The more I think about, the more I think Sesshomaru's biggest problem in Yashahime narratively is that in the second half especially he really had nothing to do. It's another thing I appreciate about the manga tbh, the fact that he's doing stuff. And we can blame this on anything: whether or not a third season was intended but cancelled due to the company merging, Hishida's extremely divergent opinion on Sesshomaru and the metaplot around Second Act, but regardless of what it's blamed on I think Sesshomaru's biggest issue was that he really had nothing to do until the very end.
Early Yashahime hinted that Sesshomaru would inevitably become an enemy of the girls be Treekyo (also originally meant to be a villain), but his role in S1 was largely being Kirinmaru's lapdog: he even outright asks if Kirinmaru basically has any errands he wants him to carry out after the first time he confronts the girls. He's basically a forcibly chained dog forced to become subservient because Zero essentially had him by the balls by using the lives of his family as hostage. Sesshomaru was put into a position where he could barely do anything because doing so would sign an instant death ticket for his wife, and even his children (and we do see that he both paid for Setsuna's upkeep and tried to train her from afar as a child) would be put immediately on a horrid radar if he acted out. That is until the end of S1 when Rin makes it clear that nothing could be worth Towa's and Setsuna's safety and Sesshomaru makes it clear he's finally had enough of this bullshit and makes it quite clear he will kill Zero no matter the cost, even if it costs Rin her life, because that is Rin's own desire at this point for the sake of the kids. S1 is showing the one arrogantly proud Sesshomaru who once would have scoffed at the idea of loving a human (let alone having children with one) and gladly would have left her to her fate now forced to bow down to a heel because of the compassion he learned while only being able to give very distant support to the yashahime until he's able to bequeath the broken Tenseiga to Towa (WHICH SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO KEEP). It's tragic, seeing that the result of him learning what made him a better person (but I think too many of us forget this isn't his default to all humans). Maybe it's not something everyone liked, but I thought it was a nice tragedy.
Then Second Act comes and Sesshomaru really has nothing to do until the end. He helps give direction to the girls but doesn't really do a lot. Season 2 really hammered in the rite of courage and cowardice thing, which is fine on paper, but it also reduced Sesshomaru to an extremely passive role except for a few key scenes and the very end. Rather than hunting down Zero to settle things once and for all, potentially creating a rift with his daughters who are now learning more about their mother and yearn to resolve this another way. He doesn't really do much until Rin is saved and then takes the frontline against Kirinmaru who never even got a rematch with the girls despite that being in the third OP and is overall not- that consequential. His role is more or less just to create a fight that firmly solidifies that he is the strongest character currently alive in the Inuyasha/Yashahime universe in terms of pure fighting ability (except maybe pure yokai Inuyasha if both were unarmed, but you can argue that if he's armed with Bakusaiga he'd come out on top), but that's kind of it. He doesn't really have any major plans than "Well hopefully Setsuna the girls Setsuna and Towa Setsuna can save Rin," and tell Moroha were to go too.
Dunno. Feel like that was my biggest gripe more than anything with Sesshomaru in S2. It's like that meme with "C'mon... do something..." but then when he did start doing something it was kinda just shounen action, which was really cool, but doesn't really say anything about his character. It's no wonder Towa was so conflicted about Sesshomaru not really doing anything by the end. Girl was pissed and it's kinda hard to blame her.

If you haven't already read this.
I suggest you do. Like now. Cause this! Cause this WHOLE thing—is such a mess that all I could do was laugh while reading it. Seriously.
In the meantime I'm gonna show you my "favorite" things from it
First off I wanna say is that we right. We right with some the theories, like Treekyo being the villain but they scrapped it and I BET MY SWEET ASS HAG RT FOUGHT HARD SO TREEKYO WASN'T THE VILLAIN. THEY WANTED AN EXCUSE FOR KIKYO TO BE DRAMA AGAIN NOT JUST FOR INUKAG BUT SAUCERIB TOO. Can you imagine how much more hate Kikyo would've gotten and that was really her? Working with pedomaru and all.
Tumblr media
Number 2)
I remember mentioning this a couple of times in my discord. Another thing that was scrapped. Can you imagine how much a certain fandom would seethe if Towa didn't stay with her "biological family" in the feudal era?
Tumblr media
Number 3
This shit was such a hot indecisive mess that even Rumiko was fighting people at shitrise. Still the old hag let them violate her own work in the end. Just by reading this, you can tell they didn't know what to do and I think it was highly possible that good things even including a different mother for the twins was there but it was scrapped thanks to Pedosawa pushing and pushing this shit, saying everyone would like it till they all just relented to shut him up. But ofc it blew up in their face. That original very early leak that said things like Setsuna staying with Kohaku and Rin would take her of Moroha is getting more credibility by the day. It was possible that this was the original pitch but they shitted all over it.
Also yes, by "Rumiko's feelings" they mean of RT making sure Saucerib stayed 6ft apart alright 🤡
Tumblr media
Number 4
Imagine taking a demon lord that's very ace aromatic asexual or demi whichever you desire to call it, who's true calling mostly is the battlefield and also technically a dad to a little girl (as stated by the author herself) and suddenly turn him OOC...
They really said that a bored Sessh tried what having kids would feel like as an experiment (remember what Narita said), Rin was sadly right there... Then have him say: "0/10 would not recommend" and in the meantime he bounced hoping everyone would die in the fire.
💀
A demon lord that in og had clear issues with his parents (remember the way he speaks to his mom?), Who wanted to surpass his father... Being a deadbeat is such contradiction to his growth. What were they smoking?
Tumblr media
And then finally
Are they really trying to say (or excuse) that Kirinmaru being a loving dad and aswell as being there for his daughter is bad parenting here? But Deadbeatmaru was 10/10 parenting done right?????
Tumblr media
Honestly I just want to say that if you want die on the hill that you like this thing despite everything. It's cool, you do you I say and accept whatever consequences come from it, but this is literally the worst sequel in anime history. If this interview doesn't convince you I dunno what will. It's undefendable...

Cleaning up my verses!
Tumblr media
HEY EVERYONE hope you’re doing good!
as i’m trying to return to tumblr rp for real this time, i cleaned up her verses a little bit. i initially made it pre-s2 where we didn’t know much, but that’s long since passed so i made a few minor alterations:
this blog’s default universe is post-canon for s2 of the anime. by default Towa’s default age is now treated as 15 due to natural progression of time and if she is attending the modern era for whatever reason, she will be enrolled as a first year in highschool
with native Yashahime/Inuyasha canon Towa cannot travel between eras by the end, but this is something i’m more than willing to easily handwave: Treekyo lets the Yashahime use the tree as a means to time travel more or less as a “reward” for saving the world. so while it probably wont’ come up much with other muses (i would love to explore the idea of Towa actively trying to find a way to the Reiwa), with most interactions this is easy enough to handwave as why she’s in the modern day for rp stuff
i still don’t have a dedicated modern au verse, but if i did it would likely just be related to the human AU
i still want to make a manga AU and will be working on that as I return to this blog! by default I p much characterize Towa as she is in the anime with some influences and traces from the manga, but having pure shounen Towa... is also good

A lot of people think that the season 2 director sabotaged or purposely sabotaged Yashahime's ending and conclusion. What are your thoughts on this? After reading some of the latest interviews it was revealed that basically the grim comet thing wasn't supposed to be about rion and that butterfly thing. The director changed it because he didn't think towa, setsuna and moroha destroying the comet would be believable and he also scrapped treeyko being apart of plot. Hot mess imo.
TALKING ABOUT YASHAHIME AGAIIIIIIIIIIIIN
so like. i think a LOT of things happened behind the scenes with yashahime. like i talked about on my rp blog a while ago andstillwishtheaskhadbeensenthereinstead, i do believe the merging of companies played a role in this. and granted- i've fallen a bit out of IY/YH (not that i dislike either, just, my fandom interests are primarily in the Fate rn)
and keep in mind i have kept up with like, no interviews since the finale, so by all means if I'm just Factually Incorrect about something correct me and i SHOULD read those interviews later. but also, it doesn't surprise me.
i remember interviews with the VAs of the trio kind of implying it seemed like there WAS supposed to be a third season but the merging of companies seemed to shelve it? and i was under this impression that what happened was that this resulted in essentially the equivalent of the entirety of the finale of a franchise that was meant to have a third season having to basically rewrite itself while it was already halfway done to try to wrap things up nicely as quickly as humanly possible. that is to say- there was no way it couldn't be shit, just a question of how like. not stinky they could make the shit.
but then we got more interviews regarding the director about season 2, like... that he was the one who personally pushed the idea Towa should stay in the Reiwa Era (and as unpopular an opinion this might be, especially among sessrin shippers, i would not have opposed that if it had been done well and built up properly), treekyo's role diminished, the idea that Riku had actually seriously been attempting to murder Towa and it wasn't some fake-out and he only didn't do it because he realized in the last moment he loved her i'm especially mad about this not just because that defies all common sense but because it means i was wrong in a twitter fight and there's nothing worse than losing a fight that means nothing on the internet etc etc... not to mention what felt like almost a regression of Sesshomaru's development?
i'm pretty out of date with interviews and shit so i have no idea what wild shit Hishida said but like, i still think there were other behind the scenes matters that complicated Yashahime near the end of it's already incredibly troubled production, but i would also not be surprised in any capacity if Hishida actually did that. he seemed to have. a really weird thought of how the show should progress

Even though I'm not a fan of Yashahime but I just wanted to make this for fun. I was kind of hoping Inuyasha would at least encounter "Kikyo" aka "Treekyo" cause I thought it would be interesting to see if that happened. Of course it never did. I really tried my best to make to make this look "real" the logo and the floor I got from a screencap the rest I made myself. I really hope you like it.

(Theory) Rin is special. She’s keeping the Tree of Ages ‘pure’
Tumblr media
Having Episode 8,
I’m starting to think that Rin is not just there to sleep. or as a hostage.
Her being inside the Tree of Ages is intentional.
Main points:
[1] She’s there to keep the balance, and allows the Tree of Ages to manifest its ‘good side’ -keeping in mind that Root Head (’evil’) is latched on the tree.
[2] While at the same time, keeps her in some form of ‘stasis’ or protection - that’s why Sesshomaru is kind of ‘fine’ with the things as they are.
[3] ‘Treekyo’ has natural sleep-related powers. She can put Root Head to sleep. With that, she can put Rin to sleep as well?
[4] The ‘Dream Butterfly’ is a compounded sleep effect, commissioned by Sesshomaru.
[5] Rin being inside the Tree is intentional. Either she, Kagome, Sesshomaru, or Kaede, set it up.
[6] Rin is keeping the Tree ‘pure’ while Kagome is away, probably doing the other ‘equally taxing part’ of the plan in another time/realm, with Inuyasha. Meanwhile, the village remains in a state of calm, with Kaede around.
[7] If that is indeed a birth kimono and she really had complications with childbirth, then theory [2] can still apply and [1] is just an after effect. Probably an idea suggested by Bokuseno/MamaSessh to Sesshomaru.
[8] Rin is special. She was the first person revived by Tenseiga (Sesshomaru). And her soul was not so easily consumed in the Underworld. I think the Meido stone revival is not applicable to everyone. There is ‘something’ about her, that links why she’s in the Tree - aside from being Sesshomaru’s important person.
Enables the Tree to manifest it’s ‘good side’
Previously, I’ve made a theory post discussing Treekyo’s role and said I can’t decide whether she’s good or bad. Now I think, parallel with the Shikon no Tama, the Tree of Ages can have a good side and a bad side too, depending on the soul of the ‘user‘.
I’ll say it again, Root Head is stupid - he is just sneaky. Watch Episode 1 again and see how reckless he is. In Episode 4, he even allowed himself to be bribed by Moroha. My theory is that someone is using him (Yotsume? fake Yotsume?) in feudal era to cause commotion in the village where Kagome is and eventually look for everyone’s weaknesses. Why? To buy time for the rise of power, to buy time for acquiring the pearls. The later goal of which could also be to corrupt the Tree of Ages. (I’m not sure if Root Head was fully exterminated from the Tree, re Ep 4)
I imagine Rin sacrificing herself to keep the Tree ‘stable’ while the other OG cast do their part of the plan re Degenerate Age [1], [6]. Her driving factor? Towa, Setsuna, Sesshomaru.
Rin is shown on episode 4 and 8 for build up. There would be something special about her character like as discussed in [8]. We haven’t seen adult Rin so the possibilities are endless, like, she has developed some purification or channeling powers..? [9] We're all clueless with the happenings right at this point (after Ep 8), but the reason why she is IN the tree and why she of all people (and not someone else, i.e. Kagome) has something to do with the bigger picture of the problem we have in Yashahime.
The Dream Butterfly is commissioned by Sesshomaru
Tumblr media
Kaede mentioned that the last time she saw Sesshomaru was when he took the twins with him. He’s never been in the village again, meaning, Rin is not there any longer. He has no reason to go back. So that’s assuming Rin has been in the tree before he took the babies,~14 years ago. I assume he took care of them for the mean time until the fire incident.
The ‘dream butterfly’ happened after the fire incident that separated the twins. I think Sesshomaru was involved in that fire incident at least, and he was only able to save Setsuna. He later raised her for a while and searched for the dream butterfly, upon learning about it.
Here’s a 4-fold reason why Sesshomaru commissioning the butterfly would work, connecting    him-Towa-Setsuna-Rin-truth   :
Setsuna is deeply hurt with the separation with Towa. Taking her unpleasant memories even if it included him + taking her sleep, will enable her to become strong. Like nothing will hold her back. He then made her return to Kaede and gave her mokomoko. Plus, this also kinda works in a way, being unable to sleep had been an advantage in the battle with Yotsume, on Ep 8. At least there’s one who’d always be awake in the Yashahimes.
The ‘dream butterfly’ thing is a repeated transaction: taking Setsuna’s dreams and giving them to Rin. Maybe in this way, Rin can have a connection with the twins. She wasn’t able to raise them after all.
Sesshomaru sets Towa and Setsuna on a path. He believes one day, Towa would know about the dream butterfly and would act upon it. This will lead the twins TO Rin. That one day, they would find their mom. That one day they would be strong enough to know and face the whole truth.
I imagine Sesshomaru taking the blame for the following: Rin being in the tree + the dream butterfly. He’s lowkey setting his self as a bad character, so that the twins will have the resolve and reason to fight him one day?
Sesshomaru has a plan to free Rin
Apart from what I have thoroughly discussed about Sesshomaru and the dream butterfly, I think Sesshomaru actually CAN free Rin anytime, he’s just holding back (1) because the OG cast has been sacrificing a lot (including Rin), and (2) the Yashahimes need to be lead to a ‘path’ and they need to collect the rainbow pearls.
Tumblr media
“If you forsake this girl.. “ could also mean that he is capable of removing Rin from this state in the tree anytime. He just choses not to be selfish because he cares for everyone. That, and they have an ongoing plan with the real Kirinmaru. They’re just waiting for the Yashahimes to be ready.

Treekyo: Daughter of Sesshomaru, I need you to kill this demon before he ruins the world. Your dad won’t do it.
Setsuna: I don’t know if I accidentally gave you the impression that I care, but I don’t. sounds like other people’s problems. Tell my dad to do it. I’m out.
Kohaku: hey, there’s this demon-
Setsuna: ✋ say no more fam. I got it.

I still don't think Sesshomaru or Kirinmaru are the real antagonists. My money is on Treekyo and/or Riku.

@darkwitchofslytherin and I have decided there is no female who “birthed” the twins. The line between Towa and Kirin obviously means that somehow Sesshomaru x Kirinmaru happened and Treekyo is homophobic.

What if Treekyo is the REAL B*TCH of Yashahime?
I was thinking and perhaps Kirinmaru and Sesshomaru's mission could've been to destroy the Tree of Ages due to its impact in the timeline.
Also, Towa is really fearful of changing time by adding History info for those people in the past. This could be a hint of what the Tree of Ages can do: be a treat of History-line just by existing.
The bone-eaters well stoped working 15 years ago according to Kaede. She didn't say that Kagome was the last one to use it and she didn't say it stop working as a time-travel or by dropping youkais bones into it. The only thing we know so far is that the bone-eaters well is not functioning anymore.
Sesshomaru, Kirinmaru and even InuYasha and Kagome could've destroyed the bone-eaters well. Since it was build by the roots of the Tree of Ages, Treekyo may have been pissed and SOMEHOW made Kirinmaru lose his memory and used Rin as a bait to avoyd to be destroyed by Sesshomaru.
Treekyo claims that Kirinmaru and Sesshomaru are a treat, since both are going into the same path. And Kirinmaru is trying to bring the age of destruction (or something like that) for everyone.
But as far as we have seen, Kirinmaru doesn't look like he has memories of the past events. He is alone inside a boat. Through the glimpse we have of episode 8, perhaps Riku is the one commanding the death of the 4 perils, as a protective action for Kirin's safety, since they look like to have a strong connection to the owner of the purple rainbow pearl (forgotten her name).
So, when Treekyo requested for the Yashahime to kill Sesshomaru and Kirinmaru, it may have requested for the treat they represent for the Tree of Ages existence. Treekyo is helding Rin as a hostage, so it can controls Sesshomaru, but if Kirinmaru regains his memory, then the Tree of Ages would be in danger again.
Oh, and perhaps we will see a thing we've never seen before in the OG story: a version of someone from the past in the present time. I think Kirin Osamu is not only Kirinmaru, but his version of 500 years into time. I don't believe for a second that Kirinmaru did a time-travel. It would not be easy to become an English teacher in 10 years when you are from the medieval past.
Maybe I am using too much logic to explain the story, but those are my thoughts... Sorry for my typos! English is not my main language.

So in my simulation/illusion theory I think Inuyasha OG characters are "acting" as other people in Yashahime.
And I think Kagome is playing Treekyo. Here's some things I think support the idea.
In the Yashahime poster Inuyasha is starting at the Tree of Ages.
In the Wuxing 5 phases, which I am seeing evidence of being applied beyond the pearls, the wood/green phase is being associated with Kagome.
There's been an abundance of Kikyo references that I think are meant to serve as as indirect call outs to Kagome. I go into this more in this post:
When Grandpa gives the kappa foot to Moroha he says, thank you Kagome, where ever you are. We are immediately led over to the Tree of Ages.
The bulletin board in Kagome's bedroom has a picture of a rainbow and Sunrise called attention to it many times. They want us to notice it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Treekyo addressed Moroha by name, surprising her, and chided her like a mother would.
Treekyo's perch resembles an egg and could be a callout to the "world egg" which Konton is connected to. This is only proof if you believe in my Perils/Parents theory.
That's all I have for now, but I think I am right.
