One of the things I like most about the new Night Court
... is how it seems to be turning into a popular gig for comedic actors to do a quick and fun sitcom appearance. Which in a way, is in keeping with the spirit of the original.
So many character actors, comedians and comedy legends made their way onto the original Night Court over its 9 seasons that it's nice to see some folks are taking the new one as an opportunity to do the same.
So far, in 2 seasons, we have seen (and this is not all of them, just the folks I can remember off the top of my head):
Wendie Malick - as the unstable woman from Dan's past who is trying to destroy him
Dave Foley - as the valet to Gurgs' Duke boyfriend
Rhys Darby - as the Duke boyfriend
Jenifer Lewis - as the Anna Wintour-esque fashion magazine editor
Richard Kind - as the down-on-his-luck Broadway producer
Melissa Villaseñor - as Neil's old high school crush
Betsy Sodaro - as the churlish janitor who didn't want to help save Dan's favorite bench
Jackie Hoffman - as the mean keeper of the government bureaucratic forms who forced the court to hire her son
Faith Ford - as Abby's mom
Melissa Fumero - as the scary PTA Karen mom from the school Wyatt's daughters attend
Gary Anthony Williams - as the recurring/semi-regular employee Murray Flobert*
Jim Meskimen - as the voiceover for the Shot Clock Showdown basketball game
Stephnie Weir - as the podcast host trying to sling mud for ratings
Kurt Fuller - as the skeevy DA who tries to manipulate Abby and later get her suspended
Julia Duffy - as Abby's boyfriend's mom [added on 28-Mar]
And of course, the show is also in a wonderful position to give other actors a small onscreen role as defendants in the regular court cases that don't get much backstory or are just there to set up a joke or two. For actors just starting out or who usually play background characters, this is a nice little gem on the resume.
I'm not sure how many seasons the new show will get, but as a fan of sitcoms and lighter entertainment fare that I feel our society desperately needs right now, I'm just happy that the show can make such a positive contribution to the TV landscape again.
*Since he's a semi-regular, he probably shouldn't be included on this list, but I'm a huge fan of Gary's so I wanted to show him some love. Plus, he's a great addition to the cast.

[Twenty-Seven Days Ago]
You may already know this, but while those figures were circulating the streets of Markle-world, in the real world, she had her PR grossly inflate her earning potential to match her inflated self-evaluation. Here's what was really going on for anyone who may not know already:
I'm connected to a prominent figure in the film industry. He told me that she NEVER had any hope of actually working in Hollywood neither before her marriage nor after Megxit. Suits was a cable show produced in Toronto and she A) never made it past #6 on the call sheet (importance of cast members in each episode) and B) was being written out BEFORE she met Harry. She spun it to look like they wrote her out because of Harry and her marriage, but that's not what happened. She was scrambling for work and aggravating the shit out of everyone from Reese Witherspoon, to Barbara Broccoli, all the way to Wendy Williams trying to get screen work.  She was also having her agent trying to get her work as the face for major fashion labels and nobody was returning her calls except for Reitman's, and her behavior was so awful they regretted it. She didn't save her Suits money, she owned no property, and she was running out of time and money. Kind of like now.
The truth is that Markle is the luckiest con artist in the world and I have to give her credit for scoring a fucking Prince of the United Kingdom right when she needed money most.  It's uncanny.
Now, though, she's shown her hand. She may not realize it, but she has. Nobody will ever hire her for anything again unless they've been in a coma the past five years, and she'd ruined herself in Hollywood back when she played the Fed Ex girl in Horrible Bosses. She pissed off Jennifer Anniston by acting like a diva, and Jen has a lot of clout. No one legit was going to hire her after that.
The ONLY reason she got the Netflix, Spotify, and Penguin contracts was because HARRY was worth the money-- or so they thought. They were all told at the making of the deals that H&M would be working for i.e. giving access to the Royal Family for 50% of the time. When that fell through, a huge part of their "business plan" died. Meghan was allegedly on speakerphone with the meeting and screaming mad when that didn't happen. She allegedly told the Queen to drop dead. I don't know that for a fact, but as Netflix had been following them around, it is a rumor that came out of the NF crew and trickled out to the rest of Hollywood. I personally would hope she wouldn’t tell anyone to drop dead, certainly not the Queen of England, but...
Anyway, the palace reportedly hung up on her and have refused to speak to her since. There have been times when she has been handled, like by Camilla at the Jubilee or Sophie at the funeral, but no one really speaks to her and she will never have a direct audience with the monarch again. Anyway, when they lost the 50/50, they lost a lot of what they promised these companies, but they were still popular enough with the public then that they could have still made something work. We've watched how that has turned out.
So long story short, Meghan isn't worth what was reported. Best estimates for the contracts are
Netflix- $20 million Spotify- $5 million
I don't know what the big wigs are paying for memoirs from ex-royalty and shitty children's fiction from an ex-Royal's soon-to-be- ex wife, but my best guess, for a four book deal with Prince Harry writing a tell all, is $10 million advance and then a percent of sales.
That seems like a lot of money to us plebes, but they hemorrhage money on housing alone. Then there's staff, publicity, SECURITY, legal fees, Meghan's ugly designer clothes, private jet flights, polo (an incredibly expensive sport), et al. Their money is spent before it even comes in. They lose more money through Archewell than they gain.
Anyway, the truth is that without Harry, Meghan is worth $0. She's worth less than $0. And the Royal Family know it. Hopefully she'll take whatever they offer, sign an NDA and run. But this IS Meghan... so...

What The Hell Is Going On With Red Carpets?
Tumblr media
So, the Golden Globes are on tonight. *Wendy Williams voice* Clap if you care.
That's what I thought.
Once upon a time, at least as recently as my childhood, even if you didn't see any of the films that were nominated at the Golden Globes or any of the shows nominated at the Emmys, or any of the plays nominated at the Tonys, you'd still tune in to the red carpet coverage to see rich people at their best: playing dress up in clothes none of us can afford.
But that time has clearly passed. 'Cause what the hell is this?
Tumblr media
Now, I haven't watched The Bear, but does Ayo Edebiri play a dishwasher? What are those gloves?
Never mind the noticeable absence of neck adornment with many perfectly fine gowns that absolutely need jewelry, what is going on!? All the wrinkled gowns, poor (or no) tailoring, ugly poufs and peplums and some of the worst shoe choices I've ever seen in my life could all be excused if it weren't all such a bore.
Minds much smarter than I have speculated that there's truly nothing new left to be done. I don't believe it. What I do believe, however, is that celebrities are scared to do it. Scared to go too far, scared to really push the envelope for fear they'll be eviscerated on social media, and so they go for what's safe and...still get eviscerated on social media.
But why are they so afraid of us not liking their outfits? Who the hell are we? Back in the day, you had Joan Rivers to impress, you had tabloids at the cash register of every supermarket just itching to put you on the Worst Dressed List, and, usually, no stylist to create your vision and make it the best it could possibly be. How have we gone so far backwards in a world that accepts Crocs as a valid fashion choice?
My earliest fashion WOW moment was Celine Dion and her backwards Galliano tuxedo which, if you're well-versed in fashion lore, you know was a total flop at the time. But we look back on it now as one of the most daring, iconic looks of the 90s.
Now, I can admit that a lot has been done, so maybe there is a lot less left to do, but, it seems like nobody wants to even try to make a moment that no one has ever seen before, and I can't help but think about how if the celebs are too scared, regular people have to be terrified to try to push the envelope. I mean, not to constantly go back to the oversaturation of pre-packaged aesthetics that one only needs to add to cart to create an entirely new identity, but, it does appear that we, as a collective, are in a real dry spell when it comes to newness. Even those constant new aesthetics are just repackaging of old ideas. Has a fear of social media backlash permeated the masses? Are we all paralyzed at the idea of being a little "out there" lest some faceless TikTokUser30592058 say something mean?
Maybe. Or maybe I could be speaking too soon. Perhaps we'll look back on some the neck-less looks of today with fondness. I could certainly make a case for Jessica Chastain's dress being one of the best tonight if only she had gone the extra mile to actually style it.
Tumblr media
But, I don't know. When I imagine the 2023 version of a 7-year-old Lakyn--the aspiring fashion designer she was--looking at the red carpet today, I just don't see that WOW moment. Does anyone feel inspired by this?
And where the F$%K are the necklaces!!??!

Andy Warhol's Fifteen Minutes
Tumblr media
"If anyone knows anything about Warhol, besides his connection to Campbell’s soup, it’s his obsession with an obsession. So a talk show aired on television, one can imagine, served as the ideal canvas for the artist to parade the collections he’d amassed throughout his life. The result is a television experience that is widely eclectic, electric, and erratic. Andy Warhol’s Fifteen Minutes is a show that lands somewhere in between a daily vlog fused with Wendy Williams’s Hot Topics and Sesame Street. The show is an homage to the glamorous world the artist built, where he engaged in exhilarating discourse on fashion, politics, and nightlife with his closest friends and favorite downtown weirdos—Grace Jones, Debbie Harry, Keith Haring, and many of the hunks the artist crushed on." "Warhol was always ahead of his time, from the use of repetition in his art to his seemingly vapid obsession with celebrity, and his unabashed need to create utopias for the people running from something, anything really, in search of themselves. That this show appeared in my life during a time when the world is falling apart and the search for creative bursts is at an all-time high does not escape me. It is a well-known fact, and common belief among creators, that when life gets rough, it’s time to create. Watching Warhol’s briefly lived talk show—it only aired from 1985 to 1987, because good things don’t last—has sparked in me a sense of hope and defiance that hasn’t been present in my soul or physical body ever since New York stopped feeling like New York. So come along, “take a ride to the wild side,” and enter the world of Andy Warhol’s Fifteen Minutes."

Christie Brinkley To Help Wendy Williams Find Divorce Attorney
Christie Brinkley has Wendy Williams‘ back.
Appearing as a guest on Tuesday’s episode of The Wendy Williams Show, Brinkley spoke out in support of the host amid her divorce from her longtime love and manager Kevin Hunter.
Brinkley has been married four times: to François Allaux from 1973-1981, to Billy Joel from 1985-1994, to Richard Taubman from 1994-1995 and to Peter Cook from 1996-2008.
When Williams, 54, asked Brinkley, 65, if she would ever get married again, the supermodel said no — and offered to share some of her divorce expertise with Williams.
“If you need any help with lawyers, I can tell you — I have been through the entire phonebook of lawyers,” she joked.
“I will whisper to you during the break,” Williams responded. “I have one, but I want to hear what you’re saying.”
“I know you’ve been going through some hard times,” Brinkley said.
“I have,” Williams acknowledged.
Brinkley suggested they “string together some good times.”
“Your house, 4th of July, in the Hamptons?” Williams asked. “I’m there. Count me in.”
Williams filed for divorce from Hunter last week after two decades of marriage. Her personal rep issued a statement to PEOPLE, saying, “Thank you to everyone for respecting the family’s privacy during this time. Kevin is supportive of Wendy and they are working through this process together. No additional comment will be provided at this time.”
Williams and Hunter, 46, share son Kevin Jr., 19. They’ve had their struggles as a couple: Hunter cheated on Williams after she gave birth to their son, a painful period she described in her 2004 memoir Wendy’s Got the Heat.
On Monday, a source told PEOPLE that Williams decided to divorce Hunter after she learned that he’d allegedly cheated on her once again, this time fathering a child. (PEOPLE was unable to reach Hunter and his alleged mistress for comment. A rep for Williams could not be reached for comment.)
“The split is definitely due to Kevin’s ongoing infidelity and that his mistress recently welcomed their child,” the source said. “Wendy had hired a private investigator and confronted him. He confessed to everything three weeks ago.”
“All of the recent drama put a huge strain on Wendy and caused her to struggle with her sobriety as she did everything she could to try and save their marriage,” the source added.
Filing for divorce wasn’t an easy choice, either.
“The decision to split was terribly hard for her, but she’s regaining her health,” the source explained. “She decided she needed to finally put herself first.”
On Tuesday, Hunter broke his silence on the split in a statement to PEOPLE.
“28 years ago I met an amazing woman: Wendy Williams. At the time, I didn’t realize that she would not only become my wife, but would also change the face of entertainment and the world,” he said. “I have dedicated most of our lives to the business empire that is Wendy Williams Hunter, a person that I truly love and respect unconditionally.”
“I am not proud of my recent actions and take full accountability and apologize to my wife, my family and her amazing fans,” he continued. “I am going through a time of self-reflection and am trying to right some wrongs. No matter what the outcome is or what the future holds, we are still The Hunter Family and I will continue to work with and fully support my wife in this business and through any and all obstacles she may face living her new life of sobriety, while I also work on mine. I ask that you please give me and my family privacy as we heal. Thank you.”
The split comes at a challenging time for the star. After taking an extended hiatus from The Wendy Williams Show from January to March, Williams, who has long been open about a past addiction to cocaine, revealed last month that she has been living in a sober house.
On Monday’s broadcast of The Wendy Williams Show, Williams said she would “moving out of the sober house in just a few days” and alluded to her divorce while reflecting on the motto of her Hot Topics segment, “Their business is our business.”
“It’s crazy ’cause now my business is your business,” she said with a laugh. “It’s kind of funny. Turnabout’s a fair game, I get it.”
“I have to tell you, you know, I’ve been dealing with issues with addiction, alcoholism, and I have a whole new life that I planned for myself and my son,” she continued. “Believe me you, when you lay in a room with no TV and four gray walls all day … this is my life in the sober house, it’s one of the best things, honestly, that could have ever happened to me.”
Williams said speaking openly about her struggles on her show has been hugely beneficial.
“Addressing my sobriety, my addiction, head-on has really helped me sort out every single compartment of my life,” she said. “I have a commitment to me and my son to come out of here better, stronger and faster than ever. And by the way, I will still commit. … I commit that the motto of this show will always be, ‘Their business is our business.'”
The Wendy Williams Show airs weekdays (check local listings).
