Opening Night

Waiting in the wings for her bow, Hazel had to marvel at how spectacularly well the show had gone. The newer girls had started to get the hang of things, and her choreography showed off the best of her abilities. She followed the line of similarly clad figures out onto stage, the bright lights obscuring her view of the people in the audience. She knew Vera was out there somewhere, as they had plans for later that night. Taking her bow, she smiled brightly.

Backstage a few minutes later, she chattered excitedly with the girls she shared a room with, slipping out of her costume and into a comfortable dress. She was unprepared to find Vera waiting outside her door.

"You are the bees knees, Hazel, and that only helped to show that." Vera linked her arm into Hazel's and started pulling her towards the front of the house. "Tonight's going to be a ball."

Making their way into the crowded lobby, Hazel began to search the masses for Theodore. He had said that he would attempt to come to opening night, but she wasn't sure if he had. Spotting him, she tugged on Vera's arm. "Look, there's Theodore, and Anna, I believe," she said, a bit surprised. "Let's join them."

It was Anna who saw the pair first, pointing them out over Theodore's shoulder. "Miss Nash! That was lovely," he said, turning. "I still can't believe that you can remember all of that."

Hazel laughed, noting the glasses of champagne in both of their hands. It seemed like Theodore had already had a few drinks, as he was more casual than usual. "It takes some practice, as I told you before." She then turned to address Anna. "I didn't expect to see you here, Miss Pemberley."

"Theodore told me about your show and invited me to tag along with him. It was wonderful, might I add." 

"Simply divine," Vera chimed in. 

The four talked for a few more minutes before Theodore checked his watch and realized that it was getting late. "We should go, I still have to return Miss Pemberley to her home before it gets too late," he said. They said their farewells before parting ways, Hazel and Vera to catch a cab and Theodore and Anna to their car.

In the cab, Hazel had a short time to relax. It had been a long day, but the night was only just beginning.
