Manga, Comics, Graphic Novels
Safe Area Goražde by Joe Sacco
The Way of the House-Husband, vol. 1 by Kousuke Oono
SAGA vol. 1-6 by Fiona Staples and Brian K Vaughan
Top of the Top:
Born a Crime was probably my favourite non ficition, and most of that probably is due to Trevor Noah's narration skills. It was very entertaining and heartfelt.
Less uplifting but just as gripping in a different way was Empire of Pain. Excellent book that went deep into the why and what and hows of Purdue Pharma. Anger inducing.
Lazarus Heist is great and available as a podcast. The book is more or less the podcast word for word.
Fictionwise: I read Trust at the start of the year and it was a bit soon to declare as favourite of the year, but it's stil made the final cut. Just very imaginative and intriguing. Just my kind of MetaFiction. Clever without being cleverclever.
Demon Copperhead I read right off the back of Empire of Pain so maybe that coloured my experience. I've not read any Dickens so loads of references no doubt flew past me, but the language was acrobatic and zingy. I loved it.
Wrapped up the year on a high with North Woods. That was so unexpected and entertaining. Again with the playful language, memorable characters and a unique approach to tying all the various stories together. One that sticks in the mind and makes the writer in me wonder how I can replicate his style (with my own personal twist of course.)

Chris Snow makes the most of each and every moment of his life. In the face of ALS, which has plagued him for three years, he has made that positive decision.
So a trip to Tampa on Tuesday evening to present an NHL award elicits the same level of excitement that the Calgary Flames assistant GM has brought to every situation since his diagnosis in 2019.
Snow is referring to the 2022 NHL Awards presenters, who are individuals whose stories of resilience have moved and inspired the hockey community this season.
Popvici, a Seattle Krakens fan, who rose to fame after pointing out a cancerous mole on Vancouver Canucks assistant equipment manager Red Hamilton's neck, will be among them. Popovici and Hamilton will reunite on the show.
Milton Academy hockey player Jake Thibeault, who was paralyzed by an injury in September 2021, emergency backup goalie Thomas Hodges, who overcame blindness in one eye to play in a game for the Anaheim Ducks this season, and Martin Lafleur, the son of the late Guy Lafleur, will also be honoured.
Then there’s Snow, who, on Friday, tweeted: “It was 3 years ago today that I was told I had ALS, 12 months to live and to do what brings me joy. I’ll walk on stage live on @espn and @Sportsnet on Tuesday night, 40 spinal infusions later, to present at the NHL Awards show. I will feel as vibrant as I have ever felt.”
The trip is, in some ways, a celebration of how far he’s come since that diagnosis. So bring on the opportunity to present an award Tuesday evening, even if it is not to one of his own players.
While Jacob Markstrom is a finalist for the Vezina Trophy as the best goaltender, all indications are that Snow will be the one to announce the winner of the James Norris Memorial Trophy for best defenceman on Tuesday night.
Snow will present the award to Roman Josi of the Predators, Makar of the Avalanche or Hedman of the Lightning.
Three years ago, it was Giordano. During a practice run of the event on Tuesday, he will learn more about his responsibilities.
The Snows spent Monday night at the ballpark in Tampa, with Kelsie, Cohen and Willa, watching a New York Yankees-Tampa Bay Rays MLB game.
Snow, a former Boston Globe reporter who covered the Red Sox, is a diehard baseball fan, so that should be entertaining as well.
Snow, on the other hand, embraces pretty much every moment that is available to him, insisting that “the choice is to be down and fade away or you lean into it. Is it always straightforward? No. There is, however, a choice.”
ALS is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, resulting in muscle control loss.

Note: So I wasn’t sure whether or not I was going to list this since I’m not sure exactly what it is. After a discussion with @s1ndle I was not going to post it. I found it with concept art that was listed as being Eric Hedman’s. We figured that this concept art was accidentally included but was actually from another game. However, after looking into Thomas Denmark’s background as a concept artist it looks like he did indeed work on The Sims: Unleashed in 2002. I think he may have done the character concepts for Miss Lucille and the other French Quarter (Old Town) NPCs.
I really don’t have any idea what these concepts would be for though. My best guess is that the French Quarter region was originally going to have more period specific/French Quarter themed NPCs such as W.C. Friendly.
Thomas Denmark went on to be the lead artist for Disney’s Tangled in 2010 which means that The Sims now has ties to both Disney and Pixar.

his mom moved to michigan with him when he went to the ntdp
his coach made him sing in front of his whole ntdp team at the beginning their u17 year (he sang the jersey boys)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Owen Power, #22:
Tumblr media
from mississauga, ontario
born november 22nd 2002
played for the chicago steel in the ushl before coming to umich
in the 2019-20 season he was the USHL defenseman of the year and he led the league's defensemen in scoring with 40 points. he was named to the ushl first-team all-star, the ushl All-Rookie Team in 2018-19 with 28 points in 58 games.
"kid canada," youngest player to ever play for canada at the world championships
at 6'5, 214 lb he is, as tsn like to say "a big boy"
was a preseason all-big ten honourable mention, was fourth in the big ten in defenseman scoring, seventh in the big ten in freshman scoring, 2nd in the nation in freshman defenseman points per game and had a three-point (2 goals) game in his collegiate debut (as a defenceman).
was on the all-big ten second team, was a unanimous selection on the big ten all-freshman team, was a finalist for big ten freshmen of the year, was nominated for the hobey baker, was college hockey news rookie of the year, and was on the college hockey news all-rookie team
is supposed to go first overall
he has an absolute rocket of a shot, a really good stickhandler, and a really good skater
fun facts:
used to play lacrosse during the summer when he was younger, won a national championship
he likes to play basketball, so here's a video of him and the rest of the umich team playing (he airballed it and it was vv funny)

celebrity crush is selena gomez
his nickname is the big dog
was supposed to go to the ojhl but chose to go play in the ushl when the steel drafted him
takes his chicken wings with barbecue and nothing else
prefer doing school online
the first thing he wants to do next season is watch a football game at the big house
his favourite player to watch right is victor hedman (he also thinks that hedman is the best defenceman in the world rn)
had a rink in his backyard and that's how he fell in love with hockey
he would pretend to be crosby while on that backyard rink (owen arent you supposed to be a defenceman lmao)
not a big tv/movie guy, he mostly just watch's sports during his downtime (why am i not surprised)
he like to golf but is "not very good" (his handicap is a 10 which is appenrently good so)
if he weren't a hockey player he would be a lacross player
lebron is the athlete he dislikes the most
he doesn't say (chirp) much on the ice (once again i am not surprised lmao)
if matty and him got the chance to play each other at worlds (they didn't cause matty was scratched the first time and injured the 2nd) someone would have gotten whacked in the leg/foot but nobody would have really said anything
Tumblr media Tumblr media
basically Michigan could very easily have 2 players picked in the top 5 and 3 players picked in the top 10. and if you haven't realised how special that class is, they also have thomas bordeleau and brendan brisson in it, which means that they're soon gonna have 4 first rounders in one class, and 6 nhl draft picks. (for context a lot of teams don't even have 6 drafted players on the entire roster)

As I was watching one of the games the other day I was wondering what players had been on certain teams for a long time, so I decided to look it up and compile some of that info here. Here is a list of the three longest-tenured players on every current playoff team’s roster (except Vegas because the team is only three years old). Please note that I organized this by the date that player made their NHL debut with the team, not how long they’ve been in the team’s system (because that would make this list a lot different). Bold names are the team’s captain, and italicized names are goalies. Please share this around, check out who on your team has been around the longest!
Arizona Coyotes
Oliver Ekman-Larsson (10/9/2010)

2019 All-Star Game Rosters 2.0
I didn’t like the 2019 ASG rosters so I made my own. I stuck with all of the rules so it still won’t make everyone happy but imo these are better than the originals (all of the changes are italicized):
METRO DIVISION F - Sebastian Aho (CAR) F (via last man in vote) - Nicklas Backstrom F - Mat Barzal (NYI) F - Sidney Crosby (PIT) F - Claude Giroux (PHI) (C) F - Taylor Hall (NJD) F - Cam Atkinson (CBJ) Artemi Panarin (CBJ)
D - John Carlson (WSH) D - Seth Jones (CBJ) Kris Letang (PIT)
G - Braden Holtby (WSH) G - Henrik Lundqvist (NYR)
ATLANTIC DIVISION F - John Tavares (TBL) Aleksander Barkov (FLA) F - Steven Stamkos (TBL) Max Domi (MTL) F - Nikita Kucherov (TBL) F - Auston Matthews (TOR) (C) F - David Pastrnak (BOS) F - Jack Eichel (BUF) Jeff Skinner (BUF)
D - Thomas Chabot (OTT) D - Keith Yandle (FLA) Morgan Rielly (TOR)
G - Jimmy Howard (DET) G - Carey Price (MTL) Andrei Vasilevksy (TBL)
Last man in vote, take your pick lol - Jack Eichel (BUF), Brad Marchand (BOS), Mitch Marner (TOR), Brayden Point (TBL), Steven Stamkos (TBL), John Tavares (TOR), Victor Hedman (TBL), Shea Weber (MTL), Frederick Anderson (TOR)
CENTRAL DIVISION F - Patrick Kane (CHI) F (via last man in vote) - Patrik Laine (WPG) F - Nathan MacKinnon (COL) (C) F - Ryan O-Reilly (STL) F - Blake Wheeler (WPG) Zach Parise (MIN) F - Mikko Rantanen (COL) F - Mark Scheifele (WPG)
D - Miro Heiskanen (DAL) D - Roman Josi (NSH)
G - Devan Dubnyk (MIN) Ben Bishop (DAL) G - Pekka Rinne (NSH)
PACIFIC DIVISION F - Leon Draisaitl (EDM) F - Johnny Gaudreau (CGY) F - Clayton Keller (ARI) F - Connor McDavid (EDM) (C) F - Joe Pavelski (SJS) Sean Monahan (CGY) F - Elias Petterson (VAN)
D - Brent Burns (SJS) D - Drew Doughty (LAK) D - Erik Karlsson (SJS) D (via last man in vote) - Erik Karlsson (SJS) or Mark Giordano (CGY)
G - Marc-Andre Fleury (VGK) G - John Gibson (ANA)
I’ve always had an issue with the way the NHL ASG rosters are chosen and this year really uhhhhh demonstrated the problems with that process. there is truly no way to make everyone happy BUT I thought I would try my hand at building my own rosters for each division while still following the rules and tbh I’m pleased with these results.
also plz note that you could build a whole other team with the last man in options for the Atlantic. damn that division is stacked.
