The Whumper stands directly in front of the angry Whumpee, whose arms are being held back by the Whumper’s henchmen. The Whumpee struggles but can’t get free, only stopping their struggles when the Whumper’s finger reaches out and touches their chest. The touch starts as a poke, but their hand softens and they lay their palm against the Whumpee’s drenched shirt. They both pause as the Whumpee’s breath and racing heartbeat become fully known by the Whumper. “I don’t pick ones with no fight,” the Whumper says flatly. “Just like I don’t pick ones with nothing to lose.” Being referred to as one of many disgusts the Whumpee, enough to make them spit at the Whumper. The Whumper doesn’t react except to nod at one of the henchman, who takes one of the Whumpee’s arms and twists it at an unnatural angle, prompting the Whumpee to cry out. “Now I’m no sports fan, but what would they call this one if done to completion?” the Whumper asks over the Whumpee’s pained noises. “A career-ender?” The henchman doesn’t let up. The Whumper leans over until they meet the eyes of the Whumpee. They wait to speak until the Whumpee can find a way to be quiet through the pain. “You know me by now. I tend to throw my fish back in the water when I’m done, but you should also know I can and will end it all before I do.” The Whumper nods to the henchman who releases the Whumpee’s arm, and both let the Whumpee fall to the ground to recover. “Whatever could I want with someone that has a lot of fight and something to lose?” the Whumper asks aloud. The Whumpee slowly lifts themselves up and shakily wipes an arm across their sweaty face. They let out a long breath as they look up at their captors, “I think I can do that math.”
