North America once housed more beavers than humans — by a lot. Even before Europeans showed up and built an entire extractive economy on beaver pelts, estimates put the number in the hundreds of millions (during the Pleistocene, there were even giant species of beaver, as large as bears). The North American fur trade, which lasted for centuries, nearly wiped beavers off the continent — and, unknown to trappers, vastly changed its ecosystems from sea to sea. “There is evidence that riverscapes across the West were much more complex and ‘anastomosed’ prior to European colonization,” says Nicholas Kolarik, a Ph.D. student working with Brandt, who is focusing on mapping data sets of wetlands. Anastomosis denotes branches connecting two things, like organs in the body, but in this case, he means streams, since waterways in the U.S. West used to be much more interconnected. Today, they’re “starved of wood,” he says, but by adding wood into streams and rivers, especially by building dams, beavers slow water down significantly. “In doing so, sediment is stored, water infiltrates into the aquifers, riparian vegetation establishes, habitat is created, and carbon is stored,” Kolarik says.
[...]
“Beavers maintain healthy riverscapes which store carbon and water. Consistent access to water is key to mitigating the effects of climate disturbances like drought.” Beavers’ role as firefighters has already been documented in Idaho. A 2018 technical report by Anabranch Solutions, a river restoration company, found that beavers were a major factor in decreasing burn intensity along Baugh Creek during that year’s Sharps Fire. “Where active beaver dams were present, native riparian vegetation persisted, unburnt,” the authors wrote. In our hotter and fierier world, beavers are a buffer.

Little Moments
Dbd x fem!reader
Authors note: pretty sure I didn’t use any fem pronouns, but I don’t wanna label it a gn!reader just in case I did. If anything I’ll go back and edit later.
Edit: I fixed it to be gn!reader to be more inclusive!!
Anyways pure fluff
Characters: Trapper, Huntress, Deathslinger, Ghostface, Hillbilly
Tumblr media
Trapper:
I feel like this goes without saying, but you’re definitely stuck in one of his traps. You were the last survivor and that was intentional. See, Evan gets a little excited with you in his trials. You both aren’t together… yet, but he likes to think it’ll be sooner than later. He cares for you, that’s for sure. You both have little moments here and there that can be sweet. They’re just a little too short for his liking. He hopes you enjoy those moments as well. He was still on the hunt for you, trying to find you, but this map was getting too confusing for him at the moment. He heard your whimpering and quickly went in your direction.
You look up at Evan and whimpered a small “Please help me out. It hurts, Evan.” He kneeled down and quickly opened the bear trap, releasing your leg. You didn’t miss the fact that he brought over a med pack. He wrapped up your leg gently and picked you up over his shoulder. “Excuusee me, sir. I think we both know you don’t have to hold me like this when we’re the only two people here,” you said with some sass and a small, but harmless smack to his back. Evan chuckled and instead of holding you like the royalty you are, he gave you a small, not as harmless smack against your ass. You squeaked from how hard he smacked it and pouted when he didn’t change his hold on you.
You guess you can live with it since you notice he’s passing all the hooks and gingerly avoiding his traps. You notice he’s heading towards the hatch and you try to prop up the top part of your body so that you slide down a bit in Evan’s grip. He grunted and caught you with his other arm, your legs wrapped themselves around his waist and you smiled at his mask. You put a lil kiss on his masked cheek and he turned his head towards you. “See you back at your place?” you ask as he puts you on your feet gently. He put a hand on your cheek and gave a small nod. You smiled again and went in for a quick hug. As you both pulled away, you gave a small pinch to his butt, making him jump and you quickly ran towards the exit with a giggle.
Tumblr media
Huntress:
It had been a while since you were in a trial with Anna. Not that it put you at ease, but it certainly made you feel a little less stressed considering she would wait, only jokingly chasing you at times until she saw another survivor. Soon enough there were only two survivors left, one of them being you. You tried helping Leon, but he didn’t want you to risk yourself for him. You both were working on the last generator when you heard her humming in the distance. “Finish the generator, I’ll get her to chase me for a bit. Be careful.” Leon said as he ran away towards the humming. You were always surprised by how nice Leon could be towards you, even at the end of the trial and even when you guys were exhausted.
You were fixing the last part of the generator and sighed in relief when it roared alive. Hearing the latch creek in the distance, you stood up and tried to listen for Leon on the way toward safety and you heard him yell out your name. You turned around and saw him running towards you with an angry Anna behind him about to throw her hatchet. However, Leon was too close for comfort when Anna threw her hatchet and you yelled for Leon to duck and you barely just dodged the missile as it scraped your shoulder. Anna saw how it just got you and she halted to a stop as you and Leon made it through the hatch and made it back to camp. You sigh as you sit down for a moment to catch your breath.
You can still feel the sting of the cut on your shoulder. You can feel someone staring you down from the forest. You know who it is instantly. You slowly get up while everyone is chatting and give a small pat on Leon’s shoulder as you head for the treeline. As you walk deeper into the forest you know she’s following you and you stop near a river that you find and sit on top of a rock nearby. The wound is finally closed, you just feel the sting still on your shoulder. You call over your shoulder, “Anna, you can come over. I’m not going to bite,” you say with a small smile. You can barely hear her approach you but she gently sits down next to you, looking at the ground. You can tell she’s upset about hurting you and you softly grab her hand. You lean your head against her shoulder and whisper a small, “I know you didn’t mean to hurt me. I know it was an accident.” She looks at where she hurt you, only to see it healed already. She feels more at ease knowing you forgive her and that you’re not in any more physical pain. She breathes in deeply and turns to wrap her arms around you and starts humming. You relax in her embrace and you play with her hands for a while until one of you gets pulled back into a trial.
Tumblr media
Deathslinger:
You wake up gasping for breath. Another trial failed. You stare up at the stars for a few moments and groan as you try to sit up. You’re further from the survivor camp than you expected and look at the tree line. You’re getting tired of how boring the survivor's camp has been. You decided it was time to start heading towards the one realm you’ve always felt welcomed in.
You finally stepped foot into the scorching sun and decided to take off the stupid jacket you’ve been wearing, sweating, and bleeding in. At least you have a tank top that’s white. Attracts less heat in this wild west place.
You don’t even realize you’re in front of the saloon until you walk through the swinging doors. Caleb side-eyes you as he took a sip of his whiskey. He puts his glass down and leans over the bar to grab another glass as you walk towards him and sit next to him with a blank face. He’s pouring you a drink as he notices your faraway stare. “What’s on yer mind darlin’? I ain’t ever seen ya look so glum,” he gruffly says to you. You can’t help but feel at ease in his presence. You take a big gulp of your drink and wince slightly at the burn going down your throat. It's been a while since you’ve gotten to be with Caleb. You care for him so deeply and you know he cares for you too. You just don’t know how much. “Caleb… I-...” you don’t even know how to word it without sounding desperate. You feel him put some strands of hair behind your ear and then he caresses your cheek with his finger. “My sweet thang. You ain’t never been so quiet,” he said with a small smile. You finally ease up some more as you turn to look at him and his hand cups your cheek. “I love you, Caleb. I just really miss you lately.” you finally say. “My word. It’s ‘bout time you said it. I’ been waitin’ for you to say it first, sweetheart.” he leaned in and put a sickly soft kiss on your lips. “I love you more than anythin’.” Caleb said. You smile in relief and grab your glass and raise it to him. He snorts and raises his glass and clinks it against yours. “To me ‘n you darlin’.”
Tumblr media
Ghostface:
You groan at the flash that keeps going off. “Danny, if you don’t chill it with the flash, I’m going to get a migraine,” you whine. He chuckles as he finally stops, “Alright, alright. You’re lucky I got enough for now, sweet cheeks.” “Oh yeah? I’m lucky? No, I think you’re lucky I let you take cute photos of me.” You said as you jumped on top of him trying to wrestle the camera out of his hands. You and Danny tossed each other around, throwing in a lil WWE moves, for the dramatics of course, and you somehow got on top. With a victorious laugh and quick hands, you grab the camera and snap as many pictures as you can of Danny’s laughing face. He grabs you by the hips and turns you guys around and onto your back. You move the camera far and away from yourself, thus, away from Danny. He doesn’t even try to reach for it. You look up at him as he cages your head between his arms.
“Ya know. For this place being as much as a shithole as it is, I’m glad I got you out of it.” You felt the blood rush to your face, not expecting something so sweet to come out of him. “I-... I can’t believe you think that,” you said, almost shocked. “Yeah, well, good luck hearing something like that come out of me again. You totally ruined the moment.” He sighed with a small, fake, pout. You couldn’t help but laugh, he smiled immediately as you giggled out an “Oh, I ruined the moment? Me?” you try to suppress the giggles as you bite your lip. You two lay there as you look into each other’s eyes. You both relax from the giggle fest and he leans down slowly to leave a small kiss on your lips. After that, he leans his head down into the crook of your neck and lays all his body weight onto you. What a perfectly weighted blanket you have. You run your fingers through his hair and press a small kiss on his temple. “I’m keeping those pictures I took of you by the way,” you said into his hair as you press another kiss there. He presses a kiss to your collarbone and with a small sigh he responds with a “Fine by me.”
Tumblr media
Hillbilly:
You were running through the cornfields, breathing heavily. You can hear him behind you with his uneven stomps. You find a tree with taller corn stalks around it and you go around it and hide behind the tree. You hear him call out. You put your hand over your mouth to calm your breathing. You hear him getting closer… and closer… and then… silence. You hear nothing around you but the breeze going through the tall grass and corn stalks. You decide you’re in the clear and look around the tree. Just as you turn your head, you feel rough hands go around your waist. You let out a shriek and turn around to see Max with a small grin on his face. He lets out a tiny giggle behind his hand as you let out a small sigh.
“I guess I’m it now, huh Maxie?” He nods a little and squats a bit so he can be on your level face-to-face. You give him a big smile and say “I guess you want your reward, big guy?” He groaned out a small “uh-huh” and you leaned into his face and gave him a small kiss on the corner of his lips. “Ok, so now that I’m it, you have to start running ok? Once I get ya, I’m getting one of your famous bear hugs as a prize.” You smile real big and give him a kiss on his cheek. “You better start running, Maxie. Imma get that hug from you!” you giggle and you try to reach out, but he moves just out of reach as you go for him again. Doing this makes him giggle as he runs away with you hot on his trail also giggling.
He hasn’t been giddy like this before and he likes the affection you give him. Max slows down a little cause he looked over his shoulder to see how close you were. When he turns he doesn’t see you and a little part of him panics. Where did you go? You were right behind him? He turns back to the direction he was originally going to go and he nearly jumps out of his skin as he feels you jump and wrap your legs around his waist. He hears your giggles of “I got ya!” and you press kisses all over his face as he wraps his arms around your waist and makes small noises of happiness. He flushed a little feeling you pressed up against him, but most of all, he felt safe. He tightened his hold on you and started heading towards the house. All he wants is to cuddle and eat some of your cooking. The whole walk was just a bunch of loving words from you and happy noises from him.
Lmk what you guys think!!!
Requests are open!!

Kicks my feet hey sweet one what's your fave Henry ship twiddles thumbs
Literally could not pay me to choose between Hawkeye/Henry/Trapper or Henry/Klinger. I think I have even thought about Hawkeye/Henry/Trapper/Klinger once.
The thing is that Trapper and Hawkeye know they can get away with murder if they keep Henry well fucked and doted on, but they keep getting more and more fond of him as the days go by so he's just less and less of a ticket to good booze and the occasional extra day of R&R. Unfortunately for both of them, Henry's an adorable goober.
It is also an indisputable fact that Henry would've thrown it all away for Klinger if given a little more encouragement. He got that man pregnant. He has a photo in his wallet of Klinger for forever now.
I had the thought that one day, Klinger gets up shit creek and Henry has to go to Tokyo with him to plead his case in some way, and they succeed and Klinger is safe, but Henry walks out of there literally shaking just from the level of stress he's under right now, and when Klinger's playfully like, "Aw, c'mon, sir, aren't you the one that's in charge of the R&R around here? Requisition yourself an emergency pass or something! What's the point in having to make all the big calls when you can't even enjoy it every once and a while?" And Henry is about to tell him that he can't do that, he has too much work to do, but at the last moment he's like, "No, you know what? Yeah. Yeah, I am in charge of that!"
And that's how the 4077th gets a call from Tokyo that Frank is in charge for the next 72 hours. Chaos ensues back in the camp because nobody wants to tell him. Meanwhile in Tokyo, Henry and Klinger are drunk and making a break for it, going AWOL FOR REAL—except they get all the way to the gate and pass out drunkenly right outside it. Dragged back to the hotel by MPs like losers. But at least they get to cuddle up all night.

Fool Thunder and family. Hunkpapa Lakota. 1880 ❤
The Hunkpapa (Lakota: Húŋkpapȟa) are a Native American group, one of the seven council fires of the Lakota tribe. The name Húŋkpapȟa is a Lakota word, meaning "Head of the Circle" (at one time, the tribe's name was represented in European-American records as Honkpapa). By tradition, the Húŋkpapȟa set up their lodges at the entryway to the circle of the Great Council when the Sioux met in convocation. They speak Lakȟóta, one of the three dialects of the Sioux language.
Seven hundred and fifty mounted Yankton, Yanktonai and Lakota joined six companies of the Sixth Infantry and 80 fur trappers in an attack on an Arikara Indian village at Grand River (now South Dakota) in August 1823, named the Arikara War. Members of the Lakota, a part of them "Ankpapat", were the first Native Americans to fight in the American Indian Wars alongside US forces west of the Missouri.
They may have formed as a tribe within the Lakota relatively recently, as the first mention of the Hunkpapa in European-American historical records was from a treaty of 1825.
By signing the 1825 treaty, the Hunkpapa and the United States committed themselves to keep up the "friendship which has heretofore existed". With their x-mark, the chiefs also recognized the supremacy of the United States. It is not certain whether they really understood the text in the document. The US representatives gave a medal to Little White Bear, who they understood was the principal Hunkpapa chief; they did not realize how decentralized Native American authority was.
With the Indian Vaccination Act of 1832, the United States assumed responsibility for the inoculation of the Indians against smallpox. Some visiting Hunkpapa may have benefitted from Dr. M. Martin's vaccination of about 900 southern Lakota (no divisions named) at the head of Medicine Creek that autumn. When smallpox struck in 1837, it hit the Hunkpapa as the northernmost Lakota division. The loss, however, may have been fewer than one hundred people.Overall, the Hunkpapa seem to have suffered less from new diseases than many other tribes did.
The boundaries for the Lakota Indian territory were defined in the general peace treaty negotiated near Fort Laramie in the summer of 1851. Leaders of eight different tribes, often at odds with each other and each claiming large territories, signed the treaty. The United States was a ninth party to it. The Crow Indian territory included a tract of land north of the Yellowstone, while the Little Bighorn River ran through the heartland of the Crow country (now Montana). The treaty defines the land of the Arikara, the Hidatsa and the Mandan as a mutual area north of Heart River, partly encircled by the Missouri (now North Dakota).
Soon enough the Hunkpapa and other Sioux attacked the Arikara and the two other so-called village tribes, just as they had done in the past. By 1854, these three smallpox-devastated tribes called for protection from the U.S. Army, and they would repeatedly do so almost to the end of inter-tribal warfare. Eventually the Hunkpapa and other Lakota took control of the three tribes' area north of Heart River, forcing the village people to live in Like a Fishhook Village outside their treaty land. The Lakota were largely in control of the occupied area to 1876–1877.
The United States Army General Warren estimated the population of the Hunkpapa Lakota at about 2920 in 1855. He described their territory as ranging "from the Big Cheyenne up to the Yellowstone, and west to the Black Hills. He states that they formerly intermarried extensively with the Cheyenne." He noted that they raided settlers along the Platte River In addition to dealing with warfare, they suffered considerable losses due to contact with Europeans and contracting of Eurasian infectious diseases to which they had no immunity.
The Hunkpapa gave some of their remote relatives among the Santee Sioux armed support during a large-scale battle near Killdeer Mountain in 1864 with U.S. troops led by General A. Sully.
The Great Sioux Reservation was established with a new treaty in 1868. The Lakota agreed to the construction of "any railroad" outside their reservation. The United States recognized that "the country north of the North Platte River and east of the summits of the Big Horn Mountains" was unsold or unceded Indian territory. These hunting grounds in the south and in the west of the new Lakota domain were used mainly by the Sicangu (Brule-Sioux) and the Oglala, living nearby.
The "free bands" of Hunkpapa favored campsites outside the unsold areas. They took a leading part in the westward enlargement of the range used by the Lakota in the late 1860s and the early 1870s at the expense of other tribes. In search for buffalo, Lakota regularly occupied the eastern part of the Crow Indian Reservation as far west as the Bighorn River, sometimes even raiding the Crow Agency, as they did in 1873. The Lakota pressed the Crow Indians to the point that they reacted like other small tribes: they called for the U.S. Army to intervene and take actions against the intruders.
In the late summer of 1873, the Hunkpapa boldly attacked the Seventh Cavalry in United States territory north of the Yellowstone. Custer's troops escorted a railroad surveying party here, due to similar attacks the year before. Battles such as Honsinger Bluff and Pease Bottom took place on land purchased by the United States from the Crow tribe on May 7, 1868.These continual attacks, and complaints from American Natives, prompted the Commissioner of Indian Affairs to assess the full situation on the northern plains. He said that the unfriendly Lakota roaming the land of other people should "be forced by the military to come in to the Great Sioux Reservation". That was in 1873, notably one year before the discovery of gold in the Black Hills, but the US government did not take action on this concept until three years later.
The Hunkpapa were among the victors in the Battle of Little Bighorn in the Crow Indian Reservation in July 1876.
Since the 1880s, most Hunkpapa have lived in the Standing Rock Indian Reservation (in North and South Dakota). It comprises land along the Grand River which had been used by the Arikara Indians in 1823; the Hunkpapa "won the west" half a century before the whites.
During the 1870s, when the Native Americans of the Great Plains were fighting the United States, the Hunkpapa were led by Sitting Bull in the fighting, together with the Oglala Lakota. They were among the last of the tribes to go to the reservations. By 1891, the majority of Hunkpapa Lakota, about 571 people, resided in the Standing Rock Indian Reservation of North and South Dakota ...
Since then they have not been counted separately from the rest of the Lakota ...

Heres some quick doodles of Hawkeye, Bj, and Winchester's designs, just wanted to get them down color wise.
Also the blurb I wrote over on my ig talking about roles and stuff:
Hawk runs a local pub and distillery and sells moonshine with Trapper, a fur trapper, who helps advertise their moonshine across the states while he's out hunting. It never does very well, but they're both still trying to get it to take off. Klinger works at the pub as a saloon girl for extra cash, but during the day he's a tailor. Dresses, suits, frocks, you name it he can fix it. Sometimes Mulcahy stops in too, though he's a humble preacher he's also well versed in piano and plays ragtime for the bar. Bj has a little farm with Peg and Erin where they grow fresh crops, and sell cows as well as their milk. Charles is a big time doctor in one of the cities who has a private practice with his family, but due to being the eldest he was given the responsibility of becoming a traveling physician to attract more clients, much to his dismay. After the town's previous doctor, Tuttle, dies, Charles is stationed over there. Sheriff Potter keeps a watchful eye over the town with his deputies Houlihan and Burns, who are always out pinning up new bounties. The two are determined to find out who's selling bootleg hooch, but can never really figure out who ;~] (it doesn't bother Potter, he knows where it's coming from and has actually bought some from Hawk and Trap, he just thinks it's funny when his deputies scramble over something so dumb) Radar is a paperboy, somehow always bringing in the news 3 days early, nobody knows how he does it, and Henry is a fisherman who comes into town to sell his catches. Radar has a lot of free time so he often goes with him to the creek or market when he isn't hanging out with Hawk, Trap, and Beej.

I had a couple of friends (my only two friends really lol which two is far far above my historical average for friends, one is above the historical average if we're being Real) over last night to see the movie I made with my cats/co-directors and I made little tickets/keepsakes for both of them lol
Since the first short I randomly slapped together back in January which eventually ended up being incorporated into what this ended up being I liked the idea of keeping this as something I primarily just directly share with people in my own living room, like the only reason I initially put this shit online anywhere is to have an easy way to share it on here with you all in case it's of interest to anyone lol but idk like there's no way to make even five dollars off of this since I don't have the rights to any of the music playing in the background and huge chunks of certain songs/albums are in the shit lmao like almost half an hour of D'Angelo - Voodoo lmfao but like. it cost me literally nothing to make this, I shot the entire thing on my phone and cut it together on my laptop using open source software so there isn't even any cost to recoup so why not include the music I was already listening to ig and past that just share it with directly with anyone that's willing to sit through it
Back in May I was talking to one of my neighbors who is also one of the neighborhood plugs who also raps a little bit just for the fuck of it "I dont make money off music, I'm a trapper for real" (slightly paraphrased it was almost a year ago at this point), but I actually fuck with his music and listened to it of my own volition after he initially directly played a track for me and our other neighbor and the other day I was over to reup and was like 1) I made a movie off your product so truly thank you cause this doesnt happen otherwise and 2) if you check it out and anything jumps out at you we can work on a music video along those lines if you're down which who knows if we'll do that but personally I'd love to. Then he asked me why I haven't been fasting lmao, remembering that I also didn't fast last year. And that led to talking about god and history and america and the whites. He was telling me a bit about another Pakistani guy that buys from him, showed me a picture of the dude, standing with (presumably although I can't say for sure) his father and grandfather.
The picture he showed me, everything he said has been stuck in my head since. The three smiling desi faces, if I had to guess either fellow Kashmiris if not that maybe Pathaan, but especially the old man's face recalling of course my nana's. I wish I could've made a movie in Lahore with him. I do want to make one with my mom, I was thinking of incorporating clips of a walk around the creek at my parent's neighborhood with her into this video but I ended up going a different direction but I do think it could be worth it's own standalone piece. But I do want to do more of these and the process by which it came together is definitely something accessible to everyone like everyone can do this I feel, if anyone wants. But I personally do want to make one with my mom if she's down.
A few days before that aforementioned day in late May I read Prince's unfinished autobiography and among a million things in there that I have not been able to stop seeing or thinking of was what? The way he opened the first chapter with the image of his mother's eyes - the first thing 👁 saw.

THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY
based on: The White Crane Institute's 'Gay Wisdom', Gay Birthdays, Gay For Today, Famous GLBT, glbt-Gay Encylopedia, Today in Gay History, Wikipedia, and more … December 26
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1716 – Thomas Gray, the English writer, was born on this date (d.1771). "My life is now but a perpetual conversation with your shadow - The known sound of your voice still rings in my ears. I cannot bear this place, where I have spend many tedious years within less than a month, after you left me ..." So wrote Thomas Gray to a young man when he was 54. Professor of Modern History at Cambridge University and one of the best known poets of his time. He was also more than likely still a virgin, although he may have had a homosexual affair with Horace Walpole when he was younger.
The author of "An Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard," Gray had lived most of his life with his mother, but was known to have cultivated the Platonic friendship of handsome young men. One of Professor Gray's young men introduced him to the Swiss charmer, Charles de Bonstetten – and Gray was hooked. He was profoundly, deeply in love. When Bonstetten left Cambridge a year later, the poet was devastated. But the friends exchanged letters, and the young man suggested they take a walking tour together in Bonstetten's native Switzerland. Gray was overjoyed. The trip was scheduled for the summer of 1771 and Gray wrote tireless letters of devotion while counting the ticking minutes. Finally, the time was near. He would be leaving to see his handsome young man again. The poor poet dropped dead before he had taken one step out the door.

1795 – William Drummond Stewart (d.1871) was a Scottish adventurer and British military officer and homosexual. He traveled extensively in the American West for nearly seven years in the 1830s. In 1837 he took along the American artist, Alfred Jacob Miller, hiring him to do sketches of the trip. Many of his completed oil paintings of American Indian life and the Rocky Mountains originally hung in Murthly Castle, though they have now been dispersed to a number of private and public collections.
Born at Murthly Castle, Perthshire, Scotland, Stewart was the second son and one of seven children of Sir George Stewart, 17th Laird of Grandtully, 5th Baronet of Murthly and of Blair. The family decided that William would go into the Army (as his older brother would inherit his father's estate and title). After his seventeenth birthday in 1812, William asked his father to buy him a cornetcy in the 6th Dragoon Guards. After his appointment was confirmed on April 15, 1813, he immediately joined his regiment and began a programme of rigorous training.
Stewart was anxious to participate in military action; so in 1813, his father purchased for him an appointment to a Lieutenancy in the 15th King's Hussars, which was already in action during the Peninsular Campaign. In 1814, Stewart joined his regiment, subsequently seeing combat during the Waterloo campaign in 1815. In 1820, Stewart was promoted to a Captain and soon thereafter retired on half pay.
Seeking adventure, Stewart traveled to St. Louis, Missouri in 1832, where he brought letters of introduction to William Clark, Pierre Chouteau, Jr.,William Ashley and other prominent residents. He arranged to accompany Robert Campbell, who was taking a pack train to the 1833 rendezvous of mountain men, an annual all-male gathering of fur traders, a drunken debauch held each summer when trappers gathered to trade their pelts for food, liquor and manufactured goods brought to the Rockies from St. Louis by companies of fur traders.
The party left St. Louis on May 7 and attended the Horse Creek Rendezvous in the Green River Valley of Wyoming. Here Stewart met the mountain men Jim Bridger and Thomas Fitzpatrick, as well as Benjamin Bonneville, who was leading a governmental expedition in the area.
At the rendezvous Stewart met the Metis (French Canadian and Cree) hunter Antoine Clement, with whom he began a homosexual relationship. With some of the men, Stewart visited the Big Horn Mountains, wintered at Taos, and attended the next rendezvous at Ham's Fork of the Green River. Later that year, he journeyed to Fort Vancouver, Washington, at the coast of the Pacific Ocean.
Stewart attended the 1835 rendezvous at the mouth of New Fork River on the Green and reached St. Louis in November. Finding that his finances were curtailed because he brother had failed to forward his share of the estate left by their father, Stewart went to New Orleans, speculated in cotton to recoup, and wintered in Cuba.
In May, he joined Fitzpatrick's train to the Rockies for another rendezvous on Horse Creek. For the rendezvous of 1837, Stewart took along an American artist, Alfred Jacob Miller, whom he hired in New Orleans. Miller painted a notable series of works on the mountain men, the rendezvous, American Indians, and Rocky Mountain scenes. He wintered in 1836-1837 and 1837-38 at New Orleans, where he speculated again in cotton. In 1838 he learned that his childless older brother John had died of an undisclosed disease (probably cancer). William Stewart would become the seventh baronet of Murthly.

"Attack by Crow Indians" Alfred Jacob Miller
After his older brother John Stewart died childless in 1838, William inherited the baronetcy and returned to Scotland, taking with him his partner Antoine Clement, and the couple lived in Dalpowie Lodge, while entertaining in Murthly Castle. Stewart explained Clement's presence by at first referring to him as his valet, then as his footman. Because Clement was restless and unhappy in Scotland, the couple spent many months traveling abroad, including an extended visit to the Middle East.
In 1842 he returned to America, and in the summer of 1843 hosted a private rendezvous-style party at a remote lake in the Rockies (now called Fremont Lake). On that trip Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, the son of Sacagawea of the Lewis and Clark Expedition was hired to care for the mules.
Stewart returned to North America in late 1842, and in the September of 1843 he and a large entourage traveled to what is now Fremont Lake. Stewart brought with him a large array of velvet and silk Renaissance costumes for his all-male guests to wear during the festivities. He hauled wagon loads of canned delicacies, cigars, liqueurs and champagne. Fur trader William Sublette co-hosted the party with Stewart. Though there had been no rendezvous since 1840, the party had many elements of the old Rocky Mountain gatherings. Stewart had planned to spend the winter of 1843-44 in New Orleans, and visit Taos and Santa Fe the following spring, but the Renaissance "pleasure trip" ended in a dispute that split the party and caused Stewart to return to Scotland earlier than he had planned, never to return to the United States.
In 1856 Stewart's American friend Ebenezer Nichols, his wife, and three sons, visited from Texas. When it came time to leave Scotland, the Nichols's middle son, Franc, declined to return home. He instead stayed on with William Drummond Stewart at Murthly Castle, possibly in a sexual relationship, eventually being adopted by Stewart and becoming his primary heir.
Stewart died of pneumonia on April 28, 1871.
Stewart wrote two autobiographical novels based on his experiences in America, Altowan (1846) and Edward Warren (1854). Both novels include surprisingly frank homoerotic scenes.

1973 – Reichen Lehmkuhl, (born Richard Allen Lehmkuhl) is an American former reality show winner, model, and occasional actor. A former United States Air Force officer, he is best known for winning season four of the reality game show The Amazing Race with his then-partner Chip Arndt, and for his much publicized 2006 relationship with pop singer Lance Bass.
After Lehmkuhl's parents, a policeman and a nurse, divorced when he was five, his family moved to Norton, Massachusetts, and his mother remarried. Sometime after 2002, he changed his first name legally from Richard to Reichen. Lehmkuhl graduated from the United States Air Force Academy. He has since advocated for gay rights in the military as a spokesperson for Servicemembers Legal Defense Network.
Lehmkuhl was working simultaneously as a physics teacher at Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences, flight instructor and model in Los Angeles when he was approached by a casting director for The Amazing Race. Lehmkuhl and Chip Arndt were a couple during the competition but have since split. Lehmkuhl moved to Dallas, Texas briefly after his win on The Amazing Race but before all episodes had been broadcast. Reichen's spending habits at that time caused speculation that he had won The Amazing Race — and that he and Arndt had broken up. During the show, the couple was typically described as "Married" in the subtitles that are used to illustrate the relationship between team members (other teams being, for example, "Best Friends" or "Father-Daughter").
Lehmkuhl hosted The Reichen Show on Q Television Network until Q Television ceased operations in May 2006. His autobiography Here's What We'll Say, about his time in the Air Force under the military's commonly called "Don't ask, don't tell" policy, was released by Carroll and Graf on October 28, 2006. The New York Post reported in November 2010 that the book had been adapted into a screenplay. He published a beefcake calendar for several years and has appeared on sitcoms, soap operas, and other reality television shows.
On July 2006, former 'N Sync band member Lance Bass told People Magazine that he is gay and in a "very stable relationship" with Lehmkuhl. The couple broke up in January 2007. Bass said they remained "good friends".
On May 1, 2007, the LGBT-interest television network here! announced that Lehmkuhl had joined the cast for the third season of its original gothic soap opera, Dante's Cove. He plays the role of Trevor, originally described as "a business school graduate who comes to Dante's Cove looking to find himself."
Lehmkuhl also has a jewelry line called Flying Naked composed of flight-themed jewelry made of titanium steel. Items from the collection are being sold from loveandpride.com. A percentage of each sale goes to the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network.
Lehmkuhl starred in My Big Gay Italian Wedding, an off-Broadway production from its opening May 5, 2010 in New York City to July 24, 2010. A percentage of ticket sales promoted legalization of same-sex marriages in the US through Broadway Impact.
LGBT-interest network Logo announced on June 3, 2010, that Lehmkuhl and boyfriend, model Rodiney Santiago had joined the cast of Logo's reality series, The A-List: New York. The low-rated series, frequently described as a "Real Housewives"-style show, was cancelled after two seasons. Since the airing, Lehmkuhl and Santiago are no longer a couple.

1995 – Conner Mertens is an American football placekicker for the Willamette Bearcats. He was the first active college football player to publicly come out about his sexuality; he came out as bisexual.
Mertens grew up in Kennewick in Tri-Cities, Washington, where he was the youngest of four boys in his family. Growing up, he always excelled at sports. He concentrated on athletics after an incident in fifth grade in which classmates teased him for remaining in costume and makeup after a drama competition.
According to Mertens, the environment at Southridge High School was "hostile", as he was surround by a culture of homophobia. He said the Tri-Cities was not the most friendly area toward the LGBT community. In 2012, 63 percent of the area voted against a measure for same-sex marriage that was ultimately approved by the state. Starting with his sophomore year in high school, Mertens was active in Young Life, a national organization that preaches Christianity to youth. After being in trouble in his freshman year, he credited Young Life with turning his life around.
Mertens redshirted and did not play football in his freshman year due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury to his left knee from playing soccer. In January 2014, Mertens came out as bisexual, the first active college football player at any level to publicly come out. With his announcement, he was banned from working with Young Life, which he had been certain would be a part of the rest of his life; the organization's "Faith and Conduct Policies" did not allow any LGBT person to be a staff member or volunteer, though they could participate as "recipients of ministry of God's grace and mercy as expressed in Jesus Christ."
He became Willamette's kicker in 2014, when he also received limited opportunities as a punter. In his senior year, Mertens was named the placekicker on the Tri-City Herald All-Area second team. He was also a four-year starter on Southridge's soccer team. Conner is also a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Mertens is featured in Out to Win, a documentary about LGBT participation in American sports.

Sea Otter Heaven, Morro Bay (No. 4)
The historic population of California sea otters was estimated at 16,000 before the fur trade decimated the population, leading to their assumed extinction. Today's population of California sea otters are the descendants of a single colony of about 50 sea otters located near Bixby Creek Bridge in March 1938 by Howard G. Sharpe, owner of the nearby Rainbow Lodge on Bixby Bridge in Big Sur. Their principal range has gradually expanded and extends from Pigeon Point in San Mateo County to Santa Barbara County.
Sea otters were once numerous in San Francisco Bay. Historical records revealed the Russian-American Company snuck Aleuts into San Francisco Bay multiple times, despite the Spanish capturing or shooting them while hunting sea otters in the estuaries of San Jose, San Mateo, San Bruno and around Angel Island. The founder of Fort Ross, Ivan Kuskov, finding otters scarce on his second voyage to Bodega Bay in 1812, sent a party of Aleuts to San Francisco Bay, where they met another Russian party and an American party, and caught 1,160 sea otters in three months. By 1817, sea otters in the area were practically eliminated and the Russians sought permission from the Spanish and the Mexican governments to hunt further and further south of San Francisco. In 1833, fur trappers George Nidever and George Yount canoed "along the Petaluma side of [the] Bay, and then proceeded to the San Joaquin River", returning with sea otter, beaver, and river otter pelts. Remnant sea otter populations may have survived in the bay until 1840, when the Rancho Punta de Quentin was granted to Captain John B. R. Cooper, a sea captain from Boston, by Mexican Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado along with a license to hunt sea otters, reportedly then prevalent at the mouth of Corte Madera Creek.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Udover skole har jeg dog også haft tid til en del løb i denne uge, hvilket har været virkelig fedt! Jeg får ligeså langsomt løbet længere turer, og får flere og flere kilometer i benene. Det føles bare helt vildt godt!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

⏯ can I have "a walk in the woods in the spring" for the mixtape ask meme?
This was so much fun to put together! Lots of folksy acoustic stuff ahead, lol.
This song is upbeat, jaunty, and incredibly folksy. Very appropriate for a springtime forest walk :)
This song just brings me so much joy. It feels exciting, and fresh; I imagine walking by a creek overflowing with snowmelt while trees push out new green shoots
The lyrics of this one are rich in woodland imagery. Thematically, it's like the essence of courage distilled into music. Very poetic song.
Beautiful spoken word over a layered instrumental. Hopeful, uplifting, mellow, definitely reminds me of spring.
And to close out the mixtape, here's this gorgeous instrumental. It's so calming, and there's an ethereal quality to it as well. This one is on heavy rotation on my playlist for creative writing work :)
Loved the prompt! Hope you enjoy the music ☺️
