SCORPEPPER & NAGAREAPER (Poison/Fire) The Scorpion pepper Pokemon
This insect-like pokemon produce a powerful toxic oil from the bulbous glands at the end of their claws and tails, this oil is so caustic that it will burn anything that it touches and is often shot at the eyes and noses of possible predators to blind and disorient. However, if this oil is properly extracted by an expert and then diluted and purified, it becomes a very tasty seasoning oil, altough a very spicy one.
They have the ability "Caustic", this ability causes all poison-type moves to have a small chance of leaving the target with a "Burned" status rather than "Poisoned", even if the move doesnt usually leave its target poisoned, like acid spray or cross poison (which are moves this pokemon learns by lvl up)
They are based in the Trinidad Scorpion Pepper and the Naga Viper Pepper, its shiny colors are based on the White Carolina Reaper Pepper, this 3 are some of the most spicy peppers in the world
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NAGAREAPER is also based in Nagas, serpent like beings from southeastern asian mythology, but more specifically the king of nagas statues from thailand temples, with large fangs and single large horns on the mide of their heads, some even having multiple heads, usually 3 but they can have up to 7

Anyway, here’s some positivity. Plant babs. A little leggy because I didn’t account for them sprouting that fast and so didn’t have a lamp set-up, but they’ll be fine. Roselle, hibiscus sabdariffa. You might know them from agua de jamaica or from all your herbal cranberry-flavored teas that actually are mostly made of this. They were my favorite thing I grew last year,

The chilies are growing! The new batch is still in small pots waiting to grow enough to go in a bigger one. This variant is called Bolivian Rainbow and they are a mild variety. The first picture is from a plant from a few years ago.
Unfortunately, the Trinidad Scorpion Yellow seeds did not sprout, probably because they were too old. They were part of my brother's legacy (this word is probably not the best choice, but....) He was a scoville hunting maniac when it came to chilies and made arms-grade chili sauce for us to enjoy. Yellow scorpion were my favourite variety of his collections because of their unique taste, so I am a bit sad they didn't sprout - also because chilies will forever be linked to him in my mind.
So, we'll grow only the rainbow chilies this year, because they look pretty and are a reminder of him. Maybe I will put one of the plants on his grave.

Chillies and their Spiciness
Chillies are an inseparable constituent of any cooked vegetable and meats. The spiciness adds to the taste of vegetables and meats. It is also a fact that chillies are very rich in vitamin C, Magnesium, vitamin B6, iron, and potassium and have very good health benefits.Degree of spiciness or the heat of a chilli will be directly proportional to its capsaicin content. The sensation also masks the…

Hognose are like the mild spice level. Proper hots range from habanero level up. And then snakes we didn’t realize are venomous for ages because their venom is so medically insignificant are like ketchup level (I believe some or many garters are here). Because there’s people who call ketchup spicy.
Absolutely loving this scale for categorizing snake venom by "spiciness." Going to try to get this to catch on in my workplace.
Ketchup: some garter snakes, ringnecks, other teeny-tiny rear-fanged guys
Bell pepper (mild symptoms): hognoses
Banana peppers (usually mild but can be annoying if you're sensitive): false water cobras
Jalapeños (got a little bit of a kick!): mangrove snakes, some small Australian elapids like bandy-bandys
Cayennes (getting into the real venom now, but won't kill you even if you don't seek medical attention but you should definitely seek medical attention anyway): small rattlesnakes, European vipers
Habaneros (serious venom, won't kill you but you'll need medical attention if you don't want long-term effects): copperheads, most rattlesnakes
Ghost peppers (seriously life-threatening without care): most vipers, including big rattlesnakes, bushmasters, lanceheads, etc.
Trinidad scorpion peppers (seriously and quickly life-threatening, need to get medical care within at least 8 hours): most elapids, including cobras and most Australian elapids
Carolina reapers (can become a serious emergency within an hour): king cobras, mambas, inland taipans

Taneth chili cheese corn
This tasty dip from Taneth in Hammerfell is a party classic in the region, and is present at every gathering, big or small. Easy to make, just serve with corn chips for an instant hit at your next festivities!
You will need:
1 can (198g) sweetcorn
125g cream cheese (I like Snøfrisk, a Norwegian goat cream cheese, but Philadelphia works well too)
1/2 cup cheddar, grated
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
2 fresh jalapeños or other chilis of choice, diced finely (keep or remove seeds depending on your spice tolerance!)
1 tsp smoked paprika powder
1/2 tsp cayenne powder (I also like Trinidad Scorpion powder, for the more adventurous!)
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp sugar
1 tbsp butter, for frying
Corn chips, to serve
Method:
Preheat oven to 180C/356F.
In a pan, lightly fry the corn in butter until ever so lightly browned. Set aside.
In an oven-proof dish, combine the cheeses, chilis, spices, and sugar. Mix together until well-combined, then add the corn and stir through thoroughly.
Bake for 20 minutes until medium brown on top, remove from the oven to cool for at least 10 minutes, and serve warm with corn chips.

What spice tolerances so you think the sparda boys have?
Oh, as a spice fiend, I always have a lot of thoughts about this :D
All Three
So, being part demon means they have hypersensitive... well, senses. They can smell and taste even the most subtle aromas and flavours. Of course, this is a double-edged sword, as it means that while they can savour foods in ways normal people can't, they are all also very sensitive to spices, among other things.
It does help that they all have stomach acid that could melt stones, so they aren't really prone to stomach aches.
They all have rather different tolerances and reactions.
Dante
Dante has an alarmingly high spice tolerance. Despite the sensitivity, he actively enjoys the burn, as long as it has some flavour to it. Specifically, he really likes some sweet with his fire, so he enjoys hot sauces that incorporate fruit.
He won't eat spicy foods often but once in a while he gets that craving and will find the absolutely most mouth-melting hot sauce or spicy dish to have. He treats it as some kind of unhinged challenge to satisfy his adrenaline-junkie ways. Since even mild spice hits harder, he's always trying to see how far he can push it. He doesn't react too strongly too it, pushing himself to try and no-sell the burn. At most, he'll sweat a little bit and sniffle for a bit.
At the moment, he's sitting somewhere around the ghost pepper range (1 mil Scoville and change) and is already itching to find the next challenge.
Trust me, he'll balk at the Trinidad scorpion. The sensitivity/tolerance balance will tip too far, and he will have no regrets.
Nero
Nero likes spicy foods, but his tolerance range is tempered by his reactivity to it. He prefers tangy spicy sauces and dishes, with a lot of salt and lime.
Nero will go for spicy foods whenever he can get them, and tries to make them himself, with varying results. That sticky note in Nico's van is evidence of a poor understanding of cooking... I mean, steak and jalapenos in the oven? Come on... There is a degree of testing his limits rather than enjoying the food for it's sake and frankly, he's still learning to adjust his flavour palate to more "adult" preferences, like pasta all'arabiatta.
He is not above trying to shotgun an entire bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetos just to prove he can.
He unfortunately has some very visible reactions to spice. He sweats like a pig, sniffles for up to thirty minutes afterwards and, after a certain threshold of spice, drinks water and other liquids constantly, to the point of almost making himself sick.
His current record is Thai pepper sauce (about 50-70k Scoville) and that was already a bit of a stretch of his limits. He's one double-dog-dare from Dante away from a trip to the hospital.
Vergil
Vergil does not handle spice very well. At all. His tolerance, much like with alcohol, is rather embarrassing. He actually prefers rather bland food but there's some signs of improvement as he reintergrates into society. He's not even a bit shy about his inclination towards burgers.
He may scoff at Dante, but his own diet is really just as bad. He won't seek out spicy foods but if he's around Dante or Nero, the goading will eventually get to him and he'll try something. Sometimes he ends up liking what he's eating, sometimes not. It's terrible whenever he feels he needs to compete with them because then he'll try something beyond his tolerance and that never ends well.
His reactions are the most extreme; he sweats, his face gets very red, he gets a very runny nose and cannot stop drinking whatever liquid he gets his hands on. He'll get stomach cramps soon enough.
The best Vergil can do is Serrano peppers (about 10-20k Scoville) and that's a stretch. He actually doesn't want to try anything hotter but again... daring/challenging him proves to be his undoing every single time.

EXTREME HOT - Ghost Pepper Seeds (Red) Bhut Jolokia, Super Hot, Organic, Non-GMO Bin#10 Known by many names in the different Indian provinces. The most common names include Bhut jolokia, Bih jolokia, Nagahari, Raja Mircha, Raja chilli or Borbih jolokiai, the Bhut Jolokia is cultivated in the Nagaland and Assam region of northeastern India and parts of neighboring Bangladesh. The word Bhut, given from the Bhutias people, means “ghost” and was probably given the name because of the way the heat sneaks up on the one who eats it. The Bhut Jolokia has been around for many centuries, but was only introduced to the western world in 2000. In 2007 The Ghost Pepper was certified as the hottest Chili Pepper on the planet in The Guinness Book of World Records. Ripe peppers measure 2.5 to 3.3 inches long with a red, yellow, orange, white, purple or chocolate color. i absolutely love how weird and fucked up extremely spicy peppers look. Theyre so small shriveled and nasty because they are too spicy to be alive. Look at these habañeros (100,000–350,000 Scoville units). They're actually pretty normal
Tumblr media
But then look at the Trinidad Scorpion (1,463,700 Scovilles). its shape is WEIRD.
Tumblr media
And the more spicy they get the more fucked up they are!! Look at this carolina reaper (1,641,183 Scovilles)!! its so WRINKLED!!
Tumblr media
And look at Pepper X!!!!! (spiciest pepper in the world, 2.69 million Scovilles)!! Not only is it wrinkled and shriveled but it's TOXIC WASTE GREEN. These peppers are so powerful that they shouldnt be able to exist. Sinful.
Tumblr media
anywyas there isnt a point to this post im just obsessed with how fucked up exremely spicy peppers are

Hunter x Hunter characters taking part in a chilli eating contest
This started out as just a Hisoillu headcanon, but then I got carried away imagining all my faves doing this, so enjoy! (Scoville scale I used for reference at the end of the post)
At a fair or something, an enthusiastic employee shoves a flyer into the face of *character* as they walk by. He challenges them to take part in a chilli eating contest, stating that nobody has managed to make it to the end and promising an exciting prize for anyone who can eat the hottest chilli there. Anyone who takes part has to sign a waiver that they understand and consent to the potential risk associated with this challenge and that the fair is not liable for any injuries/sickness caused by the challenge... There is also an ambulance on standby behind the stall, just in case.
Gon - Is under 18 so not allowed to take part for health and safety reasons. If he had been allowed, he wouldn’t have wanted to take part  but would have went for it anyway if someone challenged him (which of course someone would) until he put himself in hospital as our boy does NOT know when to say no to a challenge. Probably best he isn’t allowed to take part.
Killua - Also not allowed to take part due to his age. He is furious about this, what was the point of all his poison immunity training if he can’t even use it??? Would have probably made it to the end and been fine.
Kurapika - Probably the most sensible person out of the entire cast, would be the only one to just refuse to take part. Why would he want to hurt himself without good reason? (If he had taken part, he’d probably have made it to about fatali)
Leorio - My precious idiot. Would hype himself up as ABSOLUTELY capable of the challenge. Would make it to about scotch bonnet level before choking, face red, tears streaming from his eyes. (He’d also forget about having chilli fingers and rub his eyes) Most likely to end up needing that standby ambulance.
Knuckle - Another precious idiot. Would take on the challenge, making himself sound tough but would only get as far as jalapeno before remembering he HATES spicy food and giving up, his mouth tingling but otherwise not harmed.
Shoot - Only took part because Knuckle forced him to. Makes himself get to the Hungarian stage before tapping out just to beat Knuckle. Again his mouth is hot and he’s going to have heartburn for the rest of the day, but nothing too damaging.
Pitou - Intriguied by the challenge, takes a bite of a bell pepper, immediately spits it out, gagging and then leaves disgruntled. They are a cat after all.
Bisky - Would need a lot of persuading, but would take the challenge. She’d make it to a respectable Habanero before admitting defeat. Immediately goes for an entire tub of ice cream after and vows never again.
Chrollo - Is convinced to try it by the rest of the Phantom Troupe (who all tried and failed at various stages). They’re all convinced he can win so he tries. He does well, making it as far as chocolate habanero before bowing out. He acts graceful and like he just got bored and doesn’t need to prove himself, but really? IT BURNS!!!!! He probably has some stolen nen ability that stops serious damage, but he’s not going to have a good time digesting those, may ‘disappear’ for a few days until he can keep solid food down.
Hisoka - Doesn’t just accept the challenge. Is HYPED for it! Breezes through most of the stages, seemingly unimpressed until it gets to around fatali, then he starts enjoying it. And I mean really enjoying it. Inappropriately. It’s really hurting him, but this freak is into that and that’s making everyone else uncomfortable - more so than the peppers ever could. Hisoka breaks a record for being the first person ever to be banned from the fair and is forcibly removed by security before he can complete the challenge. He made it to Trinidad Scorpion. One pepper away from winning the entire challenge. He’s disappointed he wasn’t allowed to finish, but also kind of smug.
Illumi - Not sure why he’s being challenged by this loud annoying stranger. Seems pointless but he takes part anyway (Hisoka convinced him it’d be fun). If Hisoka made people uncomfortable with overreacting to the pain, Illumi makes everyone uncomfortable for the total opposite reason. He has no reaction at all. He climbs gradually up through the Scoville scale looking, if anything, bored. He surpasses Chrollo at chocolate habanero, and keeps going, up and up, until finally! He does it! A record has been broken!!! He ate the famous Carolina Reaper and won the challenge!!! He is showered in confetti and is forced into having his picture taken for the local newspaper. He wins a cash prize and a stupidly oversized pepper plushie as well as a lifetime supply of tabasco sauce and toilet paper... He remains completely stoic throughout the whole thing, not getting what all the fuss is about. When asked how he feels he informs the staff and local reporters that He is completely fine, why wouldn’t he be?  And when asked what his secret is, if he’d trained for this challenge at all beforehand?  He explains he’s trained for worse his whole life and compared to arsenic, peppers barely even tingle. When he asks if he can leave now, everyone is quietly relieved, not quite sure what to make of this strange man.
