like atonement for a bygone sin - Dream/Hob
Chapter 4/? | Teen and Up | No Warnings Apply | 26.8k
Naturally, Hob disproved that theory quickly with a sheepish tug on his ear and a smile that spoke too much. “Well,” he said. He avoided Dream’s gaze, eyes trained on the table between them. “Been here since 1989, actually.”
The only response he could come up with to that was, well, not much of a response at all. He stared unblinking at Hob, whose eyes flicked to his and then back down quickly. Thirty three years. Hob—Hob waited thirty three years for him.
For Dream, who forsook him years ago. For Dream, who Hob dared to call ‘friend’ once despite knowing nothing substantial about him. For Dream, who treated him cruelly out of nothing but fear. Who, ultimately, did not deserve such faith, such loyalty, and certainly not from Hob.
Dream of the Endless learns how long Hob Gadling waited for him to return. With some outside help, he comes to a conclusion: he owes Hob a debt, and will repay it with meetings. Thirty five meetings, for every year he failed to turn up, for 1989, and for ruining 1889.
Hob Gadling is just happy his Stranger wants to see him more often, and has no idea about this apparent debt.

Kassandra Hargeeves' Scenes, S01E10: The White Violin
The house comes crashing down, with the world soon to follow after
Collapsing
Suddenly, the entire house started shaking. All doors flew open at once. In an instinctive reaction, Luther, Klaus, Diego and Kassandra almost ran into each other in the hallway.
“Yo, what the hell is going on?” Diego asked tensely.
Klaus looked around in confusion and fear. “Are those explosions coming from-”
“Vanya”, Pogo said grimly, appearing behind them. “We need to get to safety. Outside the academy.”
The noise wouldn't cease. Explosions, crumbling walls, grinding of bricks and groaning of beams…
“I knew this was a bad idea”, Kassandra whispered.
“Don’t forget Mom”, Luther told the others.
With a decisive nod, Diego, Klaus and Kassandra started running for the exit. Around them, the walls started to crack. Dust rained down from the ceiling. Suddenly, Kassandra stopped dead in her tracks.
“I need to talk to Vanya”, she declared.
Both Klaus and Diego stared at her in disbelief.
“You’re crazy”, Diego stated. “Vanya is about to bring the whole house crashing down and you think talking to her will fix things?”
“I need to try”, Kassandra insisted.
“Listen, Kass”, Klaus cut in, “I’m usually all for crazy things but this is just downright suicidal. We need to get out of here!”
“Then you get out. I’m going to find Vanya. She’s listened to me before, there’s a chance she’ll listen again.”
“Kassandra…” Diego said firmly and took her by the arm to pull her onwards but she yanked herself free.
“Look, Diego, I’m sorry”, she sighed with pleading eyes, “but I need to do this. I promise I’ll make it out alive.”
With that, and without looking at her brothers again, she hurried down the hallway. Thoughts were racing through her mind, her own just as stressful as those of others, her feelings tearing her up from the inside. She had to be there for Vanya because she had always been there for her, because she had been through so much and because she had to be so lost and confused. On the other hand, she knew Diego and Klaus were right. This was madness. Especially in the light of their recent losses, she felt horrible putting her life on the line. On top of that, she was scared. Scared of the state she would find Vanya in, scared of dying, scared of losing her family again. Still, she forced herself to focus. She found Vanya’s thoughts and followed them to their source. Soon, she could hear voices. Vanya and Pogo.
As she stepped into the salon, her blood went cold. There she was. Vanya. Her skin had turned sickly pale and her eyes were like alabaster, cold as stone. Wind and vibrations swirled around her, reaching into Kassandra’s body to stir her soul. On top of this, Vanya was not herself. Her mind had become unreadable, ice cold. But what was the most terrifying was what was happening in front of Kassandra this very instant. Pogo was lifted up into the air as the winds grew stronger. Then, he shot through the entire room, right into the large antlers along the wall. A wave of nausea hit Kassandra as she saw their scarlet tips tear through his chest. The fabric of his suit turned a deep red. Then, his eyes met hers. The noise of the collapsing house faded for a moment. Kassandra wanted to go to him, hold his hand as he went, but-
“Kassandra.”
Vanya’s voice pulled her gaze away from him. Kassandra had to be wearing her emotions clearly on her face, despite how much she tried to be strong.
“Vanya, I… I’m sorry”, she stammered. “All of this has gone far out of control.”
“You mean you can’t control me anymore.”
“No, I-” She realized she had no clue what to say. All this time she had had to prepare and now nothing came out. “We never should have done all those things to you. We’ve given you a horrible life. To know the truth now… I can’t imagine how you feel right now, but… I could if you let me try…”
Shakily, she pulled off her gloves and reached out her hands to the white being that her sister had become. There had to be a way out of this. A peaceful solution. This couldn’t be the end.
“You knew about my powers all along and you didn’t tell me”, Vanya said coldly.
“Yes, I knew, but you know that I couldn’t tell you even if I wanted to!” Kassandra cried out, her voice breaking. “Please, Vanya, this situation is messy enough as it is. Let me try to help you. The amount of mistakes that has been made is too big to just forgive and forget, I know, but we can try to take this one step at a time. I don’t want to lose my sister. I still love you! I-”
Her words got stuck in her throat as she felt herself be lifted off the ground. Her lungs felt like they were being compressed, her throat sewn shut.
“Vanya, please-”
But it was no use. With a shock wave, Kassandra was hurled backwards and crashed through the front doors. As glass shards and splinters flew around her, everything went black.

Breaking Down
“Kass! Kassandra!”
Hurriedly, Diego picked her motionless body up from the ground, cold shivers running down his spine. It felt like time went in slow motion. But when he finally heard quiet breathing, a sigh of relief escaped him.
“Hey, she kept her promise!” Klaus remarked in a tone that sounded scared, incredulous, glad and like he was trying to lighten up the situation somehow.
His attempt failed but… it was good to know at least one person had made it. Allison leaned against Luther, holding on to his arm. With a quiet groan, Kassandra’s head moved slightly.
“Take it slow”, Diego whispered.
Her eyes fluttered open, first filled with drowsiness, then confusion, then gratitude.
“Diego, you’re alive!” Kassandra gasped.
She sat up slowly and looked around, a smile spreading across her face as she looked at each of her siblings.
“You all made it!”
But then, her smile faded. She had to have already picked it up from the others’ thoughts. Still, Luther took it upon himself to deliver the bad news to her:
“Mom and Pogo didn’t make it.”
Kassandra’s eyes went hollow. She nodded lightly and got up, only to stumble and almost collapse. Immediately, Diego and Klaus were at her side to catch her.
“Let’s sit you down somewhere”, Klaus suggested.
They moved her over to one of the pieces of the entrance gate still standing. As they walked, even these few steps, they noticed she was shaking. Her breathing was becoming more shallow. Then, she choked. The moment they sat her down on one of the stones in front of the entrance, they noticed she was crying. Kassandra, who had always been there for others, who had always taken the others’ pain, who had always listened to them cry, who herself had never cried in front of them - or anyone as far as they knew - since she was five years old. But now it had happened. Crumbling her face in pain, Kassandra covered her mouth to muffle the sound of her cries. She doubled over as if trying to spit out her heart right then and there.
“Hey, hey, it’s okay”, Klaus said quickly, putting a hand on her shoulder. “Let it out.”
But her breathing kept getting shakier and more and more shallow. Klaus recognized too well what this meant.
“Breathe, Kass, breathe. It’s okay, we’re all okay. We’re safe. Just breathe.”
Quickly, Allison wrote down some things on her notepad and held it up to Kassandra. When she realized she wouldn’t read it, she nudged Klaus. Breathe. 3 in, 3 hold, 3 out, 3 pause.
“Okay, let’s do a little exercise. Kass?”
But Kassandra wouldn’t listen. Suddenly, a voice cut through the chaos.
“Guys!” Five called, running to the group. He had a newspaper clutched in his hand.
“Not now, Five”, Luther said dryly.
“This is it. The apocalypse is still on, the world ends today.”
“Five, this is not the time.”
“Of course, it’s the time, we- Oh, shit.”
Kassandra’s state had only gotten worse at his words. Diego took a deep breath. This could either make things worse or make things better and he had no idea what this would be like but he had to try.
“Kass… I’ll take your hand, okay?”
He took off his gloves and carefully wrapped his fingers around her wrist. Immediately, he could feel a surge of panic come on. So the telepathy did work the same both ways, Kassandra had just always locked her feelings away. Now, she couldn’t anymore. To his surprise, Kassandra moved her hand, allowing him to hold it. Her panic swept over to him even further, but knowing that it wasn’t his helped him deal with it and he hoped that his state of mind would somehow help Kassandra too. If not, hopefully at least the touch of his hand would. He tried to be gentle, just like she always had been, and just like he remembered himself doing with her time and time again, she squeezed his hand, looking for support.
“There we go… Now let’s breathe together, okay? Three seconds in… three seconds hold… three seconds out… three seconds pause… And again. That’s it.”
Really, her panic slowly started to ebb away. Her breathing became calmer, deeper, less stiff.
“You’re doing great, Kass”, Klaus encouraged her.
Finally, she swallowed the lump in her throat and wiped off her tears but she didn’t let Diego’s hand go. Gently, he rubbed his thumb across her skin. They didn’t talk, but their connected minds gave them a special kind of bond. For the first time since their birth, Diego felt like he truly understood his sister - and he felt sorry, but also very grateful. Grateful that she had gone through everyone else’s troubles and sorry that she had gone through hers alone. But not anymore.
“Are you feeling better, Kass?” Five asked, hands in his pockets but still looking genuinely concerned.
Kassandra nodded with a sigh.
“Good, because I’ve got bad news. I was wrong. The apocalypse happens today. This newspaper I found in the future the day I got stuck. The headline hasn’t changed.”
“No, that doesn’t mean anything”, Diego said quietly, half in the moment, half in his mind - or their mind. “Time could’ve been altered since that newspaper came out this morning.”
“You’re not listening to me. When I found it I assumed this place came down along with everything else. But here we are, the moon’s still shining, the Earth is in one piece, but not the Academy.”
In the distance, a helicopter whirred and sirens blared. Klaus pulled the newspaper out of Five’s hand, mumbling: “I’m confused.
“Then listen to me, you idiot”, Five insisted. “Vanya destroys the Academy before the apocalypse. I thought Harold Jenkins was the cause but he was the fuse. Vanya is the bomb. Vanya causes the apocalypse.”
With those words, Diego could feel Kassandra’s mind be whirled up again. He squeezed her hand lightly.
“We have to find her”, Luther declared.
Suddenly, they were in the middle of a searchlight. Bright, blinding almost, and pointed directly at them. Immediately, a jolt went through Diego’s body
“We gotta go”, he announced. “Now!”
He jumped up from his seat and pulled Kassandra up with him, tightening his grip on her hand. This was no state to leave her alone in, especially not in a situation like this.
“Regroup at the Super Star”, Luther ordered. “Go!”
With that, everyone started running off in different directions.
“Take care of her!” Klaus called after Diego and Kassandra.
“I will!”
He would. He had sworn it.

The End
“What’s the worst that can happen?”
“You’re looking at it. A 58-year-old man inside a child’s body, so there’s that.”
“Well, I think that’s not too bad”, Kassandra remarked, her heartbeat thumping against her chest at the thought of the chunks of the moon raining from above. “I liked being a child. It’s a lot better than dying, that’s for sure.”
“Oh, what the hell, I’m in”, Diego declared.
“Yeah, whatever”, Klaus shrugged. “I’m in too.”
“Me too”, Luther said. “Allison?”
Allison nodded.
“What about Ben?”
“Great, yeah, he’s in”, Klaus announced.
“Okay, great. Luther, grab Vanya”, Five ordered.
This was it. It was time travel or nothing.
“Wait, should we be taking her?” Luther interrupted. “I mean, if she’s the cause of the apocalypse, isn’t that like taking the bomb with us?”
“A bomb can be defused”, Kassandra said, putting a hand on Vanya’s forehead. For now, she was unconscious. Peacefully asleep. “If we take her with us, we get a chance to undo the mistakes we’ve made, or at least try to mend them.”
“Kass is right”, Five declared. “The apocalypse will always happen and Vanya will always be the cause, unless we take her with us and fix her.”
Kassandra took another look up at the moon. Its fiery image made her shiver. Quickly, everyone gathered in a circle, taking each other’s hand. Their tenseness flooded into Kassandra, but for once she made no effort to hold hers back either. Instead, she let herself ease into the fact that this meant she wasn’t alone. She didn’t have to go through this all by herself. Above them, blue light flickered and thunder crashed. That crack in the sky that had given them Five back would now take them away. Kassandra didn’t care what the consequences of this would be. As long as they made it and as long as she kept her family, she would accept anything. Finally, maybe in their last moments on this Earth or at least in this time, she could feel everyone’s hearts beating in the same rhythm. Finally, after all these years, she could feel a seventh presence again. Ben was here, he was back. Finally, the entire Umbrella Academy was back together.
With a loud whooshing, Kassandra felt herself be lifted off the floor, up into the light. Then, everything disappeared.

Planning a career in academia? House of the Dragon is surprisingly good preparation – according to Joshua Kim at Inside Higher Ed.
The show you want to watch if you want to understand how a university actually works is HBO’s thinly veiled academic drama, House of the Dragon.
From the outside, a university appears to be a coherent organization, much like the image House Targaryen presents to the people of Westeros. From the inside, things can look very different.
Over the first nine episodes of season one, House of the Dragon beautifully captures the dilemmas that university leaders must navigate.
The story of King Viserys Targaryen amply demonstrates the limits of power and authority of any university president.
The provost of House of the Dragon, otherwise known as the Hand of the King, has the almost impossible job of keeping the knights (faculty) happy and the place running more or less smoothly.
Some of my favorite scenes of House of the Dragon occur during the meetings of the president's top leadership group, perfectly renamed the Small Council. Appearances by the relevant deans/lords—including Lord Corlys Velaryon as the dean of the business school (naturally)—always make for compelling viewing.
The role of the university endowment is embodied in the form of dragons. The house (or university) with the most and the biggest dragons (endowments) will always claim the top place in the rankings.
Observers of university life and viewers of House of the Dragon no doubt have similar thoughts. Wouldn’t things go so much better if everyone could find a way to compromise and share power and if women held all the top leadership roles? As House of the Dragon dramatizes so aptly, however, universities follow their own internal logic and codes.
Winter may be coming (a clear reference to the combination of the demographic cliff, public disinvestment and the cost disease), but the attention of universities will inevitably be focused on their place in the status hierarchy (the top spot in the U.S. News rankings made material in the form of who sits on the Iron Throne).
By disguising (if barely) their commentary on academic politics as a semimagical medieval tale, the creators of the House of the Dragon have created the most realistic portrait of university life yet to appear on the small screen.
Perhaps what happened to Lucerys in S01E10 is comparable to one academic department involuntarily being folded into a larger department.
Those scenes in S01E04 on the Street of Silk are reminiscent of some frat parties that I've heard about.

Tim & Eric Nite Live #10: “Chocolate Episode” | February 19, 2008 | S01E10
In private, I posited that this might be one of the weakest episodes of the show just by virtue of the fact that it’s a format breaker. I was wrong. It’s just strong in a different way.
This one begins with a big finale: the cast are covered in chocolate to various degrees, and singing a spirited song about loving Chocolate. Yo La Tengo is there, and closing credits roll. It’s possible that people tuning in live were genuinely confused by this, and thought they somehow missed the actual episode.
Jon Mugar comes out and announces that the episode has wrapped, and they begin setting up for a post-show writer’s meeting. There’s also static cameras set up in a green room area where Tim and other cast members are cleaning chocolate off themselves. Eric is bugging Tim about paying him $30 for a Lakers ticket, which Tim is, perhaps rightfully, being combative over because it was supposedly a comp ticket that Eric procured. All the cameras are fixed, and it’s immediately clear that we’re watching something that’s not supposed to go out over the air.
I mean, obviously Tim and Eric aren’t REALLY accidentally letting themselves be filmed. They are playing with the same conventions of television that Garry Shandling played with for The Larry Sanders Show. But it’s just uncanny enough to make you wonder if somebody (like an audience member, or maybe certain people on camera) are being tricked.
What happens is a fairly mundane but subtly hilarious “writer’s meeting” involving Tim, Eric, and their cast of misfits. The humor is in the details; Eric is given a cake for his birthday which already has a slice cut out of it. The participants at the writer’s table all bang their heads against the wall trying to come up with a suitable idea for their upcoming “Leap Year” themed show. DJ Douggpound wants Tim and Eric to dress like frogs, speak in subtitled croaks, and lay eggs. Dunn suggests a Princess and the Frog kinda thing and really likes the idea of having both Tanese Gray and Gabby come back for it. Quall suggests that somebody dress like an astronaut and use the phrase “a giant LEAP for Mankind”.
Things take more of a turn sideways when Eric presents a Youtube clip of Gorillas hanging out as an ersatz Carson-esque animal segment. Tim reams him out for it, bruising Eric’s ego. DLH rehearses his leap year song while Eric gets up from the table bitch about Tim to Jon Mugar who’s standing off to the side. Tim and Eric’s relationship is beginning to erode in front of our very eyes.
Bob Odenkirk shows up and takes the boys to task for their unprofessional show via a compilation of technical failures. He admits that he thought they were trying to make a bad show on purpose: “I found out from you that you were trying to do a good job”. Bob continues to chastise the cast, and DLH eventually leaves the table. He almost seems like he’s taking Bob’s criticisms a little too personally, though he does a glad-handing laugh at DLH’s ad-lib of “I’m the only chocolate one here!” in reference to the fictional show that took place. Bob similarly props up Quall’s line “I’ll be in the museum with all the other dinosaurs”, and indirectly compliments him by having the parallel thought of the astronaut “Giant Leap” bit.
Tim loses his temper with Eric for fucking around in the clips Bob shows, and they eventually blow up at one another, devolving into a cake throwing fight. “I’m going to go out the back door because he’s going to fucking jump me again” Tim complains. As people scatter, we cut to color bars. That’s the end!
This is a terrific episode, and they pull off the near impossible task of improvised, realistic performance with some wild card outsiders. Tim would later do a similar thing with The Trial, a season of On Cinema that consists of fixed-camera court-room footage of his character’s manslaughter trial. That, from what I can gather, was pulled off with the cooperation of professional actors who probably specialize in mock trials. This is MUCH shorter, but almost more impressive because it’s pulled off with non-professional and seemingly presented live. It could have been pre-taped for all I know, but there’s no obvious edits. Along with The Trial, it’s one of the pieces I’m most curious about in Tim and Eric’s oeuvre.
Man, I would pay handsomely for a complete Nite Live watchalong. I really would!
MAIL BAG
as for "microwaving animals" go I feel like Newgrounds was a big source of that kind of a humor. You could microwave any animal on that site, even the olsen twins.
I’ve been wrong about a lot of things, but I’m very glad that I was never a Newgrounds devotee.

You’re back out at the abandoned landing strip, all in the name of helping Barry Allen, get faster. You bet the Golden Boy isn’t freezing his ass off like you are—your fluffy scarf nearly cutting you off from the outside world with its enormity. How you wish you had put on more layers.
Cisco manually sends a drone hurtling after Barry, shooting actual bullets at the blossoming hero. You wonder if “Harrison” planned on having real bullets fire at the Flash on purpose…
As Harrison’s personal assistant, confidant—and a couple other things that will remain between you both—it is your job to make sure everything goes as planned.
Everything.
When Barry goes down hard, even when the killer drone advances at a furious speed, the atmosphere around the onlookers grows tense. It’s too close to call—will Barry dodge the oncoming attack?
And then, you spot it.
Harrison watches with intense fascination at the scene ahead. So much so, that his foot moves from his motorized chair to plant on the tarmac. Stunned and feeling a rise of panic, you squeeze his shoulder from behind. He looks up at you, immediately realizing his mistake and returning his foot to play its part as immovable. He gives you a conspiratorial nod in thanks.
You nod once in reply.
Yes, everything must go as planned.

Naturally, Hob disproved that theory quickly with a sheepish tug on his ear and a smile that spoke too much. “Well,” he said. He avoided Dream’s gaze, eyes trained on the table between them. “Been here since 1989, actually.”
The only response he could come up with to that was, well, not much of a response at all. He stared unblinking at Hob, whose eyes flicked to his and then back down quickly. Thirty three years. Hob—Hob waited thirty three years for him.
For Dream, who forsook him years ago. For Dream, who Hob dared to call ‘friend’ once despite knowing nothing substantial about him. For Dream, who treated him cruelly out of nothing but fear. Who, ultimately, did not deserve such faith, such loyalty, and certainly not from Hob.
Dream of the Endless learns how long Hob Gadling waited for him to return. With some outside help, he comes to a conclusion: he owes Hob a debt, and will repay it with meetings. Thirty five meetings, for every year he failed to turn up, for 1989, and for ruining 1889.
Hob Gadling is just happy his Stranger wants to see him more often, and has no idea about this apparent debt.

last year during the first lockdown i decided to rewatch queer as folk again after a few years break from the show. michael has always been one of my least favourite characters and i just needed to rant about how annoying he is, so i have compiled a list of his worst moments. you’re welcome. i wrote all these in my notes app while watching and you will get them without any editing whatsoever. in chronological order:
s01e03 when justin turns up at woodys to find brian and michael yells at brian because he doesn’t want to babysit. while justin is talking to debbie!!! justin is just a young gay teen trying to fit in and michael is go angy? fuck off you piece of shit
s01e04 “this is about brian’s one night stand!” / “not just one” / “don’t bet on it”...... my dude.... my good dude michael..... i am pretty sure justin knows more about his own sex life than you do
s01e04 “unfortunately not this one” referring to justin when they were talking about the high suicide rates with gay teens.... michael was so jealous of a guy who had sex with brian that he was annoyed that he wasn’t feeling suicidal? cant relate
s01e10 when justin moved in at debbie’s place, getting michael’s old bedroom. why was he so annoyed? you’re a grown man, just turned 30 and that bedroom still has all your childhood things in it? grow the fuck up you childish man baby!!!!!
s01e17? when david and michael held the fundraiser for that senator and michael purposely didn’t invite any of his friends/family because he found them “embarrassing”, then porceeded to yell at his mum when they showed up anyway. the entire storyline of him feeling like he was sooo much better than all of them because he had been to france and got expensive stuff from david? horrible horrible man
s02e06 saying the only reason brian spends time with justin is because he feels guilty that justin was attacked. it’s almost like he doesn’t know his best friend? what a surprise!!!
s02e12? getting angry that brian and ben fucked at the white party long before michael even knew ben? brian had sex with everybody how did michael expect to find someone who hadnt fucked brian already? and why are you angry over your partner’s sexual history from before you even knew them?
s03e01 getting angry at justin for breaking up with brian (which is what he wanted to happen since fucking day 1) and then telling him that he isn’t part of the friendgroup anymore, as if they only tolerated him as long as he was with brian. fuck youuuuuu!!!!! honestly just the ENTIRE episode? upset that justin came to mel and lindsay’s party and that he brought ethan? it’s not your party! you don’t decide who is invited! SAYING BRIAN SHOULD HAVE LEFT JUSTIN DYING ON THE GROUND? literally just scum of the earth!! even if it was just because he was upset on brian’s behalf that should have never even crossed his mind!!!!
s03e04, he knew what kind of father brian was to gus so why was he so angry at the way melanie and lindsay wanted him to be a father to their next child? he would be the sperm donor and the child’s dad but he wouldn’t be part of the kid’s life more than brian was in gus’ life? how is that so hard to get? it’s not YOUR child? get your own if you want to be an actual dad????
s03e07? getting so pissed that ben didn’t want to include him in his HIV-positive life that he “threatened” to infect himself? show some support for your boyfriend instead maybe? what kind of weird move is it to almost stab yourself with a used needle? i totally get what he was trying to do but it’s a fucked up way of going about it
s03e08, while i dont completely agree with ben taking in hunter from the start and letting him spend the night (which probably has more to do with me being a woman who would have trouble defending herself in case anything should happen), the way michael acted as if hunter didn’t deserve any compassion was.. really bad? he even rolled his eyes when ben gave hunter money and a contact number for them that he could keep. hunter was a CHILD on the street, selling his body for money!!! how are you not more concerned!!!
bouncing off of that s03e10 why is michael getting angry that ben wants to care for this child!! he was in the fucking hospital and i get that now it’s a money problem but you are not listening to your partner? you are talking over him and not trying to come up with another solution to help care for this child!!!! i am FURIOUS
s04e08 convincing justin that they shouldnt mention to brian that they were aware that he had cancer and had the sugery, but then breaking down the first chance he gets and crying to brian about it? first of, this is NOT about you michael so sit your ass down!! and second of, i get that he was scared of losing brian but at least give justin a heads up that he told brian?? that’s the absolute least he could have done
THE ENTIRE FIFTH SEASON!!!! michael needed to SHUT UP about melanie and lindsay’s relationship problems in relation to jr because guess what? you’re not the primary parent, this doesn’t concern you! you were the sperm donor who was lucky enough to still be called the dad and be part of jr’s life!!!! shut up about how the baby lives in a broken home and how you want the baby? she’s not yours!!!!!! what is your PROBLEM!!! i will fist fight you
both him and debbie kept saying “whatever goes on between you [mel and linds] it doesn’t matter, the baby comes first”. don’t you think parents living seperately are better than parents living together but fighing all the time? the entire thing makes me so ANGRY
i MEAN the way michael thinks he is entitled to all information about lindsay and melanie’s relationship just because he was the sperm donor to their baby? insanity
“why won’t you let me have her?” GOD SHUT THE FUCK UP MICHAEL
s05e04 i get that michael might have been embarassed at the “housewarming” gift that brian got them and also at the word choices that brian makes but come on? monty and whoever started out by insulting not only the way brian chooses to live his own life but also his business? it’s a civil conversation and yeah brian could have used less harsh words but brian’s lifestyle isn’t new to other people? not even people outside of his small social group? let him live his own life and also let him defend his choices
e05e07 like i get it okay? brian came in late at night and shouted and blamed michael for his and justin’s breakup so of course michael would be annoyed but the way he said “he [justin] left because of YOU. who wouldn’t?” was completely uncalled for? it just really fucking bugs me? this is your best friend who is CLEARLY going through a bad breakup so maybe choose your words more carefully? MAYBE have some compassion just maybe?
when hunter left in season 5 and michael said “who else would have taken him in? made him family?” WHY WOULD YOU EVER SAY THAT ABOUT YOUR CHILD!!! WHY ARE YOU SUCH A PIECE OF SHIT michael really thinks he is the absolute shit and deserves the world for doing the smallest thing?
going through the show again really just fleshed out how fucking bad of a person he could be from time to time wow whats YOUR worst michael moment????

Guinevere set down the letter and closed her eyes. She had been expecting Mithian to be there herself at Camlann, leading her troops, but Arthur had taken her to one side when she’d questioned the leader’s absence. In Mithian’s own words, Arthur had said, her tendency to fall for Morgana’s charms, paired with the recent loss of her father, had rendered her incapable of leading anyone. Guinevere’s anger had ebbed away, then. Falling for Morgana’s charms was something they had in common, and she couldn’t resent her for wanting to keep well away if possible. Guinevere herself had been nervous to be so close, but she hadn’t been about to abandon Arthur.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power S01E10 - The Beacon
My first thought after reading that title is "oh, the distress beacon Entrapta had in her castle." Maybe that's how they are going to find out she's alive? If it's even something that'll be dealt with this season. If it isn't that... hmm, I'm not sure what else it could be. Maybe something related to Glimmer's blocked powers? Or something related to She-Ra's powers?
I have no idea so let's do this!
I'm not sure what to think here. While in a practical sense she's right (why group the most important/powerful people in the world in one strike team instead of y'know using actual warfare and soldiers as a distraction), I doubt the show agrees with her.
I'm guessing there's some context that I'm missing, maybe whatever happened to the previous Princess Alliance was in part because they were together?
Well, this is a cheery way to start the episode.
Welp, everything they achieved during the season has been completely destroyed. I doubt Glimmer and Adora are going to blame each other but there's definitely going to be some self-blaming. Adora because of her plan, Glimmer for being captured.

It's weird how they are both treating Entrapta's loss as serious business but also kinda lightly? I guess it makes sense if we consider no one really knew Entrapta so she's more like a long lost cousin than anything else. I'd still expect more... insistence from Angella though, Entrapta _did_ die saving her daughter.

This is another one of those cases where I'm both thinking "this is really dumb" but also "it makes a ton of sense." From outside, this is the worst possible decision Glimmer could make right now, Angella has a lot more resources than they have to help her.
But, I completely understand _why_ Glimmer is being like that. It's one more excuse for her mom to keep overprotecting her and trying to escape that has been Glimmer's major motivation this season.
I have the feeling that recharging is going to make it worse since it means more energy to glitch out.

Scorpia is an absolute treasure.
And now Catra meeting Entrapta in the Princess Ball has a reason. Because she already knows who she is, her first reaction is not to try and attack her but rather just a sigh because well, dealing with entrapta is worth a sigh.
Huh, that's an interesting tidbit to drop just like that. So Angella is immortal, is _Glimmer_ immortal too? How long has Angella lived? Long enough to have met the first ones?
Adora really needs to visit a therapist.

Of course she'd say that, it's a chance to see She-Ra in action _and_ to get healed. Win-win.
My brain is breaking while trying to figure out how Entrapta's hair works. Wouldn't making that second "tentacle" be enough to make the hair thin enough to escape? If she can make that second tentacle wouldn't it be incredibly easy to just move all her hair out of the shackles?
It's always refreshing to see "villains" that actually care for each other.
Catra is really good at manipulating people, probably thanks to Shadow Weaver's example, but the way she's using her own experiences makes it even better/worse.
Also interesting that they are hiding Entrapta's face.
The thing with Catra is that I can't tell when she's being honest. I _think_ she's genuinely sympathizing with Entrapta while at the same time planning how to use her. Like with Scorpia, she empathized with her but she also had a reason to do it. I wonder if that duality is going to cause her problems later on.

Catra thinks she's being all evil and manipulative while Scorpia in the back is just going "yeah, that sounds right, worked for me"
I doubt Catra _wants_ to be protected but Scorpia is _such_ a good friend.
For some reason I don't really mind Entrapta joining the horde, I'm just hoping that they don't take advantage of her. That sounds weird but Scorpia _is_ happy there, why not Entrapta? There's always time for a heel-face turn later on.
She-Ra being a dork with super powers is one of the best parts of her entire character.
Can't wait to see Glimmer turned into a rainbow.

What with princesses liking arson. First RWBY and now She-Ra.
She's trying so hard to reconnect. I'm not a parent myself (thankfully) but I think everyone can at least understand the struggle to understand and connect with someone who seems to be pulling away.
Glimmer has some valid reasons to be doing it (teenager + being overprotected is a pretty bad combination) but I can't fault Angella too much for trying to do everything she can.
Of course, like most problems, it could get solved by talking, maybe this dinner is a chance?

I knew Glimmer had some issues with her self-esteem but damn, I didn't expect _this_. I guess this is the disadvantage of having an immortal parent who's also a queen. High expectations to live up to, self-imposed or not.
Daaaaaaaamn. Was it in battle or did Micah die rescuing her? It'd be an interesting parallel to Glimmer's kidnapping.
And, I hadn't really thought about this but, Micah being dead is a pretty good reason for Angella's "helicopter mom" tendencies.
Oooooooh, that's worse than I thought. And it explains why she's been mostly reactive in the war with Glimmer being the one who wants to take a more active role.
I'm still curious about what exactly happened in that battle and afterward. Have we heard how long was the first alliance? I can't remember, but it has to be less than 20 years ago considering Glimmer's age (unless she's also immortal and 300 years old)
Are Netossa and Spinerella also immortal? That'd explain why they look the same in the mural.
Aw, that got me teary-eyed a bit. It's probably not the end of their problems but they've at least started talking.
Lots of guilt all around
I was going to say "WHY DID YOU THROW AWAY THE SWORD" but there it is.
Vulnerability seems to be the theme of this episode. Or rather, choosing to be vulnerable or not.
The alliance is gone, Entrapta’s death is too much to bear and the princesses choose to all return to their own respective kingdoms, literally closing themselves off the world in the case of Frosta and Mermista.
We don’t see what happens with them afterward but everything that follows is about how that seems to be the worst choice to make.
Entrapta decides to help Catra not because she’s evil or wants revenge but because she finally feels understood. Would she have turned so easily if she _really_ believed in her new friends? How long has she lived alone in that castle? How many times has she been left behind or branded a problem because of her behavior? Sure, she usually acts like she doesn‘t care but that doesn‘t mean it‘s true.
Catra’s intentions are definitely not pure but she’s speaking from her own experiences and that’s enough to make the princess relate to her.
The opposite happens with Shadow Weaver. She refuses to be vulnerable and apologize, choosing to feed Catra a line with how it was all to prepare her. All this achieves is to alienate her further.
On the other side of the war, Glimmer spends the entire episode trying to avoid her mom, but it’s only after her insecurities explode and Angella opens up with her own that they can start mending their relationship and fix Glimmer’s glitching.
Adora is the clearest example, it takes dropping her defenses and revealing her self-doubt to herself and the world before the forest lets her through to the Beacon.
The best thing about all of this is that the episode didn’t beat me over the head with the “moral” of the episode. Besides Perfuma’s words, it’s all in how the characters act and the consequences. It has faith in the viewer to get it and that’s pretty neat.
Some jumbled thoughts:
* I’m not a big fan of diagnosing characters of real-life stuff but I wonder if Entrapta was written to be neurodivergent on purpose instead of just being an excuse to make her funny/frustrating.
* Bow seems to be the only one handling things more or less okay (even before they talk things out) but who knows, maybe he’s bottling it all up to explode in the future.
* I’m trying to guess what will happen next. They have to heal Glimmer and fix up the Alliance but neither of those things seems finale worthy. Maybe Angella is going to attack the Horde? There’s also the question of what’s going to happen with Adora and Catra, maybe another vision revealing more of what it all means?
* How long before the Princesses find out that Entrapta is alive? It’s probably going to be pretty sad, twice. First, when they find out they abandoned her in enemy territory and second when they realize she doesn’t want to go back with them.

Summary: Ignoring problems doesn’t make them go away. Penny figures it’s worth a shot anyway.
Notes: I found this almost done on my pc and I got John&Penny feelings, so... I've finished it! It's set after they've arrived on the water planet, in the gap between the two seasons.
Also, if there's anyone reading that knows clinical psychology, yeah, this isn't technically PTSD because it's too soon after the traumatic event, but ASD has the same symptoms and isn't as largely known, so I figured in this case it'd be more useful to mistag (I felt the need to clarify this because there's my clinical psychology textbook staring right at me. I know, dude, I know, shut up).

The first step is thinking about it as little as possible.
As soon as she realizes that her thoughts are starting to tread dangerous waters, she just goes ‘No no no, bad Penny, think happy thoughts’, and she tries to come up with cute bunnies or pretty flowers or whatever isn’t death and destruction.
(It would work a lot better if the memories didn’t usually come in sudden flashes that she has no idea how to stop and that leave her with her throat closed for ages after.)
The second step is called Operation Hogging Dad.
Oh, Dad is going to deal with dinner? Penny is on her feet, ready to help. He’s assisting Don while he does maintenance, so they can be ready to fly away at any given moment? A third set of eyes can’t hurt, can it? She’ll hold the flashlight if nothing else.
Whatever her dad is doing, she does her best to shadow him, because reminding herself that everything is fine and dandy comes a lot more easily when she can turn to him for proof.
(Well, unless he’s going outside, that is, because seeing him all geared up gives her the creeps. Hard pass.)
She figured he wouldn’t notice: she can be, admittedly, a little clingy at times, so there was a good chance that he would not think twice about her following him around.
(Hope dies last, right?)
“So,” her dad begins, stopping just outside of the airlock to turn to her. “What’s the matter?”
(There. Hope is dead.)
