There's another funny mistranslation later in the episode when Memole says the same thing when they actually encounter a cat, though you can tell from context what she really said.

Today on “Jokes Only for me”: Very Early Sonic lore states that Sonic was born on a fictional place called Christmas Island, named after the IRL Island the US & England test bombs on during the war (according to Yuji Naka it’s because they felt it was a fitting place to mix robotics & nature)

However! The English dub for Tongari Boushi no Memole (Wee Wendy) renames the little island they live on to “Christmas Island” because Memole’s hat is red I guess and the localizers were trying to make it a Xmas movie

So instead I like to believe that baby Sonic & Memole came from the same little fairy island neighborhood
