I’ve had these groovy souvenir tin trays for a long time, but could never figure out how to best use them. Today, in my attempt to get better about just using the tins and not waiting for the “perfect” design, I decided to make simple large circle earrings. Which are cool, but lead to the problem of not knowing how to best pair them. (Are you sensing a theme?) Anyway, it occurred to me that I could list them as a mix and match sort of thing. Each octagonal tray has a bountiful fruit border and a yummy holiday sweet with its recipe's ingredients at center. The three recipes are: Blueberry-Orange Nut Bread, Buche de Noel, and Plum Pudding. Fundusmundus presents vivid vibrant vintage tin try made in Yugoslavia by Saturnus company. Saturnus brand was founded in 1921 in Yugoslavia. The first Saturnus tin boxes were already more than simply primary packaging for diverse food, cosmetic, chemical and other products. Their diverse shapes and lively graphical image directly addressed the consumer. Form and other visible characteristics were important with kitchen products as well as toys, additional products and bicycle equipment. Several dozen Yugoslavian Oskars for packaging prove that Saturnus dedicated a lot of attention to packaging design.

Sasa Tray Collection

We have been working on designing a collection of trays for Japanese Manufacturer specializing in tin casting. These trays are made with traditional making method - sand casting.

Sasa is inspired by the flow and reflection of an ocean surface where rolling valleys are used for serving organic matters, and holding inorganic accessories and small objects. Sasa Trays can be tiled crosswise and lengthwise to create an infinite wavy landscape with silvery reflective effect.

Sasa is casted from 100% tin metal by traditional craftsmen of Toyama Prefecture. Sasa brings dynamic force of ocean waves, warmth of the sun and fragrance of the ocean breeze into our everyday lives.

Sasaは複数のくぼみを要した多様性ある盛器。水面の漣のように常に形や用途が変化できることをイメージし、食品等の盛り付け、日ごろ使うアクセサリーや小物置きなど個々の用途に合わせて使うことができる。単体としては不規則な形状でありながらタイル状に縦横に並べることで無限の表現ができる。

富山県の鋳造職人により純度100％の錫で製造されたSasaは大海原の波、その表面に眩しい太陽が当たりキラキラと、そして潮風の香りを思い起こす。常に流動的に動くダイナミックな自然を日常の生活に用いていただきたい。
