Geneva '74 50 years on: Ford Coins Concept by Ghia. Half a century ago the motor industry was ramping up to the 44th Geneva Motor Show. The Coins was designed by Tom Tjaarda as a projection of what a Ford Capri of 1994 might look like. Features included a central drivering position with seating for 3 and a single rear door.
"It cannot go into production," said a Ford spokesman ''but the Coins is a useful exercise to try out a number of advanced ideas and assess public reaction to them."

The great thing about the Pantera (1971-1992) was you got the exotic Italian look and style but with a cheap reliable easy to maintain Ford V8. The mid-engined Pantera also had a decent price tag: De Tomaso Pantera GTS

Chevrolet Corvette Rodine
Pininfarina can proudly boast of being one of the most important design houses in automotive history. In its more than 80 years of history, a multitude of models have come out of its studios for a large number of manufacturers, although models such as the Ferrari F40, the Maserati 5000GT, the Lancia Flaminia or more modern vehicles such as the Maserati GranTurismo or the Ferrari FF. The Italian firm also worked with Chevrolet to create the Corvette Rondine, a true collector's item that was created as a display prototype to be shown at the 1963 Paris Motor Show. The vehicle's designer was Tom Tjaarda. Who in his career designed more than 70 vehicles, not only for Pininfarina but also for other studios such as Ghia or Giugiaro. An important difference between the original Corvette and the Corvette Rondine is that the latter had a body made of steel instead of fiberglass. Under the hood we find a 327 ci (5.4-liter) V8-cylinder engine that delivers 360 hp, linked to a four-speed manual gearbox.

De Tomaso Longchamp Spider, 1983, by Carrozzeria Pavesi. The Longchamp Coupé was designed by Tom Tjaarda at Ghia and went on sale in 1972 so it took 11 years for the convertible version to be offered. They were built by Pavesi for De Tomaso and only 14 were made before production of the Longchamp ended in 1988.

Was this Pinin Farina-and-Tom Tjaarda-designed 1960 Corvair Coupe Speciale a foreshadowing of the 1965 model? - David Conwill @Hemmings
Was this Pinin Farina-and-Tom Tjaarda-designed 1960 Corvair Coupe Speciale a foreshadowing of the 1965 model? – David Conwill @Hemmings
The Corvair Coupe Speciale by Pininfarina was a 1960 that was restyled repeatedly in the early ’60s. Image courtesy Gooding & Company. I’m partial to the styling of the Early Model Corvairs (1960-’64), which is widely known to have inspired the designers who penned the 1961 NSU Prinz. Here’s an example of the other way around. Back in 1960, when the Corvair first came out, someone decided they…

1968 Serenissima Ghia, sold for 452 960 €
The Serenissima Ghia GT is a one-off design penned by the great Tom Tjaarda, and conceived by Count Giovanni Volpi di Misurata and Alejandro de Tomaso. The truth of the matter is that de Tomaso had just bought the storied Italian coachbuilder Ghia in 1967, and he wanted the Count to leverage the name of his racing team Serenissima into sales of a high-end sports car. The car was originally fitted with a Massimino 3.5 litre V8 engine but this was replaced relatively quickly with an Alf Francis M-167 V8 engine with the same capacity.
