4 reasons to get the 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition
Toyota is revving its engines for the 2024 Toyota GR lineup - and a new trim is being added to the 2024 Orlando Toyota GR86 lineup: the TRUENO Edition (it means ‘thunder’ in Spanish). Many Toyota fans are excited about this trim because it celebrates its throwback design - the Toyota AE86 from the 1980s. But, what does this trim have that makes it so special? We’re going to make it simple for you.

What we love about the 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition
#1: The design – and its throwback features
The Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition features retro two-toned paint and ‘TRUENO Edition’ badging. As said earlier, it is styled like the Toyota AE86 as an homage to its 40th anniversary. The Toyota AE86 was a part of the 5th generation of Toyota Corollas from 1984 to 1987 and showcased sporty liftback styling, pop-up headlights, and an angular hood.  But, it also has a modern look with its 10-spoke 18-inch black metallic wheels, a black duckbill spoiler, the black TRUENO graphics on the side panels, and two paint colors to choose from - Halo or Track bRed.

#2 - See what’s inside
We talked about the exterior – now it’s time to go inside this Orlando Toyota’s cockpit. When you go inside you’ll see that it is extremely comfortable and easy to manage with the low-slung, driver-centric layout with the push-start button, 8-inch touchscreen audio system with 8 premium speakers. You’re going to be sitting in Ultrasuede sport seats with red leather, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, special all-weather floor mats with ‘TRUENO’ badging, and red-stitched shift gear.
Since the beginning of time, Toyota has been all about safety – and it doesn’t stop at this Orlando Toyota sportscar. It comes standard with Active Safety Suite with Pre-Collision Braking System, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Sway Warning, and Automatic High Beams.
Tumblr media
#3 - The speed.
Toyota has never failed when it comes to reliability - and if you want to go 0-60 mph in just 6.6 seconds? You’ll be able to with the 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition. This Orlando Toyota sportscar can do this with its naturally aspirated 2.4L FA-24 engine – the horsepower is 228 and the torque is at 184 lb.-ft. It also has rear-wheel drive and comes in both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition has special perks – and even if you aren’t able to get it on your hands, you can add it to any GR86 year and/or trim. The special performance package includes ZF SACHS Dampers and Brembo brakes that offer maximized performance. This new package ensures firm and stable steering, maximized ground contact, and a quieter cabin.
Tumblr media
#4 - The NASA membership
The 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition comes with a complimentary one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association – which makes your experience even better. With this membership, the 860 GR86 TRUENO Edition owners (yes we said 860) will be able to receive discounts on NASA-sanctioned events and other benefits – like one free High-Performance Driving Event.
Channel the Initial D car in this new Toyota special edition
Not only Toyota sportscar fans are excited about this trim being added to the Orlando Toyota GR86 lineup - but also anime fans. Initial D is a manga-turned-anime that focuses on the evolution of Takumi Fujiwara where he becomes a downhill racing hero in a Toyota AE86 – which the 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition takes stylistic cues from. So, the car has been coined the name ‘initial D car’.

The AE86 series of the Toyota Corolla Levin and Toyota Sprinter Trueno are small, front-engine/rear-wheel-drive models within the front-engine/front-wheel-drive fifth generation Corolla (E80) range—marketed by Toyota from 1983 to1987in coupé and liftback configurations.This vehicle has a 2 door coupé type body with a front mounted engine powering the rear wheels. The Sprinter Trueno forms part of Toyota's AE86 family of cars. It is powered by a naturally aspirated engine of 1.6 litre capacity. This unit features double overhead camshaft valve gear, 4 cylinder layout, and 4 valves per cylinder. It produces 128 bhp (130 PS/95 kW) of power at 6600 rpm, and maximum torque of 149 N·m (110 lb·ft/15.2 kgm) at 5200 rpm. Power is delivered to the wheels through a 5 speed manual transmission. The Toyota Sprinter Trueno weighs a stated 905 kg at the kerb. Its maximum speed claimed is 180 km/h, which is 112 mph. For me,this car is still the best even though it's an old design, the coolest car that i really want to own someday.

Until 2018, in North America at least, it had been decades since the #ToyotaCorolla was available as anything except a workaday 4-door sedan. But in the 1970s and early 1980s there were many, many varieties of Corolla. The original 1968 E10 had three bodies, the 1970 E20 had four, 1975’s E30 had six, and 1980’s E70 Corolla had eight! The wagon-like (but stripped-down) “vans” stayed in Japan, but from 1979-83, Toyota offered a trio of Corolla Coupes, all rear-drive and all fairly fun to drive. In later years, these would become popular cars to modify as they’re light, small, and rear-wheel drive (indeed, they are the basis of the AE86 Corolla), so seeing an unmolested one is rare now. The chief engineer on the E70-series Corollas, Fumio Agetsuma, joined Toyota in 1955 and worked his way up the ladder doing body design on the Corona and Mark II, eventually joining the Corolla team in 1969 and then becoming lead engineer on the Corolla in 1974. Supposedly, on a visit to the Netherlands, Agetsuma heard the E30’s leaf springs compared to those of a carriage, and decided a coil-spring rear suspension would supplant the old design, except on wagons. That was only part of Agetsuma’s goal, making a richer, more feature-packed car that was right for every purse and purpose. Extensive market research was done with the goal of retaining customers and making the appeal as broad as possible. It was, after all, Toyota’s export champion. Power steering, sunroofs, and a nicer interior appeared. In the USA, Corollas definitely didn’t feel “rich,” but then, only Japan got the best ones. There were nicer trims and 9 different engines capped by the ~115hp DOHC 2T-GEU 1.6, though most JDM cars were more humble. In the U.S., just two engines were used: the 1.7L 3T-C from 1980-82, and the SOHC 4A-C in 1983. The cars bowed in late 1979 as 1980 models. Informed by OPEC 1, the E70s looked boxy but were actually far more aerodynamic than their forebears. Casting a wide buyer net was what led Toyota to create a hardtop coupe, a fastback coupe, *and* a 3-door liftback wagon coupe. They weren’t fast overall but they looked good, drove well, and seemed to live forever in rust-free places. https://www.instagram.com/p/CMF0NnClxr4/?igshid=1sm5fejs6aziy

Junkyard Gem: 1983 Toyota Corolla Liftback Coupe sadly crusher bound
The rear-wheel-drive AE72 Toyota Corolla was sold in the United States alongside the completely unrelated “Corolla Tercel,” then was replaced by the front-wheel-drive AE82 and the rear-wheel-drive AE86 Corollas. Here’s a late AE72 liftback coupe, found in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service wrecking yard.
The Hachiroku AE86 came with a twin-cam 4AGE engine, while this car has a…
