#500, a troodon with fluff based on a brown thrasher! I’ll be taking the next few weeks off from this project and will be back with more birds near the end of the month.
Requests for birds are open, updates happen on Thursdays. [project tag] | [kofi] [commissions] Find me on: [twitter]

Thrasher’s Forest
Tumblr media
This brown thrasher (Toxostoma rufum) was in an oak tree in the forest behind my house. I believe these birds are mostly unique to the Eastern United States, but individuals have been spotted elsewhere.
"The Brown Thrasher is considered a short-distance migrant, but two individuals have been recorded in Europe: one in England and another in Germany." - allaboutbirds.org

Out deadheading my Mother in Law's Roses (Rosa spp. cv Unknown) in the back- not just for Rose Syrup, but also because Lord knows she never bothers caring for them her damned self- and I got to see a Downy Woodpecker (Dryobates Pubescens) back in the Pecan Tree (Carya Illinoinensis) for the first time again in years 😍 Also got to see a big ole' Gray Catbird (Dumetella Carolinensis), I think, for the first time- which was super neat!

ETA: Oh, I forgot to mention. I was throwing the frisbee for Whisper (our Pit x Boxer mix) early and saw that the Mississippi Kites (Ictinia Mississippiensis) are back; thought I'd heard them yesterday, but wasn't sure if it was a Northern Mockingbird (Mimus Polyglottos) mimicking them again- because they've absolutely tricked me before- but today confirmed that nope! They're back in the area again, finally! Only caught sight of one juvenile overhead, but that's the first spot of the year so far 🥰
Also got to see two Brown Thrashers (Toxostoma Rufum) duking it out over who got to sit in the Eastern Redbud (Cercis Canadensis) in the back. Which frankly was kinda funny to see; 10 / 10 would watch that show again. Though maybe next time with more Popcorn and less dog demanding my constant attention, ha.
And on another really interesting note, three times now my Husband and I have spotted a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher (Tyrannus Forficatus) on a wire on our way our to WalMart inside town limits. Which is beyond fascinating because they really don't like urban environments in any capacity. So I'll be super interested in keeping an eye on that little dude throughout the year and see if it manages to mate or hatch a successful brood inside town.
