If you're on the fence about getting Scarlet and/or Violet, here's your sign not to. It fucking sucks shit, the quality is so low, it hurts to look at and Nintendo actually refunded my digital purchase.
Bugs aside, here's a list of things that really bothered me in order of the worst things, starting with number 1, what got me to return it
1. Frame rate. From pokemon to background characters, everything drops to 2 frames a second and it absolutely ruined it for me
2. Emptiness. The first real town was roomy and did a really good job of showing cut corners with the lack of anything substantial. Instead of a city full of people it felt like they made a city with everything in it as an after thought.
3. Shops. With very few exceptions, all the shops are walk into a door and a menu pops up, no inside.
4. Graphics. Everything is so low quality, especially compared to the PC. Low jpegs make up every sign, every copy paste texture, it's really bad
Other things that irritated me include but are not limited to: your mount (speed, appearance, really everything), vast majority of NPCs have bland designs, outfits!!!! You only get the choice of 4 and I hate them. My base hair clipped through the default hat.
Just a reminder to those who might not understand, this isn't laziness. This is rushed work and cut corners to maximize profit and pump these games out as fast as possible. I encourage everyone to return their game and hope Nintendo fixes it. Unlikely but not impossible.
Here's a link to the US Nintendo support contact. I started a chat, explained that the game was too full of bugs to enjoy and I wanted a refund, and I received one within 2 days. God damn

Jaime Reyes (+Khaji) Headcanons ↓
(Unless specified these are all based off Jaime from the 2006 issues)
Everything's under the cut to avoid clutter!
He has birthmarks. So many birthmarks. The most noticable ones are; two over his left brow, one under his bottom lip and another on his right eyelid. He has a lot more but their less prominent in comparison. They all come from Bianca who has just as many but they're in less obvious spots.
He has a bad habit of working in the dark because after so many complaints about the light bill Khaji just gives him night vision. Which has the consequence of others finding him working on essays in the pitch dark like a cryptic. His vision doesn't change much besides a slight green tint that the night vision adopts so he rarely notices the difference until someone points it out.
He gives the suit appendage (?) Fist bumps when they do a good job <3
Watched Naruto religiously as a kid and will drop lore bombs unprompted if anyone mentions the show (Paco is a constant victim)
Adjacent to this he also watched Digimon and prefers it to pokemon (this is mostly out of spite because Milagro would hog the TV to watch reruns and he'd miss his shows).
His hair gets longer after graduation. It just happens while he gets busy with college and this new chapter in life. Khaji suggests it give him a haircut but Jaime decides against it and keeps the hair just below the shoulder.
He and Khaji practice the body swap thing a lot more after life calms down. They don't have a system just yet. Khaji helps Jaime with cooking because despite Bianca trying her best, her son is still a clutz in the kitchen. The furthest Khaji has gone is taking control of their limbs to keep Jaime safe from mundane accidents.
He knows how to speak a little Japanese and German thanks to Khajis' help now! He figures the more he knows the better and practices in his free time.
Khaji burns his flannels at one point and sets a rule that Jaime can only wear flannel twice a week. His fashion sense isn't that great yet but he's trying <3
His taste buds have gotten used to bad foods. Only because of Khaji who's demanded the most atrocious combinations of ingredients during emergencies for the energy and he didn't have a choice but to down them.
Khaji clicks with Brenda a concerning amount and they scare Jaime a bit.
When they do both feel comfortable with taking/giving up control of their body, Khaji makes it a habit of tying up their hair in a half-up half-down style. It also has a habit of using eye make up (a habit it gained when it first landed in Egypt). Khaji replicates the products himself, since the prices are outrageous. + Brenda finds out and considers Khaji her make up dealer.
Since Khaji first fused with him–and since Khaji has made some 'adjustments'–Jaime has a tendency to sleep in weird positions. Face down planking with his arms hanging off the sofa, upper torso hung off the bed, twisted like a pretzel so his back muscles stretch. It scares whoever finds him like that the first time.
Jaime gets called mom a lot by any younger heros/vigilante as a joke (some of them mean it). He'd try rebutting them but he catches himself fretting over them and accepts his fate. (Alberto says he's a lot like Bianca in a lot of ways)
He figures out he's bi only after graduating. He doesn't do much with this information though; just collects a bunch of hero crushes over time. Khaji complains about him not getting laid yet and Milagro tries to set him up with the worst people she can find.
That's it for now! A lot of this is word dump based off of different ideas that have been filling my head for a while now. I hope it's coherent enough! More than willing to keep going if asked just hmu <3

AO3 tag game :3
thanks so much for the tag @mvshortcut !!!!! much appreciated, this was a blast to fill out :D
How many works do you have on AO3?
86! Damn, that's more than I remember 🙀 I have been writing pretty fervently since I was pretty young, though, and I transferred all my old fics from fanfiction dot net to AO3, so it's a long stretch of time. All my old wattpad fics are still rotting somewhere though lmaooo I can't even access them anymore bc I forgot my password and I can't reset it bc I used a school email 😔
What's your total AO3 word count?
443,734! When I get to half a million I'm gonna have to throw myself a party. With boba and everything
How many fandoms have you written for, and what are they?
Oof, okay, here we go. A lot of the fandoms I have tagged on AO3 don't really "count" because they're just aggregate tags for the same fandom, so even though AO3 says the number is 48, I'm gonna count the TRUE number as 17. (It got cut down so much because of how many video game series have different games with different fandom tags on AO3, lmao)
Here's the breakdown of the list:
Persona (Mostly Persona 3)
Fire Emblem (Mostly Shadow Dragon and Blazing Sword)
Legend of Zelda
Pokemon
Professor Layton
RWBY
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Earthbound/MOTHER
Red vs. Blue
Voltron Legendary Defender
Naruto
Final Fantasy XV
Harvest Moon
The Mysterious Benedict Society
The Avengers
Animal Crossing
Care Bears (despite having never actually consumed any Care Bears media to my knowledge)
The worst part is that this stupid list would be much, much, MUCH longer if I finished even a quarter of my WIPs 😭 Hell, even just my "Video Games" subfolder in my "Fanfiction" subfolder has more than 17 subfolders in it...
Tumblr media
Y'all don't understand how many random fics my ADHD spares you from ever seeing I have no focus
Top five fics by kudos:
Ash and Emotion (Zelda) - Not surprising, I knew this was my most popular fic. It was for a ZeLink zine full of beautiful work :)
Resemblance (Naruto) - bro I always forget people really liked this one. Literally an unedited drabble I did in an hour for a "pride month drabble challenge" which I immediately abandoned. Trans rights I guess
Always Wanna Play (But You Never Wanna Lose) (Persona 3) - This one isn't surprising either, and I'm very proud of this fic so I'm quite chuffed to see it get so much attention... thanks everyone :')
The Beat of Your Heart (Zelda) - Now this one surprised me a lot. This was just a little piece for ZeLink week... Another unedited one, I literally was writing it on the toilet in church so I could get it out in time 😭
Comfort (Zelda) - Another ZeLink week piece, but I knew this one was popular. Also unedited, lmao. I was writing it on the day of my AP Calc finals and I rushed through the exam so I could have more time to work on the fic 😭 I made some Choices that year
Do you respond to comments?
I try to! But I get very anxious about it and tend to work myself into a tizzy, so I often put it off for later and then forget, haha. Then I'll go and respond to all my comments from the last few months and feel even weirder about it... T_T
What's the fic with the angstiest ending you've ever written?
Oof. That's... a hard one, haha. I've written a couple of fics without happy endings, though I typically don't. At least three fics which end on a canonical character death, for instance. But I'd say the ending which made me the most emo writing was Butter, a Mother 3 fic. It ends with Lucas, who's like 9, recently lost his mother, then lost his twin brother (and thinks it's his fault), and is now being neglected by his father, crawling into bed and crying. So yeah, pretty bleak, lmao... but at least he doesn't die I guess?
Do you write crossovers?
I do, but I haven't posted many yet. I'm not always huge on writing them, but I do think about them a lot. I was working on this one Persona 3 x Fire Emblem Awakening crossover but I lost steam on it, and now there's a really lovely crossover on AO3 with a similar premise that I was SO delighted to come across!!! Hope y'all don't mind me taking a break from linking my own work to shill for this one, hehe
Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?
Unfortunately, yes, about six times, I'd say. Even more unfortunately, most of those times happened earlier on in my fanfic writing career, and I was pretty sensitive to hate back then, so I deleted many of the relevant fics, and some of them I don't even have access to myself anymore.
Not gonna talk about the ones that are still upsetting, but I will talk about the funny examples: on a (since deleted) RWBY fic, I said in the author's note that I "wrote them as platonic, but the fic can be read as WhiteRose", and then I got a glowing comment gushing about how good the story was which ended with "but then you had to ruin it by shitting all over WhiteRose, how about you [long suicide bait]". Third most baffling comment I've ever received.
The two most baffling were on different fics, but both were making the same weird accusation??? One was on a ZeLink fic (actually, on Comfort, my fifth most kudos'ed fic of all time now), and y'know I think I'm just gonna show you the comment in question:
Tumblr media
The other one was on a long-since deleted fic which focused on both a romantic ship, as well as a fatherly relationship between one member of the ship and the other member's father. I guess having a fatherly relationship with your father-in-law makes your boyfriend actually your brother (and therefore you can't date him anymore). IDK man people are crazy. (tbf the commenter in question thought I was setting it up so that he'd get adopted by his boyfriend's parents, which would give them more of a case, but like... that didn't happen in the fic and wasn't going to. they just guessed at a future plot development and got angry about their guess)
Do you write smut?
I do, but I've never posted any. I've posted one fic that was very suggestive, I'd even call it "NSFW" in a sense, but never anything explicit. Maybe I will in the future? We'll see if I can ever finish anything smutty, lmao.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yep, I had Ultimatum, my longest chapter-fic (and by far my most popular fic in the ff.n days) stolen and posted on another site by somebody. I reported it but never checked back up to see if it got taken down.
I also feel that I've had my work plagiarized pretty damn blatantly in another fandom (I was browsing a certain AU tag and read one which contained all the exact events and sometimes word-for-word dialogue from a fic of mine, just very very slightly rewritten) but the poster had no other works and their writing was definitely extremely juvenile, so... I figured they were a dumb kid and just decided not to raise a fuss. Checked back later and they deleted it, hopefully because they realized they shouldn't do that, so I figure there's no need to start shit over it. Honestly, if that person used that experience as a jumping-off point to write their own fics, then I'm glad it happened, imitation being the highest form of flattery and all.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, though I had someone reach out to me on fanfiction dot net a long time ago and ask permission to translate An Unheard Goodbye, which was super exciting! I agreed, but I don't believe they ever got around to it, or if they did, they never posted it. Still very flattering, and I think about that a lot, hehe.
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
HOW COULD I POSSIBLY ANSWER THIS. UM. UM UH. UHHH UM UH I. UM.
I'm.... gonna say Zelda/Link? I haven't written it in FOREVER but it was such a huge part of me coming into my own as a fanfic author, so I have to give it credit for that.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
.......all of them 😭 god I have so many of these damn things. But for the prime example, I'd point to Ultimatum, an old Pokemon fic that I started in middle school. I got all the way to the climax and I feel bad leaving my readers hanging, but... at this point, if I did continue it, I would honestly have to rewrite the whole fic first just to be in line with my current understanding of the characters.
What are your writing strengths?
Y'know, I think I get character voices down extremely well in a way which elevates my dialogue and narration. That's probably the thing I'm most proud of in my own writing, at least.
What are your writing weaknesses?
BREVITY. Or the utter, glaring lack of it. I have also been known to muddy up my writing with an overabundance of A) adverbs, B) unneeded clauses tacked onto perfectly good sentences, and C) em-dashes 😭
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?
I think it's dope as fuck, but I currently can't really accomplish it because I'm monolingual (NOT FOR LONG IF I HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT, I'M COMING FOR YOU, JAPANESE FLUENCY!!!!). I will also say that I don't like when authors will write characters having a story-important conversation in another language, then put the translations in the end notes or something, requiring you to either read the chapter confused or else keep scrolling back down and back up.... I think even that's totally fine to do if what's being said isn't plot-relevant, though.
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Naruto. I hadn't read or watched Naruto btw, I had only read other Naruto fanfics. I have spoken on this topic many times, but it remains hilarious to me. Also, so many of my old Naruto fics are lost to the Wattpad times, but I will take this opportunity to once again share a quote which I recently managed to unearth from my long-lost unsung magnum opus:
Tumblr media
Never ever will I intentionally attain the level of comedy gold that I managed while writing completely dead serious Naruto fanfiction on Wattpad in 2012.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written so far?
See above. How could I ever top that fic.
In all seriousness, this question always makes me sweat, but I think I'm gonna say Oil, a slightly older fic from my EliHec days which I absolutely obsessed over for months before finally managing to finish. And, unlike most of the fics that I obsess over, I think the obsession actually made it come out better rather than worse, haha.
thanks again for the tag!!!! as for me, I'll tag uhh, hm, @wizard-finix @dreamedge @misty-wisp @flyfish1999 and any other AO3 writers who see this!!! (idk how many of you use AO3 and most of the MBS authors I know have probably already been tagged hehe but anybody who wants to should absolutely feel free!!!!!!!)

“marn, i missed sgdq 2022! which runs should i watch?”
hello and welcome back to another rec list curated by me and my very subjective opinions. a couple weeks ago was summer games done quick, an annual speedrunning marathon raising money for doctors without borders and also a great way to get into watching speedrunning. a lot of their content is tailored towards being both clearly explained and fun to watch for an audience outside the speedrun community, so you can jump in with basically no knowledge besides “this person is gonna play a game really fast”. here are my personal highlights that i think you should check out!
kirby and the forgotten land: it’s always great to see a game that’s just been released in the past few months hit gdq!! this was my first time watching a forgotten land run and my takeaways were that: a) this game is beautiful and b) the runner was having a GREAT time sharing it with everyone.
spyro the dragon: spyro is one of those early games that has a lot of weird cool movement tech that is still being discovered to this day, and the fact that it shows up at gdq every couple years with some completely new strats to showcase is awesome, imo.
phasmophobia: if you are staring at this link wondering “how the hell do you speedrun the co-op ghost hunting game that relies entirely on randomization and luck”, just trust me and click it. the ghosts did NOT want to cooperate with these runners at ALL.
pokemon emerald randomizer (evolution chaos co-op): i am not usually a person who has the patience to sit for all 3 hours of a pokemon run, and i figured i would just tune into this one for like half an hour while i got some other stuff done, but i was immediately enraptured. it’s a modded randomizer where your pokemon evolves into something random Every Time it levels up, with 4 runners passing the controller around on every evolution. the game was not kind to these runners. it’s one of the funniest things i’ve ever seen at gdq.
donkey kong country: tropical freeze: spikevegeta’s tropical freeze run from gdqx a few years back is still The speedrun i love showing to people, but this one is an INCREDIBLY clean run that is just a joy to watch. spike is also a GREAT runner/commentator who you’ll notice pops up on a lot of gdq commentary couches, he loves to explain not only what’s going on in the game but little anecdotes and fun facts about the community around the game/speedrun.
banjo-tooie: i love duck and hagginator’s banjo-kazooie race from 2019 and have watched it multiple times since it happened and i am happy to see duck back at gdq running banjo-tooie. :) the community around the b-k games seems really nice and if i had to pick a game to get into running myself this might be in my top 5 choices.
mi scusi: you should watch everything from this early morning silly block, i shotgunned basically all the vods for it and loved them all, but this one was the standout. a speedrunner who woke up way too early in the morning plays a spectacularly broken, floppy physics game that was a student project that is about [checks notes] a guy dealing with the mafia, stealing the world cup, and going to space. if you like this one, watch the rest of the silly block, esp turnip boy commits tax evasion and jimmie johnson’s anything with an engine.
stepmania/noitg doubles showcase: what if dance dance revolution was evil and the only way to defeat it was a 45 minute synchronized dance routine
happy’s humble burger farm: stressed runner makes burgers as fast as he can while janky jumpscare horror game tries to give him the worst rng imaginable. i watched this one kind of on a whim because i like teddyras (the runner) a lot and his commentary is like. laugh-out-loud funny. if you have an hour or less to kill and want to watch one of these vods, this is the one. if you like this, you should check out teddyras’s run of gone golfing, a similar janky horror game set at a minigolf course (sort of).
control: this is an all bosses run and something about hearing the extremely sparse 6 am crowd politely golf clap after every boss fight just took me out. also this game has SO many cool out-of-bounds skips and sequence breaks that are SO fun to watch.
mario 64: m64 is basically a staple game at gdq at this point and because it’s basically the grandfather of speedrunning they often try to dress it up with new challenges like the runner being blindfolded, or the game being randomized, or it being a race. this is not that. this is a guy playing regular vanilla mario 64 very nearly on world record pace, pulling off tricks that have never been successfully completed on the gdq stage before, and casually showing the audience completely new movement tech and clips that have been discovered while the commentators lose their fucking minds in the background. also he never died a single time in this run.
mario maker 2 relay race: two teams of 3 highly skilled mario runners go head to head in a blind relay race of 9 extremely fucking difficult mario maker levels. it’s SO cool to watch them figure out routing and strats in real time, and the level designers shoutcasting the race have some really great insight into the design of the levels themselves.

I got another one for you!! Rank the main villains/misguided antagonists of Pokémon, worst to best!
Oh gosh, this one's going to be a bit tricky.
1 - CYRUS. Team Galactic is such a fucking slog; they aren't even mildly amusing in the same way Team Rocket are, they just get in the way. At the head of this bizarrely hedonistic operation is Cyrus, a lunatic with his head so far up his own ass that he can't hear how fucking boring and self-centered he sounds.
2 - GHETSIS. He's creepy and deranged, certainly, but he's also kind of boring. In my opinion he also got a downgrade in B2W2 when he stopped being this "man behind the throne" kind of character and just became an evil dictator. N's presence is integral to his effectiveness, and once they split up he's not nearly as interesting.
3 - GIOVANNI. Credit where credit is due - Giovanni is the OG Pokemon villain, and he's not half bad either. He's also the only explicit villain that is on a League - Malva might count but I don't know if it was ever confirmed if she had anything to do with Team Flare or if she was just kind of there. Giovanni's also great because, as far as I'm aware, his ultimate goal is largely financial power, which is easier to understand than some other Pokemon villains.
4 - VOLO. Volo is where things start to get interesting in this list. He's a play on a zealous acolyte; he craves Arceus' blessing and he ends up enlisting Giratina's help to tear open a hole in the universe in order for them to meet, but he ultimately fails when you defeat him and Giratina flees. I liked his vaguely unsettling aura and the fact that he was always there when you least expected him to be, and I kind of get his motive to where he wants a reason for any suffering he faced, but ultimately the rest of his character kind of falls flat.
5 - LUSAMINE. I really liked Lusamine when I first fought her - how batshit crazy and obsessed she was; how she was willing to basically disown her own children in order to get what she wanted. In immediate hindsight her whole shpeal kind of petered out for me because I didn't know who Mohn (her long-lost husband) was and thus I had no idea what her motive was. USUM definitely did her a disservice by kinda-sorta redeeming her on-screen instead of leaving her fate up in the air like the original games did.
(The rest of these are all pretty close together in terms of how much I like them, so ranking is a little more approximate from here on out.)
6 - ROSE. SWSH unfortunately suffers from a poor plot anyway, which really doesn't do Rose any favors, but I really enjoy his calm, bussinesslike approach to everything, and how he's genuinely done good things for his community while also doing some questionable ones. I like how it's hinted that both Magnolia and Sonia regard him with hesitancy but no-one really elaborates as to why. I like how when you defeat Eternatus he just kind of... disappears, and his name is scrubbed from the League. I don't think anyone talks about him after that. That may be a plothole and not a deliberate choice, but it makes me want to study him acutely under a microscope.
7 - ARCHIE / MAXIE. (I'm counting these two as a pair because they serve the same purpose within their respective games.) My first villains! This is where my "well-intentioned but dumb" appreciation stems from; these two wanted to aid in the progress of humanity and also the conservation of certain Pokemon, but obviously didn't have any braincells dedicated to the consequences of their actions. It's actually really interesting to see them wholeheartedly regret their actions and realise their colossal mistakes in the moment.
8 - SADA / TURO AI. This villain and overall culmination of the SV story is so fucking terrifying and intimidating that I can't not love it. The plot twist that the Professor had been dead for years before your introduction to them was applause-worthy; the reveal that the AI had more affection, or at least respect, for the current world and the Professor's neglected son was heartbreaking. That was the moment that really shattered the illusion - that maybe, just maybe, Sada/Turo was a good person after all, but nope! They were just a deadbeat, obsessed parent all along.
9 - LYSANDRE. There's something about Lysandre that I find very, very appealing. He and Rose are very similar, and he also shares certain traits and motives with Cyrus of all people, but Lysandre succeeds more due to seemingly being more likable and having more genuine relationships - he at least has a friendship with Sycamore (or so the Professor claims). It's evident that no-one thought the worst of him and just considered him to be passionate about his desire to make the world more "beautiful". He sacrifices himself because he can't bear to live with his mistakes or his inability to accept the world as it is. He cries on-screen. He's a very poetic antagonist and I enjoy him immensely. Also his design is A+ and I love the way he carries himself.

Pokemon Emerald Ralts Only Part 3: Brawly's Round Friend :)
I just think Makuhita is neat :D
Part 1 Part 2
This may not surprise anyone but this update is actually going to be a bit on the short side. We're a Psychic-type and we have a pretty reasonably powerful Psychic-type move at our disposal in Confusion, so we're not likely to need to do too much in order to beat Brawly.
Now to begin with, we have to discuss the next obstacle. We have to save Peeko from the Team Aqua Grunt who has kidnapped her, and that means we have to fight a Level 11 Poochyena to do so. So we're going to need to deplete our PP again. But there's an additional complication here: we've had no real choice than to heal up at a Pokemon Center in order to have enough Confusion PP to get past the previous fights, so we need to spend all of our PP again.
Isn't Ralts fun? Now, fortunately, we have gained the ability to use Cut outside of battle, so we can spend a little of that Confusion PP beating up the four extra trainers on this route. This isn't strictly necessary, but I've got to think towards the future (mainly, Watson) and so I'm feeling a bit incentivized to take as much EXP as I can right now.
Something important to note I do something very silly is that Emerald adds two trainers to this route that were not there before. I'm not the most familiar with Emerald (I grew up with Pokemon Ruby) so I wasn't aware of what these extra trainers had.
Tumblr media
Fucking Wesleyan kids I swear to god. I didn't know this kid had a Poochyena and really without thinking about it too hard I instinctively reset.
Reset Counter: 7
I defeat the other three trainers just fine and now I have a double of Growl and Double Team PP I need to spend as well as the remaining Confusions. If we take a look at the encounters on Route 116...
Tumblr media
-Whismur: Immune to Growl and has a pretty reasonably powerful Uproar for this point in the game. -Tailow: Focus Energy creates a lot of volatility and Quick Attack at Level 8 combined with Focus Energy is pretty terrifying -Nincada: Compoundeyes and Leech Life actually make Nincada probably the least safe out of the entire route. -Abra: lol -Skitty: Very, very rare and a Male Skitty has a chance to just make the entire thing take forever, and Tracing Cute Charm is pretty useless against a Female Skitty.
This leaves, rather hilariously, Poochyena. Poochyena's new move at this level is Howl, which is a bit worrying once we run out of Growl PP, but it means Poochyena has a coin flip chance of actually attacking us. More importantly, it being a Dark-type means we can actually waste a lot of Confusion PP on it. We're also a significatly higher level than the last time we needed to do this, so this makes Poochyena an attractive option.
And we're actually able to deplete all of the PP from Double Team, Growl, and Confusion in one encounter! Wasting 75ish turns in one fight was not quite on my agenda for today but I'll take it. We go back and beat the shit out of a rich kid with our struggling Ralts, hit Level 16, and then go and save Peeko, right? Right?
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Yeah so I clean forgot Ralts learns Teleport at Level 16. I should have skipped that stupid rich kid. Oooh how he's plagued me so far. The worst part about Teleport is that it no longer matters what we encounter, but we have to waste Teleport over 20 encounters since we can only use one per fight. Fortunately, Teleport is actually a pretty useful move to have, allowing us to potential skip huge amounts of backtracking before we get access to Fly.
Tumblr media
We're now really starting to outpace these Poochyenas in terms of level, so this one actually ends up really easy. These are honestly more becoming frustrations rather than actual legitimate threats at this point. This will surely remain the case for all future members of this line.
With that out of the way, we get the Pokenav, and I make sure to take everyone's number I can at this point. This might seem unneeded and it's possible it will be, but I wanted to make sure I had an option open on the table if we needed some future levels. This includes Brendan, so let's go into the Brendan 2 fight!
Tumblr media
Well okay at this point there's not a whole lot a Level 13 Lotad and a Level 15 Torchic are going to do to us, especially if we score a critical hit on the Torchic while it tries to set-up with Focus Energy. Even the Lotad's Astonish does remarkably little to us, and we skate past this fight pretty easily.
We finish our number collecting, get on the boat to Dewford, and go immediately into Brawley's gym. It's worth noting I do fight every optional battle here. I'm still pretty worried about Watson coming up, and ideally I'd like to not feel like I need to do any grinding on wild Pokemon if I can help it, and if we just beat Brawley, all of these trainers will be missed out EXP. Besides, it's all Fighting types, this one actually isn't an issue. So now, let's go to Brawley.
Tumblr media
The only Pokemon I'm really worried about here is the Makuhita. Even with the extra training we did, it still outlevels us and we're still pretty physically frail, so a Bulk Up that follows into a Vital Throw could still do pretty good damage. I was pretty confident that the Machop and the Meditite weren't going to cause any issues: Machop is a very clean 2HKO with Confusion, and Meditite cannot actually damage us as long as we attack it.
Well Meditite is actually a 4HKO with Confusion, which I wasn't expecting, and Brawley has 2 Super Potions, which leads to...this...embarrassing reset.
Tumblr media
Reset Counter: 8
Yeah I just got overconfident on the amount of PP I would need for Confusion and ran out. Oops. Entirely avoidable but hubris blinded me.
Tumblr media
When we return with more PP, Confusion is doing huge damage to Makuhita, although thanks to the Sitrus Berry, it'll still be a 3HKO (although only barely).
Tumblr media
This was why I was worried about a +1 Vital Throw. 19 damage. Whew lads. Fortunately we're not in any danger of losing, but my gut feeling on finishing the fight quickly was definitely correct. If we were Level 16 or 17 and this had been a 4HKO instead, we might have had a real shot at losing.
But of course we don't, so we easily claim the second badge and the third TM in a row Ralts can't use. Awesome.
Instead of funny jokes, I leave you with this ominously:

Prime numbers be upon ye, wench
2. Favorite color when you were younger, and now?
When I was younger it was the specific Scarlet associated with crayola crayons. I distinctly remember being told it was a "girl color" and I never worked out why. I wonder if it was like. because some girls are named scarlet? because of the scarlet letter? we may never know.
Now it's Cyan or Teal. love them shits.
3. Do you wear eye-shadow? What color?
I Have before but i generally don't. When i do it's always really obvious and weird so i can look weird
5. In your opinion, is love at first sight real?
that is completely inconsistent with my understanding of love I have built over the course of my 8 year relationship with my wife (and other relationships before and during). Love is not attraction, it's commitment. It's a choice you make even when the Feeling isn't there.
7. First kiss details? (If you haven’t been kissed, reply how and if you would like to be.)
I tried to kiss my (now) wife after our second date but i missed and fucked up, and they asked me if I wanted to try again and I did it.
11. What is your hair like?
Soft? Long? Blonde? it tangles easy and it hurts lots bc my skin is sensitive everywhere. If i let you touch my hair freely, you know I trust you lmao.
13. What time do you go to bed? What time do you wake up?
generally around midnight. Generally wake up around 6 or 7. supplemented with naps in the middle of the day when I am allowed. Somehow i catpilled myself into a crepuscular sleep schedule
17. Favorite game as a child?
Interesting question, could have any number of answers. I always would say Majora's mask, it was probably my favorite game from an artistic perspective. But from the perspective of which one I just liked to play? Probably like. any given pokemon? runescape? adventure quest????
19. Princess, Fairy, Mermaid, or Unicorn?
Angel<3
23. Do you dance? Slow dance?
Not generally, i got shamed a lot as a kid and its hard to overcome all that still. I did take dance classes for my wedding though, and danced there.
29. When and who was your first crush?
Uhh as far as I remember probably like. this girl named taylor in 8th grade. We had a weird awkward sort of relationship that ended when she told me we actually hadn't been dating and she was dating someone else? She then proceeded to stalk me and tell me she loved me over and over for years after that. weird shit idk
31. Are you superstitious?
No.
37. Are you quiet or loud?
it depends? is anyone one of those as a rule? I guess when I'm quiet its intentional, usually because im shy or anxious or w/e, and when I am comfy i tend to get too loud.
41. Worst fear as a kid?
Dark or heights
43. why isn't there a 43?
Idk! but i added one
47. Do you feel everything, nothing, or you don’t know what to feel?
I feel a lot. I tend to feel it on a delay. Like. I will experience something and then feel all the emotions hours or even days later

If, any BY GOD DO I MEAN IF, we must get Kanto Neo Champions...can we please, pretty please, not do Kanto Birds? As much as I'd love Leaf and Articuno, that's a 1/3 shot, and I don't trust DeNA to not mess that up after they gave Spectrier to Victor. Please do something more interesting. Please.
Neo Champion Blue The only Pokemon options left for Blue were Alakazam and Rhydon/Rhyperior. I went with the latter, because we are in far greater need for more Rock and Ground types than we are Psychic. I went with Ground, because he already has a Rock-type, and I figure sure, we'll let Blue be diverse. It's kind of his thing.
I gave Blue the Field sync, focusing on Ground Zone. Personally, I think a Field pair will be at its best when it has bonkers DPS to contribute, into an ally's sync nuke of choice with the extension. So, he's a 4-bar spam DPS unit first and foremost. Giga Impact is the best we can do with Ground, and by god he shall have it, with a Piercing Gaze effect built into the passives. Similarly, his coverage is Rock Wrecker, because man do we ever need Rock-type damage sometimes. Buddy move is Bulldoze, hitting -2 on Defense, Special Defense, Speed, and Evasion. Defenses are always relevant, Speed is good for myriad Cakewalk sets on both Ground and Rock, evasion is just to mess with Latias and Cresselia. Which, related, Blue's Buddy move is infinite spam and ignores passives that reduce damage, so he is the only Ground-type that fights Cresselia and wins. To emphasize damage, his trainer move is a bunch of survival effects similar to Nemona, but either grants +3 moves up next to any ally, or re-applies Ground Zone if this skill is held for later. Between entry, his sync, and this, that's three applications of Zone. Additionally, because he extends Zones, this should stack with the natural Field effect into a double extension. It should be plenty, even for High Score. Finally, the main draw I wanted out of Blue was a bit more team support, since Field feels more analogous to Support to me. So I went with Team Honing Hit. Just let him cap Atk/Crit for the team by taking attacks, what's the worst that happens?
I haven't thought through Grid, but Haymaker's in there somewhere. I packed a lot into this kit, so I'm not sure what else to add, but I'd consider a Rock-themed approach, where he instead sets Rock Zone on sync, with appropriate rank 5 extension for that instead, giving him two fields to play with. I'd consider Adrenaline, since that speeds up access to an ally's sync. Maybe Pep Rally on something to offset gauges, which are his primary weakness. That or a potential Free Moves Next.
Blue's strength is raw power on Ground and Rock-type damage, which are, I feel, relatively rare. Ground Zone was made available through Courtney, and I wanted to make something a bit more premium. Buddy Bulldoze is the big focus, outperforming Courtney's main utility in basically every way that matters. All while retaining her limitations. Gauges are rough on Blue. His starting speed is okay, but for a 4-bar spam supporting notoriously high-gauge issues like Ground? It's not enough. Team Honing Hit can open up a support that boosts speed, though, so there's a bit more variety in that regard. The reduction of accuracy also helps with options like Maxie, who now safely drops his trainer move to spam Precipice Blades.
Neo Champion Leaf Can you tell I pick favorites? Leaf is the only one I'd actually want. It's been three years, man. Leaf deserves something, with Red having a yearly anniversary treat and Blue having 5 alts. The birds are allowed only if she gets Articuno, but failing that, I'd really like Ninetales, with this kind of nonsense at its back.
Burns and debuffs. Burning Jealousy is a cool move, shut up yes it is. Scorching Sands acts as her secondary DPS, because we don't get enough of that for Ground, but also a Fire-type High Score is destined to have a Ground-weakness, so this sets her up well. The function is that she applies Burn, then it steals the stat buffs of the target. With Burning Jealousy, in CS, you can start the match with Five Stats +3, then just cap all your stats in one action by hitting them with that burn. The chain of skills should go Burn lands, then passives activate. She then follows up with the Classic Elesa skill in Burn format, reducing all stats of the foe by 1 each time she attacks. Her Fire moves are all AoE. Get debuffed idiot. This then plays into her final passive, which is a combination of Good Form and Rising Tide.
Speaking of, Buddy Heat Wave. The goal of this should be fairly obvious. AoE hits all foes for a rebuff, then sets Sun, and restores some HP for her Gauntlet sets. The sure-crit is to save her Trainer Move. It restores 1MP. This allows her to apply the full -3 rebuff, and get three applications of Sun guaranteed. I thought about ignoring passives, but since hers isn't infinite use, I went with no damage penalty instead. Gauntlet Solos are fucking dumb anyway.
The final focus is that Leaf here is Sprint. Each burn is -1 sync cooldown, for a full fast-ramp in 3v3 contexts. Then sync, then boom, another -3. With innate Rising Tide backed by Sun and a rebuff, Leaf has perfect synergy with the focus, which is on rapid, high-power sync that would be overkill with standard Tech.
Leaf's limitations are more cosmetic. She's not as dominant in the Gauntlet Solo meta because she just doesn't have Piercing Blows, and Burn is a bad condition that's stopped short by Tornadus and Entei, who block her Buddy move entirely. In most contexts, though? She's not really built with flaws in mind. The worst I can say is that I set a lot of her skills to be about her own buffs, which isn't as guaranteed on her own. Foes could just...not have buffs. Then what? Not everything is CS. But Rising Tide is also easier to set up than Power Play, so I let it slide. Moreover, I feel like this sets her up to also be more supportive than dominant. Her damage, without burns and without myriad buffs, is only okay. But applying a Rebuff and Sun? She's a great third component to Fire-type teams.
Her grid's focus is fairly easy, thankfully. Power Play as the sync multiplier, Hostile Environment3 and Superduper Effective 9 for Scorching Sands, and probably Mind Games 9 for faster debuffing. Maybe that SS Lysandre skill that debuffs Atk/Sp Def instead. But most importantly? Head Start 1, and Adrenaline 1. Field pairs only have significant value as second sync fast-rampers if you quad queue, or have Adrenaline. Well look at that. Head Start 1 also lets her get -4 cooldown, which potentially allows for double fast-ramping on first sync. Lastly, I'd want SC Zinnia's ability to flinch unbuffed foes, but set it at a 30% rate. Leaf has enough overpowering nonsense in her kit, I don't think she needs AoE stagger on top of it.
Neo Champion Red Red is his HGSS incarnation, there is no Espeon. Therefore, we have to look at the rest of his team. And personally? I'd hope for a second Venusaur. It has a Poison type. And god, do we ever need more of that. I initially wanted to do Max Moves instead, but Mega Evolution works out.
Venusaur's focus is on guarantees. Attacks will Poison. Debuffs will occur from moves. They will spread. Debuffs will happen double the impact. Poison is instead Toxic. After mega evolving, I have over 500 special attack, and am boosted by Spirit. Die.
I kept this as a straight-forward Striker for a few reasons. One is, that is what Poison most needs. I do not want to hear about another Poison Tech with awkward tools. Special damage in particular is valuable, because right now H!Iris does not synergize with the best in show. Red gives her something. But perhaps most important of all...I did not want all three of them synergizing.
No, I'm serious, I hate that. I hate when they drop a set and are like "These are all meant to mesh perfectly even when they have nothing in common." I hate that original Kantrio did it. I hate that Johtrio can do it. I hate that the Dual Rat/Cynthia thing worked out perfectly, and that Galarian Neo Champions got to be a perfect set despite being so wildly different. Just let things stand on their own, this doesn't have to be a set. Him needing poison conflicts with Leaf's need for burns, and neither agrees with the other. He can set Poison Zone but only if no Zone is active so he doesn't get along with NC Blue (unless he's there for special Ground damage, but Blue is physical so figure that one out). That's not to say there's no synergy. SS Blue will still hold together any combination of offense. SS Leaf works great with NC Red. NC Leaf works great with SS Red. There are still combination but I want players to have to look beyond the immediately available obvious solution. You can probably make all three NCs work, as a Ground-type beatdown, but you'd have to decide who the correct tank is and I hope that gives players pause.
As for limitations, I didn't equip him with many. Speed is arguably one, as is "weaker sync from mega evolution," but he's more a DPS focus anyway. I feel like maybe I should've given Venoshock an MP limitation, but I admit I don't want to edit these anymore I've been doing this all morning.
Grid can give him Superduper Effective 9 on Earth Power, and I'd be willing to throw in SS Leaf's Noxious Hit 9 for offense debuffing. Just let him debuff everything, who cares. I'd say maybe something to reduce sync cooldown, but I'm not sure what works best.

Hi :D
May I have a team (:
ok i scrolled through your page and you seem pretty normal. and by pretty normal i mean you havent said a single thing that points me to anything. you have literally nothing showcasing ur personality i can pull from nor have i ever met you before. there's nothing wrong with that necessarily it just makes this a little harder.
ok. so. im gonna have to go by your name. sorcery and socialism. uh. pokemon is a game about magic and shit. and uh. socialism isnt really... a type.
ok so im making the executive decision to assign you a personality in my head based on your message, your reblogs, and your username.
ok you have been psychologically analyzed to be an electric type user. take it or leave it. the team may or may not fit you.
1. Magnezone
Tumblr media
Through my psychic analysis I discovered a love of funky oddball thingamajigs. Magnezone is the funkiest guy imaginable. Also, technically it's extremely sticky. Idk what that has to do with anything but you can do with that what you will.
2. Zebstrika
Tumblr media
This is a safe pick, cause if given the choice between having an electric zebra and not having an electric zebra most people would take the electric zebra every time. Of course, this is a foolish thing to do; most of the time keeping an electric zebra is impractical and unattainable. In this case it is neither, so I am assuming you enjoy having this electric zebra.
3. Raichu
Tumblr media
Everyone likes Raichu. You give me the vibes of a pretty cool person. And like I said it's hard to discern anything about you. Raichu is the same, cool but a pretty not noteworthy Pokémon, just because its line is so popular that saying that you like it is like saying you like pizza or something.
I'm not saying you as a person are not interesting. You seem interesting. I'm just saying that I could not figure out these interesting things about you from your tumblr post.
I'm actually kinda scared I'm being super mean right now and let me just tell you that you could be the coolest person ever and I would not be able to tell because I have such little info to work with, yknow. You're not uninteresting as far as I can tell.
4. Pincurchin
Tumblr media
Ok I may have lied. Through my psychoanalysis, I have figured out that you may enjoy the occasional goober. Of course, this may be a misinterpretation of your vibes, because believe it or not, I am a really shitty judge of character.
Anyway, here's a Pokémon that isn't playing it safe because I'm scared to offend a stranger. Here's the pin cushion sea urchin. Who's an electric type.
It's also the only nonlegendary electric surge user. So. It's good for your teambuilding!
5. Oricorio (Pom Pom)
Tumblr media
Oricorio is based on Darwin's finches. I feel like evolution as a concept is very integral to both sorcery and socialism. Things must change over time, whether thats the air temperature around a fire ball or the model of politics and economics we are using.
Oricorio here also uses electric dance moves to zap its opponents. And you seem like a fan of that kind of thing. As far as I can tell.
6. Galvantula
Tumblr media
You like giant electric spiders, right? You've gotta like giant electric spiders. I mean, come on.
Ok, that's it. This is the worst one so far. You're not boring or uninteresting I just could not discern anything about you from your profile alone (the other people I did I know from elsewhere and also make a lot of posts themselves)
You seem like a very nice person though, so I do think this team is fitting of a cool, friendly person. Don't be disheartened that your explanations weren't as detailed or your team as hand crafted. I'm not a mind reader as much as I'd like to pretend I am.
I hope you like it and if you don't, remember, no takebacksies!

Hello and happy friday! Today I ask this: what’s your all time favorite pokemon episode(s)? Episodes you could watch- or have watched- time and time again, never getting old? And if you wish to talk about it, why is it your favorite?
Thanks to my AMV editing years I have watched Certain episodes over and over and over and over, but I can't do just ONE favorite Drew episode so I'm doing a Top 3 :)
3. Who, What, When, Where, Wynaut
The episode I thought was fanfiction when discovering the plot summary...too good to be true! This is such a good episode for May and Drew (whether you care about shipping them or not) because it establishes a dynamic for them outside of being competitors. Sure, it was hinted at here and there, but they start off bickering and end up enjoying each other's company while saving the other's life...powerful.
2. Now That's Flower Power
Drew debut episode!!! I love him in this so much. He's at his absolute worst here in terms of being annoying and rude, but I love it. Boy was a menace and then immediately dialed it back going forward. The lines from this episode will bounce around my head with exact inflection even when I'm on my death bed because I've seen it too many times.
1. On Cloud Arcanine
Weird choice maybe! But I am just a Big Fan of episodes outside of the contest venue, and this one has the perfect mix of cute stuff and snark for me. Nothing big happens, just a cute little chase episode and a moral about Family. May and Drew have a comfortable dynamic here, nothing too awkward or angsty and it's just Nice.
The non-Drew episode I care most about is No Big Woop in Johto because those Woopers are soooooo cute I want the little stinker troublemaking one so bad...

this is an extremely bizarre question i just thought of but. thoughts on the s/n cast being in a lighthearted (??) au a la hs/college/coffee shop au but still forced to meet (group project members, reluctant coworkers, etc.). i have no idea if this makes sense fksjks
ohohoho this is very fun. time to normalify my favorite weirdos!!!!
lighthearted au of choice is 'everyone works in the same shitty mall' because its the one i can make make sense in my head the best. dont ask why jdhslkag
sam is the long suffering assistant manager for a best buy. eric is the actual manager and the rest of the spire network folks are the other employees here. darcy has stolen at least 2 entire xboxes. indrani, grace, and sam walk to the food court together every day to have lunch together and shittalk everyone else.
sam has a ham radio hobby and uses her store discount to buy parts (i havent been to a best buy in forever idk if they have those. bear with me here). she is a radio nerd in every universe and i love her <3
mel works in the new escape room (cy also works here) and is weirdly serious about it?? emily works in a trader joes. jackie is in the weird little board game store you know the kind.
jackie steals pokemon cards from behind the counter for mel. mvp
i could literally just have said they know each other from working in the same store but instead im about to build the weirdest relationship map ever because #ilovecomplexity. ok here we go
mel, em, and sam have lived in this town and known each other since they were kids. mel and sam were closer in high school, but then mel left town to go to college for a few years (before dropping out), and sam and em started hanging out a lot more. jackie just recently moved to town to go to the state school nearby (fun fact: in a previous version of this story it took place in suburban illinois, and emily went to university of illinois urbana-champaign so lets say its there for funsies). emily is also taking classes there so she and jackie ended up in a class together (em is a math major and jackie is the worlds most pathetic physics major so they probably took like calc 3 together or something) and thats how jackie got dragged into the group!!!
sam has the worst little awful apartment youve ever seen (its literally the r/malelivingspaces i dont deserve a bedframe post) and jackie is somehow always hanging out there (jackie lives with 3 roommates and is always in a fight with one of them). sam frankly does not mind. the two of them get a long a LOT better without an impending apocalypse. physics student jackie + radio enthusiast sam spend a lot of time discussing like, the electromagnetic spectrum and also jackie is making sam watch breaking bad and sometimes they play minecraft.
emily: im gonna ask sam to have dinner at the california pizza kitchen with me
mel: what the fuck. thats a terrible idea. why would you take her to the fucking california pizza kitchen in the mall we literally work at. what??
emily: ...... should i do the cheesecake factory??
jackie is the ultimate 'lie to your boss. leave work for no reason. just walk out. fuck it ✌️' guy and is constantly trying to get the other three to spend work hours just sort of fucking around and hanging out with them. like theyll tell their manager theyre taking a bathroom break and then walk down to the escape room and talk to mel for 30 minutes. mel, who takes her work in this universe as seriously as in canon, absolutely HATES this and is like no im not skipping work with you. stop it. but caves eventually and spends a lot of time just sort of wandering through the weird field behind the mall with jackie and getting high. its great
chaos and absolute tragedy when the sbarros in the food court is replaced by a fancy health food place and its the only topic of discusion for months. no survivors
emily and mel are on a much better path towards actually mending their relationships in this world. i think they both still live at home, and having their other siblings leo and addie around (as well as their mom and grandma) makes them WAYYYY less likely to want to tear out each others throats. sam loves going to dinner at em and mels because it reminds her a lot of her own family (and because shes known them so long shes been going over there forever. helped addie with her math homework when addie was in hs kinda vibe. its nice)
also while sam is still estranged from her family in this version, the paternal relationship between her and eric is also much more clear, which is also nice. sam PEOPLE LOVE YOU.
luna this is bad. im actually kind of very invested in this au now. im kind of going to keep thinking about it all week. uh oh. anyways this is very scattered but thank you for the very fun question MUAH

okay cliff notes ahead
finished walking though the villige, whats up with those scandalize villigers going on bout my clothes, like why
say the inmistakable silhouette of the galaxy hall, gotta say galaxy corps os giving me mad team galactic dajavu
got told to go to a cafe and promptly got kicked out by its owner 0/10 stars would not recomend this place, gotta say im curous how they make enough money to keep in buisness if this is how they treat customers
prof lav shows upan we meet our presumable rivial, of rei?, who has had a bad run in with electric types, because pokemon just stright up try to kill you now
we go into the galaxy hall and meet not-evil cyrus? shes named cylene an is presumably cyruses ansestor, gotta say shes looks much cooler then her desendent
cylene then imedeiatly threatens us with death is we dont pass initiation into the galaxy team, which honestly not sure if thats better or worst them cyrus and his remaking the world thing
andwe have to catch 3 pokemon, i hope im getting my starter before i have to do so cause i need a way to defend myself from the appereantly murerous pokemon
also gotta say im getting real cult vibes off of the whole pass initiation or were leaving you to die thing
alsothefact that they seem to run the town, so their ether a cult or the government or both
anyway prof lav says now i get my starter finaly, i would spend time deciding with one i want but i already know as their the reson i got pla in the first place
after picking up my cyndiquill im making my way to leave to the initiation so i can ether become a cultistor a goverment worker, still havent figured out which
on my way out of town we meet the ginko guild and appereantly the only other person to have a pokemon, volo, and its a togapi
given the fact that volo is the only person tohavea pokemon so far i could totally belive that their my rival instead
also depending on how high a level that togapi gets and if it evolves, that togpi's gonna be a monster in the future
after defeating volo we make for the obsidian fieldlands, gotta say im loving the names of the places in pla
after arriving in the obsidian we get 50 pokeballs which kinda seems exsessive tbh
then before we get to finaly catch pokemon and compleate intiationin the galaxy corps we get to battle rei
who has a pikachu, not what i was exspecting honestly, i thought he would have one of the starters
well after defeating rei nowwe can start catching pokemon, right after readin those instructions real quick
ah cool an auto aim feature, that just solved all my problems with aiming
any way after sneaking, and dodge rolling my way arounf i have caught 2putof the 3, also dodgeroll seems to make alot of noise and imediatly alerts the nearby pokemon you honestly just better off sneaking when trying to be stealthy
now i have to catch the most murderous of them all, shinx, honestly not that suprsing how murderous shinx is once you relize its a cat
after doing so with a handy dandy backstrike that failed an a battles we go back to celebrete my become, officially, a cultist or a government worker, honestly probably not the best life decision but i dont real get a choice between them and the murderous wilds
and back at the village we have dinner at the cafe that kicked me out earlyer and is held afloat by the prfites from cylenes stress eating only, we get a nice dinner of potato mochi with beni stareing at me, something has gotta be up with that guy seriously
i would also like to point out that his mustache and hair are different colors so he has ether dyed his mustache or its fake
afterwords i get to go to my new home and sleep, after that cutscene i saved and quit, so we are picking up from there.
TLDR: i scandilize villagers with my clothes, get kicked out of a cafe that is kept in business solely by cylenes stress eating, meet cylene, cyrus's cooler not-evil anscestor, the galaxy corps is ether a cult or the government and i dont know which, get threatened with death if we dont pass intiation, fight volo and rei the only 2 people with pokemon in this entire village, catch 3 pokemon, one of which is an unsurprisingly murderous cat, have dinner at the same cafe that kicked me out, i swear something is up with beni, why is his mustache and hair 2 different colors, and go to our new home and sleep before i save and quit.

questionsf or fic writers meme: 7, 17, 37, 50!
Thank you! :3
7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?
Hmm... I feel like with the kind of fanfic I write I rarely really get to dive into worldbuilding. I'm more the person who takes 1 randomly mentioned characterization detail of canon and goes to town with it. xD
I am very proud of the Koi Tower eats people headcanon though. Never got to do anything with it yet, but I think it's fun :3
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
There are so many xD
So many highly specific canon divergence scenarios I want to read. Crossover AUs. Plot Derailment Aus.
(a lot of these usually involve someone dying thought....)
But also, I've been toying with a TGCF Gundam AU. I don't have any plot for it, only vibes, but I just think the characters should get to pilot giant robots and have a lot of Drama. and black water arc mecha battle in Space featuring HX stealing a mech he & SQX built together, SQX being the Worst Pilot Ever but also the only one available, and SWD going out in a epic blaze of glory.
I also had an MDZS King's Avatar AU at one point, but all that really featured was WWX getting kicked out of his pro esports team, moving across the street to Wen Qing's internet cafe, and starting over in the game with a new ridiculously overpowered character and building a new pro team with Wen Ning.
Also Pokemon AUs are common enough, but what about Pokemon Conquest AUs! If Pokemon can canonically crossover with Sengoku-era Japan featuring Koei Samurai Warriors, then I think there is potential for an R3K or a Jianghu version!
And also also, Yugioh AU. I cannot write duels to save my life, but I know enough about the game to fantasize about what kind of Yugioh decks characters would have or which clans would focus on which summoning techniques a la Arc-V xD
WWX has a graveyard focused zombie deck. or maybe he invents pendulum summoning in this verse and everyone hates him forever for it
Probably the niche-est AU I have though that very definitely no one other than me would ever read is the Warriors Orochi AU where MDZS characters get summoned to WO3 verse and interact with R3K, Sengoku era & assorted historical/mythological/video game figures. I have had some ideas for 'stages' haha xD
(or maybe a general WO3 mxtx fusion could work. I just really like WO3's plot and stage setups)
37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?
It's kinda hard to say what a fic deserves but I was always a little sad 'Supporting Role' didn't get a little more love (although it's certainly done better than some of my more recent fics orz). It was a fic that had always been on my mind from the first time I watched The Untamed, and especially after learning how different Meng Yao's role with the Nie was in the novel vs. CQL.
The fic was originally going to have a follow up Nie brothers chapter, but I got a bit discouraged at the initial reception and shelved the idea ^^"
50. Answer any question of your choice, or talk about anything you want to talk about!
Writing has not really been easy for me lately, but I'm slowly getting back into it... though without much success at finishing things. I have a lot of ideas, but it's been more fulfilling to talk about them with people than actually writing them. Oops?
I really want to try writing more longfics though. But also short snippets (au or otherwise) that can just stand alone without 1000s of words of buildup
One day I'll get my mojo back!!

Pokemon English Voice Compare/Rank, Professors
In which I rank the English dub voice actors of Pokemon characters from strongest to weakest, and sometimes throw in my 2 cents of who I think would be solid casting choices. This one is for professors.
PROFESSOR OAK: 1. Stan Hart - Original voice of Professor Oak in the main anime. Stan provided Oak with this Frank Morgan-esque voice that after only a little while of hearing it is burned into your brain as THE voice of Professor Oak. It was as perfectly fitting a voice for the character as you could ask for, and Stan Hart’s still got it down so well that he could very well play a good Professor Oak in live action too! 2. Joe J. Thomas - Voice of Professor Oak in Pokemon Masters. Let it be said now that no other VA for Oak could feel as right for the part as Stan Hart did, but Joe’s firm, eccentric, very Tom Kenny sounding voice for him in this game is probably the next best that we could get.
3. Mick Wingert - Voice of Professor Oak in the main anime taking over from James Carter Cathcart, but thus far only for two episodes at the very end of Pokemon Journeys. Boy do I ever wish Mick had been available for Oak sooner, as him doing a slightly deeper take on his Heimerdinger voice for the old professor is infinitely better than Cathcart’s beyond grating portrayal. More of him in later stuff please? 4. Kyle Hebert - Voice of Professor Oak in Pokemon Origins. This is such solid casting, as Kyle could pull off a decent Professor Oak (something closer to his Pryce voice shows that). But for whatever reason, what he ended up going with sounds incredibly boring, not old enough, and just not quite fitting. What a disappointment! 5. Keith Silverstein - Voice of Professor Oak in Pokemon Evolutions. I’ll take Kyle Hebert’s Oak over this one, though! Something about Keith’s very distinctly low and raspy voice coming out of Oak’s mouth just feels wrong. He sounds like an old mad scientist like Charon! 6. Ben Diskin - Voice of Professor Oak in the Two Professors cross-promotion for Let’s Go, Pikachu and Eevee! and Pokemon Go! OK, at least Keith sounded somewhat like an old man! Ben is woefully miscast here, sounding like a nasally, dweeby older Nigel Uno. 7. James Carter Cathcart - Voice of Professor Oak in the main anime taking over from Stan Hart, and how sad is it that the worst Oak took over from the best Oak? At first he sounded alright, and having the same VA as Gary voicing him actually made sense. But by late into Diamond & Pearl, he began to sound extremely forced, whiny, and unbearably grating to listen to, and he only kept getting worse! By Black & White, Stan Hart was available again. We really needed him back as Oak, but TPCI stupidly didn’t take that opportunity.
PROFESSOR SYCAMORE: 1. Jake Paque - Voice of Professor Sycamore in the main anime. Smooth, handsome, elegant but definitely masculine. He does it all. 2. Austin Lee Matthews - Voice of Professor Sycamore in Pokemon Evolutions. A very bit part, but he puts in a good effort all the same. 3. Ben Lepley - Voice of Professor Sycamore in Pokemon Masters EX. I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is about this performance that bothers me, but there’s this effete tone to it and it just bugs the crap out of me ‘cause we know Ben could’ve done better at making the character sound more dapper and gentlemanly like he should sound.
PROFESSOR KUKUI: 1. Alejandro Saab - Voice of Professor Kukui in Pokemon Masters EX. He embodies the part perfectly, even making a light distinction between his normal Kukui voice and his Masked Royal voice. 2. Abe Goldfarm - Voice of Professor Kukui in the main anime. God, this vocal performance was as flat and painfully generic as it gets. Even in Journeys when he finally put some effort into the acting, it was far too late to fix the unfitting voice that he’s stuck with.
PROFESSOR SONIA: 1. Morgan Laurre Garrett - Voice of Sonia in Pokemon Masters EX. The tone, the accent, the line delivery, it’s all exactly what’s needed. 2. Allegra Clark - Voice of Sonia in Pokemon: Twilight Wings. Despite the lack of an accent, Allegra does great at doing something distinct from her Cynthia voice and making Sonia sound age appropriate and like the precious nerd that she is. 3. Britanny Cox - Voice of Sonia in the main anime. She does alright in Sonia’s more low-key and serious moments, but her regular voice for her just doesn’t fit very well. She sounds like a flighty teenage girl, which might suit Lisia but not Sonia! FANCAST OPTION - Abby Trott. Morgan Laurre’s voice for Sonia sounds eerily like a voice that Abby could do, accent and everything!

Assorted Robotnik/Eggman Opinions
Because he’s my overall favorite character in the Sonic franchise.
- I did a post showing his various looks, and I want to be on the record as saying that each and every one of them has some validity to them...except for the 2006 one. It’s just trash. In fact, that incarnation of the character might just be the worst ever, as he’s just a bland, one-note “realistic” take whose M.O of constant princess-napping is a carbon copy of Bowser’s.
- Sonic Boom’s design is the best-looking one, being a great balance of realistic and cartoony in a way that hearkens back to the character’s roots as a Theodore Roosevelt caricature, and with an outfit that screams “scientist”. With that said, the incredibly bumbling character it’s attached to only really works within Sonic Boom’s super light-hearted and comedic setting.
- Archie Comics’ version of Robotnik, in all three of his incarnations (Robotnik Prime, Robo-Robotnik, and post-SGW!Robotnik), is not only hands down the best comic book version of the character but is a strong contender for the definitive incarnation of the character, in the same vein many villains from the Pokemon game series have their definitive incarnations in the Pokemon Adventures manga. He’s simply everything one could want in an Eggman.
- When it comes to the three purely Western Sonic cartoon shows made in the 90s, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog had the best Robotnik, Sonic Underground had the worst, and Sonic SatAM’s was squarely in the middle, having a fair amount of pros and cons.
- With that said, if I really was pushed to say whether I have an overall positive or negative outlook on SatAM’s Robotnik....I would have to say negative. He was little more than a standard 90s cartoon baddie overall (AoStH’s Robotnik ironically felt more like a 80s cartoon baddie which honestly suits the character better), but in the first season he was at least a good standard 90s cartoon baddie. Season 2 ripped away his mystique and credibility, and after sabotaging his own master plan he went out like a punk bitch in order to prop up other villains who went nowhere because the show got cancelled. And it’s really hard to watch him without thinking about the identical-looking Archie version and just how much better he is.
- I don’t hate the Sonic X and IDW Comics versions of Eggman. I’m just very disappointed in them. They both had promising starts, but then devolved into the misconception of Eggman as a “Harmless Villain”, which is antithetical to the Sonic franchise’s very conception.
- The trend of “Eggman gets upstaged by some bigger, more powerful adversary” that started when the games transitioned to 3D isn’t inherently bad. It was done well in the Adventure games and Unleashed, the basic idea of how to do it in Lost World and Forces which both end with Eggman as the final boss anyway was good even if the execution was shaky, and the subversion in Generations was excellent. It’s all a matter of the character maintaining his dignity and relevancy. If those just disappear once he’s upstaged, then it’s bad writing.
- Sonic CD (US) and Sonic 3 & Knuckles have the best boss themes for Robotnik/Eggman. They perfectly encapsulate his evil and threatening yet weird and whimsical nature.
- Robotnik/Eggman has never had a bad voice actor. And yes, I am including Garry Chalk here - he was misdirected (or more accurately, the version of Robotnik he was voicing was misdirected) but he’s a talented guy who clearly has what it takes to do a great Robotnik voice judging by some of his other roles, and it’s a shame that he never had the chance.
- Jim Carrey was the most goddamn perfect choice to play Robotnik in live action and his version of the character is one of my favorites, not to mention my absolute favorite out of all the roles Carrey has ever played. He’s just so much fun to watch and I love to hate him.

I just finished: Cristales!
Tumblr media
Cristales is a game I was looking forward to since playing the demo, an RPG with a focus on time travel mechanics in both combat and out of it. The triangle that surrounds you most of the game seemed like an elegant way of showing the past and future, also letting you send a cute little frog with a top hat through to either side to do things for you, and the way you could you use time travel in combat, for example sending someone into the future wet so their armour becomes rusted, seemed like it had a lot of promise. Sadly, the demo largely showed the extent of the games exploration of these mechanics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The game is generally a bit fairly standard RPG - no that that's really a terrible thing! I like standard RPGs. However if you were particularly excited for what they were going to do with the time mechanics then you may be disappointed, the puzzle mechanics in a lot of the game are fine, but there not really used that much and all the puzzles are basically the same thing. Being able to see into the future and the past isn't actually all that interesting - generally it just shows a slightly nicer place in the past and a decrepit place in the future. You can usually change things in each place so that the future is a bit better, which is kind of cool, but it's nothing special.
Tumblr media
Combat on the other hand in a lot of places ignores the time travel mechanics. A lot of bosses the time travel is useless - either you cant use it all, you can and it does nothing, or it simply buffs them. Perhaps there are some secret methods to use this effectively in more places I missed but they certainly weren't apparent or necessary to complete the game quite easily. Generally the time travel mechanics are used to shift an enemy into one of their 3 states that is most easily defeated, often that means shifting them to the past, but sometimes their future state is weakest, a lot of the time they're all pretty much the same. I certainly discovered nothing similar to the rust mechanic in the demo while playing the full game.
Tumblr media
However, whilst the game certainly could have expanded on the mechanic more, the game does feel fairly substantial, which often isn't true for games with these kinds of gimmicks. It's about 20 hours of content, and the combat system on the whole is fairly decent. The characters are all really fun to play with and all feel very distinctive. Apart from the main character, who aside from time travel mostly is a support character who focuses a lot on healing which I found pretty cool considering healing characters aren't usually the protaganist, used a robot guy who could move enemies from one side of the screen and ora ora-ing the enemies, and another character who focused on randomised moves - their weapon of choice being a bag that they throw random items out of.
Tumblr media
The main thing that stops the game from excelling is a lack of general polish. You will likely see the above loading screen a lot, as it's the only transitional animation in the game, used when moving between areas, loading cutscenes or going in to random encounters. And yes - the game has random encounters, something not even Pokemon does anymore because almost everyone has decided that they're just not good. The game also lacks a lot of animation detail in other places, and the worst part is the lack of sound effects for so much of the game. Most attacks are effectively silent. I can imagine this game really being great if there was some sort of remaster or directors cut that polished a lot of the issues up, but as it stands the game feels a bit unfinished.
Grade: C
Significance: 2/3 - I think the time travel mechanics are still notable enough even if they aren't really explored.
