Sometimes I think about the fact that Candice Patton’s casting as Iris West literally opened up so many doors for POC to play roles that were always seen as white in adaptations, and the amount of horrific racism she had to endure because she was simply a black woman who’d been hired to play a role that was traditionally played by white women.
But now we’re living in an era where MJ from Spiderman is black, Annabeth Chase is black, Selina Kyle is black, Ariel is Black, ANOTHER ONSCREEN VERSION OF IRIS WEST IS BLACK.
And more than that we’re getting South Asian women and black men as desirable love interests, as leading women and men in comedies and dramas.
All of these adaptations of books and graphic novels and comics which didn’t have POC to begin with are slowly starting to incorporate them into their casting decisions and we’re seeing a world where people of color—especially women of color—can now see themselves in media that has remained white for so long, I just—I get really emotional thinking about it.

Hello! It’s three days until a solar eclipse. Would Agua Caliente Pat and Achilles have plans?
The eclipse path of totality is nowhere near California, and I doubt they'd have much interest in traveling to Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, southern Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, or western New York in early April (or ever). West Coast people can be so attached to their precious coast.
However, the national park service does show which parks will be in the path of totality, and I guess I could see Patroclus using this as an excuse to visit one he hasn't seen before. The the Ozark riverway would be a good one, except it's not open yet. And if they did visit, it would be all mud. And ugly. So... scratch that. Why would they ever leave California? Do they even have smoothies in Missouri?
I think the better plan would be to wait for the eclipse in Spain in August 2026.

Re: ebooks and libraries, you can buy membership to libraries you're not a part of! I just moved and my current community is very poorly funded and remote, so I signed up for Fairfax county in VA and it's like $30 for a year or something and has so many more titles. I think I have like four different library accounts now and it's all cheaper than buying the books themselves lmao
thanks for the suggestion but the only province that has a wider range is the western cape system, but as far as i can tell you have to go in person to the library you want a membership with!
(tbh this was less of a "how do i, specifically, access a better variety of books" and more of a "it's fucked up that books are becoming less and less accessible here")

It will always be funny to me that when snowbarry shippers where trying to act like Caitlin was practically Iris they did this by painting Caitlin as someone who was a wallflower who just agreed with whatever Barry said or did and compared her to sliver age Iris.
Now I wouldn't describe any version of Iris as a wallflower who just went along with whatever Barry but using a version of Iris who was always chastising Barry and was ready to fight any one who looked at her wrong way is just so funny to me.

I never really realized how long everyone’s hair technically is... I wondered what they’d look like after they got caught in the rain.

I still can’t believe that the final showdown where everyone murders each other in cold blood happens in a temple devoted to Guanyin. You know, Guanyin, the bodhisattva of mercy??? That Guanyin?
That big-ass statue just sitting there watching it all go down like “Seriously? Right in front of my salad offerings?”

I keep posting this because it's important people see the tricks the US Empire will pull in order to ensure the occupation of Palestine doesn't end.
When Netanyahu is removed and scapegoated for the crimes Israel has committed, his more moderate replacement will go on a media tour in order to repair Israel's image in the West and a diplomatic tour in order to restore diplomatic relations with the countries that have recalled their ambassadors or cut diplomatic ties entirely. The genocide we're witnessing will be treated like a mild mistake that will never happen again (that Palestinians have brought on themselves). More money will be allocated to Zionist groups in the West to ensure that the public doesn't turn on Israel again.
Meanwhile, Palestinians will continue to get imprisoned, tortured and killed, only now without the world paying attention (just like what happened after the 2021 war). It's our duty as people who are pro Palestine to ensure that this fails. We need to make sure they don't sweep the genocide under a rug. We need to make that Western politicians and journalists don't clean the blood off their hands in the same way we've spent 45 days countering Israeli propaganda

Genuinely, what is the point of setting the Fallout show on the west coast if it was just going to invalidate everything that happened in the West Coast Trilogy. Shady Sands has fallen, the NCR is a memory, New Vegas is a crater in the ground. The New California Republic, Caesar's Legion, The Enclave, Mr. House, all brushed to the side for a wasteland with no semblance of human society beyond shanty-towns; with no semblance of the legitimate cities of Fallouts 2 and New Vegas. All to what end? To allow the Brotherhood of Steel to make an undeserved comeback?
If anything, I think the series should be the final nail in the coffin that Bethesda fundamentally misunderstands Fallout. In a franchise whose very nature is defined by the Atom Bomb and how it was used as a means to an end by a corrupt Capitalist system; how humanity rose from the ashes of a broken world with the dream of building something better; how our only hope for the future is to learn from our past mistakes and create a world where they can never be made again; Bethesda seems determined to keep us stuck in the past. That we should never advance past the ideals of the nation that led us to this nuclear landscape in the first place, that we should never try to make something new atop the ashes of what came before. That we should just forever stay rats scurrying in the wastes, amongst the shattered visage of Ozymandias and the fruits of his labor, looking up to what he left behind as an example of the kind of existence we should strive to create. Very telling indeed.

- Sephardi Jew here. Thank you for your posts concerning Palestinian Jews. Jewish people who are ethnically North African/West Asian are consistently left out of these conversations. Make no mistake - the word "Mizrahi" was invented by Israel to literally strip Palestinian Jews of their identities during the beginning of the occupation. The message was to either assimilate with the Ashkenazi, or die as a Palestinian. The entire reason people struggle to find resources about the history of Palestinian Jews is because it has been purposefully obscured by the occupation. While I am not Palestinian, (that I know of, the other funny thing, diaspora members of the Sephari community often have trouble pinning down our exact heritage, I'll let you guess why) my ethnic background is Moroccan, Libyan, Maltese. Jews from the Iberian Peninsula and Mediterranean Sea have always been here, will continue to be here. You don't have to answer this publicly or anything, btw, I just really try to reach out to people who elevate the voices of the Jewish people from this area of the world. It profoundly touches my heart.
of course, no need to thank me. an aspect of the occupation is a lot of palestinian jews have been erased from palestinian history which is pretty heartbreaking as someone who makes it their lifegoal to preserve palestinian cultural heritage and spread it to people.
it is really difficult finding resources on jewish history in SWANA before it was touched by the occupation despite it being a fundamental part of swana history.... and part of that is from european colonialism and the other part of it is collaboration with european colonialists and swana governments.
if anyone has sources on swana jewish history (i know of hadar cohen and avi shlaim rn), please do let me know so i can look into it!!
