  I’ll look into Louvel, and you are due to sail back to Thavnair in the morning.  Shipments are loading right now.  You can tell your man sales are well up.  Keep up the good work.”
The words were a dismissal and one Viper wasn’t hesitating to take.  He stood and nodded to his brother before turning on the ball of his foot and stalking toward the door.  Edarien stared at the door closing behind him.
“When are you going to tell him?”  Spider’s voice sounded tinny through the tomestone speaker.  The call had been left running when Viper burst into his office some minutes ago.
Edarien glanced down at the device on his desk, frowning and then picking it up.  He met his brother’s eyes and sighed.  “Not yet.  Whatever that thing is hitching a ride in him won’t survive the wakening.  Apparently this Hearer has a deal with the folks over at Seraphim’s Rest.”
“Why do we care if it survives?”  Spider snorts out a breath.  “Second that deal is done, you’re waking him.  We’ve lied long enough, and he’s better these days.  He can handle it.”
“Mm,”  Edarien hummed in bare agreement. “The new boyfriend is definitely better than his previous bed warmers.  He might even last.”
“Edarien.  You were friends once.”  Spider admonished, tapping the screen with a fingertip by way of scolding his elder brother.
“Yes, yes, but we’re not supposed to know, so!”  He huffed out a breath.  “Bedwarmer he is.”  He got a bit of a perverse enjoyment out of calling the former Baron Rosaire that. “His fault for falling for our brother.”
“Mm.”  Spider hummed almost in the same manner Edarien had moments ago.  “What about Louvel?”  A note of worry clouded Spider’s voice.
“I’ll go find him, take him down to the water.”  Edarien gave Spider a quick reassuring smile.  “Are you almost done in Thavnair?”
“Almost.  Couple more weeks and I’ll head home.”  Spider paused for a moment, the sounds of rustling coming through the tomestone.  When he spoke again, his voice lowered, “Looks like the scales of -our- dragon friends will more than work.  I’ve studied the way they make these warding scales and have managed to duplicate the process onto a scale Oriane provided.  I merely wish to stay a little longer to understand the modifications that can be made.”
Edarien pursed his lips and gave a nod of his head.  “Understood.  I’ll let you know what happens with Louvel.  Until then, Spider.  Shadows keep you.”
“And you, Dare.”  The call ended and the screen fizzled to black.
