Gonna post this here cause I think it would get me banned from Facebook.
Just bought two pairs of pants from real Canadian superstore. $39. For pants. For sweat pants, from a grocery store.
Galen Weston Jr. Can take that damn sweater and shove it up his fucking ass.

Manitoba's premier responded to criticism of her government for sending hundreds of thousands of dollars in education property tax rebates to corporations like Loblaw by suggesting on Tuesday that ending those rebates could amount to putting such companies "out of business in this province."
Heather Stefanson made the comments during question period after Opposition NDP Leader Wab Kinew said Manitoba gave a rebate of $325,000 to the company that owns stores like Real Canadian Superstore and No Frills.
"The company that the leader of the Opposition is referring to employs more than 3,000 Manitobans ... and he's talking about putting them out of business in this province," Stefanson said.
"Millions of dollars of tax revenue that we get as a government from this very corporation that the leader of the Opposition is talking about, and he's talking about shutting them down in the province of Manitoba." [...]

Ok, extremely important question in light of your recent interests: have you watched the early-2000's Canadian television masterpiece that is Slings & Arrows? If not, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Here's the pitch for you and anyone else reading this because I truly cannot evangelize about this show enough:
Three seasons, six 45-min episodes per season. Set in what is basically a lightly fictionalized version of Canada's Stratford Festival, it's a comedy-drama that satirizes the Canadian theatre industry and the professional Shakespeare industry, specifically. Each season is structured around them putting on that year's mainstage play--Hamlet, then Macbeth, then King Lear--and the plot of the play mirrors the plot of the behind the scenes drama.
We've got a ghost, we've got drunken sword fights, we've got Mark McKinney (of Kids in the Hall & Superstore) playing the company's business manager who gets topped by a girlboss who wants to take over the festival, we've got a mentally unwell artistic director in a romantically charged exes situation with his also mentally unwell leading lady, we've got not one not two but THREE catty old gay men (one of whom is the aforementioned ghost), and to top it all off some of the best and most heartfelt send ups of Shakespeare and the value of theatre ever committed to television. There's more I could add but this ask is already way too long.
Emily Nussbaum, Pulitzer prize winning television critic for the new Yorker, calls it her personal favourite television show, and imo it really holds up -- my last rewatch was in 2020 and I'm probably gonna do it again this year lol.
Sorry if you have already watched and know all this but ever since you made that post about sneaking into the citibank event at Donmar I was like "omg Thea has to watch slings..." OK thank u for your consideration sorry this was a novel-length ask.
I love this show! I watched it years ago though so it might be time for a rewatch. The Rachel McAdams jumpscare was so real.

I've been watching Superstore and like I've worked retail and everything, in fact, I worked at a big grocery store literally called Superstore, but like even in the sanitized toned down version of what retail work is like in the US in the show, oh my god, is it absolutely awful. Like there are things in the show that are just incidental to the plot that I'm looking at and going how is that even possible.
There's an episode where I guy gets his thumb cut off and they try to hide it because they think it's their fault? WTF.
Like people post on here and Reddit and Lemmy and twitter about how awful retail is and I'm like yes, I've done that I can relate comrade. But now I'm like do I even count. I feel like a poser.
I worked in the Real Canadian Superstore but its in Canada and we were unionized with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. so like for the thumb thing, We would immediately obviously report it because workman's comp is literally the law in all of Canada. Like our union rep told us to literally report anything worse than a paper cut even if you don't need medical treatment for it (for good reasons that I don't want to explain rn)
And like the shitbag company I worked for loblaws which is just as scummy and shit as Walmart and whatever paid for dental insurance for all of us out of their pocket, no premiums for us because of our union obviously. If I stayed an extra 15 minutes past my shift time because my manager asked me to and I agreed, I would get paid extra for the extra time because obviously wtf why wouldn't I?
Like I was watching the whole strike 3 parter and I was like just so confused why they didn't just form a bloody union. I'm like 100 percent certain UFCW or another union was present wherever the store was. Seriously they never even bothered to explain why they didn't in the show. Like our scumbag store still had paid maternity leave, it'd be insane not to have it wtf. I was so confused.
Why are labour laws so fucking awful in America. I'm like realising that my experience in retail was literally in easy mode. Like I am so sorry for American retail workers that don't have government or union support. How do Americans work like this?

In today's news:
"There are posters popping up around Toronto encouraging people to “steal from Loblaws” next month.
The poster reads, “The first annual Steal From Loblaws Day!” and is slated to take place on May 12. The sign did not specify the organizer.
Below the date includes a list of Loblaw-owned companies such as Real Canadian Superstore, NoFrills, Fortinos, T&T, Zehrs, Valu-mart, Your Independent Grocer, Wholesale Club, and Shoppers Drug Mart. "
LOL, Loblaw-owned. Galen Weston owned, more like it. 🙄 "Loblaw" says: " dangerous and irresponsible".

Grandview Corners Wal-mart in South Surrey (BC Canada). It's the one across from the Real Canadian Superstore. They're near the back wall of the toy aisles. 14.97 IIRC, but definitely 14 90-something. First time I've caught them in person so I wanted to share.
Happy hunting.
