Headcanon that Thomas Wayne was an absolute POWERHOUSE in the kitchen. That guy could make air taste like paradise. Alfred, the absolute IMPOSTER, uses his recipes to impress the bat kids.

Of course a Sicilian New Jersian who smoked 2 packs a week came up with Jason’s favorite marinara sauce and not a goddam British guy who’s favorite meal is tea and biscuits.

The batkids find a picture of tiny Bruce with a little chef hat on his dad’s arm, face full of marinara sauce, half asleep cause the kitchen’s so warm and smells like pure Nirvana

However, Bruce, like Alfred, had no idea about flavor, cause he was more than adamant about dining at Maroni’s restaurant.

Thomas: I can make you a fresh lasagne at home

Bruce: but this lasagna comes with a toy :/

THOMAS DEMAND au Jeu de Paume, Le bégaiement de l’histoire

L’artiste allemand reproduit en papier des images issues de la presse. Ses clichés, à la frontière de la fiction et de la réalité, interrogent le pouvoir de l’image.

Ce casier n’est pas un casier, ce n’est qu’un papier peint hyper réaliste, cet escalier n’est pas un escalier c’est une photo d’un faux escalier, qu’on penserait qu’il existant de façon décorative... Depuis le milieu des années 1990, le photographe allemand Thomas Demand,  trouble le monde de la photographie avec ses vraies fausses images. 

Elève indiscipliné, il a pris à rebours l’enseignement de ses professeurs de l’académie de Düsseldorf, Bernd et Hilla Becher, connus pour leurs austères portraits de châteaux d’eau. « L’objectivité, je l’ai jetée par-dessus bord, dit-il tout sourire. 

Je suis artiste, pas documentariste ! » Son travail, néanmoins, se situe dans cette fragile articulation entre réalité et fiction. Les photos de Demand sont le fruit d’un patient travail de construction. Le procédé n’a pas varié en vingt ans.

A partir d’images d’archives de journaux, il réalise d’abord une maquette en papier et en carton – grandeur nature – d’un lieu dénué de présence humaine, et généralement chargé d’histoire. Au catalogue : l’atelier de Matisse, la salle de contrôle de la centrale de Fukushima, le bunker d’Hitler, le tunnel du pont de l’Alma fatal à Lady Di, mais aussi des « non lieux » familiers, des bureaux froids et anonymes qui rappellent les entreprises déshumanisées. Pour accentuer la vraisemblance du décor, l’artiste peaufine l’éclairage. Passée la prise de vue, la maquette si soigneusement confectionnée pendant deux à trois semaines est immédiatement détruite.

Est-ce du vrai ou du faux ? L’illusion est quasi parfaite. Si Thomas Demand aime ainsi instiller le doute, c’est que lui-même se méfie d’un média si souvent utilisé comme arme de propagande. « L’art doit vous rendre conscient que ce que vous voyez est toujours une construction, professe-t-il. 

La photographie n’est pas une réalité, mais une représentation qu’il faut déchiffrer. » Et de poursuivre : « Vous devez apprendre à douter de tout. Ce que représente une photo compte moins que la source. Qui vous l’envoie ? Dans quel but ? Voilà les bonnes questions ! » 

Une hygiène du regard précieuse à l’ère des fake news et des photomontages.

Photographs can seem convincingly real or strangely artificial. The work of German photographer Thomas Demand achieves a disquieting balance between the two. Born in 1964, Demand began as a sculptor and took up photography to record his ephemeral paper constructions. In 1993 he turned the tables, henceforth making constructions for the sole purpose of photographing them. Demand begins with a preexisting image culled from the media, usually of a political event, which he translates into a life-size model made of colored paper and cardboard. His handcrafted facsimiles of architectural spaces and natural environments are built in the image of other images. Thus, his photographs are triply removed from the scenes or objects they purport to depict. Once they have been photographed, the models are destroyed. Demand recently began to make 35mm films, setting his cinematic still images in motion. Combining craftsmanship and conceptualism in equal parts, Demand pushes the medium of photography toward uncharted frontiers. His originality has won him recognition as one of the most innovative artists of his generation.
