the age-old discussion as to whether or not ben barnes was poor casting for dorian gray is incredibly funny to me like yes we know that dorian is supposed to look like an innocent blond cherub instead of a dark luciferian daddy long leg prince of sin because literature but it all comes down nitpicking in the end because i’m just sure that oscar wilde the man himself would have been salivating over ben every waking minute of his damn life if he were here

The Syriac Church of the East is the form of Christianity that's most influenced by the Gospel of Thomas. The Gospel of Thomas is actually quoted in many writings from this School of Saint Thomas, considered to be the founding Apostle. Though not part of their canon of scripture these days, as the Syriac church became part of Orthodoxy, yet the influence of the Gospel of Thomas is stronger in the Syriac east than in any other Christian tradition.

#OTD in 1916 – Birth of actor, Gregory Peck, in La Jolla, California.
Gregory Peck was born in La Jolla, California. One of the world’s most popular film stars from the 1940s to the 1960s, Peck continued to play major film roles until the late 1970s. Catherine Ashe, the paternal grandmother of Gregory Peck, who emigrated to the United States in the 19th century was a relative of the Kerry patriot, Thomas Ashe, who took part in the 1916 Rising and died while on…

Heinrich the Pride of the DR
Dived into my archives and I present you this fast lad. This piece is inspired by an advertisement for the Rhinegold service. And the thing is 18 201 hauled those stunning looking beige and purple coaches. But he was a rarely seen on East German rails because he often hauled coaches for test runs. Because that was his purpose. That’s why most of his pictures are of him in preservation. Also he has a Giesl ejector, but in a sort of case to be proportionate to his size. The silver ring was a later addition.

during his evangelistic activity in india in the first century, thomas the apostle is said to have founded "seven and a half" churches. three currently claim the status of having been the "half church". they are:
st mary's orthodox church, also known as the 'royal church', in thiruvithamkode, tamil nadu. it claims to be the world's oldest functioning church that hasn't been reconstructed, though the 'main' parts of the structure were built between the 17th-20th centuries. today, it's under the jurisdiction of the malankara orthodox syrian church. former church primate baselios marthoma didymos I proclaimed the site as an international st. thomas pilgrim center.
the hilltop church in malayattoor, kerala. local tradition goes that, facing hostile natives in the area, st. thomas fled to a hilltop, where he remained in prayer. there, he left a cross and a footprint on a nearby rock. these were later found and a shrine was built in their place. today, it's under the jurisdiction of the syro-malabar catholic church, and a part of the larger shrine on the hilltop dedicated to st. thomas. (a much larger church is located nearby). the vatican declared it an international shrine and a pilgrimage up the hill takes place annually after lent.
st george's church in aruvithura, kerala. the first edifice of the church was made in the manner of a hindu temple. when one of the seven churches was destroyed, several of its congregants migrated to aruvithura with a statue of st. george, hence this church's dedication. it's since been rebuilt, including a larger expansion in the 16th century. today, it's a parish of the syro-malabar catholic church.

Good afternoon fellow Sudrians. This month certainly has proven to be one of the busiest times 2024 has seen so far. But, in order to establish order in this chaotic season, I refer you to a sacred moment in the classic era of our religiously watched show. More specifically: All At Sea. As Unlucky Tug said, “this episode is the epitome of what the classic series did best; exploring new sides of the characters that were never fully present in the books.”
Taking place during the summer of 1966, duck and Percy are seen working at the Harbor on what will soon be the little western. Duck begins daydreaming about what it would be like to visit lands beyond the Horizon. Throughout the course of the episode, he learns a pretty grand moral. Y’all know what it is by now so I won’t reiterate. But I have to say: this is, by far, One of my favorite episodes of season three hands-down. No doubt it’s probably your favorite as well. So when you need a moment of clarity, look no further than the season three episode: All at Sea.

I thought it might be fun to list all the classic lit I’ve read so people can ask me questions about them, if they want because I need to talk more about classic literature.
Note: I’ve defined “classic lit” as “prose or epic poetry published before 1970” just because that made sense to me (so no plays by Willy Shakes even though I have read a fair bit of Shakespeare).
Also, please tell me about any books you’ve read (don’t have to be classics) so I can ask you about them <3

'The Honourable East India Iron Steam Ship Nemesis, Lieut. W.H. Hall, R.N. Commander, with boats of Sulphur, Calliope, Larne and Starling destroying the Chinese war junks, in Anson's Bay, Jany 7th 1841', NMM Collection.
Henry TD Le Vesconte, not yet a lieutenant, was aboard Calliope and wrote a long letter to his father dated "Calliope in Canton River March 1841." Here is Nemesis Iron Steam Vessell in his handwriting from that letter, although the crosswriting makes it hard to see (Provincial Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador).
