day 2: favourite romantic moment
218 (vanessa cruz): this is the scene that won me over and the moment I started shipping them. I had been casually watching the show for time pass until he said those words. I tried to be a general viewer, but here I'm today with a blog dedicated to their love. this scene hit me like nothing else.

TOM KEEN APPRECIATION WEEK
Day two: Favorite Romantic moment?
Answer: THIS SCENE. I ALWAYS go back to this scene. No matter how many times I watch it, it gets better and better every time. It’s so beautifully written, said, acted! I’ll probably never shut up about this scene. I love the banter that they have, the struggle Tom has in wanting to say the truth about Red, Tom realizing he had true feelings for her, Liz knowing most of it was real. UGH!!! AND THAT KISS? It’s so emotional. Tom’s “what was that?” it took him off guard. A spy, completely and utterly silenced by one woman. It never gets old. This scene is in my top 5 and definitely number 1. A thank you to whoever created these gifs! ❤️

Tom Keen Appreciation Week, Day Seven: Most Meaningful Quote/Line
This was a tough one for me because Tom has some great lines through the show, but this one hits home for me because while he was popping off at Jolene and trying to make her think that Liz meant nothing, she had become and would always be his whole world. He would give up his job, his security, his safety, and everything he’d known for her. He would risk prison and death for her. He would fight for her with no promise of receiving anything in return other than her safety and a chance to give her a little piece of happiness.
She was his family. She was everything.
Sure, he made her think it, but he made her think it because it was true. He just didn’t want Jolene to know that, and the moment it was clear she suspected it she was a dead woman walking.
I do have a few fun, snarky lines that I love for Tom though. Find those under the cut :D

Welcome to the first of our Summer specials: Down the Rabbit Hole where @tessabltheorist and @takadasaiko will take a look at one theory per episode. Some of these will be our theories, some that are sent in, or a combination thereof.
We thought it would be appropriate to line this first one up with the Tom Keen Appreciation Week for the Bonus Day: A scene or story you would have wanted to see for Tom, so here it is! We jump into the theory on if Tom is alive or not. How it happened, why it happened, who all was involved, and why he hasn't come back. We hope you enjoy!

Tom Keen Appreciation Week, Day Seven: Most Meaningful Quote/Line
2.19 LEONARD CAUL
There were so many meaningful quotes to choose from. I decided on this scene because I think it marks the beginning of Tom’s Redemption. Tom was fearless in this scene and did not hold back on telling Red how much pain Liz has endured since he came into her life.
Admittedly, Tom knew he played a big part in that.
But he owned it and said he was trying to change. He was OUT.
(But he still loved Liz).
Mad props for Tom in providing the venue/makeshift hospital and aiding in savings Red life during the shootout.
I think a mistake people make is comparing Red and Tom as to who’s worse, yada yada. There is a clear distinction between a “Father” figure and a husband/marriage. The love is different. And LIz’s pain as a result of either two is different as well . As in, real life. I don’t compare them. I do love Red and I do love Tom I should say.
Dialogue - Courtesy of The Blacklist Declassified
Tom [ to Red, who is awake but remains silent ]:
You know, that day at the hospital, the day Sam died, I think about that day a lot. I worked for you two years– we never met.
You were always this shadow, moving from place to place, talked about, but never seen.
And then there you were.
To see you sitting there after I’d betrayed your trust, gone to work for Berlin, I was terrified. I sat there listening to you threaten me, threaten anyone who could hurt Liz. And all I could think was you– You are the one who hurts Liz the most.
She’s here in this right now because of you. And I know I played a part in that, and I’m not saying I didn’t, but– Trying to fix that. So I told her the truth about us. I’m telling you this because I don’t want you to be confused about my part in any of this– you, Liz [ Sighs ] All of it. I’m out. I’m done.

day five: favourite friendship
tom and karakurt: the bar for friendships are set very low because all his potential friends greet him either with a pistol or a punch in the face. you can't exactly term this as friendship, but I take no criticism. leave me alone.

on a serious note: I wish we got to see more of aram and tom, because that would've been such a great friendship. the ceos of nerd community. we were served breadcrumbs, and it was potential wasted.

Tom Keen Appreciation Week 2020, Day Five: Favorite Friendship
Tessler
The Blacklist has so many stories of light and dark that gradually move into the grey and these two are such a fun mix.
This friendship had so much promise. One man that was desperate to live by the book, to be what he saw as a good man and to honour his father, and the other who never knew a good man to live up to and that who sharpened his teenage deviancy into into a useful weapon that helped him to survive.
I wish we’d seen more of it. Ress continuing to see glimpses of the Tom that Liz knew and Tom realizing that Ress was more than just a cop. I think they were good for each other. I think they challenged each other in the way that they both fought for Liz and the way that that devotion (in whatever form you care to put on it) helped them to grow and work together.
We were robbed of the snarky banter and favour that Tom owed Ress. We were robbed of Tom finding out that Ress isn’t as squeaky clean as he portrays and the two of them maybe, someday, getting to a point that they could talk about it. I would have loved to see a moment with the two of them at a bar talking about their rough childhoods over a beer and the walls of judgement that they both hide behind coming down.
Yep. You caught me. I miss Tessler.

day six: favourite episode or scene for tom
216 (tom keen): undoubtedly the episode dedicated to him. taking the blame to exonerate liz was one of the major highlights in his arc, and this was the starting point for a new beginning. he had been running since he was fourteen, and in that moment he realised that perhaps there could be a world out there where he didn't have to run.

day four: favourite undercover op
tom bond: what I loved about the elementary school teacher is that it wasn't just a mere job. it was the rock bottom on which he built his life on. it's fascinating how jacob phelbs could take on any identity like a chameleon and blend into whatever life the mission required him to have, but with the identity he created to protect elizabeth, something went terribly wrong. as much as he first tried to convince himself that it was just a job: love was the greatest mole. everything from him being conflicted about his feelings, ultimately burning the concierge of crime, his handler and then berlin, in order to stay with the person he didn't expect to love, isn't as simple as it sound for a man who had devoted his entire life to st reigns and to being a covert operative. the path he chose was unhealthy, but he didn't exactly know any better.
I watched the entire season one being a general viewer. I wasn't interacting with the fandom nor did I read spoilers. so when I first met this guy, I found him charming. but I also felt bad for him because it didn't seem like his wife met him halfway. if that tom keen you met in the pilot was entirely real, I don't think the relationship between him and liz would've survived. it was bound to break.
eventually there was something off about tom bond. he seemed adorable, but with all the proof layed out against him I didn't know what to think. I couldn't understand if I was supposed to hate him? love him? curse him? when it was revealed who he was, I wanted him gone. and then four seasons later he was gone I despised him, but at the same time found him so fascinating. this was the character I was more drawn to. I was more interested in him than to know who raymond reddington was. tom keen won me over before any other character could, and that too when his growth had barely started.

TOM KEEN APPRECIATION WEEK
Day four: Favorite Undercover Op?
Answer: Anytime I can see spy Tom Keen is a favorite of mine. BUT oh man did I love the Alexander Kirk episode. This time he went undercover to keep his daughter safe but to find Elizabeth’s killer (knowing she was alive the entire time). It’s one of my faves. How he can easily go from being a protective father to being a spy in seconds and vice versa. While I don’t condone the whole robbery part, did you see how quick Tom’s mindset changed as soon as he learned the little girl was shot? His instincts as a father kicked in. In this episode you saw the good in him even while him being a spy/undercover. It’s a different side we never saw before. His emotions were clear. He was a father now. This once cool and emotionless spy is gone. He wanted what was best for Agnes and he’d do anything to make sure that happened. Hands down a true favorite ep of mine —plus a way to introduce Redemption into the mix.

day 3: favourite character growth moment
tom keen as a dad: the change we saw in him because of his little girl was immense. she was the light at the of the tunnel. despite not having any father figures in his life, he loved his daughter endlessly. so much can be said about tom, but I think most people, when they leave their bias aside, will agree that he was a great dad and that he loved his little girl more than anything else in the world. agnes was his dream and his hope. she was the peace amidst all the chaos.

Tom Keen Appreciation Week 2020, Day Two: Favourite Romantic Moment
Tom coming home.
This is such a hard one to choose because there are so many good ones. To me, though, this one called back to so many little pieces of the way they flirt with each other, the way they are with each other. From him picking her up and carrying her to her cupping his chin and holding his gaze to Tom reminding her yet again that they never actually got married... maybe they should fix that? Sex first. Right. Okay 😂
They’ve missed each other, they love each other, and there’s no question in that moment how excited they are just to be around the other again.

TOM KEEN APPRECIATION WEEK
Day three: Favorite Character Growth Moment?
Answer: I would feel wrong if I didn’t say the Tom Keen episode as it was the start of it all. This episode is where we got to see a different side to Tom. It changed everything for me. He went from being a character I disliked to a character I loved in one episode. He was in love with her. He would do anything to protect her, even go to jail for her. He didn’t care what would happen to him, he only cared about what would happen to her. In the end of this episode he asked her if she was okay. And that was it, Tom Keen sold me. We finally got to see under the facade he put on from season one to this point. It was beautiful. It made me realize that he probably was always in love with her (proven in the vanessa cruz episode — you made me feel moment). From then on I was a Keen2 shipper and a total Tom fan. His character growth will always be amazing to watch — and let’s be real, rewatch all over again.

Tom Keen Appreciation Week, Day Six: Favourite Episode or Scene for Tom
2.18 (Vanessa Cruz) aka Tom learning how to swim
While Drexel is likely my favourite overall episode, Vanessa Cruz holds a special place in my heart for this turning point for Tom. At this point he’s taken some big risks. Even after going against Red’s orders by marrying her and then being willing to double-cross Berlin in exchange for his freedom, he’s gone to the feds to be willing to go to prison to protect Liz and then betrayed Bud directly by leaving him to the Germans. The one thing he isn’t willing to do at the beginning of this episode, even for Liz, is admit that he worked for Red.
And that makes sense. The people that used to protect him are now hunting him and he’s alone out in the cold. The last thing he would want to do is paint another target on his back by giving away Red’s secret. The truth doesn’t come naturally to him anyway, but he’s also terrified and alone. He needs to get out of town fast... but he also doesn’t want to leave her. You can see it in the way he jumps at the opportunity to help and the way he tells her about his boat and shares his probably unrealistic future plans, almost like he wants her to go with him.
It isn’t until the end when she tells him that he doesn't get to pick and choose what truths he wants to tell if he wants to learn how to swim that he takes the advice to heart and makes what I would argue is the real turning point in his redemption arc. With the world against him and no promise of any benefit other than Liz knowing the truth, he tells her. He’s learning how to swim.

TOM KEEN APPRECIATION WEEK
Day seven: Most Meaningful Quote/Line?
Answer: I MEAN ALL OF THEM. Like seriously, all of them. I can’t just choose one so I’m going to name the ones I absolutely love that was either said by Tom or said about him.
“I can’t believe you came back...”
“Of course I came back, as soon as I heard I came back, are you alright?”
“You had a plan. The boat.”
“I wish you would’ve came with me.”
“I thought you wanted out of this life, out of the secrets and the lies and the risk...I don’t want to be the one who drags you back in.”
“Your not, you haven’t.”
“Listen Tom, I’ve done some terrible things....”
“I don’t care what you’ve done. Liz I know who you are. I use to take that for granted for a long time but I don’t now. So you’re right I do have to do this, I’m coming to save you....It’s too late I’m already in.”
“In where, what have you done?”
“I gotta go, I love you.”
“We don’t save people Gina, we drown them. And I’m tired of hurting people...”
“I didn’t now where else to go...”
“I’ve been running since I was 14. It’s all I’ve ever known.”
“Turning in myself to save you saved me.”
“There was no indication that he would become emotionally involved”
“Her names Elizabeth.”
“When I heard your relationship became intimate I fired him. But it was too late, you were already in love with him.”
“I meant what I said. They’re my past. You and Agnes are my future.”
“We have so much to look forward to.”
“...If you promise you’ll never ever touch Elizabeth Keen.”
“You know all this time you never asked me if I ever loved you.”
“Because I know the answer.”
“I don’t think you do.”
