Astrology Observations 4 : Solar Return Chart Edition

Having your SR Ascendant in the same sign as your natal chart's planet ruler sign will mean you'll likely have a lot of growth and prosperity that year. I have Sagittarius Rising (My Jupiter is in Scorpio). I've had SR Scorpio Rising twice in my life, and both times I did I went through many transformations and had a lot of good luck during those years. Possibly the best years of my life.

Having Jupiter or Saturn in your 4th house could mean you move houses that year.

Having Venus and/or Mars in your 12th house could make people obsessed with you and want to learn more about you, this is probably because you appear mysterious to them even if you're a generally open person, and they wanna get to the bottom of the mystery.

Whatever house pluto is in for that year will be where you change the most. For example if you have 5th house pluto one year then you may get a new hobby or something about your original hobbies will change durastically. Or 8th house pluto could mean you have a sexual or spirital awakening, maybe a near death experience, or you feel like a part of yourself died inside you.

Mars in the 11th house can mean you're more outgoing and even aggressive amongst friends and peers that year.

For example if you have your Sun in the 11th house and your Moon in the 2nd, many themes that you'll focus on that year will be finding your self worth in the groups you're in, standing up for your personal values, and trying to find what your place is in social circles.

Sun in the first house can indicate needing to focus more on yourself that year. More self care and less about other people's problems.

Having a Pisces or Scorpio Ascendant, and/or personal planets in the 8th/12th house are other very powerful placements for manifestation.

Saturn in the 4th house could mean something terrible or life changing is going to happen to you that year. You'll likely learn a lot of life lessons and karma will come to you, good or bad.

I don't know if this is because I'm a Sagittarius rising or if it's just because Jupiter is a lucky planet, but in all the best years of my life, Jupiter was strongly aspecting my ascendant (conjunction and opposition).

Venus aspecting Mars in SR 🤝 being the center of attention wherever you go and having everyone fawn over you for that year. This can also indicate a huge glowup, not just look wise but also socially as well. You will likely gain some level of popularity or positive recognition this year, even you're a more private and not outgoing person.

Having the astroid Nessus conjunct to any of your personal planets or points could make you a target of abuse and bullying for that year. However having Nessus or Uranus in the 3rd or 6th house could also generate the same effect.

Whatever house Uranus is in will be where you can suddenly lose and gain something of those themes all year long. For example, having Uranus in the 7th or 11th house could mean suddenly losing friends and/or close ones but also suddenly gaining them. Another example is Uranus in the 4th could mean having a family member die unexpectedly, or suddenly finding out a family member is pregnant.

Having Moon in the 10th house can indicate spending a lot of time working to advance in your career. You'll likely make big steps towarda your goals because of all the thought and soul you're going to put behind it this year. Same goes for Mars or Saturn in the 10th.

Speaking of Saturn, wherever Saturn is placed in your chart can show what you may have difficulties with or lose this year, but after working towards fixing it and learning from it, you will likely be awarded for your efforts in the end with getting back what you lost or gaining something better. Saturn is breaking you down and building you back up stronger and wiser. Saturn represents our life lessons for this year and makes us appreciate what we have by taking it away from us, but giving it back after we learn and grow.

Pluto aspecting the Moon or Ascendant will make you more sensitive but give you more emotional perseverance. You may become a person for people to lean on and look up to because of how emotionally strong and intelligent you'll likely become this year. But you may go through a destructive period this year that changes your perspective and warrants this change in your emotional psyche. Like Saturn, it'll tear you and all that you know down, to build you up stronger and wiser.

However, if Pluto is harshly aspecting your Sun, you might go through a long period of hardship or some kind of long lasting difficulty. High Schooler Gojo did not know anything about relationships or what they were supposed to be like. So, when he went in a spiral in his first year at Jujutsu High. He knew you before you went to the same high school, but having clans that were close to each other and him being the strongest and all really helped with you guys knowing each other for so long. 

So, in the first years it was obvious to everyone but to Gojo that there was a connection between you too. And then you add in highschool hormones and just Gojo being himself, he was never going to see it unless it was written out for him. And that’s how he was where he was right now. At the beginning of his second year in Geto’s room having something like a realization or a stroke. 

“I think… I think I really am in love with them."He stood up from the bed to turn and look at his friend who was at his desk on the other side of the room. 

“Congrats on being the last one to find out. Now what are you going to do now that you’ve realized this? If you go back to the way that you have been towards them, they’re free for taking.” Geto was trying to hold back a laugh at how surprised his best friend looked, finally realizing that the person he would go out with to see  was actually a crush.           

Gojo did not answer him. He walked out of his room to go and find you and you see if you truly did feel the same. He needed to know that, even though he just figured this out for himself, that you truly did like him and that he was really just ignoring his feelings towards or and vise versa all these years.  

He was able to find you fairly easily. You were in your dorm room with the door open trying to deep clean it from leaving it in the summer. You were currently sweeping out the room when Gojo barching into the room panting from how hard he was just running. It looked like he just ran a marathon.

“y/n, y/n…I need.. To ask… you something.. Very very important” He was just barely able to get the words out to you. You stopped sweeping, turning around to look at the white haired boy in front of you. Giving him a “mem” to show that you were listening to him.

After a miniature he was able to catch his breath and to get his words out more coherently for you to understand. “Do you like me?” he blurred it out to where you could just catch what he had said to you.

“Of course I like you Gojo, we are friends right?” Why would he ask if you liked him? You thought the two of you were fairly close friends, unless Gojo thought you didn’t really think that you like him? You did have a slight crush on him, but that wasn’t what he was asking was it?

“No, no, not in a friend way, more of a romantic way? You know like boyfriend- girlfriend way.” he said as if it was nothing, so casual about it. But if you would have looked up instead of staring at your feet, you would have noticed that he also had a light pink to his face. One that matched the one on your face currently.

If I said yes, would he just laugh it off or think that I was joking? Or is he actually asking me because he wants to know? DOES HE LIKE ME AND THAT IS THE WHOLE REASON THAT HE ASKED? Every question runs through your head and without realizing it you had lifted your head up enough to show Gojo that your face had gone from a light red to almost the color of a strawberry, your eye growing in size from relation and thinking. You also failed to notice that he had gotten closer to you and was now  only a few feet standing in front of you and knew that from the look on your face that you did instead like him in that way. 

“So, you do, don’t you?” He said in a dumb playful voice that he uses all the time on people. “You don’t need to say anything, I can tell just from looking at your face.” with that he pecked you on the cheek and took a step back from you because saying else about be ready at 7 for something and to go somewhere. Leaving the room as he told you, closing the door.

When hearing the door close, you fall slowly to your knees hiding your face in your hands, feeling how hot it is now. But you suppose you should get up and get ready for your little date.

Once Gojo got halfway down the hall  he started to run to go find Geto and Shoko to tell about what just happened, yelling their names and talking so quickly that the other two had no idea what he had just said.

Thinking about the colors of Loki. Brown is definitely meant to be Mobius' color. It symbolizes reliability, warmth, and earthiness. And that earthiness? It meshes very with the positive aspects of Loki's green (growth, life, nature, harmony, fertility). So, it makes sense that when Loki and Mobius are their best selves, there's this harmonious and almost symbiotic growth that happens, not unlike the symbiosis between plants and the earth they take their nutrients from, earth which has, in turn, been fertilized by other plants.

Of course, the negative part of that is the potential for codependency - you introduce some poison to the soil and it infects the plant and vise versa. Imo, we see that a bit with the torture scene. That scene was great if you're a Loki enjoyer/apologist because, hey, turns out his partner is not only ok with the darker aspects of Loki's personality, he also maybe has some of them himself. However, it also showed us that both Loki and Mobius can do terrible things and be ok with them as long as the other agrees it's a good idea. When Loki and Mobius are working for good, they're great. But if they went bad together, things could get very dark very quickly. I think we also see that a bit in their last scene together, with Loki purposefully choosing a Mobius who is still pruning variants when he wants his blessing to kill Sylvie (who represents a part of Loki).

(Notably, though, with Sylvie's inspiration, Loki is able to choose a different path, and to grow in a way that gives Mobius the chance to grow as well, their positive symbiotic relationship intact - I particularly love that it's past Loki who inspires present Loki's heroism).

It's why I really liked the idea of Mobius, Loki, and Sylvie running the TVA together because Loki and Mobius need that voice outside their little couple bubble to say "hey, guys, this is a terrible idea." Ironically, when Loki and Mobius aren't together, they each tend to be the person in conflict with the systems around them. But they don't like to truly be in conflict with each other (the bickering is almost never serious), so they're each very accommodating of the other and his needs, which is great until...torture.

Anyway, to bring it back, I've always thought that green is a really great color for Loki specifically because it has a very strong duality of psychological meaning. Additionally, its darker meanings (jealousy, envy, materialism) are as well represented in popular culture as its positive ones. Brown has a similar clear duality, though its positive aspects aren't necessarily as easily recognized as its negatives. Which is very like Mobius himself.

Y'know I've just realised that now that Aoi can see supernaturals it's going to be really interesting to see how she's going to influence the plot. Because her first interaction with supernaturals was nearly killing her childhood friend, getting attacked multiple times, watching who was meant to be her saviour (because Teru was the strongest person in that situation, he had to be the one to save Aoi because no one else could) nearly die, and slowly crumble away herself. That was horribly traumatising! And now she has to keep living her life with a numb hand and the understanding that (in particular) Nene and Akane are doing incredibly dangerous things. And since it seems the clockkeepers are becoming relevant again, Akane is almost definitely going to be in danger. Again. All the other characters have an at least somewhat positive relationship with supernaturals (as seen by the most recent chapter) but Aoi's got nothing. It'll be interesting to see how her place in the story is going to change given how in the past all she had was the distant amusement about the school's rumours.

Aoi does have a few positive interactions with supernaturals! Noticeably, with the mokkes, who she helped and they helped her back.

And with Hanako, who she doesn’t know had planned for her to die, so in her point of view, he is a friendly guy that helped her in the Far Shore. He is also someone that Nene has a crush on, and vise versa, so Aoi can fall back on her usual “love talk” with him to comfort herself, as shown by how she talks a bit about her feelings on the train, and is even able to relate to him

And while her trust in him is not blind, she does listen to him.

Her overall view is understandably still negative though.

She was clearly traumatized by all the events you listed since she kept the bracelet Teru gave her: A gift that surely brings bad memories but serves as protection.

And I suspect she still wears the bracelet in school, she just hides it, since she suddenly started to wear long sleeves, something no one else has done in her class.

So is not like the days got colder and students changed uniforms, Aoi was the only girl that made a conscious choice to wear long sleeves even if it would make her stand out.

I would love to know how her interest in supernatural rumors would be transformed now that she knows they are real and that they can be as cute and fluffy as a mokke or as dangerous as Hakubo. Or how she addapts to seeing these creatures in her everyday life.

Aoi usually worries about Nene easily, but she seems to trust Hanako with her safety, since he was so protective when Aoi threw them in the trash’ and Akane, one of the few people Aoi trust, also trusts in Hanako's competence.

As for Akane, I really really really hope she doesn’t just go “He has Teru to protect him, is okay” because while it would make some sense, considering Teru was the one that rescued Akane and led the group that came to save her, I want her to be a relevant part of this arc! Akane was so important in her arc, she should be relevant in his arc too! Not just be a goal (her hand). Let her help him somewhat. I would love that so much!!

If you want to see how a character without a single positive relationship with supernaturals would fit the narrative, we already have two: Akane and Teru. Exorcist life is not very comparable to Aoi’s situation, but please take a better look at Akane.

Akane was a normal person that has consistently been tormented by supernaturals. Since his complaints are mostly treated as a joke, people might forget that Akane never forgave the clock keeper for putting Aoi’s life at risk and tricking him to work a job he really hates.

When directly asked about his opinions, the manga drop the ‘comedy lenses’ and shows us point blank that “the clock keepers recruitment trick stuck with him even after all these years. Akane hates them on a fundamental level.”

He isn’t looking at Hanako here, his eyes are unfocused, he is thinking about the day Aoi almost died and using a ton of '...' in his dialogue: It is a trauma. Just because he tries not to think about it, and it isn’t as brought up in the narrative as the main characters' traumas, it does not make it any less of a traumatic event: Many of his beliefs and attitudes got shaped by that event.

Even the mokke try to attack him to steal his School Mystery seat. So he really has no exceptions. 

It makes sense that every supernatural is either an uncaring asshole or a beast in Akane’s eyes. Sure, he can be forced to work with them for the greater good, he is a guy that values his word and his duties, but he will never respect or like them.

I don't think having a desire for something specific is ever bad or wrong. But, I can understand why you may find yourself wanting to double check that your expectations are reasonable so that you don't end up setting yourself up to be let down.

I think it's really reasonable to aim for romantic, sensual and intimate. I think your best bet for making that happen would be to talk to your partner in depth about what those three things mean to you or how to create those feelings for you. Because what feels romantic to one person might not feel romantic to you, and vise-versa. This is just me, but something that came to my mind with those words was massage. If massage helps you to feel intimate and sensual then perhaps specifically discussing starting out with a slow moving, quiet massage might be a plan you could make that would nearly guarantee that you'd at least tick off the 'sensual' goal if nothing else. Perhaps you can come up with other specific things to include that you know have a really high likelihood of making you feel intimate and romantic. In my mind, where you need to leave a lot of space for flexibility is in the actual sex part of it. Bodies are finicky especially when our emotions run high and it's natural to be nervous your first time, or your first time with a new person, or you're with someone who you know its their first time - and sometimes anxiety makes it hard to relax and that can make our bodies not respond to sex as positively as it would if we were able to relax more. The first few times I attempted to have PIV sex it wasn't possible (vaginismus). For other people they might be able to experience penetration but it might not feel good, or the guy might struggle with getting or sustaining an erection. Any series of things could 'go wrong' and so I'd try to go into it just planning to make an attempt and learn about your body and your partners body. I would try not to go into it hoping to have amazing sex that makes you both cry and orgasm together, or something like that. Because while that might sound really romantic, it's sometimes really hard to make our bodies react the way we'd like them to. So try to leave lots of space for how that part of it might go. But a mood of romance, sensuality and intimacy should be able to be achieved regardless of whether your body parts respond as you're hoping they will. So I'd try to focus on that rather than the exact details of how he sex will go. Maybe also ask yourself if there are needs you have based on fears. I easily could be reading way too much into what you wrote, but with you saying what you said about 'just getting it over with' I wonder if you have specific fears about sex not lasting very long, and/or about feeling used or something along those lines. And if you can pinpoint what your fears are, you can communicate those with your partner and see if you can come up with ways to buffer against those. Maybe discuss cuddling after the sex, for example, if that might make you feel like it was less of a 'just getting it over with' kind of experience. It's cliche, but communication is often really key to working things like this out. Try to communicate your needs and wishes as clearly as possible and with the right partner you'll get pretty far together by doing that. :)

I guess you could say this is my UPG when working with this element. I haven’t really seen a lot of in-depth discussion around some of the things I’m going to talk about regarding darkness so I suppose this label fits.

What is Darkness?

The element of darkness is often categorized as a celestial element, grand element, or greater element. This is because it stands out from the more commonly utilized four elements also referred to as common elements by some. However while the typical four; earth, air, fire, and water are consistent the greater elements can often diverge and incorporate other unique titles. Darkness and light always seem to appear on this list regardless but additional phrases such as chaos and order, life and death, can sometimes be seen along side them. For the purpose of this blog though, we will only be focusing on darkness and what it entails as a whole.

So then how does one explain what darkness is? Well that’s actually very simple, it is merely the opposite of light. Something altogether different in comparison that’s needed to benefit the other. Both work in tandem, utilizing their own strengths to not only stand out in their own way but assist in helping the other to do so as well. You see you can’t have one without the other. You can’t come to fully understand darkness if you don’t know light and vise versa.

Representation

Darkness represents everything that light is not. It is the perfect opposite. Where light can symbolize warmth, darkness symbolizes the coolness. Where light symbolizes the seen and the physical, darkness takes claim over the unseen and the metaphysical. When light speaks of life, darkness sings of death. Where light is energetic and hasty, darkness is calm and calculating. Light brings forth your outward emotions where darkness connects to your inner shadow self and all that you keep held inside. Light is the speaker of the conscious mind and darkness is same to your subconscious. It is an energy that thrives in quiet focus and self calculation. Connecting that which is deeply rooted in our very souls.

Misconceptions

One of the greatest misunderstandings about darkness is in the thought that it is evil. This can’t be farthest from the truth. Darkness is not evil, as we just discussed it is only the opposite of light. So then how did such a rumor get started? The answer to that can be found in our basic genetic makeup as a species. Humans by nature are largely diurnal, meaning we are most active during the day. Our basic makeup isn’t suited for nocturnal living, this means we have natural instincts to me more wary when night falls. Before civilization as we know it, primitive mankind had to fight predators at night. It was a time to be cautious and more watchful. So naturally as time went on we developed new and interesting ways to protect ourselves. However, even in this day and age that instinct isn’t completely gone.

Time eventually gave way to media’s ever present and grasping hold over the notion that dark equates to bad and religion in society only added fuel to that fire, but if we really analyze what darkness and light are we can see the truth fairly easily. The argument stands that darkness lays cover for bad things to hide but there are many that use the cover of day to do that as well. Compare a nocturnal animal hunting to a diurnal animal. Each have their own unique genetics that aid them during this time. They are different but each have the same goal, they just go about it in ways that are more beneficial to their nature. So you see, you can hide in the light all the same, we just fail to acknowledge it most of the time because our gaze is often drawn to another direction. With this we can understand that both light and darkness have their positive and negative points, just like everything does. They are opposites but nothing more. The dark is just as evil as the light and likewise just as good. Like all energy it really depends on how we use it that makes it positive or negative.

Since I am doing a story revamp, and noticed I haven't made a separate bio for Karuna, decided to just put the sisters together now. Also came up with a new origin for Moth Spirits for this new story that's simpler.

Their info below:

Moth Spirits: They are said to be born from the souls of unborn/children who died very young before their lives even started, often manifesting in areas where such death has occurred sometime ago. Typically, they never appear as babies, but around 3-4 year old children. People who adopt them tend to still count their first appearance as their "year one"

Names: Mari & Karuna (Karuna's means "hunt and drive away evil spirits" roughly translated)

Heights: 160 cm (Mari) 182 cm (Karuna)

(Karuna was initially just known as Karuna, but after Mari joined them, she wanted to be called with the same surname. Neither could take on their mother figure's surname, as technically the head Priestess is not allowed to have children of her own, so they got around that by giving the two different surnames from Erena's.)

Ages: 23 (Karuna) 16 (Mari)

Family: Adoptive mother figure Erena Mizuka

Friends: Yago (A chimera), Shizuka (A water spirit) Milo & Silas Chiba (names pending for change), Karuna also often hangs out with Akiko, who's closer to her age than the rest.

Love interests: Mari has a crush on Milo and vise versa, but they're also somehow too dumb to realize they have said crushes.

Abilities:

Mari:

Basic moth spirit abilities; flying, poofing into butterflies, pocket dimension to store stuff, glow-in-the-dark wings, sleep inducing vibration from her antenna, spitting webs. Screeching loud enough to shatter glass and break eardrums.

Spells: Some basic water-based magic healing spells her adoptive mum taught her.

Singing: Mari can sing well, and can use it to calm scared kids or lull babies to sleep

Kicks: Mari has very strong legs and can kick you across the room if she wants to.

Karuna:

Levitation: She can't fly but she can hover using her wind magic. She can also levitate other people and objects with it.

Wind magic: She can use strong gusts of wind to slice through and break things or create strong shielding bubbles that most physical attacks can't go through. She can also create air bubbles underwater. She typically creates strong gusts of winds by either slashing with her claws or kicking with her legs, or just blowing air out of her lungs.

Physical strength: She is insanely strong due to being a dragon, able to tear up trees from their roots, breaking thick walls with her fists (accidentally sometimes) and kick things to the stratosphere

Dragonic form: She can turn into a dragon, though she can't stay in this form for long due to her birth defects.

Weaknesses:

Mari

Mari struggles to form connections with new people, and for the longest time her only friend was her sister Karuna. Even nowadays she tends to act suspicious towards anyone new, creating lot of awkward situations. She is also quite naive, so once her trust is gained it can be easy to trick her into doing something stupid.

Karuna

Karuna is self-conscious about her lack of wings and doesn't really like it if people point it out too much and question if she is a proper dragon at all. She often underestimates her strength, causing her to break things without meaning to.

Personality:

Mari is a very curious person and easily excitable, often getting involved in harmless mischief or even causing it by herself. She’s very protective of her home temple and will be on the front-lines defending it (even if it might not be the greatest idea.)

Because of the stigma around her kin, she does have some self-esteem issues, and tends to take comments from visitors really hard, those who believe in the myths that her kin are bad luck and bad omens. When this happens she tends to hide away and it can take hours to find her.

Because of this, she ultimately doesn’t trust “outsiders” that much and tends to spy on any guests to determine what kind of people they are, rather than coming to say hello normally.

Karuna is very friendly and quite expressive despite being mute. While she mostly comes off as goofy, well-meaning but clumsy person, she's more intelligent than people think. When push comes to shove, her sharp mind and ability to anticipate attacks and sense danger shines through.

She can be quite aggressive and scary if she wants to be, something natural to all dragons. Mostly Karuna is pretty chill, going along with Mari and her friend's shenanigans while subtly making sure everyone is safe.

BG Story:

Karuna appeared first, her egg having been found abandoned by some of the priestesses, who decided to take her in. She has become kind of a Guardian for the place under Erena's guidance. Mari in turn was found by one of the shrine maidens wandering around in the nearby woods when Karuna was 7, where it was said a child had died sometime ago during winter storm couple years ago.

Erena took her under her wing as well, giving her the name "Mari Haruko" as she wasn't allowed to officially adopt her and give her her surname Mizuka. Sometime after this, Karuna asked if she could also be called "Haruko" too, having become a big sister figure to Mari.

Fun Facts:

Karuna often lets Mari ride her shoulders

Mari has never seen Erena's true Water Woman form, but Karuna has and understandably finds it scary.

Karuna has never shown any interest towards romance, nor attraction to anybody, though there have been visitors who've found her attractive, mostly Bi/Pan/Lesbian women.

Karuna and Akiko can be quite the scary pair to fight against, given both are quite the heavy hitters, and both use wind element.

They often go on adventures in the forest surrounding their temple, or follow along the river that eventually reaches the lake where the Kureshima bathhouse is.

They actually met the Murasakis the first time by accidentally crashing on their island, as Karuna lost concentration and fell on Mari, causing them both to plummet into one of the hot springs there.

The meeting was initially a bit hostile as Karuna sensed these people were soul eaters, but the lake's spirit Shizuka helped ease the tensions and make the sisters trust her that these people weren't dangerous to them.

Mari and Karuna were both initially a bit sus towards Ayame, the snow woman who lingers around the mountain the forest leads to, who becomes close with Erena.

As it is revealed that Ayame was the one who led the shrine maiden to Mari however, the two warm up to her.

oh anon are you Ready for a horrible ride.. here's a very messy akane analysis!

just a heads up, this is 1256 words long. beware!

akane has been a very confusing character from the start. the first time he's actually introduced, he's obviously 'in love' with aoi. while aoi is a big part of his character, that's really all he's ever seen for; being obsessed with her.

there are serious problems he has when it comes to this 'love.' the only reason he 'likes' aoi so much is because he feels like he can be with her comfortably. she isn't drawn away from him and vise versa. he thinks she accepts him the way he is. but in the end, that's not even true- it’s not the case at all, it’s far from it.

he changes himself for her and for people in general. he changed himself so people in his class would trust and look up to him and also changed himself to be more approachable. he's just changed himself a whole lot, honestly. it’s a very prominent part of his character that can’t be overlooked.

he's an obvious people pleaser because of this constant changing. even after aoi doesn't show interest in certain people after a certain amount of time, akane seems to continue some of the stuff she found intriguing anyway- mainly things he was either known or looked up to for. he continues to pretend to be nice to everyone as the class rep and also stays in the student council. he lets people rely on him a majority of the time, even when he bites off more than he can chew- which is pretty often.

because of all these changes, the only thing he really knows about himself is that he isn't likable unless he shapes himself into the way people want him to be.

he has no clear sense of self and doesn't even know himself how his own personality is anymore. he's gotten so deep into changing for others’ wishes and trying to win them over that he doesn't even know what he likes. he claims that he enjoys 'raspberry pie' but that’s only because it's what aoi likes. he also claims that he likes 'whatever aoi makes for him' even if she hasn't made him anything. he doesn't have anyone he actually feels comfortable enough with to be himself without fear of disappointment and not being liked other than teru and lemon. he only has four friends, actually. aoi, yashiro, teru, and lemon. i’m not actually really sure if yashiro counts, but because of ch 72, i’m including her.

his view on love is also insanely blurred. like, it's seriously bad and an ongoing problem. the thing he feels for aoi is nowhere near love, and so he doesn't know what it's like to really love someone. i'm not sure if this may be caused by family or something else in his childhood, but it doesn't look like anyone really loves him for who he is, so he has trouble expressing proper affection and love in general. he's shown as sarcastic and too honest to some people. an example would be telling yashiro her opinion could 'eat shit and die' or being a little too aggressive to lemon. he's obviously not very good with friends or most people in general. he says himself that people "wouldn't be his friend if they knew how he really was." so he doesn't know what it feels like to be loved back unless he changes himself continuously- which means he doesn’t really know what it feels like to be loved at all.

the reason people ship terukane so much in my opinion is because they both feel comfortable enough to not pretend to be their perfect nice selves for each other. akane doesn’t force himself to filter out his thoughts around teru and vice versa. but unfortunately for me, this isn’t a terukane analysis. forgive me but i had to include this

anyway, akane can actually read other people easily. when it comes to aoi and teru, he can see right through their fake personas; but he knows nothing about himself. he's shown to get upset at them for this reason, pretending to be people they aren't despite him doing the same.

he doesn't like himself OR seeing himself in others. he obviously sees himself in teru. that same reason is why he doesn't put teru on a pedestal like everyone else and treats him the way he actually sees him; which is not very human. teru treats him the same way back. while he's somehow comfortable enough to treat teru the way he sees him, he puts on a persona for aoi the same way she does to him. he only snaps during ch 69 when he tells her he hated her and her persona from the start and found it 'cute' when she cried. it was the only time she was being herself around him. he listened to teru during ch 79 as well because he was also being his true self. i feel like he envies them for that type of thing.

while they're able to actually be themselves at times, he can't because he doesn't have a clue on what he's like anymore. he's hid and repressed his personality for so long that he just can't be the same. teru and aoi might put on a persona to the public, but they know how 'horrible' they really are even if they hide. akane only knows that he's horrible and nothing more.

there's so many reasons he could be this way though. like i mentioned about his family, he might not have been properly loved? the oneshot about him and lemon proves that he was taught that looks and first impressions were everything. he was obviously taught things as a kid that caused him to want to change for everyone. in fact, when he first meets aoi, he's shown with his parents and they sort of motion him towards her. aoi says that he was always polite and 'easily liked' from the start, but that he held the worst burden. he helps out and gives things his all even when he complains in secret. he's been pretending for other people for so long and it's the same reason she 'hates' him too. i wouldn't say it's akane’s fault per say, since it was drilled into his head to be somewhat grown up since childhood, but he genuinely doesn't seem to know when and when not to stop.

that’s probably because a lot of people give into the way he thinks and that's a huge problem. the way aoi acts towards him enables his personality shaping behavior. the way other people put pressure on him to help them enables him as well. there's so many reasons he has to just keep changing and it's really unhealthy at this point.

this may be more of a headcanon, but i believe he has some sort of abandonment or attachment issues. that would tie into his possibly messy and unwanted childhood and family problems, so it sort of fits all together when you think about it. if he didn’t fit their wants, they might have threatened to leave- so when they were around, he was super attached to them. though like i said, this may be reaching…

tl;dr, akane changes himself constantly so he doesn’t know what he’s like. he doesn’t understand love, both given and received. he probably didn’t have a good childhood and now he has abandonment and attachment issues. he also hates himself and doesn’t like when people are like him.

I may have touched on this but I think it’s just been something I’ve had rattling around in my head. But my apologies if I have already written about this.

Hua Cheng says Ling Wen’s essay isn’t anything special. Now , first of all , we know he’s incredibly biased for starters. But I also want to point out context is extremely important. How you look at writing depends on if you’re doing it for leisure / enjoyment or academic settings or countless other methods. And as self-taught and knowledgeable as Hua Cheng is , he ISN’T an academic scholar like He Xuan or Xie Lian or Jing Wen or many others are/were. There’s a lot of things that go into writing that most people do subconsciously. But everything from what word you start a paragraph with to the length you make a paragraph says something for that piece. At least for academics who focus on that. One of my courses in college went into so many tiny details in academic writing analysis that I’d never considered or realized were impactful. I'd been utilizing techniques without even knowing they were there. So maybe from a leisurely point it might not be super impressive , especially compared to Jing Wen’s ‘ jaunty and elegant ‘ piece. But the reality is it could be more impressive in the technical aspects. When you make something overly elegant, you often end up both losing the audience (which is a KEY PART of a writing competition where votes matter) and losing technical elements. Which is fine! Authors have their own voices, but it could be a hit against him.

But ANOTHER point is that elegant and extravagant isn’t always better like I mentioned above. Fancy words and imagery or complex sentences don’t automatically make your writing better , contrary to what people tend to think. ( Especially if you can’t understand what is being described or said because the person is too over-the-top. ) In the right context , ‘ He didn’t move. ‘ could be FAR more powerful than ‘ He laid like a broken doll , still and unmoving on the ground. ‘ And vise versa , detail CAN be far better and paint a clear picture. It’s all about context and purpose of the sentence. Do you want that particular sentence to set up the scene or do you want it to make the readers feel something or let them glimpse in a character’s mindset ? It’s all about purpose. Some of my favorite lines in text are very simple , and some are very poetic. It all just depends

But this is a major point and something I do applaud Hua Cheng for is his understanding of appeal in writing. Ling Wen wrote to appeal to people. And this is something important in writing. Obviously you write your own stories , but in competitions , in academics for grades , you write to appeal to your audience. Xuli was in a bad political situation , people were angry and upset and displeased. While Jing Wen was singing about how ‘perfect’ Xuli was , and how it likely seemed like it to the rich and powerful, Ling Wen wrote to the appeal of the common people. She gave voice to the people’s grievances and didn’t shy away from pointing out the flaws. No matter HOW pretty you may write , if most people disagree and hate it  , it won’t win and it won’t do well. Furthermore , like Hua Cheng said , there were already thousands of writings praising Xuli , so Jing Wen’s was nothing. A bit fancier maybe , but it’s the same thing just reworded a bit. But Ling Wen’s was something new , shocking , refreshing. It appealed to people , people could easily understand it ( since she said she used to write letters and sonnets for all kinds of people ) , of course it would win. Who wants to struggle reading a 24 page essay where they barely understand the words when they could read 24 pages of something they can easily understand and agree with ?

It was ‘ better ‘ because maybe it wasn’t the fanciest , but it was new , it was what the people felt , and it could be read with ease. And may have been better in technical applications or been more effective.

CHAPTER THREE: NOT A GIRL

Gwen had gotten her glasses last week and things were better for her.

Well, except one thing. She had this gut feeling that something about her wasn't right. Splinter let her wear whatever she wanted or play with whatever toy she wanted, but her pre-school teacher insisted that because she was a girl, she had to play with the more traditionally feminine toys.

Gwen did not like Mrs. Haarmann, at all. She was rude, bossy, and controlling. Despite having a mixed class, she did not want any boys talking to any of the girls and vise versa. Which was such a dumb rule, in Gwen's opinion.

The worst thing Mrs. Haarmann did was forcing Gwen to play with feminine toys. Gwen found herself enjoying the toys she could take apart and build (like the class's big Lego set) or the robot toys with mechanical features. Toys that Mrs. Haarmann considered to be boys toys. Gwen didn't have anything against dolls or tea sets, but they weren't her cup of tea (no pun in intended).

Mrs. Haarmann also did not respect any of Gwen's boundaries. She would grab her hand, or pick her up, and ignore Gwen's whimpering protests. She would try to force Gwen to "speak like a normal person" and not use sign language.

Gwen's complained to Splinter about her, and he's complained to the pre-school's owner about her. Yet, nothing actually got done. If Splinter tried to remove Gwen from the class, the school would threaten to tell people where he lived (which he didn't want so he could avoid the press and paparazzi as much as physically possible).

This meant that Gwen was stuck with a woman she hated for the next year or two.

Mrs. Haarmann crouched next to Gwen, putting her boney hand on her back, and smiled. She smelled strongly of perfume, causing Gwen to cough.

"What are you drawing?" she asked in her fakely sweet voice.

Gwen raised her hands to sign her answer, but Mrs. Haarmann grabbed her wrists.

"Use your words like an actual person."

She tried to yank her hands free, whining in discomfort. Mrs. Haarmann's grip tightened, her eyes flashing with warning.

With a defeated huff, Gwen mumbled, "robot."

"Robots are for boys. Shouldn't you be drawing a unicorn?"

"Why?"

"Because unicorns are for girls. Robots are for boys."

Gwen thought then looked up at her. "Then I dun't wanna be girl."

"Excuse me? You are a girl, you are not a boy."

"I dun't wanna be girl!" Gwen repeated, raising her voice to be louder than it has been before.

"Go to time out. Your father and I will be having a talk about this when he comes to pick you up."

"But—"

"Now, Gwen."

Gwen huffed and stomped to the time out corner, kicking a classmate's Lego creation.

Splinter arrived to pick Gwen up and saw that she was in time out. That made him frown. Sure, she could have freak outs (Splinter suspected that she had autism and got overstimulated very easily because of it), but overall, she was a well behaved kid.

"Good evening, Mrs. Haarmann."

"Good evening, Mr. Hamato. You and I need to talk about your daughter."

That can't be good...

"Is something wrong?"

"I had asked her about her drawing during art time."

"Did she draw something inappropriate?"

"Yes! She drew a robot!"

Splinter furrowed his eyebrows together in confusion. "Was the robot doing anything violent?"

"No!"

"Then I don't see what the problem is. Gwen has a small obsession with robots."

"Robots are boy things. And when I told her that, she said she doesn't want to be a girl."

"Huh. Hey, Gwen, could you come here?"

Gwen slowly came over and sat in the small chair next to him. She looked up at him with curious eyes.

"Mrs. Haarmann here said that you don't want to be a girl anymore. What would you rather be?"

A small smile formed on her lips as she thought. She made the sign for 'boy.'

"You want to be a boy?"

Gwen nodded.

"Do you have a different name you want to go by?"

She stopped to think. "Donatello?" she said softly.

Splinter smiled and nodded. He turned his attention back to Mrs. Haarmann. "Gwen would like to be Donatello."

"She's a girl! She can't be called Donatello."

"Sh— he just said he wants to be a boy," Splinter said simply. "So, he can be a boy if sh— he wants to be."

"But—"

"And if you continue to harass him and mistreat him, I will be suing you." He stood up. "Come on, Donatello. We've gotta go tell Auntie Carol and Uncle Kirby the news!"

Donatello nodded excitedly. He made grabby hands, showing that he wanted to be picked up. Splinter smiled and picked him up.

"Remember, treat my da— son right, or I will sue you for harassment."

Mrs. Haarmann gritted her teeth. "Fine."

"Blood is the New Black"

"Senior year is not all about skipping classes and dancing for the security cameras at Walmart"- what??? Why did she say that? It was so oddly specific.

I really love these morbid touches to the show- the finger bone corset and the teeth? Awesome. I kinda wish they could have just gone all the way and made it a horror. They do such a phenomenal job with the sets and the set-up for some of their most unnerving scenes, it seems to be the stuff they're the best at. It might even work as a dark comedy. I'm not sure if I wish the whole show had darker shades to it because I'm way too easily impressed (let's be honest, there are some horror movies out there that set the bar *really* low) or because I'm a jaded pessimist who wants to make everybody miserable. I think it would have worked for the show's advantage.

Why are English teachers the only teachers on this show? And why does it seem like everyone is one? Ezra, Byron, Ella, Meredith, Jackie, not to mention Aria wanted to become one and Alison eventually did. Who in the writer's room had a massive hard-on for their English teacher and never got over it? Or feels like the time and opportunity to do their dream job just got swept away in time? Maybe they can write a poem about how their English teacher or teaching aspirations slipped through in time like sand in an hourglass. They just casually have teachers transferring from high school to college and vise-versa like stepping down from a college-level profession to make high school wages isn't a huge demotion.

I am really not a fan of how Aria pushes Ezra on Emily in spite of how uncomfortable Emily is with this the entire time. Aria is literally the worst friend in the group. And yes, it does seem like something a teenager would realistically do but the narrative never holds her accountable. She never has to apologize- if anything, everyone eventually gets along at her insistence, so it looks like she was supposed to be right. It's just more of Aria having compassion only for her boyfriend.

I had forgotten a lot of small details about this flashback scene where Aria and Alison trash Byron's office. It just makes me hate him more. He really was only sorry after he got caught. Also, a little gross that Ali tried sniffing that throw pillow to identity Meredith's sweat. What is she, a bloodhound?

Why do they focus so much on what Jenna does with the inedible parts of fruits and nuts?

It is so weird to me how little empathy (or sympathy) these auxiliary characters have for the mains. Personally, I don't find it hard to understand why Spencer wants to talk to Garrett or why Hanna would want to visit Mona- I find it harder to understand why Hanna's friends have to push her into it, and why everyone is so shocked she would go.

I don't think finding eye drops is a very good indicator that a formerly blind person can see...she lost her vision due to a fire, and that could damage all kinds of things, including the ducts that moisturize your eyeballs...and the skin and hair around your face. I know Jenna is supposed to be able to see right now, this was just a flimsy trail.

I really don't feel like Aria owes Meredith an apology, and I can't put my finger on why. I don't think she necessarily did the right thing, but I also don't know what else to expect from a teenager under these circumstances. She felt like she had to keep the secret or her family would fall apart and, as a kid, what power did she really have? It's understandable that she wanted to make sure the affair was over. The only person who may have owed Meredith an apology was Byron, himself; he regretted the things he said to her and whatever he said to her was his responsibility. Meredith owes Aria an apology for continuing to see her father even after she knew he was married with children. I don't know why she's such a thirsty bitch for this crusty old man.

Why did Mona fake this catatonic state? Like what was going on with that?
