DCU from a Marvel fans limited perspective

recently i've accidently been sucked into the DCU universe, mostly Bat family, if i'm being honest, and although i've never watched a single movie/episode, this is what i have gathered from purely reading the occasional fanfiction/lots of tumblr posts

SPOILERS i guess

There are A LOT of batkids

Bruce Wayne adopts these motherfuckers like they're some kind of limited edition pokemon set

no one is actually sure how many there are but if you have black hair and blue eyes and live in gotham, Batman doesn't care if you've got parents or not. you're coming home with him

There appears to be five Robins and Batman goes though these children like a chainsmoker with a pack of cigarettes

Thats okay though because people come back to life a concerning amount as well

Jason Todd died and came back to life by being dumped in a pit of magical water

Damien Wayne is the only biological child of Bruce and he mentions this a lot

Dick Greyson was the first Robin and the first adoption and i think he and Bruce got in a fight and he left to become Nightwing

Jason Todd stole the Batmobile's wheels and became the second Robin. after he came back to life he became Red Hood

Tim Drake was not an orphan, he just fit Bruce's target demographic and was conveniently close (I mean come on, it's like express shipping) He is also some kind of super-genius. He was the third Robin but became Red Robin/Drake

Stephanie brown(?) was the fourth robin(?), not sure for how long. People get upset when other people forget. I think she's called Spoiler or something

Damien Wayne is the final Robin. Hes this assassins son and im pretty sure Talia dropped him off at the Wayne Manor and said, "I had him through the terrible twos, you get the teen years'

Not entirely sure if Tim runs Wayne enterprises

Unlike most other sidekicks,Summer Kent wasn't introduced in a run of his mentor to be brought back later.Instead,he premired in his own series in 1983 with the writers purpose with him being to show what it would be like for Clark to take Bruce's route and adopt an orphan to raise them as both his own child and a protege.He gained what were called 'mixed reviews' but in reality was just a mix of love from black,latino,queer and autistic comic fans,female ones especially,and hatred from bigoted ones.Summer has gone through multiple,let's say,'seasonal changes' personality and design wise and this was made to help you read on when,how and why!

Sparks:Secret Origins-The solo series in question!43 solid issues,a great introduction into his character and let's you get a good grip on what he was like as Sparks,as well as his familial relathionships and longest running friendships

The New Teen Titans-A major recurring character in this run due to Dick and Kory's mentorship of him(be warned of secondhand embarrasment when it comes to his self-aware crush on Dick showing and him thinking he's just jealous of Kory when he's actually crushing on her too)

A Death in the Family-For the final interactions between him and Jason before Jason's death

The Last Day of Summer-His accidental death at the hands of Mr Freeze,DC's response to people saying Sparks and Robin don't work without eachother

Ember's Ashes-His ressurection and journey to herohood.70 issues of character development and not a single page was wasted as he grew from an angry,violent and gothic little girl to a bubbly and openly kind young adult with a love for femininity in a transgender way as he realized his genderfluidity.This coming of age tale includes his first relathionship with none other than Rose Wilson,Deathstroke's daughter and the fourth Ravager,which ends on odd but good terms.(See also Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen as they heavily overlap with this run,including him gaining his kryptonian name as 'Va-El',given to him by a newly ressurected Clark)

Steel(1994)-Same situation as NTT,him being mentored by the protagonist and appearing as a major supporting character as a result

Superboy(1994)-Summer trifels with his greatest battle yet:Being the oldest sister to a teenage boy.Hilarity,sibling and parental angst and bonding ensue in this series,along with Summer teaching Kon-El how to make his way in the world and beating up a couple of predators in the process and him giving him some Kryptonian hybrid powers tips in thanks.Here and in Ember's Ashes is when the rest of the Superkids(Chris/Lor-Zod,Mia/Cir-El and Jon Lane or 'Laney')join the Superfamilia

Young Justice(1998)-44 to 45 and 48 to 55.Pops up in World without Young Justice as otherworld Jason's s/o,a childhood friends to lovers hero/civillian romance,and the gang convinces Kon to get him to tag along as a 'dorky babysistter' as the Boy of Steel put it after seeing how strong he is in action.This is the first time Summer thinks about mentoring younger heroes other than his adoptive siblings

Robin(1993) and Batgirl(2000)-128 to 130 and 26-38 + 53-62.Summer said 'fuck Tim,Jason's MY Robin' before they even met and Stephanie didn't get any better off until them and Cass decided to team up and now they're girl best friends(actually platonic for them and Summer,the regular meaning for Stephcass)

Lost Days-He's on Jason's mind a lot during this run if Jaysumm is your thing

Supergirls-Starring the Superfam girls as an ensemble cast,this rotates between 'Girl Power media that's actually pretty feminist and fun' and 'Weird,weird and MORE weird'(and that adds on to the feminism and fun).This includes a special crossover issue where Summer and Mia get Cassie Sandsmark to re-embrace her butchness

Under The Red Hood-Sparks and Robin finally reunite but not like they expected!Summer is heartbroken at his best friend's new found darkness and wants to save him from it but Jason just wants to patch things up.And they both get what they want in:

Ember/Red Hood-World's...strangest...ROMANCE⁉We get to see this lovebird and loverfang take the first steps to finally getting together in this 29 issue wildride!Much romance,comedy,inner torment and rubbing off on eachother(not like that!!Mind out of the gutter,people!)gets done but sadly no actual kissing

Tiny Titans-Shows up pretty often thanks to being Superman's oldest kid and the second Superkid to debut in canon,usually as an mc and is in a comedic love square with Jason,Eddie and Rose as the center

We are Robin-3-9.Gets very close to the 12 year old Duke Thomas and to his gang to a lesser extent and is the reason he gets adopted by Bruce and made the official 5th Robin(Overlaps with Ember/Red Hood)

The Bird and The Dragon-Mini 13 issue series of him and Damian becoming found siblings and him Damian's first friend(Overlaps with Ember/Red Hood and Batgirl(2009))

Batgirl(2009)-Appears in every other issue so it's best to just read all 60 of them!Many epic black girl friendship momence between Summer and Stephanie + Jason comes in from time to time to cause problems on purpose(and to flirt with Summer)

Red Hood and the Outlaws-Summer finally joins a team and never like he thought he would.Jason's influence on him turned him into a different person again like when they were sidekicks but this time making him into the brightly destructive vigilante Ignite,hated by Metropolis once more for his antiheroics and turning over a new leaf because of it!This 92 issue series brings back familiar faces from Jason and Summer's pasts and tons of new ones,stacked with fantasy elements,trauma,jokes,epic fights,genuine bonding that a good chunk of them don't care to admit to,fanservice that caters to bisexuals and Jaysumm's canonization!But only near the end because ✨drama✨

The lineup for this team is:Jason Todd as Red Hood and briefly a Star Sapphire,Eddie Bloomberg as Red Devil,Rose Wilson as Ravager and eventually Willow,Summer Kent as Ignite,Artemis of Bana-Mighdall simply as 'Artemis',Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern,Pepper Jackson(@moonage-gaydream)as Star Sapphire and Thaddeus Thawne as Inertia.The team technically disbands by the end but they all remain best friends and keep in touch!

Gotham Academy:Second Semester and Gotham Academy/Lumberjanes-Major support once more(and main character in the latter)but this time finally in the mentor role!Maps and he in particular are linked(This is a special tool that will help us later)

All New Teen Titans-Damian's Teen Titans generation has come and their mentors are Jason still as Red Hood,Duke as The Signal,Stephanie freshly new at being Batwoman and Summer as Superman,taking over his Papí's mantle in the meantime as Clark is in a coma from rescuing Jon from Ultraman.Damian's lineup is him(Shadowbird),Maya Ducard(Nobody),Surren Darga(Fang),Jon Kent(Superboy),Nell Little(Batgirl),Maps Mizoguchi(7th Robin),Colin Wilkes(Abuse)and Kathy Branden(Beacon)

Their adventures are much more light-hearted than the Outlaws' but no less impressive and their bonds are all over the place in both bad and good ways and by the end,they've become family(Jason and Summer taking on the 'Team Parents' role and with additional romances in Damimaps,Surnell and Mayakathy).This run is 55 issues and lasts two years in-universe

New Ember Days-An ongoing slice of life epilogue that shows him being as beloved as Clark after going back to Ember,with a slightly adjusted costume(thank Jason for the pink domino mask,same as the black one for Ignite)and eventually comes up to him and Jason having their first bio kid after getting married,a girl named October with a mix of Kryptofang and Lazarus Pit dna and a bright attitude and love for most things.Action is frequent in this one and as always,humor is too

Wayne Family Adventures-He gets passing mentions in the earlier episodes and debuts in Dirty Little Secret,where Damian discovers him and Jason are dating while looking for Jason's weakness and returns in Belonging to comfort Stephanie after a call from her and does the same for Jason in Strong Enough while visiting Wayne Manor,slowly becoming a major recurring character from then on

Dead Sidekicks Force-Completely optional,this is an au that dives into what would've happened if Summer,Jason,Stephanie and Damian got even closer earlier and decided to form the titulary team as based on them being 'Dead Sidekicks' and recruting honorary members as they went along.Similar to the animated Teen Titans adaption in tone and to a lesser extent in artstyle too

That's about it for comics but for animation and video game fans,he also has big roles in the Utrh movie adaption,Ditf 2020,Lego Batman:Family Matters,the aformentioned Teen Titans cartoon(which has Dragon Rose as canon since they're both Dick's age in it and there being no Jason),the Injustice game series and Lego DC Supervillains and will be in season 2 of Batwheels along with Clark and Lois!

Cale wakes up at 18 with the memories of himself across all three world. Like him as Cale, him as Kim Roksoo and the memories of KRS!Cale and he’s prepared and happy to leave his life behind bc there’s a world out there meant just for him. Even if it’s a him with a different face. He waits a day. Five days. A week. Goes to the slums to feed two kittens he has no right protecting. A month later he goes to Harris village, a village with all these horrible memories and all these people that his mother loved and he finds a happy community and a happy Choi Han, orphaned young but raised in Harris village not plucked out of another world and into the Forest of Darkness.

Him and Roksoo saved their worlds. There’s no more crossed paths. No more insane, powerful demigods to defeat.

There’s just him. Stuck in a world that has never needed him with people who have proven across three lifetimes that they have never needed him.

Two weeks later the Henituse County has adopted two Cat Tribe children and their eldest Son has just disappeared after a night drinking.

Ron finds himself in the work of hunting down a rebellious little pup and across Roan Kingdom there is a story, of a lone traveller with Golden rings and dark amber eyes. (Og!KRS actually gets to (somewhat) peacefully and obliviously live his slacker life with a family he loves. Y’know, massive trauma put into a little, inescapable box aside. Though the Webnovel he’s reading is getting really weird, weirder than when the author abruptly ended the fifth volume in a cliffhanger and made a sequel. And he’s never been too fond that the main character of the sequel shared his name, made even weirder when his friends names popped up as well. Of course he stuck with it and he thought the end of the second book was pretty satisfying. But the third book is just really sad and prolonged? This whole third/fourth life thing is getting a bit depressing and shouldn’t stories have like. A happily ever after? He’s also kinda worried about how dumb the main character is. Maybe he should start leaving comments on the chapters. This Cale punk really needs a good kick on the back. And a therapist damn. You know someone needs a therapist when he’s the one suggesting it.)

This is a text my dad sent me. I have several thoughts.

This is the first time he's told me that JC was gay. I knew this but was told a few years ago by my cousins. I met JC several times, he was very friendly, well liked, and played organ for the little congregation my grandparents attended.

One time we drove to his home, but my parents didn't allow us children out of the car, and JC came to the front door but kept it shut behind him so we wouldn't accidentally see his partner. I never saw JC bring his partner to family gatherings or even to church to hear him play the organ, isn't that sad?

Interestingly, in response to someone questioning if JC should be the branch organist, I heard my very Southern conservative grandma say, "What people do in their bedrooms is their business and no one else's." That stuck with me because that's definitely not the LDS way. I was a teenager at the time and having a bishop ask me about masturbation was something that happened a few times a year. My grandma was right, it was none of his business.

What a great thing it would've been if me and my gay cousin had known the truth about JC and able to talk with him about this and understood his life. Instead he had to hide in plain sight.

I have never spoken with my dad about a desire to have children, and several years ago I put that dream to bed, so for him to randomly bring it up is surprising.

I suppose this is an evolution in his thinking. He recognizes the unfairness of LDS teachings when applied to gay people and has developed this work around. While this seems hopeful and wonderful to him, it's problematic to me.

First of all, why are these children orphans? What traumatic thing happened to their own parents?

Secondly, current LDS practice is children can only be sealed to parents, a husband & a wife. At present, a single parent cannot be sealed to their child. Does he mean I'll also be married to a woman? In other words, he believes I won't be gay?

Third, why do I need to wait to the Millennium? Couldn't I adopt some orphans now? Isn't there a need now for them to be loved and raised?

Fourth, do I have a choice in this arrangement? What about the orphaned children, do they choose who becomes their new family? Or is this type of family arrangement required for all of us?

When people say that I'll magically be given a family after death, or that I'll be transformed to not be gay in heaven, that feels like the person is absolving themselves of any need to do anything.

There's no reason to make things better in this mortal life because things will be fixed after death. It's not necessary to wrestle with a theology that excludes queer people because queer people will not exist in heaven. It's an easy out for themselves that allows them to ignore the uncomfortable truths. And importantly, these types of comments don't provide comfort to me, the actual queer person who will be impacted by those beliefs.

Being gay is an important part of how I experience life and understand myself. My gender identity also is important for the same reasons. Stripping me of those characteristics would make me someone else, not me. By saying I won't be queer in heaven, it feels like saying they wish I wasn't queer at all, that there's something wrong about it, and they wish they didn't know me but some non-existing version of me. It would be more convenient for them if I wasn't me.

Please love me for me. Please want me to have happiness and joy in this life.

Promised!Eliz (Timeline V)

Elizabeth Will (20 years old) Granddaughter of the "legendary P! Gerson" and fifth returnee of Tamara's group

When Promised! Tale was created She was found hanging from a pine tree waterfall (for 4 hours) when she was just an orphaned child.

And who was the one who rescued her? "P! Gerson" found her after retiring from her position as a royal guard due to her age and poor health. She was surprised when she tried to return home and saw the little girl in trouble and very tired. Without much thought she cut the pine tree with her bone sword. and he took care of the girl since she was in very bad condition.

Although the girl was not responding due to lack of food. She realized that she was the girl that many said stole food at the waterfalls. Despite her oath to hand such people over to the royal guard to the empress. She saw the girl in need, but apart from that, she was a girl and didn't see that as necessary. But if you go with all those who ever see you steal something from them. She gave those inhabitants a joy to see that the girl did apologize for her past actions since P! Gerson showed her that those actions of hers would not take her anywhere.

To which, after being able to feed her, something in her had a hard time talking to her. since little Eliz barely knew how to say a word. That put more stress on old P! Gerson to find out more about the girl and her past. to which she went to her old friend empress toriel to ask if she knew anything about the girl or her family…

To which the empress is surprised to see Eliz after a long time. and she responded that Eliz was a creation made to give a family to a human couple. But at the time of creating her she ran away from her (since she became nervous when she met her new family) and shortly after she was searched by the entire line of sentinels but they never found her whereabouts. until now that P!Gerson found her

To which Father Gerson understood and saw the little girl shortly after meeting her and for several months he walked around the island asking who the girl belonged to and if they knew about her family. He became attached to the girl during that trip and search.

To which he offered to take care of her and adopt her. giving him a good life and education.

Eliz grew up surrounded by good friends in Waterfell and at the same time helped her grandfather with her medication. Until everything fell apart due to the fall of the kingdom by Error!Sans. causing the fateful death of Eliz, who with her sacrifice saved her grandfather but at the cost of her life she was disintegrated by space and time.

Leaving P! Gerson heartbroken over losing his only family…

Years passed and we talked about how after Tamara she reset the world after obtaining the fourth reset fragment. (Timeline V was created) This is where Emperor Gaster after failing in his attempt to dominate the Au in the fourth timeline. He finds the code and Eliz's soul in the underground. And thanks to his ignorance and his thirst for revenge because of Tamara and a small group of returnees who were previously his allies, he turns Eliz into a returnee and as one more in Gaster's plans he orders poor Eliz to attack and finish the beings from Ebott Island and Tamara's silly team who were just becoming known as the saviors.

And this is where the story begins of Eliz being a returnee and how she fought Tamara against her will due to Emperor Gaster's curse….

(I am NOT going to give any more spoilers about Eliz and her story since "This subplot of the comic is the one I liked writing the most and it would be bad for me to tell it all): 3

Curiosities:

1- Eliz is bisexual

2- The bone sword she uses is a gift from her grandfather P! Gerson (Maintaining the legacy of her former grandfather)

3- she likes pizza with pineapple

4- She loves to collect cascading gemstones. This is a hobby that P! Gerson himself dedicated himself to entertainment when he was barely 6 years old.

5- She likes to read superhero comics.

6- The reason she can levitate is because her powerful soul that has the "optimism" trait is released through magical waves that make her levitate slightly.

7- The Cap she has was found in the waterfall dump even though she had to fight with P! Dummy to get it when she was an orphan. She says it's her favorite cap. and that if she were lost she would go crazy and would not tire of looking for him.

8- She suffers from Brontophobia (Fear of storms), reason? Lightning struck him after he failed to control her levitation.

my headcanons about the weasley-wood family but i try to make them coherent

(side note - if you want more info about the oc kids i gave them in this fic, you can find said info here. there will be some inconsistencies, because i've changed some info about the weasley-wood family story since then, but most info is the same.)

percy never wanted kids as a child growing up in a family with (in his opinion) far too many kids.

oliver and percy got together in fourth year, so while oliver had had a few thoughts that it would be nice to have a big family he could play quidditch with, he didn't really think much about a future where that could actually happen.

after the war, they both took a different perspective on this issue after the war orphans fund was introduced and harry was all over it.

it started with them fostering kids. they took care of a few different children. only children and groups of siblings, infants and toddlers, etc. but then they met lucy and her half brother.

lucy was two, but her infant brother was too young to have a name by the time he and lucy's parents were killed. because they felt weird just calling him the baby or lucy's brother, they nicknamed him skye after where oliver grew up.

this is really when they got attached, because how are they supposed to let go of lucy and skye after this? after giving skye a name and lucy her first broom? (yes, she was only two, but this is oliver wood we're talking about, so who's really surprised? at least percy was able to talk oliver into not letting her fly alone.)

a year after they officially adopt lucy and skye, they decide they want another kid. (it's for the charity. they're doing it for the charity.) this is how katie comes into the picture.

katie has dark hair and dark eyes and olive skin and doesn't look anything like her siblings or percy and oliver (lucy and skye, who have blonde hair and blue eyes and brown hair and green eyes respectively, both look like they could be biologically related to their parents). and this changes absolutely nothing.

katie and lucy both love quidditch - lucy lives and breathes it just like oliver does - and yet they are both truly, undeniably like percy.

katie is the one people always talk about. the girl who's most like him all the time, even though he doesn't see it (or, at least, pretends not to). the girl everyone bets will be in slytherin because she's too alike percy to be in any house other than the one he was in. she's even ultra powerful like he and oliver (and marcus and penelope) are.

lucy, meanwhile, is the daughter most people don't realize is like percy because she's so unlike him outside of home. it's not like she isn't herself outside the house, but she's much more outgoing. much more energetic and ready to pull pranks, because why be anything less when there's so much of the world to see?

but at home, everything is familiar. there's nothing new to see when she knows it like the back of her hand, and she can be calm and run on the beach and overturn rocks in search of crabs without feeling the want (or need) to put on a show. and there, at home, in her element, she's so much like percy that sometimes, he has to look away.

percy and oliver were 1/2 of the golden era marauders, and now lucy is 1/4 of the next gen marauders. percy is secretly very proud of this.

skye doesn't like quidditch, and doesn't really like talking to people at all, but he's painfully similar to oliver. almost weirdly so.

skye is a hufflepuff, but - like lucy - he was a hatstall, and like lucy, he was almost put into gryffindor. he doesn't really even understand quidditch, but he spends hours in the library pouring over strategies when his friends or sisters need him to.

skye is the one who looks like he could really be oliver's son, because even though he has green eyes and oliver has brown, their hair is the exact same shade and texture. skye is the one who gravitates to oliver's side while lucy goes to percy's, because while he loves both his parents, we look for people who are like us, don't we?

there are moments when the five of them fly together, skye clinging onto lucy from the back of her broom, because while she's the one who aimed her bludgers at him when they were little, he doesn't feel safe being off the ground with anybody else.

there are long nights when percy and oliver aren't home, out with friends or on a date, when lucy gathers skye and katie into her room and they set up beds on the floor so they can stargaze through the skylight.

all in all, their family might be different, but it's a family, and i think that's pretty cool.

it holds the places of many species different from earth that she's particular with, there some similarities but it's far more dangerous and it's beauty so captivating that the forest pulls you to it.

you fall in love with her.

but the most thing dangerous thing about pandora.. is you may grow to love her too much.

the energy she gives to bring life into this world, they have to one day give it back and remember her gratitude of that life.

the day she arrived pandora, selena sully met someone who showed her the wonders of the forest with their lifestyle. soon enough she fell in love with him. the mighty omatikaya warrior.

for this woman, she found love at last. a love so tender and special that made her feel alive, helped her understand the sacred rituals and passages to embrace the mother completely. the day he accepted her and mated with her to become one.. she believes she had it all.

their years together were a true dream she ever thought of when she was on earth with no hope and so lost in a dull moment. they were very much in love, learning more about themselves nobody knew about as they smiled which filled the hearts of the people.

the thought of almost losing her love is imprinted in her at the state he was in, refusing of admitting he's dying. he fought hard for his life so he can live life the fullest with her. eywa gave them a chance.

then..

a family that grew after the war was over, between na'vi and sky people, when she adopted the orphan boy, spider, who was too young to go to earth but she took him in as her own despite who his father was. soon enough, she became pregnant with twins. then her fourth and last child.

her and her mate were beyond of happiness with more children. moments like these are treasured deeply within their hearts singing the song cords, telling each one their story from their birth.

throughout the years on pandora, a forever home, becomes this force you'd want to protect and live in harmony for the rest of your life.

date nights. they're something she introduced to her mate for some time alone without the children and fall in love again.

but happiness always comes to an end.

they began to head back home until a new star appeared.. it wasn't a star, it could only mean one thing.

sky people are returning.

and their destruction.

tragedy struck when the rockets landed, destroying everything it burned and animals scurrying with their lives to safety.

she realized that their home were far from safe so another rivalry comes and a new war rages upon them. a war that brings deaths and loss.

a year later..

alone. mourning. lost.

nothing.

she felt nothing.

all her love and joy left with him. he's with the ancestors now.

selena fought and fought until her time come to an end. staying alive and strong for her children were her only promise she will keep her mate's memory alive. she promised him.

of course every energy is borrowed until you have to give it. the great balance of life is the way of these people. for their memories and spirit of eywa's children to live in within her to visit when they desperately need it.

losing someone is painful but you gain another love when you open your heart to someone else.

as time ticks and the bond grows.. love will tell.

for someone to help heal.

A fourth option???

I posited this to a discord earlier today and the general consensus was whatever works for the plot, but to keep aware of how Asian elements of Star Wars tend to be removed by white fandom often, and that adjusting Obi-Wan's name to something that seems suitable for how he looks can be erasure, in a way that's just as or more damaging than him being a white guy with a Japanese-inspired name.

TBH I feel like Yoda is very easy to write as an elderly Chinese man, and so "he was responsible for some of the Less White names given to seemingly white boys (actually just white-passing) in his lineage" is a relatively decent route to take? I know Obi-Wan Kenobi is intended to be Japanese (inspired by Samurai movies; GLucas initially wanted the character played by Toshiro Mifune), so I'd need to do some fiddling to figure out how to work Yoda, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan's names into a recognizable pattern.

If we maintain the adoption element of Jedi lineages, then Obi-Wan came into the lineage already named, and so who named him? Why?

And obviously there's the element of like… certain AUs benefit from certain approaches.

Writing a new age hippy Qui-Gon means Obi-Wan is a solid choice.

Going with some Legally Blonde-esque setting, where half your cast is trust fund kids, means Obadiah might make more sense.

A history AU where it's like... the Great Depression in a Jewish neighborhood in NYC, then Ben is going to suit him best. You also need to explain his accent, then, but I didn't think about that until after I'd shared the setting. That said, accents are easy. IDK he was orphaned and the headmistress of the orphanage was a Scottish expat, or it was a masking thing. Like he put on an English accent until it sounded natural because It Makes People Respect Him.

Anyway, @ossidae-passeridae, @catboydogma, and @petrichordiam all had some interesting takes but I feel like this is one of those posts where it's better for me to step back and let them add on than for me to try to organize what was said in a high-speed groupchat setting.

Phoenix's Family

I've stated before how I think it's interesting that in games with so many prevalent themes of family, Phoenix has no mention of having one, other than those who have adopted that kind of role like the Feys and Trucy. No whispers of parents or siblings when he got framed for murder or during any of his numerous trips to the hospital, not when he got disbarred or spent seven years likely in poverty.

Now, what could this mean? In my mind, either he's an orphan, which is a valid interpretation, or something happened that estranged him from them, likely before he got into college. Whatever it was, it was enough to traumatize him enough to never talk about them again.

We know how he reacts to trauma, especially ones that relate to his relationships. His whole deal is pushing down his memories and feelings until he almost forgets about them, or until they return to remind him of their existence. He refuses to talk about the things that hurt him and buries them so deeply that it's extremely hard to dig them back up.

We see this with Dahlia, the only person who would've known about her would've been Mia. And we see this with Mia herself, Phoenix walked in on her violently murdered body and he immediately represses his feelings to get her sister out of jail. When Edgeworth left his note and disappeared off of the face of the earth he refused to talk about him and attempted to do the same thing with him as he did with Dahlia.

So, who is to say that the only time this strategy of ignoring until it goes away and it doesn't bite him in the ass is how he dealt with his family? He never mentions them, he never thinks about them, and subconsciously he's always looking for people to help fill the void they left behind. Maybe he had a little sister which is why he seems to thrive when he has a silly girl sidekick.

To me, it would make sense if he was estranged from his family before or during college, as that could help explain why he's so desperate for someone to love him and extremely vulnerable to being manipulated. He focuses all his emotional energy on Dahlia and reuniting with Edgeworth because his own life is already incredibly destabilized and he's scrambling for some sense of control.

As for why his family estranged him, I don't actually have much of an idea, maybe they're homophobic and noticed that he's been sending letters to a boy over the course of years and that's just not very straight of him. There are all kinds of family issues that could cause such an overdramatic reaction though.

It seems more plausible with what we know about Phoenix that whatever happened with his family that it's bad enough that he goes no contact with them, rather than them getting killed off or giving him up for adoption bc you know he would do everything to find them if he wanted to. He lost his best friend from fourth grade and became a lawyer just to see him again, he definitely could be determined enough to find his birth parents if he wanted to. If they were dead, he's besties with multiple spirit mediums, he could say hi if he felt like it.

Anyway, that's all of my rambling for now and I could definitely have gotten things wrong, I am relatively new to AA and I really wouldn't consider myself an expert on the Lore lmao. In any case, I would love to hear other headcanons about his family, I think it's fun to think about lol. Maybe you have ideas about why Phoenix could've been estranged? idk I would love to talk about it, my asks are always open.

I was curious — what do you think were MVK’s reasons for adopting Edgeworth and later for attempting to frame him? Do you have thoughts on that? I know you have some specific feelings about him as a father figure and have a lot of insight into him as a character and I really struggle with figuring out what I think his reasoning was, especially when at the end of the fourth case it seems like he’s resented him for the bullet wound!! I think it’s really interesting

So… in this world I live in, where Manfred was not an abusive father, but still indisputably did all this shit to Miles in our final case of game 1… what happened to him? Here’s what I think.

Turnabout Goodbyes is very interesting because Manfred plans all of this to take place on the 15 year anniversary of the DL6 incident. But, that 15 year mark is also when the statue of limitations runs out. This means that, when that final 24 hours rolls over, DL6 legally never happened—the case can’t be re-opened, it’s done with.  The anime’s canon, the one I personally think is most nuanced and interesting, proposes that Manfred felt guilt over killing Gregory. Maybe not the act of killing this innocent man, but certainly over orphaning a young boy who had done no wrong. So, with that in mind, here’s what I think was going through Manfred’s head: I think, with the statute of limitations approaching and the guilt weighing on his mind, Manfred was simply unable to leave it alone. Part of him wanted to make this weight on his conscience stop, and another, stronger part of him didn’t want to rot alone in a jail cell. I think that, as the days ticked down to December 28th, 2016, this conflict tangled inside him until it became ugly and twisted and twice as vengeful, and Manfred did all he could think to do: he blamed Miles. He blamed Miles, and how he loved Miles, for forcing him to feel like a human. Miles, who was a small carbon copy of the man who ruined him. Miles, who never smiled and wailed in the dead of night when the terrors would take hold. Miles who blacked out during earthquakes growing up and insisted they take the stairs. In my own interpretation of events, Manfred witnessed this boy come into adolescence, and was forced every day to see the direct impact the murder of his father had on him. Like he says in the anime—"That is my karma." And I think it’s this guilt that lead him to the events of goodbyes. Unable to work up the courage to confess to what he’d done, he instead turned it on Miles. How dare you make me doubt? How dare you make me suffer? After all I’ve done for you, must I be reminded of all I took away? I’ll punish you like I punished everyone else.

the bullet thing is very interesting to me, but it's a thought that comes with its own line of questioning. how did manfred know miles shot him? miles would have had to have told him, or testified in court about it as a child. i don't think the latter is very likely, miles is implied pretty heavily to have been questioned on the stand but was very likely too traumatized to speak on much of anything. by his own admission he has dissociative amnesia about the whole thing and only began to recollect DL-6 with the onset of his nightmares and a LOT of time to process.

so i think the likely options are either miles confided in manfred about all that, OR manfred's 'you and your father are my curse' comment was only something he grew to resent in that very moment, not a secret pain he'd been seething about for 15 years.

obviously, the other option is way more interesting! i don't think it changes much of my opinion here, though. i think manfred has always had a very complex and double-edged relationship with miles. he is the last living legacy of a man that manfred hates, and he is also a traumatized orphan that manfred feels--is--responsible for. there is a lot of conflict living inside him when it comes to miles, i daresay moreso than anything he's ever regarded in his life.

What do you think about each notable member of the Ashford family? What do you like the most and the least about them? Any general thoughts?

Since there is hardly any information on the Ashford family as a whole, I will respond directly with my headcanons.

VERONICA ASHFORD

Great-granddaughter of Anne of Great Britain and the youngest of six children, she was always noted for her suspicious erudition and natural beauty. As a child, she enjoyed working in the office of her father, a Scottish businessman who reinvested his inherited Stuart fortune in coal mining. She assisted her father as a bookkeeper and served as his scientific advisor because of her innate talent for learning and her insatiable curiosity for knowledge. At the age of 16 she graduated with a degree in natural sciences, but never pursued a doctorate because she was more interested in business.

When her father was about to die, she conspired with her older brother Rupert to disinherit her other four siblings, taking advantage of her father's favouritism towards her and Rupert and the political circumstances of the time. Two brothers ended up in exile in continental Europe, a third murdered and a fourth disappeared. As agreed, Rupert shared half of the inheritance with Veronica. Veronica took over the factories her father managed in southern Scotland and decided to expand both her business and her fortune.

She built new factories in the north-east of England, north of the River Tyne, which spurred the urbanisation and industrialisation of the Northumberland coast from Newcastle to Berwick. As was common during the Victorian era, the labour force, which was hired for less than half a dollar today, consisted of poor peasant families exiled from the countryside and, especially, of children, mostly orphans who were employed from the streets and orphanages. Working conditions were deplorable and workers who died on the job were buried in mass graves in and around the factories. As today, Veronica prioritised maximum profit at minimum cost. This policy led to a steady growth of her own fortune, surpassing even that of her own family, the Campbells. Apart from industry, Veronica was involved in the colonisation of the East Indies, particularly India and Indochina, where she owned numerous plantations and ran her own company for the recruitment and shipping of slaves in Asia.

These ventures helped to strengthen her political influence, largely inherited from her royal ancestry, and to finance scientific projects and expeditions. It was the latter that made her popular in academic circles, and she became an honorary member of the Royal Society for the Advancement of Natural Science in London. She also ended up becoming an advisor and right-hand woman to Victoria I, a position that ennobled her. Although she aspired to be a duchess like her father, she was eventually granted the title of countess to avoid dynastic conflict with the Crown. She chose Ashford as the name of her title in honour of the village of the same name in Cornwall where she used to summer with her family. The title of Ashford was also adopted as her surname, and she became known as Ashford-Campbell-Douglas-Stuart, or simply Ashford. She chose Northumberland as her home and had his manor house, Ashford Hall, built there.

She married a distant cousin for convenience and had an only son, Stanley, born of a passionate affair with a Prussian general. Her personality was narcissistic and controlling, apathetic to the suffering of those she did not consider part of her social class, but loving and devoted to her family and close friends.

She died of natural causes in 1900.

STANLEY ASHFORD

Stanley was rather continuist with the economic and political line established by Veronica, but also opportunistic. When the First World War broke out, he turned his factories over to the production of armaments and munitions. With the progressive emergence of the United States as a power, he opened new industrial businesses in the country, becoming well known among the American upper class.

With the abolition of slavery and the improvement of working conditions, Stanley was one of the few businessmen in the UK who still clung to the old practices of the Industrial Revolution, such as child labour. Stanley continued to promote child labour in his factories until the Prime Minister sent him a note warning him that it was no longer socially acceptable. For this reason, Stanley became a rather unpopular figure in Northumberland, being characterised as a bogeyman who abducted children to lock them up forever in his factories. To clean up his image, he began investing in charities and negotiating with the workers' unions.

Stanley was noted for his fascination with the occult sciences. In a hidden room at Ashford Hall, he began to keep all sorts of esoteric trinkets and books. His favourite activity was psychophonies, which he practised assiduously, especially after the death of Veronica, with whom he claimed to contact from beyond the grave.

In politics, he was sympathetic to official positions after rejecting the creation of Northern Ireland, which led to his expulsion from the House of Lords, although he later regained his seat.

He married a Scottish Highlander and had twins, Thomas and Arthur. His personality was more moderate than Veronica's, although he was always brusque and uncompromising.

He died during the 1920s.

THOMAS ASHFORD

His untimely death meant that he was barely able to function as head of the family. Arthur's older brother, his brief life was marked by alcohol and prostitution. His addiction to alcohol began when he was very young, mainly because of social pressure and later because of his personal problems, mostly due to his constant affairs with prostitutes.

Apart from his bad life, he was very much loved by Stanley and his brother Arthur, with whom he always maintained a close friendship. Like his grandmother and father, Thomas only obtained a university degree, and quickly went into the family business. Politically, he was a forerunner of Scottish nationalism and Jacobism, both of which he espoused in his numerous pamphlets and works written under pseudonyms. In one letter he wrote that the Ashfords were Scots living in England.

Although he was betrothed, he never married, as he died before formalising his marriage and having children. He was noted for his cheerful and joking personality.

He died of liver cancer in the 1930s.

ARTHUR ASHFORD

After his brother's untimely death, he assumed his position as head of the family. From an early age, he stood out as a bookworm. His main interests were anthropology, sociology and history, from which he graduated. Moreover, Arthur was the first Earl Ashford to be awarded a doctorate with honours under the modern university system. He was a university lecturer and during the World Wars worked as a propagandist in the service of the British government. He wrote several books related to propaganda and social control through culture or ideology. Unlike his predecessors, he did not specialise in the natural sciences and business, although he must have run the family enterprises

He was a highly respected and well-known scholar, although he was also considered an obscure figure because of his misanthropic view of the human species and his introverted and discreet personality. He married a Welsh woman and had two sons, George and Edward. George would end up distancing himself from the family due to problems of conscience to the point of being disinherited by his own father, Arthur. Edward continued with his family and quickly became known for his scientific talents. Arthur and Edward became inseparable, although Edward would eventually take a completely different path from his father by turning to the natural sciences. Politically, Arthur abandoned the nationalist and Jacobite line of his twin brother Thomas for his loyalty to the British Crown.

He died in 1959 of liver cancer.

EDWARD ASHFORD

After becoming an Earl following Arthur's death, Edward focused on research and capitalising on his research. For this reason, he partnered with Oswell E. Spencer and funded the discovery of the Progenitor virus. He would later synthesise the first variant of the Progenitor virus: the Tyrant virus. Like his father, he was a famed and highly respected scholar with wide national and international political influence through his many contacts in the United Kingdom and the United States. Although conservative, his stance was tempered by his concern about nuclear war between the two hegemonic blocs. Apart from his research, he aspired to bolster his family's political and economic status.

He had an older brother, George, from whom he separated, although he always maintained a cordial relationship with him. He married a Dutch scientist, Elizabeth, whom he met in Canada. They had one child, Alexander, whom he always supported, even when he came up with the CODE project: Veronica. His personality was polite and professional, more optimistic than his father's and even idealistic.

He died in 1968 in an accident with the Progenitor virus.

ALEXANDER ASHFORD

After the unexpected death of his father, he took over the baton, becoming president of Umbrella and biological father of the two children that resulted from the CODE project: Veronica. Initially, he did not think they would be his biological children, but to avoid a confrontation with their mother and legal problems, he had no choice but to become involved in their conception himself.

The son of a British father and a Dutch mother, Alexander has both nationalities and is bilingual in English and Dutch. He was always very close to his father, whom he considered his role model. However, he was never his equal, a fact that triggers his insecurity and depressive tendencies. He hates George for abandoning his family. Unlike Edward, who is open and outgoing, Alexander is withdrawn, inexpressive and not given to establishing emotional bonds except with his closest friends or partners.

Luxa is the first orphan he adopts ‘even as a baby she was pushy’. She’s an acrobat who has strong opinions and is angry all the time, wanting to kill and fight and hit rather than talk. She witnessed her parents deaths and wants to hurt all rats because of it. Ripred has to keep her controlled. 

Gregor is the second child ripred adopts/kidnaps. Gregor actually has parents, unlike Luxa, but his dad is severely ill and as much as she tries his mom cannot take care of him. The first time he meets ripred he wants to kill him but the two bond and Gregor understands him well. Then as their relationship progresses, Gregor wants to kill him. Then Gregor ‘dies’ and ripred is lost. But then Gregor lives again and yeah. 

The third child ripred adopts is aurora. She’s quiet and she’s observant and she doesn’t sleep and most of all she’s only there for ripreds first child. She basically parents ripred herself sometimes because no one else will. Ripred hates her because he wishes she were someone else, but he also can’t live without her. Literally. 

The fourth child ripred adopts is Howard. Howard is sassy and doesn’t listen almost as little as Luxa and Gregor and ripred doesn’t keep him for long but he’s still a part of the family and ripred still loves and watches out for him. 

The last kid ripred adopts is Ares and he’s angry and hurting and lost his (mother) bond and ares wants to hurt everyone but he also grows emotionally attached to Luxa and bonds with Gregor and honestly ripred doesn’t know what to do because ares is like a mini version of him and Gregor is too and he’s like ‘ahhhh!’ 

And Vikus is just watching this all go down going ‘Jesus fucking Christ ripred how many kids are you gonna adopt/kidnap and also please give me my granddaughter back’ and ripred just hisses and goes ‘no she’s in love with my son so she’s mine now’

You remember that thanks to the ritual that took place in the fourth year, Harry and Voldemort share the same blood? I'll skip the ridiculous part where Harry Potter returned to the Dursleys every summer for bloody wards that technically shouldn't work because Voldemort might touch him. Hmm-hmm, so those who have read “The Cursed Child” should know about Delphi. Delphi is the daughter of Voldemort and Bellatrix. But if Voldemort and Harry Potter share the same blood, then doesn't that mean that Delphi is also Harry's daughter? I don't know, but that's what the AU is all about. Since Voldemort and Harry have the same blood, as well as a soul (at the time of conception, Harry was a Horcrux. Poor Harry, if he felt Voldemort’s anger, then he probably could have had an orgasm... Poor guy) , then Delphi is his daughter. After the victory over Voldemort, raids began on the estates of the victims, in one of which a girl was found. The Aurors were trying to find out who the girl's parents were to pass on to the next of kin, causing the inheritance test to display the name Harry. Since the child was born under unusual circumstances, he is offered to give up the child, but, being a lonely orphan who always wanted a family, he decides to adopt the girl by blood so that she becomes a full member of the Potter family. (Depending on your choice, Sirius could have adopted Harry by blood. Maybe the blood will fix his nest on his head). So he lives with his daughter in Grimmauld Place. He studies the Black library, deals with artifacts and leads a reclusive lifestyle. He's not dating Ginny because the choice was between a relationship and a child (understandable considering WHO the child's other parents are. She's also supposed to look like Tom Riddle, but with Harry's green eyes. It doesn't matter if she was born with those eyes , or they appeared after blood adoption). After some time, say 5 years, he decides to go out with his daughter, but someone leaks information about her origin, and the public demands the death of Voldemort’s offspring. So Harry Potter escapes from Britain and travels for a year or two. Although he likes to explore the world, because of his pursuers he cannot settle anywhere, which makes him sad, because he wants to give his daughter a HOME.So, he decides to go to a place where no one will know or touch them - the past. He might have stumbled upon (developed) a ritual (artifact) that would send them back in time. Thus, they find themselves in the 50s, where they try to organize their lives. Variant of events:

1. Harry Potter inherits the Peverell Lordship and lives a quiet life until his daughter turns eleven and goes to Hogwarts, after which Tom Riddle is reported about a child similar to him, who, as a result of an incident, is revealed to be a Parselmouth. He is very interested in the supposed new heir, and then in his very handsome father. And further as you wish. It's a funny life as Tom tries to catch Harry's attention after a meeting in the Wizengamot (since he accepted the Lordship, he intends to make the Wizarding British government better. Considering that his daughter has started school, he has time to do this, because he used to be too busy).

2. Harry Potter does not have any lordships, but he has money. He opens a cafe (I believe Harry Potter is a good cook) in Diagon Alley. One day he let his daughter go with her friends, but they were kidnapped. The auction featured many creatures, as well as children. The Death Eaters were about to raid this place, as the place belonged to a hostile group. Harry Potter found out that his daughter was missing and rushed in. Tom, seeing him, asks one of the followers who it is, but no one knows. Tom continues to watch the delightful stranger and admires his magic. Hearing a scream, they see a group of children behind the Horned Snake, which has escaped from its cage. The snake is about to attack, but freezes when it hears the girl's hiss. In one second, the snake turns around and swallows the overseer. Tom, surprised, looks at the baby Parselmouth, who is essentially a small female version of himself, except for the eyes. Eyes the color of a killing curse to match those of a handsome stranger. This story is the beginning of a strange relationship between the Dark Lord and a small family of time travelers. I hope someone takes advantage of this idea and writes fanfiction.
