15 questions untagged
Were you named after anyone?: Simon from popular work The Bible. I liked the story of him being a fisherman, he had worked all day and not caught anything, then Christ asked him to put down his net one more time and though he complained, he did it, and then caught a whole net load of fish. It reminds me that no matter how bleak things seem or how much hard work and how long it can take to reach abundance, keep trying, keep believing. My birth name was not after anyone and was one of the most popular names in my generation
When was the last time you cried?: damn like every day over something heartwarming or something. but I had a biiig cry when my trans tape didn't work and hurt
Do you have kids?: no, I may adopt someday if I get married which I might like to, or raise their children if they have any. But I would prefer a partner who did not want to get pregnant, I just have strong feelings about adoption. However raising kids is probably not right for me so I'd like to work as a volunteer 'big brother' or babysit for members of a church a lot or something like that
Do you use sarcasm a lot?: Sure, not constantly but maybe a little more than average or that I'm comfortable with
What’s the first thing you notice about people?: If their fit is good
What’s your eye color?: hazel. mid-forest green with a strong gold ring around the center
Scary movies or happy endings?: Most scary movies have pretty happy endings, all things considered. I do like scary movies and used to be a HUGE fan of them, but I like heartwarming stuff too. But I do think I prefer a movie that leaves me feeling disturbed, concerned, sad, etc
Any special talents?: Digital and traditional painting and illustration, physical non-digital sculpting, sewing, fashion design, video game making, essay writing/research, I used to do poetry and lyric writing, I practice singing but I would not classify that as a talent I am "good at", used to play piano a bit and viola more before that - my sight reading is pretty damn good, video editing, cooking is decent but more so my sandwich prep is excellent
Where were you born?: in the same town I live in now. the hospital was closed after my birth and was semi famous for being haunted and has since been torn down and turned into apartments
What are your hobbies?: of stuff not listed in my talents: model kits and puzzle building, gaming I suppose, watching supergreatfriend, Jerma, and the Watcher Boys; praying, meditating, and studying religions; walking and scootering outside, collecting hot wheels/toys
Have any pets?: nope. waiting to hear back from a rescue if they'll let be get their beautiful cat. if not I will get a bird in a few months or so
What sports do you play/have you played?: gymnastics and figure skating as a kid, and I loved swimming, then I wanted to get into soccer but couldn't. Played DDR. I roller bladed and biked, biked quite a bit and am planning to get into it again. I got into body building a bit as a teen and am back into that now. I occasionally try tricks with my scooter but I am not into breaking my limbs again so I don't do it much
How tall are you?: 5'2"
Favorite subject in school?: art *fart noises*. But really everything, I even loved math until I got older and the dyscalculia and difficulty with abstract math started hittin. Biology was my fav science course.
Dream job?: In a communist world where you get paid for low tier jobs and everything isn't managed like shit and I have accessibility for my disability - no shot, a grocery store worker. I love answering questions and helping people, I love organizing things, and sometimes you're like.. the only person that some people will see that week, especially elderly people. You can be really helpful if you know a lot about all the different products. It's not just an underappreciated job in the typical 'fuck low wagers' sense but also I feel like people don't get how unlike a specalist store you may only visit every now and then unless its for your job or a very active hobby, a corner/drug/grocery store is a really important part of your neighborhood! And I'm really good at it!

Reki in a skirt. Reki stealing one of Koyomi's skirts without anyone in his family knowing. Reki putting it on in his room when no one is home. Reki feeling really good in a skirt but not ready to do anything about it so he only enjoys it when he's alone. Reki finding little pleasures in being a little more feminine from time to time. Reki who likes stealing things from his sister's closet, things she never wears. Genderfluid Reki who isn't confident enough to do anything about it, isn't confident enough to come out to anyone, but who still wants to wear skirts and pink from time to time

Trouble In Paradise (Yuzuru Hanyu x Reader)
Tumblr media
Request: "I was thinking of figure skater!reader x Yuzuru Hanyu, where they are dating and doing Fantasy on Ice. One night, where reader is especially exhausted she gets into an argument with him. During the following show, the audience and fellow skaters notice that something is wrong especially after she gave up her place as the first jumper at the end to Evgenia when Alina wanted to do it and she tried to stay as far away from Yuzuru the whole show when he tried to make amend with her. Later that night, they reconcile. The next day, it was in every news that reader prefers Evgenia over Alina and was in conflict with Yuzuru. So reader has to make an official "apology" to explain that she was exhausted" - @thehappygrungelife
A/N: this is actually my first request from Tumblr and I'm very grateful to the person who asked for a request and I really hope I do it a justice
Warning: angst + fluff (happy ending), some cursing and heated argument
It was another day of practice for FaOI (Fantasy on Ice) and for some reason, you were not in your best shape. You would constantly be off beat compared to others and even when it was your turn to practice your performance, it was all but good; it wasn't even near your "ok" performance.
Okay, maybe it wasn't because you woke up on the wrong side of the bed. The other day you've been pushing yourself quite hard and it was the first day of your period. To top it off? The only thing your boyfriend, Yuzu did was telling you that it'll be alright and one bad day won't do any harm since everyone has those days.
I mean, who could blame him, practice isn't always easy when you're not into it. The whole entire day, you just prayed that practice would be over as soon as possible but of course, the more you want time to go by, the longer it actually is.
After what feels like days, practice was finally over and you were all dismissed to go back to your hotel. But despite feeling rough, you decided to wait for Yuzu since you just wanted to sulk and complain to him. But when you saw Yuzu talking with other female skaters, you decided to just leave in your grumpy state.
Throughout the rest of the day, you kept on ignoring all the notifications you got from Yuzu. Every message, every phone call, you ignored them all. Until you heard a knock on the door to your hotel room. Thinking it was the room service you ordered but it turns out to be a not pleased Yuzu.
"Where were you? I've called you so many times. Did you even check your phone?!" Yuzu questioned, his tone was immediately an octave higher
"It was charging. I'm trying to not look at my phone too much. It stresses me out" you shrugged, going back to your bed and looking at your laptop
"What's the difference with your laptop then?! You know what, never mind. Do you know how worried I was?! I thought something happened to you" Yuzu sighed, stress combing his hair
"Oh, now you noticed. I'm fine. Thanks for asking. You should head back and rest. Our show is literally tomorrow" you mentioned, not looking away from your laptop
"What's with you? Did something happen? Did someone hurt you?!" Yuzu started to get worried
"Nothing much. Just another tiring day. I'm serious Yuzu, just go. You need your rest too" you replied, sighing
"Why? Why are you pushing me away?! We barely talked today" Yuzu complained
"I'm just tired and on my period. Can we please not have this conversation. I don't want to lash out at you" you sighed, getting up from the bed
"Why? Why would you lash out? C'mon, let's just talk. I'm worried about you" Yuzu mentioned, taking your hands in his
"Why don't you just go back to the other skaters. I really am not in the mood to talk. Just go" you groaned, letting your hands go
"This talk isn't over (Y/N). You can be mad at me but we still have to talk it through. Get some rest, alright?" Yuzu sighed in defeat, leaving you in your room
Oh how you wish you could just make the whole week go by as fast as Thanos' snap. But, like it or not, you just have to face it and get through cause eventually it'll all be over.
Unfortunately, the other skaters and even the audience knew that something was wrong. Your typical bubbly and enthusiastic self was nowhere to be seen. Sure, you managed to perform your skating until the end, but it seems something was off. Your expression didn't lie.
What threw it off even more is when you were supposed to be the first jumper before the closing but you decided to let Zhenya do it, telling her that you weren't feeling well and your period cramps were acting up more than the usual and because Zhenya was the closest to you.
After the performance was over, there were many words going around and the media started to bring up some news about you preferring Zhenya over Alina to do the first jump. When the news started to blow up, Yuzu was the first to try to find you and talk about why you did what you did; not only that, he also wanted to talk about why you've been avoiding him since last night and even during the whole event.
However, the second the staff told everyone to go backstage, you were the first to leave the stage because your period cramps were getting unbearable and you quickly excused to be able to go back to the hotel on your own, trying to get away from the media who were plastering questions to why you decided to give your first jump spot to Zhenya.
Over on Yuzu's side, his eyes were traced on you throughout the whole show. Especially when you gave up your first jump spot for someone else when you normally are enthusiastic to do it. When Yuzu saw you quickly going backstage, he didn't hesitate to follow you. Calling out for you and asking you to talk but he lost sight of you and you eventually went out of the room before he could get to you, sparking another drama for the media.
Throughout the rest of the day, you just shut any kind of way for people to contact you and just passed out since the period cramps were getting to you. You didn't know how long you've been sleeping until you heard several, no, multiple knocks on your door that could probably be heard throughout the floor you were staying.
Grunting, you finally woke up and headed towards the door, opening it and revealed Yuzu, your boyfriend and the person you honestly don't really want to talk to but at the same time, relieved that it was him instead of someone else. Sighing, you knew that you were going to have the talk sooner or later. So, you finally let him in, telling him that you just woke up.
"Before you ask anything. I just woke up" you mentioned, closing the door as Yuzu came in
"What happened? Are you sick? You didn't seem too well. If you were sick, you could've said so instead of pushing yourself and not putting on your best performance" Yuzu started to lecture
"Yuzu..." you mumbled
"Like honestly. I was worried. We're all worried about you but you kept pushing us away" Yuzu argued
"Yuzu!! Stop!!" you raised your voice back
"No. Look, I get it if you're tired but that doesn't mean you should just push people away" Yuzu argued back
"YUZURU HANYU!! I SAID. STOP IT" you shouted, stunning Yuzu since he never saw you this angry
"Please. I'm already tired from a stressful week and my period just came yesterday and the cramps were unbearable even when I've taken medication" you sighed, plopping back on your bed as Yuzu follows you
"Not only that. I was hoping to be able to have a night of just the both of us yesterday but you were talking to other skaters and I don't want to seem so clingy or anything. I also don't want to be mad at you since my mood swings during my period is not the greatest. But guess the media thought otherwise" you explained
"Hey, hey, look at me. Why didn't you say anything? No one would've ever thought something like that, hmm? Especially me. You're not clingy at all. I actually like it you know. Makes me feel more loved and wanted. It's actually one of the things I like about you. What bout letting Zhenya jump first? Was it also because of your period?" Yuzu softly asked, holding your hands in his as he kneeled in front of you
"Yea. And Zhenya was the closest to me. I swear there's no hate going around or anything" you replied, sighing
"Alright. Let's not worry about that. We can deal with the media tomorrow. I'm just glad that you're alright. Please tell me whenever you don't feel well or if something doesn't sit right with you, okay? No matter what reason it is. No matter if you think it's silly, I want to hear about it. We're in this together. Whatever your problem is, it's my problem too and I want to help you" Yuzu reminded, holding your hand tightly in his
"Okay. I'm sorry for making you and everyone else worry" you mumbled
"It's alright. Just don't hide anything from me anymore okay? Now let's just rest. I'll help you deal with the media tomorrow, hmm?" Yuzu mentioned, pressing a gentle kiss on your forehead
"Are you staying?" you murmured, looking into his eyes
"If you want me to. If not, I'll just stay until you're asleep" Yuzu replied, patting your head
"You can stay. I don't feel like I'll be able to sleep anytime soon since I did just take a long nap" you mentioned
"Alright. Then I'll stay here to comfort you. Let's just watch a film, hmm? I'll order some room service" Yuzu mentioned, going over to the phone to call for room service but you stopped him
"Thank you, Yuzu. I really am lucky to have you" you smiled, looking at Yuzu with eyes full of love
"And I am too. I'm thankful to have you as well. Thankful that you're able to make me warmer and more open to others" Yuzu giggled, taking your hand and kissing it
In the end, the both of you just cuddled up in your bed and watched some movies to end the night, thanking the universe for bringing the both of you together. Because, in the end of the day, no matter what difficult situations you may face, with the right person, you can get through it.
A/N: @thehappygrungelife I hope that I did your request a justice and hope that you like it :)

Heya! Be sure to read Part One first, or you won't know why she is where she is!
And here is the next chapter
In Which Her Discomfort Grows
I come here to be alone. Why are there people everywhere I look!?
She is searching for space. But there is none. Even the tunnel in had company. While it's nice to know you're never really ALONE, sometimes you need to be with yourself....
First stop was the flower garden, where some other Skykid had placed a cushion and was sitting exactly in the center. The Geographer's ledges were also occupied by a pair of rather chatty folks, so that was out.
For a brief beautiful moment, she had found solitude under the Beckoning Ruler, next to the light hidden there. But no sooner had she let out a breath of relief before someone rushed in behind her! Even the tunnel and the bench for moon-watching were occupied- And the offending napper was SNORING!
Maybe I am more of an oddity than I thought. We seem to be very social creatures, and I am not. .... Can't stay here, can't go Home, can't go BACK....
That left exactly one option, and it was the one she hated most. But aside from being overwhelmed, Kani was ANGRY now. She didn't WANT to sit still, there was ENERGY inside her and it needed OUT!
There is no place better for that than the Valley. And no place better for skating than the Village. I just hope I can get there... I can do this. I WILL do this!
She hates the Wind Paths. Finding her way in was hard enough, and then an overly helpful manta took her back INTO the cloud tunnel she had just come OUT of!
No, no, no, no, let me GO- Other WAY- BACK! ..... Great. Now I am even more lost. Is it this- That's Prophecy.... Sanctuary.... Ark... That's the way I just came.....?
How long has it been since she landed? Even a sky child needs to feel the ground under their feet once in a while. It's so easy to get turned around among the clouds... So dizzy and it all looks the same- It feels as though she is no longer attached to herself. Like she's WATCHING herself get lost rather than BEING there. But after far longer than Koulokani would ever admit, there was snow crowning the rocks below her.
Hermit Valley. Didn't even know this place existed until.... Oh? Oh! There's a light there! I never saw him before! Maybe this way isn't so terrible after all.
Even a place named for solitude wasn't empty, but she's not here to chat. At the bottom of this is the Village of Dreams, and while you might expect a village to have a population, the place was usually very empty. Would the gondola be easier? Probably. But there is something oh-so satisfying about the wind rushing past her mask and making her pigtails fly and how FAST everything goes by and the next thing she knows she can't even remember why she was so angry in the first place!
She's laughing with delight at the wake of powder behind her and the THUD that comes along with every landing and the sound she makes sliding down the valley, that shhhhhhhhh you don't quite hear any other way- Ah, but then the bottom is reached.
Light the candles. .... They're heading up, and I don't see anyone ELSE...
Kani has a friend who lives here, in one of these houses. But she's not sure she ever found out which one. And she does not see a single other Skykid.
There's the quest-giver, and the Spinning Mentor, but they are always here.
Still. There is very little she hates more than being LOOKED at, so... Maybe the rink in the center of town isn't the best spot. Fortunately, there are others, and it's there she finds herself a few minutes of BEING.
Her lantern in the snow nearby, her cape drained from her flight down- Why bother to recharge if she's only going to be skating? She had no interest in waiting around any longer, especially with no NEED for it! Why bother standing under the tiny lamp or by the pile of candles for AGES and risk missing the chance to practice NOW?
Around, around, around, around.... Faster, faster, faster!
The ice is smooth and bumpy under her boots, she can feel it. She's trying to get enough speed to manage a backflip, but.... Eeesh, better not. She changes her mind about halfway and tries for a twirl instead. Much less painful to miss that landing.
I wonder if this is how the Phoenix felt. Did it feel like freedom to her? They couldn't fly, not like we can. Perhaps this was close enough. ... One day, I will be as good as her.
Kani always felt a strange sort of kinship with that particular spirit. And honestly, a fair amount of envy. So pretty, so graceful, so determined.... And so BRAVE! With all those people watching? And she still wanted it enough to do it?
I am so glad she made it. And I wouldn't have found how much I liked to skate without her. Maybe we need THEM as much as they need US.
That's enough thinking for now. She shakes her head and looks at her feet- She wants to get this right. Arms go, legs go, all around her, the world SPINS. How could anyone manage this in the stadium, with all the fireworks and the noise? Just thinking about it makes her queasy and she throws out her arms to catch her balance and stop-
........
Someone is clapping. Someone was watching. Don't. Don't panic. Don't say anything. Maybe they will leave....

Oh, could you tell more about your experience at GPF 2019 in Torino? I was thinking of maybe going next season
If you have the chance to go to the GPF you should grab it. 😊 (just maybe consider some things for your decision and decide if it's worth it.) I share my experience, which is completely personal and should not be seen as an advice what you can expect at the next GPF, which surely will be a lot different.
How to say it...GPF 2019 in Torino holds some special memories...but not all of them are good. 😅 Most are good though 😊
Well...the first disappointment was already before I even got to Torino, which was that Shoma didn't make the GPF due to his disaster in the GP series. As I was looking forward to finally see Yuzu and Shoma in one competition (which I still didn't manage) I was very disappointed - not in Shoma, but just in the fact he wouldn't be there.
I was still looking forward to it a lot because it would be the second time seeing Yuzu live in competition. Seeing Yuzu is always special. He just has this presence where ppl just have to look at him. I watched his training - yeah also the scary scary 4A attempts and just had my heart break seeing him crash to the ground. I know that's how you train, but still seeing it caused some trauma. So while ofc he is brave for trying it, I still just don't want him to get hurt again and again and again. But Yuzu even in practice is someone I cannot take my eyes off. Even though Yuzu had a mistake in the SP, his step sequence is one of my favorite memories from this event. Just how he threw himself into it was sooo great.
The ppl I spend my time with there, made the competition worth it. In the end it's always the ppl who you can share the experience with who makes events special. To sit in restaurants and talk about skating, to meet new ppl from different countries and that no matter who you talk to you will always find a topic to talk, because in the end everyone is there because of figure skating.
The competition in general has positive memories and negative memories. The problem with a GPF is that only 6 skaters/couples per discipline will make it, which means that you cannot really say for sure who will make it (Shoma hello 😭) so actually a lot of the skaters weren't really the skaters I wanted to see. Especially the men field besides Yuzu was underwhelming for me. And on top the competition wasn't very good either. Ofc Yuzu was amazing, Kevin Aymoz was a pleasant surprise and I mean I am not a Nathan fan at all, but he was good. The rest though performed below their level. Most enjoyable was ice dance actually in both juniors and seniors. I love P/Cs "Fame" RD and Kazakova/Reviya's FD "In the end" 😍
One problem also with the competition is the mix between juniors and seniors and the many breaks between the events due to ice resurface etc. Then I have special problem with the arena in Torino, first you aren't able to get seats at the judges site (they were blocked), plexi glas is blocking your view in many places, only seats in one category have a back, which isn't good for ppl like me with back problems. So while reaching Torino is quite easy for me, I also had a not so expensive hotel nearby, the arena itself and the prices is what is making me reluctant to go there again. (Though knowing myself I will probably still go but still not like the arena)
Seeing Yuzu is also special because of the fans, it's a two sided sword. The majority of Fanyus/Yuzu fans are normal skating fans who cheer and clap for everyone and a full arena is always more fun than an empty one. Most Fanyus are easy to spot, because lots carry Pooh stuff around. The support for Yuzu was overwhelming and seeing the Pooh rain in person is a special memory. I also got some Yuzu postcards and clearfiles from Fanyus, so I was very happy with what I received. Most fans are sooo nice and just happy to share memories about Yuzu. Some fans were just present when Yuzu skated, what I personally have nothing against doing, but I just find it a bit sad for the other competitors when an arena sold tickets so well and still for most of the competition the front rows remain empty. I don't mean to criticize anyone for how they do fandom - do as it suits you - but it was noticeable. Though this was not the majority, the negative fan examples are what still stick to my mind (maybe because it's always easy to remember negative feelings) There was some behavior by fans I didn't like for example the screaming at the practice to the point it was almost distracting for Yuzu himself. And when some fans (not sure if these were really Fanyus) held a sign after the medal ceremony where skaters had to see it. I don't remember what was written on it exactly, but to me anything concerning scoring and the ISU is not suitable to display at an medal ceremony and especially not into the skaters' faces who have absolutely 0 influence in the way they are scored. I personally had my own beef with the scoring of Yuzu and Nathan, so I understand being upset about the scores, I just don't think the skaters are the right ppl to adress.
Generally speaking I have mixed feelings about this competition. It's filled joy for seeing Yuzu and also P/C and many more skaters I really love, remembering the fun I had with my fellow skating friends, but also remembering the anger about the judging, the arena being uncomfortable (not to mention the awful toilet and eating situation) and the fact that some of the competition was pretty underwhelming.
I still value this experience and there is no regret at all that I went there, but admittedly I experienced more fun competitions. 😅
Here are some of my pics from the GPF 2019.

How is Hands of Fate coming? Any way we can get a sneak?
Hi hi! Been a crazy busy week for me so I didn’t get all I wanted done. I have half the first scene 😂 Here’s a little:
“Will I be home in time to see Santa Claus?”
The one thing Dany knew as a surgeon, especially with children, was never make promises. As Christmas Eve was in a week, she was fairly certain that young Sam— his mother kept referring to him as ‘Little Sam’ even though the child was five, would be home in time for Christmas, but she kept her words vague, for him and his parents.
She smiled gently, reaching to adjust the Santa hat one of the nurses had brought into the ER room— it had been pretty busy and the pediatric rooms were full— to comfort him. “I will do my best Sam, to get you home to Santa. I don’t think you’re going to be sneaking around to look up the chimney though.”
“Just so we can make our flight back north,” his mother Gilly said, biting her lip nervously. “I knew he shouldn’t have been ice skating.”
“Ice skating can’t cause appendicitis, dear,” her husband, who Dany guessed was Big Sam, said. He had already told her he was a doctor. Except he didn’t practice, since he’d gone straight to research. He smiled at her. “Right?”
She shrugged her shoulder. “Probably not, but doesn’t matter how he got it, he did and we will get that pesky appendix taken out right away so you can get home to see Santa.”
“Thank you Dr. Dany,” Little Sam sighed, gazing up with a bright smile. “You’re nice.”
Honestly I’m a bitch, you’re just too young to know, she thought, forcing a smile. She rubbed his shoulder and picked up the iPad from the end of the bed. “Sit tight, we will have someone bring you up soon. Think about what you want Santa ti bring you in the meantime.”
While she inputted the information into the iPad to request transfer to the OR, which Satin had already reserved for her, she wandered from the ER room towards the elevator, not paying much attention where she was going, and didn't realize until she'd walked through a set of double doors to the hospital-staff only bank of elevators, that Missandei and Margaery had both appeared to flank her.
It felt like she was a deer being lured into the wolf's den, she thought, sliding narrow-eyed glances from one woman to the other. They were both smiling, expectedly, and Margaery had her arms crossed pompously over her chest. "Well?" she demanded, arching a chestnut eyebrow. "How did it go?"
"How did what go?"
"Your date," Missy said, smirking. She punched the button for up. "You didn't call me or anything. Just said you were fine. You've been silent for the entire day."
"It's been busy. I have an emergency appendectomy."
Marge snorted. "Puh-lease, Satin told us that Jon demanded your phone number later and Robb told me this morning that Jon wasn't telling him how it went." She shrugged. "Not that that means anything, Jon never speaks. I thought he was mute when I first met him. Anyways, what happened? He didn't kill you, clearly, and you came in on time so I know you didn't bone down on the first date which isn't your style anyway."
"No that's yours," she shot back, because it was. Margaery shrugged again, uncaring. She sighed hard, stepping into the elevator when the doors pushed back. She punched the floor for the ORs and shook her head. "It was fine."
The two women exchanged looks behind her back, rather obviously. "Just fine?" Missy questioned. She pursed her lips. "No way was it just fine."
"He's nice."
"He's bloody sex on two legs, of course he's nice!" Margaery exclaimed. She pushed her shoulder. "Tell us how it went or I'll beat Satin for the information."
"You say that like I care if you beat Satin."
"He clearly knows what really happened."
"He doesn't, he just gave Jon my phone number."
"So are you seeing this guy again?"
Missandei hurried after her, while Margaery pulled out her phone, which had begun buzzing, the elevator almost catching her in it when the doors shut and she wasn't fast enough to escape. "Come on Dany, tell me what's going on, you're never this quiet about a date."
Because a date had never meant this much to her. It was odd how close she felt to this man, and she didn't want to ruin it. "I'm seeing him on Saturday," she admitted. She kept her mouth shut the more they pressed, following her to the administration desk while she began the process of logging in and prepping for the surgery. She had to go scrub up too. She chewed her bottom lip, wanting to get her phone out and text him. They'd texted a bit in the morning, but he was working and she was too, so they had been short and mostly just prepping for Saturday.
Two days away, she felt kind of sick to her stomach about it all. He hadn't mentioned it and nor had she, but there was another support group meeting tomorrow. They might see each other then. They might not. She exhaled hard, tapping away at the iPad. "He's a nice guy," she repeated again, it was all she could really come up with. She smiled, in spite of herself. "He hates Christmas too."

Twelve Days of Rarepairs: Sciles | Scott McCall x Stiles Stilinski (Teen Wolf)
Requested by @childofsquidward & anonymous
It's a lot colder inside the ice rink than Stiles remembers. He can't even take his jacket off, and his fingers are practically numb trying to do up his skates. But he's not letting that stop him.
Well. Mostly. He's just warming up a bit before he actually skates, staying seated in the stands, eating a Reese's cup. For energy!
Of course, when he tries to use that on Scott, he just gives him a look and a smile.
"Come on," Scott says, holding out a hand. "Neither of us have skated since Sophomore year. We're both totally out of practice compared to everyone else here."
"Not inspiring much confidence, buddy."
Stiles glances out at their friends, already on the rink as Scott laughs. Allison and Kira gliding along, both laughing as they try and hold onto each other. Malia carefully edging along the side, a hand firmly gripping the barrier while Erica tries to be encouraging while laughing. Even Boyd and Isaac are doing their own thing on the ice. And Lydia and Jackson, skating along perfectly together. Doing little twirls and practically dancing—this isn't a competitive tv show!
But he'll admit… they do look happier than they have in a while. That breakup, moving away, being with other people for a while thing then reuniting really seemed to help.
"I meant that it'll be fine, because we're both… not great at it," Scott says.
Stiles glances from their friends to Scott, to the hand he still has held out to him.
"Fine," he groans, with a theatrical roll of his eyes, taking his hand. Because actually, he doesn't mind. Especially when Scott's holding his hand, lacing their fingers together.
He allows Scott to pull him up off the bench and stumble their way to the ice.
"But if we fall and I break something—" Stiles starts.
"I will carry you to the hospital," Scott says, his smile widening.
"Promise?"
"I absolutely, one-hundred-percent give you my word," Scott promises, stepping closer. "I'll even do it bridal style if you want."
"No, seriously, because my jeep broke down from the cold when we got here and I don't even know how we're getting home, you'd need to carry me," Stiles says.
Scott laughs, rolling his eyes. But he's nodding and saying, "We'll take a look at the jeep later, but yeah, I promise."
"Then lead me to the death trap!" Stiles says.
"You" —Scott leans forward, lips inches from Stiles, pressing a kiss to them with a barely contained smile— "are the biggest dork."
"And you only enable me with your love," Stiles quips back, quickly stealing another kiss.
Scott just shakes his head, his smile making his eyes crinkle slightly. The look he gives him has been the same for the fifteen years they've known each other, not once changed from when they were four. And yet somehow it still never fails to bring a fluttering warmth to Stiles' chest.
He thought that he would become more immune after the first couple months of being together, but if anything he's just softened to it more. And to Scott.
"Come on," he says, pulling himself of his daze with a gentle nudge to Scott's shoulder and a tug of his hand.
"Before we start to annoy all of our friends?" Scott asks, grinning as he complies and allows Stiles to guide him onto the ice.
"Oh, no, we've been annoying them since the day we met," Stiles replies, turning slightly to face Scott, taking the other hand he holds out to him to keep them both balanced. "We are sickeningly in love and they knew before we did."
"I can't disagree with that one," Scott says, and he looks utterly delighted about it.
Stiles misjudges his control and nearly flies backwards when he goes to move his foot a little too far. Fortunately, supernaturally quick reflexes on Scott's part keeps him upright. Except he's also fumbling to keep himself steady, and they're both yelping as they go down.
So, falling on ice hurts. Quite a bit.
"Okay, we're definitely not good at this," Scott groans, and Stiles grunts in agreement.
There is most definitely laughter coming fron somewhere, as well as a few concerned people asking, "oh god, are you okay?"
But after a beat, the laughter takes over in all of them, espscially when there's another yelp from across the rink, followed by, "I'm sorry! I was distracted, I thought you were holding on!"
Scott and Stiles push themselves up into sitting positions, still trying to catch breath from the fall and the laughter that hasn't quite died down yet.
"Why did we think ice skating was a good idea?" Stiles asks.
"Because it's Christmas Eve and Boyd had the keys?" Scott says, shrugging. He's laughing even as he winces and rubs the back of his head. "It's fun!"
"Yeah, breaking your limbs is fun," Stiles says drily. But he's already got an urge to get back up and do it again. Without the falling part.
"Rematch?" Scott suggests.
Stiles turns his head to look at him, his eyes narrowing. "Oh, this is a competition now, is it? What happened to being on my team?"
"I'm always technically on your team," Scott says, then shrugs, his grin widening. "But wouldn't this be more fun?"
Stiles considers it for a moment. Then he nods, holding out his hand.
"All right, a competition it is then," he says.
There's a muttered, "oh no" from close by. He ignores it as Scott happily takes his hand and they manage to stumble back to their feet. And then it's every person for themselves on the ice (aside from Boyd and Lydia, who are smart enough to stand to the side to avoid being plowed over).
Their competition turns into all of them screaming at each other to help them stay upright, or for trying to knock them over. Fortunately, and miraculously, the night does not end in any broken bones or dislocated limbs. Just a few scrapes here and there.
And a jeep that refuses to start back up. Everyone tries to chip in and help fix it, some googling what could be wrong with it while Scott and Stiles mess around with the engine and some wires they probably should be leaving alone.
But when they're taking a break from trying to fix it, and they're just joking around in the snow, Scott and Stiles sitting on the roof of the jeep, just staring up at the stars, it all feels worth it. Especially when the jeeps lights suddenly flash to life after an hour and the engine starts up on its own. Maybe it just wanted the night to last a little longer, like they all did.

{ Haikyuu boys taking you out on your first date HCs }
Tumblr media
ASAHI AZUMANE
we all know he's rlly nervous about y'alls first date
he probably asks the boys for help about places to go, and how to ask you out!!
Suga, Daichi, Yachi, Kiyoko, Ennoshita, and Yams are super helpful!! They give him a lot of helpful tips, and even help him figure out a way to ask you out in the most perfect way possible!
Tsukki, Noya, Tanaka, Kags, and Hinta were little to no help. Their Ideas were... Good, but they weren't what he was looking for. He appreciates their help in the end
you both tend to walk home together. It really depends though! Sometimes you're down to wait until practice is over, and sometimes you just wanna go home and do your own thing
so on one of the walks home, he stops you halfway and asks you if you wanted to go roller skating date with him over the weekend
his face is so red
and so is yours because you never would've thought he'd ask you out on a date
he thinks you're about to reject him because you're just standing there in silence
"Y-You don't- We don't have to go-"
"No! Wait! I do wanna go out with you!"
the rest of the walk home is really awkward, but there's a sweet smile on y'alls faces
when the day finally comes, Asahi picks you up from your house and you're 🥺
he's wearing a cute pair of jeans with a wooly sweater over a white button up, and converse
and you're like,,, omg, did i underdress?? i need to look as cute as that??? and you look like you're about to go back inside and change, but he stops you halfway and tells you that you look cute
last minute he pulls out a handful of flowers, and you're about to cry because he's so damn cute, but then he apologizes bc lowkey they're kinda crushed
but its okay
you put them inside and y'all start leaving
y'all chat about whatever and you walk close to him, and you hold onto his arm and lean against him
when it comes to the skating part? y'all are dying.
you both cling to the walls until you finally find the confidence to skate, and you're FERAL. You're zooming around, and Asahi is just watching you with big eyes and a blush
you try your best to pull him off the wall, and skate with you, and he was terrified! man almost peed his pants! but eventually you peel him off and he's SHAKING
this tall beefy man that could snap you in half, is leaning on you and holding onto you for dear life, and you're the only thing between him and the floor
it takes him a hot minute before he's finally able to stand without busting his ass, or shaking, so you take his hand and y'all are just vibing
when the couple song comes on? He's heading towards the exit and you tug him BACK into the rink, and you're like :) "let's skate!!"
he almost passes out
he never would've thought you'd want to skate with him during a couple turn 🥺
he holds your hand real tight, and you interlace your fingers with him. and it's just really nice
Asahi leans against you again but it's not as heavy, it's a good weight that you wanna feel all night long
y'all decide to split a pizza and an icee, and you're just hanging out at your table and you're just sitting close and 🥺🥺🥺
his face is close to yours when you talk, and you're hugging his arm and you just lay your head on his shoulder
im so fuckin soft
eventually, you get really tired and it's time to go home
Asahi takes you home and nervously takes your hand before you go in, and he kisses your knuckles and wishes you goodnight
the second you're inside? you're dying
Asahi is also dying
Tumblr media
IWAIZUMI HAJIME
you and Iwa are probably already pretty close, and you both knew how you felt, but neither one of you knew how to approach the situation
bc no cap?
Iwa was lowkey waiting for YOU to say something
while you were waiting for IWA to say something
and the whole team is sick and tired of it. Especially Oikawa
He just wants to see his two favorite people get together!!!
So he urged Iwa to say something after one of their matches
and thats when you both decide to finally make plans for a date, and you both suggested going bowling
and y'all just kinda looked at each other
and laughed really fuckin hard
You both decide to just meet up there since it would be easier for the both of you
he looks rlly cute in his usual attire of just a good pair of jeans, hoodie, and a jacket above it
and you're like. eyein that jacket. you want it by the end of the night
so you two go in, get your shoes, and start heading down to the lanes
on god, you're nervous. you're scared of your fingers getting stuck in the balls
you tell Iwa and he laughs at you, telling you that it won't happen if you're careful
you kinda eye him like uhmmm if you say so????
but you're still careful
y'all decide to name each other
Iwa is a gentleman, so he makes your nickname 'Sunshine :)'
sadly tho, you decide to be a lil shit, and his nickname is 'Oikawa's whore'
he punches your arm and you're in tears from how hard you're laughing
y'all decide to place a bet at the start since you wanted to add some spice to the date
you make a bet that if iwa wins, you're paying for the food, and if you win, he pays for the food
eventually you start playing and he's way ahead of you, and you're hitting his back jealous that he's winning
iwa is laughing in your face and he reaches for another ball. you have a feeling that this is gonna be the ball that makes you lose
you just watch in horror as he lifts the ball
he's preparing to throw it...
and!
he's sent forward, collapsing onto the ground with a double heavy thud
you blink.
and then you LAUGH REALLY FUCKIN HARD
Karma is a bitch! Iwa's fingers got stuck in the ball, and he's just laying there dumbfounded, and you're laughing
you have to help him up eventually, and you're trying so hard not to cry/shout in laughter. He's all red, but you help his fingers out and y'all sit down
you look over his hand and you're making sure his fingers aren't broken or anything
iwa just watches your tiny lil hand in his, and his heart is racing SO FAST
it isn't until you kiss his fingertips and tell him that you're gonna go get ice, that this man explodes
he takes your wrist and pulls you down so he can kiss your nose and he thanks you with a tiny mumble
you lowkey die on the spot and stagger away to get his ice, and when you come back there's a bit more pep in your step
you come back and his fingers seem okay, so you just decide maybe it's a good time to start going back home
the walk back is full of laughter and him eventually throwing an arm around your shoulder
you lean into his side and you hold his hand
when he drops you off the two of you just hang out in your porch
and he eventually leans down to kiss you 🥺 and he whispers good night against your lips
he waves you farewell, and you do too
and you know damn well you wanna go on another date with this man
Tumblr media
TENDOU SATORI
on god I struggled to think of a date idea for Tendou
bc I was given SOOOOO MANY GOOD DATE IDEAS FOR THIS FUCKER
Tendou decided to ask you out of the blue if you wanted to go to the zoo with him
you were kinda shocked to see that Tendou wanted to go somewhere with YOU of all people
because no cap, you thought u were pretty Lame, and not cool enough to hang out with him, but. 😳 um. you said yes! let's go to the zoo!!!
but you really didn't know if it was a date or not, because he didn't say it, but in your head its a date
you're a lil nervous about going to the zoo with him because you haven't hung around with him one on one
Leon, Semi, and even Toshi, were always with y'all when you two would hang out
so having alone time with him is KINDAAAA intimidating
but when he pulls up to your house so excited to take you out 🥺 all of your anxieties are GONE!!!!!
he does not HESITATE to take your hand. He holds your tiny lil hand in his much bigger one, and he just chats about whatever comes to mind
when y'all are on the train, he sits across from you just so he can watch you stare out the window and admire you AND the view outside
he chose a pretty good day to take you out. the sun was bright and warm, and you were wearing the cutest dress so he knew today was going to be pretty good
the second you get to the zoo he makes sure to buy tickets to ride the train around the zoo, and even access to the carousel
you're about to WWE bodyslam him to the ground for buying you your ticket!! like motherfucker I have the money!!!!!!
you're so close to beating the shit out of him, but he slips the access bracelet around your wrist and slips his fingers through yours and he's like
🥰🥰🥰🥰!!!
anger? gone.
serotonin? here.
your love for him? massive.
hotel? trivago.
you decide to get a map of the zoo so you two know where you're going, and you end up navigating the both of you around
Tendou is going feral over all the animals, and he tugs on you gently to point at whatever animal is doing something he finds exciting
He even goes as far as to pick you up if you can't see a certain animal because they're positioned somewhere high
when it comes to finally going on the small ass train, y'alls legs are basically twisted with eachother and your hip is pressed against his in such an uncomfortable position
its a tight fit!!! im pretty sure your leg is falling asleep
but you can't help but giggle and laugh when Tendou leans over you to see the animals, cheek pressed against yours since you turned your head to look too
ugh. fucker takes this chance to kiss your cheek and nose it, and when you go all red he laughs at you
when you go see the penguins he holds you really close to his side, and hugs you from behind to keep you warm
but also so he can see the penguins better. the penguin house was lowkey full
you have to hold him back from touching most animals that seemed close enough to be touched
y'all get a pretzel and split that shit, but then you're both screaming when a bird swoops down to steal it right from your hands
just as you're about to get on the carousel, there's a distant rumble of thunder and you both stop like ????? brother what??? the sun was OUT
the zoo announces that they would be closing soon due to the rain, and they urge the members to start heading to their cars or whatever other method of transportation
you just look at Tendou like 👁_____👁 wut da hell we gon do...... now?
Tendou looks back at you like queen don't ask me. i didnt think we'd get this far on god
you both decide to just start leaving so you don't get caught in the rain
but wow, what do you know, it starts raining as you walk to the train station
and you BOOK IT
you're screeching as the rain just hits you at full force, and you're holding onto Tendou's arm for dear life, and he's laughing so hard and just stops
you're like ??? IT'S RAINING???? WE GOTTA BLAST BITCH
but listen. This dude is vibing now. He just had such a good day with you, and the rain feels so nice on his hot skin, and he's never felt so much at once
and you kinda just stop and admire him for a bit. So you stand under the rain with him before it gets to be too much, and you take his hand gently and start walking to the station
y'all just hang under the tin roof the station provides
you're both soaked, but sit close to one another to share heat bc y'all kinda stupid for tryin to act out a hallmark movie scene
but hey
at least y'all had fun, right?

Chapter 3
He feels odd walking down the familiar hallway towards the locker room in the PPG Paint Arena. Everything looks as it should be and yet, it feels somewhat difference. He has just finished a brief chat with Sully in his office, relaying the good news after his follow-up check-up with the team doctor. As expected, Dr Vyas has cleared him to play in game five but not before he is reminded to keep a look out for any more symptoms. He has decided not to enclose his issue with his messed-up memory, and it is arguably the most conflicted he has ever felt. It feels a lot like a betrayal of trust to the management, but with the playoff on the line, too much is at risk.
On the drive from their house to the rink, he has some time to think about the matter on hand and he has decided not to let anyone know other than himself and Geno. He is still shaken about it for sure, but years of practice has allowed him to compartmentalise his fear and do what needs to be done. And what he needs is for this to not interfere with his chance to go for the Stanley Cup with his team.
It took him more than half an hour in the staffs' parking lot to convince Geno. Geno has looked so offended when he has first suggested to keep it a secret. Geno was absolutely appalled and almost recruited Brisson to talk some sense into him until he begs Geno not to. He talked to Geno with as much sincerity as he could muster, reasoning with Geno that there would not be a quick fix to his condition. What if Dr. Vyas decided to pull him out for the rest of the playoff? What good will that do to the team?
And Geno had been so angry that he said to hell with the playoff because everything else pales in comparison to Sidney's health. Sidney would have been really touched by that, that Geno is genuinely scared for his sake. If only he wasn't a selfish bastard.
He pried further into Geno's weakness and used it to his advantage. He pleaded Geno to understand his desire to keep playing, telling him how much it would mean for him if he could raise the cup over his head again, how happy it would make him if they could kiss the cup again and bring it home together. And that if his memory never comes back, then at least he could have this, and they could build new ones together. It was a cheap shot, borderline manipulative to be taking advantage of Geno's kindness like that, but he was desperate, and it did get him what he wanted. Geno's reluctance was torn down bits by bits, and finally crumbled down when Sidney promised to come clean right away when he feels any worse.
So, as of right now, the secret is safe.
In a moment of honesty, he is willing to admit that he has never been as shaken as he has. He is somehow thrust in the center on an entirely different life that he knows nothing of. He has a husband and a beautiful, doting 3-year old daughter. Sofya, the child who is rightfully theirs through surrogacy. He is still not done digesting the fact that his own sister has volunteered to donate her egg and carry the child to term. It feels all too weird at first, but when he sees the picture of his—their daughter—on Geno's phone, he has never been more thankful. Dressed in tiny hockey gears, bright smile on her face, and clutching a giant penguin plushie in her tiny arms, she is just a ball of sunshine that makes him want to weep. A little bit of Geno and a little bit of him, she is just the perfect little miracle that melts his heart through and through.
And then he wonders to himself, how could I have forgotten my own child, as sweet and as beautiful as her? And all that has accomplished is making him dispose of any doubt he has for keeping his condition under wraps. This whole thing about not remembering is messing with him quite a lot. He can't seem to shake off the gnawing feelings his guts. It grows stronger with more stones being turned, and he can't ignore that something is disproportionately wrong with him. He thinks that it is his body trying to tell him something, that maybe his time as a hockey player is dated. That thought leaves him petrified and that further pushes him to make the most out of whatever time he still has.
He doesn't know what to expect when he pushes the door into the locker room. It smells just as it should be right after every practice session and just as loud too, maybe even louder. The picture of twenty over something men in all states of undress is a comfortable norm to him and for brief moment, he feels at home for the first time since he woke up. He doesn't know why but he comes in, prepared to feel somewhat out of place, but the warm greetings and lame chirps from his teammates give him a sense of familiarity he didn't know he craves until now. It calms him.
Geno is already out of his gear—thankfully with his undershirt still on—when he makes a beeline over to Sidney. He ducks down to give Sidney a chaste kiss on the mouth and hears some of the guys in the room hollering at them to get a room or something along that line and Geno chirping back. He doesn't know what to make of that little display of affection, nor he has the time to, because his mind is still reeling with it as he is being escorted back to Geno's stall. It isn't much, just a brief touching of lips on lips but it is enough to keep him stunned for a bit. The guys don't seem to bat an eye to see their captain and their alternate kiss, which tells him that it may be something of a frequent occurance.
Oh, yes. Of course it does. He just remembered that he and Geno have been married for five fucking years. They are practically one of the old married couples now.
"Sid, talk with Sully okay?" Geno asks and he almost can't hear it when the younger guys throw a couple more dirty chirps their way that comprises of their sex life. Sidney blushes and nods at Geno as a respond before they are once again interrupted, this time by Cully who comes by and gives his back a couple of friendly pats.
"Hey, babe. Good to have you back in one piece. You scared the hell out of a lot of us when you stayed down on the ice, especially your protective Russian bear over here."
"It's true, I can attest to that." Chimes Phil who looks like he has just came out of the shower judging by how his hair matted on his forehead. "You know, this guy here looked about to hurl when you went down and it took three of us to physically stop him from going over to make Niskanen pay."
Sidney chuckles when Geno grumbles disapprovingly at the two babble mouths and to his surprise, he finds Grumpy Geno kind of adorable. "Well, it's really just bad luck that he got me that way. It's just how it is, right? I don't think it was on purpose or anything. It's just ill-timed, is all. I think he left me several texts, probably apologising, but I haven't check them out yet, so."
"Ill-timed my ass! More like perfectly timed to me, man. If he hits any harder, who knows if it's gonna end it for you right there and then, huh? I don't know about you guys, man, but Flower definitely agrees with me, right Flower?"
"Huh?" Flower looks up from his lap where his helmet is on, and takes a few moments looking back and forth between Kuni and Sidney to catch on to what is being asked of him. He tosses a roll of tape onto the bench and smooths his long fringe away from his eyes. "Oh, yeah. For sure, man. Sid, so glad you're okay. What Nisky did was so not cool and I'm gonna make sure he knows that we're very upset with him."
Sidney frowns because Flower is usually not much of an instigator but he must say, he is curious to see what Flower would do to show his dissatisfaction. "Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it. I'm sorry for making you guys worry about me. But hey—it's game four. You guys are gonna kill it tonight, eh?"
"Hell yeah, baby!"
"You bet your gigantic ass we will!"
"We're gonna take this game for you, man!"
"For Sid!"
"Watch and learn, boys. I'm gonna make Ovi cry like a baby tonight."
To say that Sidney is touched by the support from his teammates is an understatement, especially when Horny make his way over without a word and gives him a tight, bone-crushing hug. It lasts longer than any ordinary locker room hugs should be, and probably longer than Geno has liked because it has him practically prying Horny's arms away to end it. When they part, Sidney thinks he caught a glimpse of Horny's watery eyes before he heads out of the locker room. At that moment, he thinks himself as the most privileged guy to be surrounded by these group of good people and he is grateful.
He stays in the room while he waits for Geno to come back. Geno is with Dana in the equipment room, sorting out some issue Geno has on his pair of new skates. Some of the rookies come to him and they talk for a bit, mostly asking how he is doing and talking about how to improve their plays. Shearsy—who is also out for concussion—sits quietly beside him and listens when he comments about Jake's wrist shots.
It is nice to be having these talks with the boys. It makes him feel like he is contributing something to the team, as much as it distracts him from searching for answers that never seem to be there. For what it is worth, apart from being called Mrs Malkin every five minutes or so—all in good fun, of course—the team is still more or less the same. They are still the same driven group and he wants nothing more than to help them achieve their best game, regardless if he is playing or not.
Optimistically, everything will return to normal once he regains his lost memories. But realistically, the brain is quite a fickle thing and God knows what will happen to him in the near future, if his health will deteriorate drastically at some point. Whichever way his health leads him to, he wants to be able to look himself in the mirror and says that he has done everything he can to help his team be the better team.
"Okay, rookies. Time's up. I'm take husband back now."
"Come on, Geno. Don't hog Sid all to yourself, man."
"I'm hog because I'm put ring on it. Now fuck off, Olli."
Geno squeezes himself into the space between Olli and Sidney and pushes Olli's blonde head away. Olli pushes back playfully and it makes Geno loses his balance a little, causing him to land onto Sidney's lap. Sidney catches a lapful of Geno and his hands flies up to Geno's waist on instinct, just as Geno wraps his arms around Sidney's shoulders. He has to bite back a moan when Geno moves to sits himself more comfortable and—probably not deliberately—grinding onto his crotch. He can't help the blush that rises when the rookies give them some horrified scandalous looks.
"Oh, come on. Really? Stop with the foreplay, dude. You know we can't unsee this, right?"
"Don't be baby. You see worse." Geno snarks at Jake as he make a show to tease the watchful eyes around them by tracing his hand slowly down the line of Sidney's spine. Sidney can't help the shiver that wrecks through his body and hides his profile behind of Geno, shielding his blush that is unmistakably colouring his cheeks.
"Ugh, don't remind me. I'm still trying to bleach that image of your naked ass out of my brain."
"Hey, is good ass." Geno counters and defends his ass further when the rookies shakes their head in disbelief. "You not believe me? Wait, I'm show—"
"Yeah, okay. I think we're just gonna go now and leave you two to it. And Sidney, try not to drain too much out of Geno, okay? We kinda need him tonight? Alright. Good talk, team. Dismiss!"
It is amusing to see how fast the rookies can disperse at the threat of seeing Geno's ass. Just in a few minutes time, Sidney finds himself alone with Geno in the room, with Geno still perched comfortably on his lap. He is in no hurry to get Geno off, and he will never admit it to Geno, but he is starting to lose feelings in his legs.
"Sorry for long wait. I'm make sure Dana do job."
Sidney glances up and stunned to have Geno's face just inches away from his. "It's fine, G. New skates, I know how it is."
"Yes. Dana say Sid worse than me."
Sidney shoves him away with a firm push and laughs a little guiltily when Geno lands on the carpeted floor with a thud.
"Hey, why Sid push me? What I'm say?" Geno asks as Sidney straightens his suit and heading for the door.
"Yeah, keep playing dumb, Geno. Come on, I'm hungry. Hurry up or I'm leaving without you." He shouts over his shoulder just as the door closes, and hears Geno chuckling lightly on the other side of the door.

Hi! In your opinion what is the difference on tecnical side between tessa/scott and davis/white? I know that before the comeback they were equal in terms of victories. Their styles are pretty opposite and this is clear, but since i'm new fan of this sport i'd like to know more tecnical aspects about this rivalry. Also which is the strongest rivals between d/w and p/c? (sorry for the poor grammar, english isn't my first l
Hi anon!
First of all, I am sooooooo sorry for taking so long to get back to you on this, I don’t really have an excuse other than laziness, and for that I cannot apologize enough. Secondly, your grammar is so much better than mine is most of the rime, so there is absolutely no need to be apologizing! Finally, you ask an excellent question, so I guess we should get into it! (as always, I am no expert, so this is all based on my own observations etc. and could be, and most likely am, very wrong about everything)…
So I guess the difference between Tessa and Scott and Meryl and Charlie at least really comes down to the country they started out in. Because they trained with the same coaches for so long (and up until both of their retirements / pseudo-retirements), the actual differences in the technical aspects style of their programs are pretty subtle. However, there are actually some pretty big differences in the skating styles of skaters who learned basic skills in Canada and those who did so in America (this is easier to see in disciplines like synchro and ice dance where the majority of he programs aren’t made up of jumps and spins).
I apologize in advance for any of this being super confusing, because it’s a little hard to explain but I will definitely try my best. The main thing that it comes down to for the difference between these two styles is knee bend. So the Canadian style tends to have a somewhat softer up-and-down knee bend. Between each new step (strokes, different portions of crossovers, etc.), skaters will straighten their knees ever so slightly which creates this rising and falling motion (think breathing but through your knees… I don’t know… that probably doesn’t make sense…). The American style, meanwhile, tends to be a lot more uniform in motion, staying down in the knees rather than lilting up and down. In addition, the American style often tends to include large, sharp movements of the extremities, while the Canadian style often focuses on a strong core and being able to move the limbs outward from that base. (This last difference can be seen particularly well in the juxtaposition between dw and vm, particularly post-comeback vm.) Neither one of these styles is necessarily better than the other, they’re just different ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Building off of this, a really interesting comparison would be between Sochi era Tessa and Scott, Sochi era Meryl and Charlie, and post-comeback Tessa and Scott. So my main thing about this comparison, would I guess go under skating skills if we’re looking at the component score; and this “thing”, as I guess I’m calling it, is the neatness of the feet. Foot placement is a HUGE thing in ice dance (or at least used to be), especially when you’re coming up through the ranks and testing your compulsory dances. For example, there are very specific places on one boot, where the other skate is supposed to be placed when doing certain steps like mohawks or choctaws. Furthermore, the feet are generally a lot tighter or closer together when performing steps in ice dance than in other disciplines. Between Sochi era Meryl and Charlie, and post-comeback Tessa and Scott, neatness of feet is one area of skating in which I personally saw a huge difference. While dw, have a tendency to wide-step (feet not super close together), vm have insanely neat feet, with each step they do placed extremely deliberately.
Another major difference between the two, comes down to lifts. Meryl is tiny. Tessa is small of course, but Meryl is really something else. As a result of this, Meryl and Charlie tend to have a lot more acrobatic lifts; lifts that you might see in pairs if only Charlie would straighten his arms, where Meryl is in some sort of difficult position that exhibits her flexibility and Charlie is supporting her fully. Whereas Tessa and Scott tend to have lifts that require just as much strength from Tessa as they do from Scott.
When it comes to edge quality and actual skating skills, however, I think dw and vm are very well matched, which I think is part of the reason why dw were able to remain vm’s top competition for so many years.
As you may have guessed, my opinion is that dw were a lot stronger competition for vm than pc were. Now, I’m going to be totally honest here, I don’t think pc suck. I actually do think they’re a very good ice dance team, despite wrongly being constantly scored at the same level technically as vm. My main issue when it comes to them, however, is consistency. Although it’s not like they screw up elements majorly from competition to competition, throughout each of their programs they often have a couple extensions where their (well… Gabi) knees aren’t totally straight, or an edge that isn’t quite as deep as it could be. It’s almost like these basic skills aren’t as engrained into their brains as they could be, and thus if they come to a difficult part of the program, they maybe let their basic skills lapse a little bit. From other parts of their programs, however, it is clear that they are capable of hitting these edges or extensions, yet at this point in their career, it doesn’t seem to me that they are leaving it all out on the ice (even if their scores show differently) as Tessa and Scott and Meryl and Charlie were at the end of their careers. ( I don’t know if this is intentional laziness or just because they need a bit more time to practice their skills… but I’m not really going to dwell on that)
So to answer your questions in a much more concise way, anon… There isn’t a huge technical difference between Tessa and Scott and Meryl and Charlie. Both have excellent skills, however, I definitely do think that post-comeback Tessa and Scott would have without a doubt out-skated Meryl and Charlie simply due to the exactness(…?) and smoothness of their skating. That being said, you are right in that the main difference I see between the two teams is stylistic, rather than on technicalities (huge props to you for noticing that, by the way, you say you’re a new fan, but wow… good eyes). If it wasn’t clear already, I definitely think that Meryl and Charlie were not only stronger, but also more longstanding, rivals to Tessa and Scott than Gabi and Guillaume were (but also, I’m American and may or may not be a former dw stan so I’m sort of biased…).
Thank you so much for your excellent questions anon! I apologize for writing an extremely boring and incredibly long and nonsensical response… yikes… ok time to shut up. Have a lovely day :)

I'm sorry you have to deal with all of the flak you're getting from people about Zhenya and Shoma. I don't understand why people have to hate on others who provide fair criticism about their favourite skaters... But anyway, I hope that it isn't getting to you too much, and that you're doing OK. As for my question, How would you rate Yuzu's jumps in order of favourite to least favourite, or most consistent to least consistent? And, other than Hanyu, who is your favourite skater in the mens field?
Oh, an ask to which I can wholeheartedly shamelessly stan Yuzu and gif-spam people, I love it, thank you!
Quick answer first: on the current circuit, my 2nd favorite after His Majesty is Patrick Chan aka PChiddy of Chanada.
Now for the long part: among His Majesty’s majestic jumps, his most consistent and my most favorite, by a mile, is the triple Axel. According to skateDB, his success rate on the 3A in competition up until end of last season is 92.3% and that is an insane number, utterly out of this world when you consider all the crazy entries and exits he’s been doing with it. I mean, in order to find a triple Axel he entered on a long-ish edge hold, you’d have to go all the way back to his early Junior days.
Incidentally, it was this one jump at this one event (Cup of China 2011) that got me hooked on the Yuzuru Hanyu, and the rest, as they say, is history :)

By the way, @ciindyho: I got your ask on Yuzu’s 3A entries and I swear I’m not ignoring you. I’m, err, collecting materials for that post. It’s a rather lengthy process because I keep running into intense argument with people regarding which entry is harder than which…
In his official quad repertoire, the quad toe loop is by far the most consistent, at 70.4% historical success rate, and I think the entire last season he only missed it once (SCAC). Over the years Yuzu has become so comfortable with the 4T that it has become his go-to emergency quad when he needed a BV boost, and for 2017-2018, he’s incorporating two variations of the 4T combos into his layout: the 4T+Rippon 3T for the SP and 4T+1Lo+3S for the FS. A characteristic which I’ve always appreciated about his quad toe (and all of his toe jumps, really) is how light and quick his toe tap is, to the point that his toe loop can easily be mistaken for a Salchow if you don’t pay enough attention to how he uses his left foot:

The quad loop, officially debuted in competition just last season, is turning out to be a fine weapon as well, at 66.7% success rate. On a personal level, that jump is my most favorite quad of his, especially when he does it out of this very distinctive cross roll:
Tumblr media
I’ve remarked on this a couple of times before: Yuzu has quite an unusual approach to the loop, in that he’d take off for that jump on a left back outside edge instead of inside as is common. In theory, that’d increase the level of difficulty, since that quirk makes his loop a counter-rotated jump, similar to the Lutz. The fact that Yuzu finds it more comfortable to jump the loop that way is to me a pretty nice indicator of his love for all things extra, complex, and contradictory.
Then there’s the troubled child, the quad Salchow. That jump has been problematic ever since he first attempted it in competition and last season was clearly the cause of much anxiety. My personal theory is that he loves it because it’s an edge jump but hates it because it takes off from an inside edge, and so we ended up with that dramatic roller-coaster of the Yuzu x Quad Sal love affair. When he does land it though, it’s a thing of absolute beauty: breathtaking speed on both entry and exit, lightning quick snap into a perfect air position and an ideal axis, and of course there’s the striking height and distance he achieves in all his quads:
Tumblr media
Among his non-Axel triples, my favorite is the triple Lutz. It’s also the triple that Yuzu is most confident in, as proven by the fact that it has been his last jumping pass in the free skate for the past 5 seasons. Yuzu’s Lutz technique is simply immaculate: short entry, deep outside edge, clean toe tap. Plus, because it’s the final jump, he almost never fails to top it up with some dramatic exit, built to impress.
Now you might’ve heard here or there that the Lutz is not Yuzu’s strong jump, but that is just objectively untrue. He might appear to have some trouble landing the 3Lz, but it has nothing to do with imperfect technique. The perpetrator is and has always been the quad Lutz. Practicing that quad has more or less messed up his timing on its triple version, as in he would time and again take off for his 3Lz as if it’s a quad: greater height, faster snap. If he manages to maintain his focus, he would counter this effect by either delaying his rotation a tiny bit or unfold his air position sooner for the landing, or both, which essentially would result in his triple Lutz having this incredible aesthetically pleasing visual effect which I dub the self-made slow motion:
Tumblr media
(If he doesn’t have his full focus, most often for lack of stamina, the timing mess would make him either pop the jump or fall on his butt, in which case he’d usually follow it up with a cheeky little smile as he picks himself up, and that’s adorable, but beside the point)
Then we have the triple flip, which also used to be a troubled child but has, for a long time now, outgrown its troublemaker phase and matured into this stunning beauty:
Tumblr media
The issue with the triple flip used to be his tendency to switch to an outside edge before takeoff (he loves that takeoff edge a bit too much for his own good, really). Since the 2014-2015 season though, his team has figured out the trick to help him stay on the inside edge, namely, to have him entered it using that tricky three-turn sequence as shown above, which basically serves to distract him from the takeoff: turn + edge - turn + edge - turn + edge - jump - oops 3F is already over, let’s move on. His flips now are done on a proper inside edge, and, thanks to that entry, always seem to materialize out of thin air. It probably won’t ever be his favorite though, so on balance of probability, expecting a quad Axel from him is way more realistic than a quad flip.
That about covers the essence of his jump portfolio, since he’s obviously no longer able to do a solo 3T or 3S and likely even 3Lo.
As a bonus, among his combos, I’d like to make a special shout-out to these jumps which I have a borderline unhealthy obsession with: his +2T with Rippon variation. The varied air position in these is always done with such elegance and grace, don’t you think?
