#Tower Defense Games
Videogames I wish were real #14
A videogame that is the opposite of a dungeon crawler. Basically, Super Mario Maker meets the tower defense genre: you are an architect/designer, a very special one. You get hired to design dungeons, tombs, mazes, etc. that will stop thieves and murderers adventurers from stealing the treasures inside or killing the dungeon's inhabitants for loot or drops. Sometimes the people that hire you are humans trying to protect their riches or their sacred artifacts, other times it's creatures trying to protect themselves and their homes. When designing dungeons you can pick the layout and decorations, and as for the protecting the dungeon part... you can station creatures wherever you wish that will try to fight off any invaders, you can add saferooms, secret passages, fake relics and fake treasure chests... And when it comes to traps, you can add trick levers, pressure plates, tripwires, etc. that trigger all kinds of traps. The traps can be either non lethal (like sleeping darts or paralyzing slimes) or lethal (which let's be honest, are the more entertaining ones). Many of the lethal traps are classics, such as spikey floors or walls, poison arrows, huge swinging axes, and good ol' giant boulders that smash anything on their path. All your dungeons feature some sort of surveillance system and each time someone tries to break inside one you get to sit back and enjoy the show. For research purposes, obviously.
Similar videogames that actually exist: Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess (suggested by @ramenheim)
Other similar things that actually exist: the card game Boss Monster (suggested by @of-stars-and-pens)

Kunitsu-Gami seems to be exactly the type of action game out of the mainstream gaming industry I’ve been eager for lately. A Shinto-influenced Mythological Fantasy setting that steps away from straight up and down western medieval fantasy, one part plate-spinning Tower Defense + one part flashy character action, and an Original IP not locked to the current obsession with live service elements or always online requirements which gaming execs have drooled over the past near decade. Shot up to the top of my wishlist after the Gameplay Overview Trailer:

In many ways, like Hi-Fi Rush before it, it injects a similar bit of hope in me for at least a part of the AAA gaming industry that has been sapped away through tripe like Kill The Justice League, Marvel Avengers, Starfield, Gotham Knights, AC Valhalla, Skull & Bones, Silent Hill Ascension etc. I’ve got nothing but kudos to grant Capcom for both this & Dragon’s Dogma 2!

I beat the final level on Vampire Survivors after downloading it last night and then looked it up online to see if I had missed any big secrets and found that
1. Everybody is saying don’t bother with Garlic, but using Poe and maxing Garlic is how I cleared a few levels (plus focusing on projectiles)
2. Folks talking about prioritizing upgrades… I found it super easy to earn gold, idk. I unlocked everything? Was I supposed to respec? I never really needed to
3. Apparently most people find it suuuper difficult, but I did not. This was a fun multitasking game to listen to a podcast to once I figured it out, I only failed a few times on the first level before I got the hang of it. I unlocked the yellow page and then looked it up afterward to see what that meant, and the walkthroughs talked about how difficult it might be. Meanwhile I played Poe for that level and just hobbled him all the way to the end of the hallway first try ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The answer to your problems may be to unlock more things, I had bought up almost all the upgrades at that point, including movement speed
Anyway that was $3 well spent, that will be one of my, “my brain doesn’t feel good enough to play a hard game, but I would like some dopamine” fallback games for sure

New to Arknights  con’t
Every new banner I try to do a 10 pull even if I’m not interested in the 6 stars because hey, guaranteed 5-6 star. So today I got lucky with the new banner and ended up with this lovely character.

Let me tell you about this pink haired doggo (update: I have been informed she is actually a cat). This dog (cat) is the absolute coolest. You plop her on a ranged tile and she does some damage like normal. Then her skill fills up and she does her best Chong-Li impression
Tumblr media
She points at an enemy and then that enemy dies. That’s it. That’s the whole description. That’s her skill. Point at enemy. Enemy dies. Point at new enemy. That enemy dies too. Repeat until the skill runs out.
YOU!

Dead.

Dead.
YOU! YOU! YOU!

Dead.Dead.Dead.
It’s incredible. It has infinite range so you can just plop her down away from harm and delete things from afar.
She’s also super cute. Look at the headband! This is what peak destructive force looks like.
