Wandering Worlds
DickKory | Core Four Centric | Cannon Divergence | Longfic
Summary:
Dick Grayson is dead. His life taken by his own brother. The Abel to Jason’s Cain. Consumed by grief, Rachel gives in to despair, losing control, a portal opens, but from it no destroyer of words come through. Instead a man who looks just like him, how can he be?
---------------
*90's infomencial voice* Tired of Dick Grayson getting no character growth every season? Can't stand the lack of development? The fact that we barely got any DickKory content since season one? I have just what you need! *normal voice* Okay, so in this fic Dick died, and Rachel pulled an alternative version of him from a dying universe, a version of him that will not take his family, Kory and his life for granted, he's not perfect, but he's doing his best.
————————————–
Chapter Twenty – Like moonlight leaves with the dawn
Her back hit the soft pillows and Kory’s whimper was muffled by his relentless mouth, his hard strokes barely gave her any chance to think and that was exactly what she needed. Even though life had been more than easy, it had been better than she could have even been able to dream possible, still… Sometimes, she feared.
That morning, he woke her up with a frightened expression, telling her she had been screaming in Tamaranean. And, despite his continuous claims of speaking the language very little – which involuntarily already broke a little of their little fantasy since it was not her the one who taught him – he repeated concerning pieces of what she had said in her nightmare state with knowing ease.
“I dreamed that I called you because there was a Gordanian outside the tower, but you said that you couldn’t see any. But it was right there. You and the children wouldn’t believe me, and tried to show me there was nothing, I told you to stay by me, but you all left anyway. The Gordanian was there like I said and killed all of you.”
“Lover,” he called, so much care in those warm brown eyes, “that was just a dream.”
“I know... It’s silly, I know… Will you hold me anyway?”
One thing led to another and what began with him tenderly holding her after a nightmare became a serious fucking session, as she snuggled closer and her bottom became acquainted with his morning erection, an invite to a highway of pleasure leading to oblivion that she didn’t see any reason to decline. It took him no time to get hold of her intentions and slide his calloused hand over her hip, massaging its way across her tummy to her moistening cunt, helping it to get wetter with his careful playing.

X’hal he was good at that! She could feel his warm, strong chest against her back, moving with her, his hot breath against her neck was almost too much, and never not enough. Kory reached behind, her mouth jealous of the open mouth kisses her shoulders were getting, but then his hand was gone from where she needed him the most to pull her hair aside, sucking the skin of the nape of her neck.
“Touch yourself,” he asked against her ear.
Kory gasped and turned her head back to look at him only to face indubious desire in his eyes. She let go of the piece of duvet she was holding for dear life to do as he pleaded hissing as her fingers touched her sensitive skin and pushing her butt firmer against his hard on. He helped by massaging her hip, pulling her underwear down as she worked.
“Look at me,” the ordered as she threatened to close her eyes in pleasure, mouth open agape as the sensation build. Eyes locked to her face, he alternated between rocking against her, spreading small kisses on her shoulders and stroking her round butt. “Koriand’r,” he warned as she blinked a little too long for his liking and as she didn’t obey because the pleasure was reaching breaking point, he slid one hand under her thigh, pushing her hand away while he lift her, rearranged her body on her bed, under him. Kory was so startled at the change that she let out a high pitched scream making him chuckle.
“What now?” she breathed.
He answered by rising to his knees and fucking her sideways, with hard steady strokes, his hands on each side of her body first and as he gained momentum, he grabbed her by the hip, guiding her movements as Kory’s arms flapped around trying to get something to prop herself up and follow his vicious rhythm. What she ended up finding was the end of his braid that she pulled making him moan and burry his cock deeper inside her in a tougher thrust.
“X-x-x’hal-“ her voice came out choppy and high pitched, harmonized by the thumping of their headboard against the wall.
***
“What is it with the weird faces?” Kory asked as fixed the rear mirror as the kids settled on the backseat of her car.
“I wanna change rooms,” they both said at the same time making Kory turn around to look at them directly, both of them looking distressed and embarrassed.
“Why?” she asked puzzled and amused by their antics.
Rachel just rolled her eyes and put her headphones on, her cheeks were bright red, Kory turned her gaze to Gar then, he was a little greener than the usual.
“I don’t know about Rach…” that gained a betrayed look and a shove from his sister, but he continued without retaliation, “but I think you and Dick could use a little more… privacy.”
Kory winced. And then turned forward, picking her phone from the dashboard.
“Grayson,” she typed, “you said the walls were totally sound proof…”
Answer came in no time. He was reliable that man of hers. Attentive too. Still… It didn’t feel exactly right to think of him in those terms no matter how she tried to follow that human advice of faking until you make it. Especially considering she wasn’t the only one plagued by nightmares. But instead of screaming like he told her she sometimes did, some nights he would wimp and then freeze in mid slumber, chest barely moving, as if he was too frightened even to breath. Her greatest fear was that, maybe, one of those nights, he really would stop breathing, and she wouldn’t the there to shake him alive again.
“They are. Why?”
She bit her lip imagining him frowning at his phone looking confused and delicious. Her fingers started emanating a low glow and she moved her thighs uncomfortably. X’hal, how long would she need to just get that in control? Would she ever? And how much time would take to drop the kids and drive to where the hell Dick was and… Right. She took a deep breath, and looked sternly to her hands until their light diminished and she continued typing.
“The kids are hearing us.”
“…”
“…”
“…”
She couldn’t help but chuckle, there was a great chance he was giving some whole foods patrons an interesting show by having a nervous breakdown when he should be doing their grocery shopping.
“Dick?” She typed as the three dots refused to become words.
“I’ll fix it.”
She answered with a kissy emoji and put her sunglasses on, then turned around propping her elbow on her seat to look at the children with a shameless bright smile.
“Dick will fix the soundproofing.”
“Thank God,” breathed Rachel, and Kory laughed as she turned the key to start the car, but her movements were cut suddenly when something fell on the hood of her car with a loud crash.
“What the hell?!” asked Rachel pulling her headphones off and going straight to the door handle, but Kory made a sign with her hand to stop the girl.
Clicking her own door open, Kory got out of the car, “stay the both of you!” And locked the door behind her.
“But Kory,” protested Gar, face glued to the window.
Kory answered just with a hard look before turning her back to them to investigate. She has a bad feeling brewing in the pit of her stomach, something eerily familiar, something she has been trying to ignore for months. The hole on the hood of her car fortunately didn’t go though, she will be able to drive just fine. Kory looks up, the skies that were clear in the morning are beginning to gather clouds. It’s winter, she reminds herself, San Francisco usually has good weather, but maybe it was ice? Earth is such a weird planet.
She crosses the whole perimeter of her Ford Elite to make sure, but the world around them seem to be going as usual, nobody else in the parking lot seem to have witnessed anything out of the usual. Kory sighs, hands on her hips and then she feels something burning on the edge of her feet. She bends down and finds an amorphous object, her fingers sizzle as she picks it up. It’s not big, fits on her palm and it’s scalding hot, hotter than any human could stand with bare hands, but it doesn’t bother her skin. Kory sighs and looks up again.
Her attention is brought back to the car as Gar hits the window with an open palm. Rachel is just beside him, blue eyes huge with curiosity.
Kory rolls her eyes and enter the vehicle again.
“It was nothing,” she says before they can ask, “buckle up.”
***
They were ready to finish an uneventful and borderline boring patrol when trouble became apparent when a group of police cars raced past them with the sirens blazing.
“What is that about?” asked Raven.
Starfire and Nightwing exchanged a look, he smiled at her in that confident way he only ever had when they were in the field or when they were in bed. The way that made her feel giddy and her skin ache for his.
“Let’s found out,” he said to the kids and then turned back at her, hugging her by the waist, Kory couldn’t help but use the opportunity of the proximity to take a nip of his ear as she lift them up above. And then she flied in the direction of the police cars being followed by Beast Boy in Tiger form carrying Raven on his back.
Turns out the whole commotion was caused by a man using a laser device of some sorts to make the patrons of a shopping mall to steal for him. Honestly, sometimes Earthens had the most ridiculous ideas. How the Puppeteer was smart enough to create such weapon but stupid to the point of using it to commit such a sloppy crime was beyond her.
She could be at home having quality time with her children, she could be doing her man in the laundry room, X’hal, even doing her taxes felt better use of her time than stopping a crime that was so badly planned. That, right now, consisted in stopping a middle-age woman under the Puppeteer’s influence to use a fire extinguisher to break a Tiffany’s window display that was probably bullet proof, so, basically she was trying to stop that poor woman to hurt herself. Maybe the hypnotic laser not only controlled people but also made them as stupid as their master.
Suddenly, the woman stopped struggling and flopped on the floor like castle of playing cards, Kory rushed to help her to sit down on the floor.
“Ma’am, are you alright?”
The woman blinked slowly at her with a drowsy expression.
“Oh, you are so beautiful…”
Kory smiled at the woman, and seeing she was alright, she rose up looking around just in time to see Raven hand the Puppeteer to the authorities as Beast Boy – now a giant octopus – helped to clean the way for the paramedics. She searched for Nightwing, her heart racing a little even though she knew he probably was only doing his usual of disappearing before the reporters got to the scene. What was her surprise when she completed a circle around herself and was graced with the scene of a camera being shoved at her lover’s disgruntled face.
“Not fast enough today, I see,” she whispered in his ear after going to his rescue. He was just explaining who the Puppeteer was and how the Titans had disabled the hypnotic ray.
“Will the Titans be attending the ball the prefecture is sponsoring tomorrow night?” one reporter asked.
Kory bit her lip, amused at the expression Dick was making, he was so lucky most people couldn’t read him as easily as her under all that black makeup and mask.
“I don’t-“ he began to answer.
“Nightwing, don’t you think this could be a good opportunity strengthen the Titans relationship to the city of San Francisco?”
“Uh…” it was all he managed, poor baby, he really hated those situations. He could give interviews to the point as they were strictly mission related, charming the reporters would never be his forte.
Noticing she wouldn’t get anything else from him, the reporter turned the microphone on Kory’s direction.
“Starfire?”
Kory smiled at the cameras.
“I think it could be fun, but I can’t promise anything. If crime strikes we might not be able to make it to the party.”
“Let’s hope that we have a crime free ball night then. I’m Tabitha Tumble for the Chronicle, and I speak for the entire population of the city of San Francisco that we are grateful for the Titans for keeping us safe.”
“We’re really going to a ball? In costume?!” Asked Rachel as soon as they entered the Tower.
“You don’t have to go if you don’t want to,” she heard Dick answer behind her.
“No way I’m missing that! We never do anything fun!”
“Said the girl who is a superhero,” Dick deadpanned throwing himself on the couch and massaging his temples.
Gar joined them back wearing a bathing robe, they were still in the search of the material to make him a working uniform, but no such luck.
“Can I bail?” He asked timidly, “I mean, as Beast Boy?”
“If he can stay home, I can stay too,” argued Dick.
Kory rolled her eyes.
“I didn’t say I’d stay home it’s just I had plans to go already… with some friends.”
Kory beamed.
“That’s amazing news, Gar, of course you can go with your friends, now, to bed the two of you.”
After the kids were gone, Kory moved from her position resting against the dinner table and joyed Dick on the sofa. He was in the process of peeling off his domino mask, she grabbed his chin, slapping his hands away to do the job herself.
“This could be that date you’ve been stalling to take me since forever.”
He smiled.
“Not my fault if you can never manage to make to out of the bedroom.”
Kory chuckled and put his mask aside, he looked like a racoon without it and under all that black eye makeup. Her sexy racoon.
“That, actually, is your fault,” she retorted, and he responded by pulling her into his lap and then into a kiss.
***
Dick had tried all sorts of subterfuges to get away from the engagement. Including playing dirty in their bedroom and when that didn’t work – but just barely, he did have impressive endurance but Tamaraneans are simply superior – he tried to use work. A case they have been working on for a while, but to his horror, the police somehow solved the case stopping Dick’s plans of using a stakeout to miss the party. What a silly man. Finally, he resigned when she told him there would probably be dancing and if he wasn’t there, she might have to dance with someone else.
“What?” he asked as they met in the living room preparing to leave.
Kory followed his look to find Rachel with a trembling lip. Her heart dropped, and then the girl just jumped on the two of them, making they break they hand-holding to caught the her body.
“What is it, Rach?” Kory asked, worried, but when Rachel’s face rose from the three-way hug, there was no sign of trouble.
“I’m just really happy… I… I never thought… Well, I might have, deep down since I found you,” she rose one of her gloved hands to Dick, “but still… After Melissa, Angela, and your know… I’m just happy I have you guys and-“ she sniffled, turning behind seeking Gar who seemed amused by the sudden display of emotions.
“It’s alright, honey,” she heard Dick saying in a comforting low voice that made Kory’s heart grow a size. He held the girl’s face between his hands and kissed her forehead, she would never stop being amazed at how good he was at that, at being a father, “I…” and he turned to look at Kory then, she smiled at him, at them, nodding, needing no words to understand his search for confirmation, “we understand.”
“No reason to cry, though,” added Kory in a sober tone, taking over after Dick released the girl form the hug to pick up the car keys, “let me fix your makeup.”
“In the car,” said Dick sighing, “or we are getting there late. Gar, I understand you will take a civilian car.”
“Yep,” the boy said popping the ‘p’, putting a detached front, betrayed only by the way his eyes were shinning, “I’ve already forwarded to you the contacts of my friends.”
“Good kid, see Rach, it isn’t hard,” Gar wasn’t the only one with new friends, Rachel had been hanging out with some girls she met a the homeless shelter and Dick wasn’t exactly a fan. Kory had been trying to argue with him for the past months that it was good that the kids were creating a life outside of crime fighting, but if Kory were honest with herself, she wasn’t entirely sure if she approved Rachel’s choice of friends either. But was her daughter’s choice, and if she didn’t respected it, she was no better than her own parents. “Come on, girls, you can fix Rach’s face in the car.”
“My face doesn’t need fixing, you jerk!”
“Debatable,” teased Gar.
Rachel used the powers to bonk her brother on the head and they continued teasing each other as they moved on.
“Why are you in such a hurry?” asked Kory. “You don’t even want to go!”
“As soon as we go,” he said lacing her waist with one arm and kissing her ear, “faster we get to come back.”
She squirmed due his attentions and gave him a giddy look.
“I don’t think that’s how parties work, Grayson.”
***
“What is it?” he asked, hand pulling her waist just a little tighter than the necessary white they danced under the blinking lights of the winter decoration.
“What is what?”
“Lover…”
She smiled at that. He hardly ever called her that outside of a moment of passion, and there was something of sadness in the way he said it now.
“Nothing, just… I remembered that dream I keep having.”
He pulled his head from where it had been resting on the crook of her neck to look at her. He was frowning.
“I didn’t know those dreams have been bothering you that much.”
“It’s nothing, I’m being silly.”
“Hey, you are never silly. I’m the silly one, remember?”
Kory had to smile at that, at him. Maybe she was being silly. Maybe she was just being stupid and having trouble thing to accept that this was her life now. She thought she was over those feelings months ago when her powers returned and the two of them decided to stop suffering for no reason and just accept happiness when it was being offered, but no. Maybe they should call Donna back, beg her to come back and return to her duties as the voice of the reason and stupidity terminator.
“Come here, my silly, silly man,” she could feel his smile as they kissed, and it was like the hollowing feeling inside her chest was dissipating at each stroke of his tongue against hers. Some part of her brain barely noticed as the camera flashed around them. Let them gawk, let them see that the superheroes taking care of their little city were madly in love.
But then the “awns” and whistles became screams of terror and some horrible force pushed her and Dick apart, a crater forming where they had just been standing.
“DICK!” She screamed, completely forgetting about codenames.
There were smoke and debris everywhere making vision quasi-impossible, she floated, trying to get a better idea of the situation. But the giant hole in the ceiling of city hall ruled out an earthquake.
“NIGHTWING!” She shouted again, “RAVEN!” Her heart was beating like crazy as Kory floated aimlessly desperate to find any one them, knowing that she should be helping the civilians, but too afraid to stop looking.
“Here, sister,” she heard a cold arrogant voice say behind her back, “I have your pets.”
Kory turned around to find Komand’r of Tamaran holding a passed out Rachel by her neck, and stepping on Dick’s chest as he lay on the floor, a fillet of blood leaking from his braided hair.
A roar teared through the night and before Kory could act, there was a green tiger in front of her, ready to defend.
“What are you doing, Komand’r?!” Kory’s voice, transformed by rage echoed. “Let them go!”
To Kory’s surprise, her sister did just as asked, Rachel’s body began to fall, but Gar somehow reached to her before she hit the floor in his octopus form, pulling the sleeping girl’s body gently down with his multiple limbs.
“Is she breathing?” Kory asked and the octopus nodded his giant head. Kory’s heart felt just a little less tight as she rushed to her lover, praying the blood she was seeing didn’t mean anything serious. She was not letting death steal that man away again. There was no way in hell she was letting that happen.
To her immense relief, he was awake when she held his hand.
“What is happening?” Dick asked in a weak voice.
“You are alright, you are alright,” Kory said, more to herself than to him,” I don’t know. It’s Blackfire.”
He frowned.
“Your sister?”
She nodded.
“But you said…”
“I was clearly wrong,” she snapped, and then took a deep breath. “Don’t worry, I’m making her pay for this.”
He inhaled, mimicking her.
“Star… The civilians.”
“I’ll take care of everything,” she promised to him, even though she knew the civilians would have to fend for themselves while she took care of the threat that her sister were.
Kory stood up, hating to have to let go of his hand, but shaking with the restrain to listen what that glempo’rk had to say before tearing her apart with her bare hands.
“Why are you here?”
Komand’r hat the nerve of looking offended.
“No hello? No, how have you been beloved sister?”
And Komand’r sent a blast towards Kory, but before it could hit her, Komand’r’s body was thrown against the wall by a giant green octopus arm.
“Gar, stay out of this!” Kory shouted at the octopus. The animal shook his appendages as if he was trying to argue.
“She’s my responsibility. Stay clear!”
White anger propped her body forward as she advanced in Komand’r direction, lifting her by the purple locks and twisting her body away from the blasts o blue fire her sister aimed towards her. There was something deeply filthy in fighting with such violence against someone that had realistic way of defeating her. But Kory wore that shame as a crown.
If Komand’r even was able to hurt her in any level, if one of her starbolts even harmed Kory couldn’t have noticed. All in her mind’s eye was Dick’s terrified eyes, the blood leaking from his hair, Rachel’s limp pale body, the screams of the civilians, the terror, the reality finally imposing over that period she had foolishly believed that free will was a possibility.
“Are you fucking kidding me, Blackfire?” Kory asked watching her sister crawl out of the hole formed by her own body in the rock wall she landed after a punch from Kory. “I thought we had an agreement!”
“We did, and Koriand’r, dearest, I had total intent of keeping to my word but, things are way more complicated than we expected.”
Kory dodged a tree that Komand’r threw at her. She had flown them both to the beach, where she knew there were less of a chance of hurting civilians but she didn’t expect Komand’r to use the vegetation as weapons.
“What you mean?”
“You see, when I came back to Tamaran and told everyone about out agreement, they didn’t believe me. And why would they? They never cared about me. Never believed me,” Kory rolled her eyes, cry me a fucking river, all Komand’r knew to do was tell sob stories about how unfairly treated she is by everyone. Kory had believed her last time and look where it got them. “When I told them Mother and Father wanted to sell me to serve the Citatel in exchange to keep the peace, and that’s why I had to kill them, they didn’t believe me either.”
What?! Kory’s insides froze.
“That was not what you told me,” that lying scheming bitch! She had said last time that their parents had tried to kill her! “Are we at war with the Citatel? Since when?! Why didn’t you tell me?!”
“But that’s the whole point Koriand’r. What I say, may it be whole truth or not it’s irrelevant because you, and the rest of Tamaran, my people, my subjects, you never believe me!”
“Stop playing the eternal victim! You can’t expect me to believe in you when you don’t tell me-“
That seemed to anger her, because Komand’r flew into Kory, who screamed at the hot pain from her sister pulling her hair while giving a series of kicks against her spine.
“I expected you to believe in me because you are my sister!” Komand’r shouted, finally letting Kory’d body fall on the floor, when Kory turned to look, she saw tears streaming from her sister’s eyes. “Yet… why would you? You were never truly my sister before!” Komand’r took a couple of breaths as Kory picked herself from the sandy ground. She… There was something Kory wasn’t being able to put her finger in, those surges of energy, that film of sweat over her face, that was not normal. “But… as I were saying, they didn’t believe me, when I told them you have given up the crown.”
There was something wrong with her sister, more than the usual, it almost looked like she was sick again, just like when they were children.
“They wouldn’t accept me as their queen and they did nothing when the Citatel took my lover, tortured and killed him in front of me… You see our sun isn’t strong as this yellow sun you have here. He was fragile there.”
Kory who was ready to blast her sister into the ocean, let her arm fall.
“Conner is dead?!”
Komand’r’s lip trembled and a sickly purple light flicked around her.
“His death will not be in vain, nor will my suffering… Tamaran will accept me as their rightful queen as long as there is no one to challenge my claim. And, when I take your body home, and parade it like they paraded my Conner. They will unite with me, and we will win the war.”
In that moment Kory realized her sister was dying. They did something to her and she was dying. That delusion, something she probably had been saying to herself across the galaxies was the only thing holding her together.
“X’hal… You are absolutely out of your damn mind.”
It didn’t matter if Komand’r was weak, it didn’t matter that she was clearly crazy and note entirely responsible for what she was doing. From the moment she chose to come after Kory and put Earthlings, the people Kory loved, in danger, things became really simple, and both of their destinies where sealed.
And Komand’r, somehow, maybe the last part of her mind that wasn’t totally corrupted, knew. So, when Kory differed her last starbolt, her sister opened her arms as if she was receiving a blessing.
“Sister,” Kory sobbed as the ashes of Komand’r’s body spread away with the wind, “I am truly sorry, I shouldn’t let you to go back alone. You were right. You were always right. This, what happened to you is my fault. I should have payed attention. I should have taken responsibility. I’ll never let anything like this happen ever again, your death will not be in vain.”
She walked back to City Hall. Fireman and paramedics swarmed the place, people screamed at her as she passed, and she might have told a cop that there was no threat anymore because some people cheered. Kory wanted to blast them to a new galaxy. Her sister’s death was not motive for commemoration.
Finally, someone pointed her to the direction where the Titans were.
Dick had his head wrapped in bandages and Gar was beside him looking exhausted wearing a shock blanket.
“Starfire!”
She tried to smile, but the muscles of her face seemed to have forgotten how to do that.
“Where is Rachel?” she asked. She wanted to hug them. She could see by their body language they didn’t quite understand why she wasn’t touching them.
“She’s helping. A lot of people were hurt,” explained Dick, “what happened?”
“Komand’r is dead.”
He sustained her gaze, jaw clenching, and then, despite herself, he was pulling her into a hug.
All Kory wanted was to fall apart, all she ever wanted was to bury herself in his arms and never leave.
But she couldn’t.
So she pushed him away and didn’t flinch at his confused and hurt expression.
“Conner is dead.”
“What?!” Gar exclaimed, eyes huge, mouth agape in pain. Her boy, her precious boy, she would never get the chance of seeing him becoming a man.
“The Citatel, they are enemies of my people, they are invaded my planet, they killed Conner because he tried to defend it.”
“That’s not all, is it?” Dick asked, grabbing her wrist “is it?”
Her demeanour started to break then, but not her resolve. Kory pulled her wrist from his grip without any trouble. He was so fragile. Earthen. Expirable.
How could she even have thought that they could be together? How could she have been so stupid to the point of believing such a flimsy, obvious lie? And she had the arrogance of think only Komand’r was delusional. Komand’r who had loved a Kryptonian.
“I’m leaving,” she finally said.
“No,” Gar stammered in horror. “Kory you can’t do that!”
“Take care of your sister,” she said to him and without looking at her ex-lover, she turned her back at them walking away. There would not be teary goodbyes, she was not giving a chance to even try to make her stay, they were hurt enough, she didn’t want to have to fight them too.
But, of course, they would not play along. And Dick’s arms were around her. She shivered, trying desperately to memorize the sensation. That, she knew, was the last time.
“Kory, please, I… I need you.”
It’s the first time he uses that name with her in a very long time, and that, over what she can imagine will be Rachel’s reaction when she find out, and Gar’s look of betrayal, that is what makes the rest of heart she has remaining to crumble.
“I know,” she chokes and turns into the embrace, pushing her forehead against his and taking a shaky breath, she wants to kiss him, more than she ever wanted anything in her entire life, but she doesn’t dare to. “But they need me more.”
The sun starts peeking over the heavy clouds, Kory feels the golden tendrils of light, wrap around her, pulling her away from the arms of the man she loves.
She lets the surge of power consume her body and push her towards the sky, and far away from a life too good and that, deep down, she always know it was nothing but an impossible dream.
---------
Just want to say that if you guys kill me you will never get to the end of the story HAHAHA
I know some of you saw something like this coming, but I bet no one knew for sure how bad it would be. The original plan was to make Kom evil just because like in the comics, but that never sat well with me, so, you get a tragic, half-mad Kom to whom Kory has very complicated feelings towards. Also that fight scene was a bitch to write, I’m bad at that crap.
So, this fics is hardly getting any comments even though I see new kudos and bookmarks, please, if you can, take a little time to tell me what you are thinking, it really helps to get the story going.
See ya!

Imagine the heartache of the demigods at Camp Half Blood whose friends left to join Kronos. Did the departed whisper goodbye? Try and convince their friends to join them? Or did those left behind wake up one morning to find the empty bed of another sibling? To see another empty spot on the bench at breakfast? No warning. No note. No need to wonder, because everyone knows where they went. Did the Hermes kids wake up one morning and realize that their cabin, the home of unclaimed demigods, felt spacious for the first time in years?
At the battle of Manhattan, how did it feel to look across enemy lines and see your sibling? A best friend? A crush? A familiar face from across the campfire?
Did Kronos’ army help you feel at home on your first day at camp? Did they carry you to the infirmary after a nasty game of capture the flag? Were they your first kiss? Did they place a steadying hand on your back as you climbed up the rock wall, making sure you were safe?
As demigods on both sides of the war drew their swords, was it like looking in a mirror? How must it have felt, to be prepared to fight and kill someone just like you?

some Conan by Roberto De La Torre.
Roberto got the memo on how to draw this stuff. Man oh man, this is some pretty stuff. Like a modern John Buscema, with a heavier inking hand.

The Luke Castellan problem in PJO books and Fandom
I just finished rereading the pjo series for the dozenth time and I have so many thoughts about Luke and how the fandom woobified him.
Like no Luke did not have the right idea and executed it in the wrong way. He wasn't a misguided victim, although there is no doubt Kronos manipulated him. But him being manipulated does not absolve him of his wrongdoings. Hurt people can still hurt people, you can be abused and still become an abuser.
Most of Fandom's idea of Luke being a 'hero' because he did the right thing in the end is extremely doozy like ok he killed himself to stop Kronos but that does not absolve him the blame of killing innocent people.
While Luke's main goal was the destruction of Gods, that was not because he wanted the demigods to have better lives. He actively killed demigods.
In the Sea of Monsters, when Percy, Annabeth and Tyson snuck into Princess Andromeda; they saw 12 year olds being trained how to kill a 'dummy in camp half blood tshirts'. He was actively exploiting children and manipulating them into killing other children and saw nothing wrong with it.
He only considered deflecting from Kronos when he found out that he was going to be possessed by him.
He only worked and cared for him, he was so lost into power and revenge that HE became a monster.
"Oh but he cared for Thalia and Annabeth!!" I'll get into that later too
I think Luke's fatal flaw contrary to the opinion of fandom is The Urge to Prove Himself.
He had one conversation with Hermes which made him angry and bitter and Thalia even notes that after that conversation Luke got into more and more fights with monsters like he had something to prove which Annabeth didnt seem to see as a problem since he was her hero. They got into more skirmishes because of his recklessness, fighting more monsters since Luke wanted to pick a fight with each one he came across.
(Conversation from PJO, The Last Olympian)
His fatal flaw being to Prove Himself would explain why he took the failure of his quest so hard that the night he returned from the quest was the same night Kronos started speaking to him for the first time. It didn't help that when he returned from his failed quest, the campers treated him with pity.
Tumblr media
He wanted to pull Olympus down stone by stone because He failed his quest that he didn't want to do because it was already done by Hercules once. 🥴
His endgame has nothing to do with wanting to help ANYBODY. He wanted to take down gods because he had a grudge against them and wanted to Prove that he could do it. Everything else comes secondary if it fits his agenda.
Tumblr media
This is one of the reasons why it bothers me so much when people say that Luke had the right idea or that Percy would have joined Kronos if Sally had died like you fundamentally misunderstood the character of Percy if you think he would have joined Kronos.
He talks about "driving humanity back into caves, all except the strongest - who would serve him" THIS IS LITERALLY FASCISM???
(According to Merriam-Webster, Fascism is a political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression)
Now onto the topic of Thalia, Annabeth and Luke
First of all, I absolutely hate that 'Thalia and Luke had a thing before she got turned into a tree bit' because Thalia was 12 and Luke was 14 when they met and Thalia was 15 and Luke was 20-21ish when they meet again in TTC ugh hate that.
Now TTC, where to begin, here I used to believe Luke had already bathed in river Styx as there are some narrations where Percy notes that Luke looked worse and like his scar was reopened and would certainly explain how he survived the cliff fall but on my rereading I realised that Thalia and Luke fought when Percy was holding the sky and Thalia injured Luke so nvm then.
It is however in this book that Luke began to realise Kronos's plan for him as it is implied by the General and he starts to fear for his life.
Tumblr media
Mind you, what did Luke think would happen if Thalia did agree to join Kronos when he knew Kronos was looking for a host of body...
Luke is many things, he is cunning, manipulative, a great swordsman but what he is not is stupid. If Thalia would have agreed then Kronos would have used Thalia as a vessel 😬
And oh boy the can of worms that is Luke and Annabeth. I've seen many Luke fans/apologists deny that there is no canon evidence of Luke being romantically interested in Annabeth BUT THERE IS?? they refuse to believe and call Annabeth an unreliable narrator because otherwise their uwu white boy would be a Pedophile. Even if he wasn't a Pedo, he manipulated Annabeth so many times to make her sympathise with her and use her emotions against her.
(excerpts from various books: TLO, TLO, BoTL, MoA annabeth's pov)
Tumblr media
^ Annabeth was 15 almost 16 or already 16 I believe when Luke asked her to run away with him in a romantic sense and he was 21-22.
also another evidence adding to the theory of his fatal flaw having proving himself.
Tumblr media
Now, onto the topic of CHB and Luke:
Luke being hesitant to attack camp half blood in BotL has less to do with him suddenly growing a spine (as some fans suggest) and more to do with the inevitable possession.
When Kronos informs that he will himself lead the attack, Luke advises to use Hyperion instead because he knows for Kronos to attack it in person, he would finally possess Luke.
(first one is from TTC, the other two from BoTL)
Tumblr media
One of the last things I wanna talk about is Silena Beauregard & Luke and Luke's portrayal in the new Percy Jackson series:
Luke was 17 when Kronos started speaking to him and 19 when he left the camp. Silena was 17-18 when she died which makes her 13-14 when Luke left the camp in TLT and 11-12 when Kronos first started talking to him. Adult Luke charmed an underage girl, and promised her that she was helping the demigods and then when she tried to stop, he started blackmailing her. [excerpts from TLO]
Tumblr media
According to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children UK, Grooming is when someone builds a relationship, trust and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit and abuse them. The relationship a groomer builds can take different forms. This could be: a romantic relationship, as a mentor, an authority figure, a dominant and persistent figure. They might use blackmail to make a child feel guilt and shame or introduce the idea of 'secrets' to control, frighten and intimidate.
So canonically, Book!Luke is a fascist groomer pedophile.
Now on the new Disney+ Percy Jackson show, it seems that Rick Riordan is subtly rewriting the character of Luke and removing the more problematic aspect of him (pedophile and grooming). Let me explain why I think that:
Even though in TLT the book, Luke describes Annabeth as his little sister we know how well that lasted but I don't think they are keeping Annabeth's crush on him on the show from what I've seen (though I could be wrong).
Secondly, the casting of Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse puts Clarisse on the same age range as Luke, maybe a year or two younger but in the first book Clarisse was 13-14 and she was 17 in TLO, so they have aged her up. It is my assumption that they will also age Silena by casting a 17-19 yr old actress as her.
And they have made Luke far more sympathetic in the show than the books (him not calling a hellhound during capture the flag and no pit scorpions in the finale), but we wouldn't know how sympathetic or villainous they are making him until season 2 comes out. Charlie Bushnell gives an excellent performance imo
Though this again reflects the double standards it comes to PJO, they have given much grace and praise for the changes made to Luke's character and little to no complaint for ageing up Clarisse but the hate Walker and especially Leah are given is so cruel. Leah has been so much racially targeted though I think she's an excellent Annabeth, just something to think about.
Also, before I forget-
We don't give enough flack to Rick Riordan for writing two weird age dynamics without recognising as grooming and pedophilic nature. (Lukabeth and Caleo/Capercy)
The characters are never made to realise (especially Annabeth) that an older person having feelings for them as a minor is not a normal behaviour.
Especially in regards to Calypso who may take the form of a 15 year old but is actually more than 4612 (according to the riordan wiki) and her having a crush on 14 year old Percy and 15-16 yr old Leo Valdez, not to mention how rudely she treated Leo. Also her cursing Annabeth because Percy left her. Not only is it plain nasty but she's never called out. Its actually so disgusting🤕.
Anyways this turned into a long rant but I would love to read your opinions, especially on Luke's fatal flaw.
I know for some people it may seem like I'm too hard on him but this is just my opinion.
IMO I have no problem if you like a morally bad or gray person, an antihero or a villain as long as their bad deeds aren't swept under the rug and pretend they never happened or glorify their good deeds.
I actually think villian's bad things make them more interesting.
Luke is an antagonist and a villain of the PJO series and a part of being a villain is that some people are going to hate you and that's ok.
Me personally, I was never a fan of his and that's ok.
I know some people are going to bring up the fact that Percy in MoA sympathises but the PJO characters are complicated and Luke was very skilled at making others think of his reason to destroy the Gods the way they would sympathise the most and we see that multiple times.

I feel like you guys with spend most of the time walking around the strip and the bed
“Baby are you almost done getting ready?” Eren asks as he walks into the bathroom, watching you from the mirror.
“Yeah but Sasha is gonna come up to our room in a bit so we can pre game.” You say as you put on your lashes. “It’s only 8pm,Eren. We have the rest of the night.” You mumble.
“I know but i want to go to the buffet before it closes” He whine softly. “and plus i want to fuck you” He whispers in your ear, grabbing your waist.
“No,mi amor. I’m still tired from earlier.” You push him off gently, touching up your makeup a bit.
Before he can say anything there’s a loud knock on your door. “You guys better not be fucking!” Connie yells from outside.
Eren groans and rolls his eyes, walking out the restroom to open the door. “You cockblock” Eren smacks connie on the head as he walks in.
“Eren shut up,we weren’t even going to do anything in the first place” You scold him as you walk out the restroom.
Sasha hands you a shot as she walks in with Mikasa and Annie. You four walk over to the couches while Eren,Connie, Jean and Armin talk by the door.
“Sweet girl, are you already ready?” Eren walks over to you guys after 15 minutes. “Hmm? Where are we going to go though?” You ask
“We were thinking about going to the casinos to gamble for a bit and then going a bar” He grabs you by your waist, leaning down to kiss you.
You smile against his lips, pulling away gently. “Yeah let me just put on my shoes” You try to walk away but he pushes you onto the couch to sit.
He grabs your shoes and kneels down. He gently slides on the heel and buckles them up. He kisses your ankle before getting back up.
“That was so cute” Sasha mumbles. “I really thought he was gonna fuck her when he pushed her on the couch” Connie says with food stuffed in his mouth.
“I wouldve fucked her if you guys weren’t here” Eren mumbles to himself.
______
It’s 1 am and you guys are now at the Bellagio hotel casino. Eren won the jackpot as if he needs the money when he’s filthy rich and is grabbing his cash.
“Baby i’m getting tired” You whine to hmm softly ,massaging your feet. “Want me to carry your heels and you can wear my shoes?” He says as he sits you down at one of the casino games.
“No you have big feet so imma trip myself and plus i don’t want you to get sick.” He takes off your heels and kisses your ankle, massaging your feet as well.
“I can run back to the hotel to grab your other shoes” He says softly. “No i want to go back to the hotel to rest” You mumble.
“Okay let’s go,mama” He sends a quick text to the group and picks you up bridal style. You laugh, holding onto him tightly.
“You know that i’m gonna fuck you when we get back to the hotel room, right?” You look at him quickly. “Hold on i was just overreacting,I’m not actually tired” He laughs and kisses your cheek.
“Too late,mama”

I mean, if I had as many psychotic crises as Dick does I'd too would be weary of dreams and visions and shit
but it IS funny that he was arguing in favor of skepticism about that with his Alien wife while raising with her a witch daughter and a couple of boys with superpowers

Part Four – Voyagers
But when all’s said and done, I’d surrender to you in other ways. Even though each time, I know I’ll see you again, I always wonder is this the last time? Is that really you? And what if you’re perfectly happy without me? Ah, but I don’t blame you; I’ll never burn as brilliantly as you. It’s only fair that I should be the one to chase you across ten, twenty-five, a hundred lifetimes  until I find the one where you’ll return to me. 25 Lives, by Tongari
Chapter Twenty-one – A free man with nowhere free to go
“What?” his question floated heavy with the weight of the satisfaction their afterglow provided. Heavier than the bliss, only her gaze, at first he thought nothing of if, but, after a while, he noticed it’s heat what was preventing the darkness of sleep to claim him, her insistent stare anchoring him do conscientiousness.
“I was thinking, you know, about what you said once, that we might not be exact copies from… You know,” she undoubtedly felt the change in his body as her words crowded the room filled not so long before only by the two of them. Beside their bed, summoned by her words, the haunting of the past stood, unfinished. “Have you noticed something about me? Something different... from her?”
He fought the urge to grimace by smiling, his face stiff with the effort.
“Why? You were the one who said you couldn’t pick us apart, are you trying to tell me you found something now?”
She rolled her eyes good-naturedly, he could see she was itching for insisting on her question, but he wondered if, to her too, curiosity and fear ran shoulder to shoulder in regards to their parallel counterparts. Koriand’r moved from her place beside him, climbing on his chest, one arm folded under her chin, her hair moving a little slower than the rest of her body, floating around her in a mess of auburn curls as if it was its own separate entity.
“Actually, I did.”
Read on AO3
“Oh...” He sighed, “good different or bad different?”
“Just different,” she smiled, and reached out, cupping his face, thumb tracing around his eye, as if she was drawing the mask she had just presented him the night they decided to give happiness a chance. “Your eyes are so light sometimes, like scotch... And the right one is almost blue in places... His eyes were darker.”
Dick shut his eyes, the darkness dissolved his memory, she was gone. And he was back to the present, where his chest was empty and his bed cold.
He sucked on a shaky breath, hating the hot tears burning his eyes and gritting his teeth. He had gone through worse. He had gone through the end of the world goddammit!
Still, instead of fighting, instead of shaking off all that despair, Dick curled into himself. He slept.
Dick was pulled from nonsensical anxiety inducing nightmares by the metallic click of the door opening.
“Gar?” he panted, still being able to taste despair although he couldn’t remember any of the dreams, the memory of Koriand’r flying away into the oblivion burning in front of his mind.
The boy gave him what seemed to be a valiant try to smile, but never he had looked so fragile, not even back when they had that difficult conversation in the woods when Gar had confessed his worst fears. Losing Koriand’r being a threat even then, a threat Dick had dismissed. How stupid, how irresponsible. When would he ever learn?
Happiness was something that didn’t belong to this world, to any world where he could dwell. And every time he tasted it, loss would be right in the corner waiting.
“Hey…” The boy saluted in a barely there voice, his lips trembling.
“You alright?” Dick asked, grimacing at his own choice of words. “Where’s Rachel?“
“Rach is up,” Gar said, although he had been better, he didn’t look like someone who had seen the end of the world either, in his oversized hoodie and flat hair falling over his forehead. “She’s trying to make an omelette. And I…” He sucked air though his teeth, his shoulders shaking a little. He was very young, his Gar. “Well…”
Dick wanted to ask, he did, but he didn’t think he needed to.
“An omelette?” he asked instead. “So she’s not…” they exchanged a knowing look, a concerned look.
The trip back home last night was not pretty.
“Stop looking at me like that! I’m fine! You don’t have to worry about me or Trigon, I’m nothing like your daughter!”
And then she stormed into her room and locked the door ignoring his pleas to let him in.
He had stood there for a long time, and even longer sitting on the floor in dread. However, after a while, when no sound came from inside, no apocalypse, no sign that the reality was being ripped apart to give away to out-worldly evil, Dick was forced to acknowledge that, he wasn’t so afraid of that Rachel. He was afraid of having to face the constraint of his bedroom alone.
“She,” Gar started in a tone that didn’t hide his endearment and maybe a little pride too, “is worried about you.”
Dick blinked in astonishment, and then fumbled around his bed for his phone.
“What time is it?”
“Around noon,” he sat on Dick’s bed then, and pulled something from his pocket, “looking for this?”
This, was a broken melted mess that had once being Dick’s cell phone.
“Fuck,” Dick breathed, examining the ruined gadget in his hands. Maybe it was because of Gar’s body, but it somehow was still warm. It crossed his mind the notion that a melted cell phone would be the last thing of his, Koriand’r would ever touch and a sob escaped his chest before he could stop himself.
Dick rose terrified eyes to Gar, hand covering his mouth. No. Not in front of the child. But the was no use, the other sobs followed, bringing hot tears and a mix of shame and powerlessness.
It was with horror, love, and infinite gratitude that Dick let his boy wrap his arms around an undeserving, poor substitute for a father.
“What is happening?!” A rushed Rachel appeared at the door, spatula still in hand.
Dick unclenched an arm away from Gar and rose it towards her who lost no time before joining them. Father and daughter exchanged a look, there was no need for spoken apologies, not between them. He kissed her forehead and closed his eyes, pain and bliss and despair and so much love filling him and she laid her head on his shoulder.
And for tiny moment, it was enough.
“It’s really good, Rach,” he said, munching on a generous piece of over salted egg with scraped burned parts.
Rachel rolled her eyes and pulled the plate from his hands, throwing the food in the trash bin.
“Gar, call the pizza guy,” she said over her shoulder.
“On it.”
“So, what’s the plan?” Rachel asked crossing her arms and leaning against the sink, all business, which made Dick feel ever more confused and guilty. “Have you called Bruce?”
He frowned.
“Bruce? What for?”
Rachel looked at him as if he was being absolutely stupid on purpose.
“What you mean what for? We need to get a spaceship or some other way to get to Kory!”
 Oh…
That would explain why she didn’t let Trigon out. She had hope still.
Dick clenched his jaw and took a deep breath, looking down at his daughter as if she was a bomb he was trying to disable. Maybe she really was. Maybe, he was the one about to go off and blow everything.
“I don’t think she wanted us to follow her,” he managed to say in a voice so strangled he barely recognized as his own.
“Bullshit!”
“Rachel-“ Gar tried to intervene.
“No!” she shouted, shaking from head to toes. “I am not giving up on her, Dick,” she sobbed, “I’m not! I can’t! You, from all people, I thought… I thought you would understand.”
Dick stared at her, his heart hammering against his ribcage. He had, from the fatidic moment she flew into the sky, been wandering in a nebulous place inside his mind. Numb and lost, all alone but for a voice that laughed at him for believing that he, from all the more deserving people lost in the swamp of despair that his home world became, deserved a fresh start, deserved happiness. And now, came Rachel, always her, offering him once more, hope.
What good more hope can do, though, when you already hang yourself?
He looked away from Rachel’s disillusioned face to Gar, the boy too looked like he was shipwrecked and waiting for him to throw a lifeline, lifeline Dick didn’t have, dancing in the air, praying for the agony deliver him to the darkness of the nothingness, end of pain.
“What you think, Gar?” he forced himself to ask in a small voice.
Gar exchanged a look with Rachel, it was like they were having a whole conversation that excluded Dick. It had been a while since he had felt so alone, so detached, so much of a stranger.
“I agree with Rach,” Gar finally said with a fierce look.
Dick breathed in sharply. Seeing the betrayal in Rachel’s face turning into gratitude made him feel worse somehow.
“You heard her,” he argued, in a faux calm voice, “you heard what Koriand’r said,” saying that name aloud ripped his heart, but he continued. “Rachel didn’t, and I understand her reaction now because of it. But you heard her, Gar. She wasn’t kidnapped, nobody forced her to leave, she went willingly,” he spat the last three words, numbness condensing into a storm of rancour.
Rachel bit both of her lips tightly, and cleaned a tear that slid down her cheek in a stiff gesture.
“I know,” she retorted in a hard voice. “I saw the video. And I know Kory. She didn’t want to go.”
“What someone wants or doesn’t want matters nothing, it’s their actions.”
She gave him an offended huff, her expression becoming more and more angrier.
“Like how you want to get her back but is choosing to act like a douchebag right now?”
“Rachel!” said Gar scandalized.
“No Gar, you know he’s full of bullshit and he knows too,” she took a raggedy breath, pressing the heels of her hands to her eyes firmly. “God! I’m tired,” and then she walked past them, leading to her room.
Rachel’s words and betrayed look had punched Dick hard and let him reeling.
Once more, he felt like a failure. Rachel had saved him, given him back everything he had lost, and that’s how he repaid her.
Gar followed after a while, giving Dick a pat on his shoulder before disappearing into the corridor.
Something caught his eye as he stood there nailed to the ground and afraid of stepping back into the end of the world at any second. He picked the object, mostly whole in its sparkly heavy duty phone case, except for a crack on the screen that lit up at his command. Her wallpaper was a picture from the gala, his arms around her waist, her head on his shoulder, her golden soft glow surrounding the both of them. As if they belonged together.
It didn’t matter it last so little, it was enough for his to build a castle of dreams, a whole future with her.
Clearly, it had not been the same to her.
But she still had responsibilities to Gar and Rachel. He couldn’t care a rat’s ass if her weird mess of a planet needed her, fuck them. Gar and Rachel needed her and he would not let her just leave them.
Because been left behind was hard, and that is what he became after losing so much, hard. And Dick would be damned if he would let that happen to his children.
Gritting his teeth and ignoring his stinging eyes, Dick typed her passcode and chose a number.
“Miss Anders! I thought-“
“It’s me. I need a favour.”
