i think "nonbinary" can be useful but a lot of times the way it is being used isn't helpful to actually discussing nonbinary people, especially since it is a HUGE umbrella term with very few boundaries. like there are nonbinary men & women, so positioning "nonbinary" as something intrinsically separate from man/woman isn't accurate. or there are times where it would be more useful to name the specific group (like multigender people, androgynes, abinary/aphorians) rather than a much vaguer term
in general the problem is that our language to describe nonbinary existence is basically some scraps held together with duct tape. there's sooo many ways in which nonbinary people are erased or binaried through language. not just through the lack of gender neutral options but the la of blatantly genderqueer ones.
i kinda feel like as of right now, nonbinary-ness is pretty slapdash & all over the place and it would be helpful to have a large-scale discussion on what terminology would be best for discussing things like exorsexism and it's various aspects, and how to talk about nonbinary people without homogenizing us, while ALSO acknowledging the need for umbrella terms that can cover a range of individual identities, even if people don't personally identify with the umbrella term itself. & on that note we should also probably discuss the issue of. like. perfectionism wrt nonbinary language & the way that potentially useful terms get lost bc of it. I don't think nonbinary people can really achieve meaningful equality and inclusion on the same level until we are able to have equally diverse and useful ways of describing ourselves, and a stronger understanding of how we relate to each other as a community.

I always feel like a broken record for saying this, but there is literally no form of transphobia that is acceptable. All transphobia is harmful - all forms of bigotry toward a group for features they cannot change (in this case, being trans) is harmful. It doesn't matter what gender a trans person is, it doesn't matter if they are a Good Person, it doesn't matter if you like them or want to see them happy. None of that matters because transphobia is transphobia is transphobia.

Friendly reminder that not all trans people who transition have the goal of passing.
Not all trans people want to look cis.
Not all trans people want to take hormones.
Not all trans people want to have surgery.
Not all trans people change their name or pronouns.
And that's all okay.

and another thing. this is hardly related to what i just rbed and i dont want to speak over op so im making it its own post. but there are people who straight up just use ‘fem presenting’ to mean ‘i think you look feminine’. not even in terms of having a stereotypically female body but like. ok me for example. i bind, i never wear skirts/dresses, i have pretty short hair, i dont wear makeup, the only jewelry i wear is bracelets and rings. and i have had ppl call me ‘fem presenting’ irl. like its really just straight up becoming a way to say I Think You Seem Like A Girl without technically misgendering you.

I hate it when people equate amab non-binary people with masculine non-binary people and afab non-binary people with feminine non-binary people.
Like, shut up! And stop recreating the fucking gender binary or I will hit you over the head with a baseball bat.

Gender Passing Pride Flags
Cis-passing Pride Flag
Tumblr media
Cis-passing (or simply passing): a transgender person’s ability to be correctly perceived as the gender they identify as and beyond that, to not be perceived as transgender; to be passable as cisgender.
Trans-passing Pride Flag
Tumblr media
Trans-passing (or non-passing): a transgender person's ability to be perceived as transgender; or a person who is perceived as trans despite not being one.
The flag format is based on straight-passing flag. Image descriptions pending.

I wish trans people weren’t sorted into the two narrow categories of “passing” and “non-passing” when it’s so much more complicated than that. Some people sort of pass, or sometimes do and sometimes don’t, and the whole concept of “passing” is complicated anyway! Also I look, sound, and dress exactly like my agab, so I don’t really fall into either category. I’m not visibly trans, but I can’t say I “pass” as my actual gender either

I adore the trans regulus headcannon and it’s something that brings me so much comfort, but I feel that we always just say he cuts his hair and wears stereotypical boys clothes and suddenly he passes completely, and I just feel as though we should sometimes delve much deeper into him NOT passing, and how that affects the way he lives life, because not everyone’s trans journeys are the same, and not everyone passes, and yet in things like fanfics and stories the trans characters pass even though that’s not true to the experiences of lots of trans people, and although I don’t know if other non passing trans people feel like this, it makes me feel like I’m less or not valid because people wouldn’t look at me and think that I was a boy.

Prob gonna delete but that fact that it was women who attacked and murdered Nex in that bathroom is so sinister but so telling. I feel like everyone expects gender violence against trans non-binary and (in this case) two spirit people to be committed by cishet men as if cishet woman aren’t equally as capable of horrific gender-based acts like this if not more so bc of their little safety blanket of shit like “women and non-binary” or whatever. TERFs cry all the fucking time about keeping bathrooms safe and all that but when a group of CIS WOMEN murder a two spirit CHILD in a bathroom it’s crickets. Not even gonna finish with some “cis women hold each other accountable” sentiment. It’s just sick. You are all sick and this murder has never made that clearer

I will never get over the fact that people will gender me correctly but the moment I admit or talk about being trans they intentionally use the wrong pronouns
Your putting in more effort to be transphobic then to not
