I think the real reason for the recast hate is they think of their dolls as an investment. They think the monetary value of their own dolls is more important than someone else enjoying the hobby with recast dolls that are loved and cherished. They are not "pro-artist" ... they are "pro-themselves"

I've noticed the angry antis are mainly from US and other western developed countries. Mexican and SEA recast content creators don't hate on their content and JP/KR/CN collectors have a live and let live attitude. this all leads me to think loud antis are privileged virtue signalers who feel entitled to tell other people spend how to spend their money. I'm entitled to spend my money I worked for how I want, that includes buying recasts. If you want me to buy legit, you pay for it.

When recast owners like me give reasons here why we buy recasts- it's exactly that = reasons. They are not justifications because to call it that implies we OWE you some kind of justification or explanation.

Neither I, nor any recast owner who's bought a recast with money we earned, owe u sh*t. Calling our purchase 'theft' when we paid money in exchange for a product in a legitimate transaction, is slander. You're the one doing something illegal. We entered a legitimate contract of purchase with a seller we in good faith assume has legal rights to sell in their country. I am not going to go into the nuances of intellectual property law across borders because on the part of the purchaser - the point is moot.

And if you want to talk about morality - I suggest you ask yourself abt the ethics behind everything you consume from your produce to clothing to the companies and services you support and leave other people's consumption behavior to themselves.

I wish it was also common for legit companies to include free gifts, like extra resin parts or discount coupons, specially when they go waaay over the normal wait time. I feel like if I waited 9 months instead of the 2 you claimed, some sort of apology needs to be included on the order. It’s really not normal, and it doesn’t make me want to order again. Give a lil compensation to your customers when the service is shit so they still want to deal with you, like recasters do, you know?

Recasts are great in that I can basically just look around at dolls and not have to worry too heavily about whether I'll be able to afford it or have to wait 20 years and hope that it's still being produced or is being sold for a reasonable price on the second hand market (almost impossible honestly)

When some people go legit, they switch out their recasts for the exact same doll but it’s legit. I could never do that because those particular dolls have been through so much with me that I have a connection with. If I were to switch them out with their legit counterparts I wouldn’t be able to bond with them as they would feel almost like imposters. My first recast knows me but if I were to ever switch him out with the legit one, it would just feel like a shell.

I might have a little chance to defy such odds if, for example, I was contemplating the idea of replacing my doll and (and trust me, this is a thing that has happened more times than it should have) I just lost my first doll either on a bus, a meeting, a move, a park bench, etc.

Then, and only then, I guess you have the option to ""go legit"" since either way your chances of getting your first doll back are close to none.

But otherwise...

I've always wanted to get a BJD for sewing doll clothes on a larger scale (Have Monster Highs/Nendoroid Doll customs but they're all too small for much detail) but could never afford to buy a legit one. I'd seen recasts sold online but because of how much hate they got I was too scared to look into getting one! Nice to see that's not the only opinion online. I'm planning on saving for either a Fairyland Minifee Maya or a Siean off aliexpress now ^^

It's never just one opinion online.

The fact that they scream louder doesn't makes them either right or the only ones.

Mod: I actually just love reading all your dolly thoughts, obviously there are some toxic and serious ones in there which can be difficult, but generally I enjoy reading everyone's dolly opinions. I ran (was deleted by tumblr in p0rngate due to doll photos(!) since basically anything with flesh-tones was getting flagged by their bot, and remade here, they restored it a whole year later) truebjdconfessionz (now @bjd-confessions) since the middle of 2017, I found the original truebjdconfessions in 2015? And just was addicted, when they stopped posting I'd keep checking and after a few months, eventually decided to make my own. I just posted about it in the comments of the latest post on tbc at the time, and since everyone else was still checking the blog, it gained followers quickly.

I've never knowingly eaten pineapple on pizza :p
