One more rehab fail.
Tumblr media
February 2, 2023
Ever since Donald Trump left the White House, went to ground in his Palm Beach hideout and resumed his pathetic descent into madness, numerous former members of his administration have been out and about attempting to scrub the orange stain from their reputations and salvage their tainted careers. Most with only marginal success.
Many have tried to wash away their sins through tell-all books critical of Trump and their former colleagues-in-crime. The narrative of these memoirs always seems to be how the author heroically kept Trump from flying too far off the rails and advised him against making the disastrous, off-the-cuff decisions typical of him.
These yarn spinners included Trump administration spokes-liar Kellyanne Conway (Here's the Deal), former chief of staff Mark Meadows (The Chief's Chief), former Defense Secretary Mark Esper (A Sacred Oath), former CIA Director/Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (Never Give an Inch), the list goes one and on.
One erstwhile Trump enabler who's been especially eager to separate himself from Trump's failed presidency (also with a book out) is his final Attorney General, William Barr (pictured above contemplating his place in history). The Nation's Joan Walsh christened Barr's public relations attempt at image cleansing his "rehabilitation tour." Here's why it's not working.
Despite the fact that he testified to the J6 Committee about what he claims he privately told Trump, it took Barr almost a month after the election to publicly deny Trump's lies about election wrongdoing. CNN analyst and former prosecutor Elie Honig concludes,
Barr bears as much responsibility as anybody other than Trump himself for spreading the malicious lie that ultimately resulted in the January 6 Capitol insurrection.
Barr also slow-walked the release of the Mueller report on Russia's election interference, tried to mislead the public into thinking it exonerated Trump, abused the special counsel system by appointing John Durham to investigate Mueller's investigation simply to placate Trump, and had the Justice Department suppress investigations into Trump and his felonious aides like Michael Flynn. Plus, it was Barr who dispatched an army of police to forcefully disperse protesters in Lafayette Square outside the White House so Trump could walk to a photo op. As The New York Times points out,
During his 22 months in office, he allowed his Justice Department to become a personal protection racket for his boss, Donald Trump, and left prosecutors, the F.B.I. and other law enforcement officials subject to the worst impulses of the president.
Bill Barr might be on a rehabilitation tour, but nobody seems to be buying tickets for it.

if you claim to be an ally and someone calls you out for enabling transphobic/homophobic behavior and your immediate response is to get mad or say that the person you are defending is allowed to express their opinion, then you should really reconsider if youre actually an ally cause it seems like youre just putting on a mask to be seen as progressive and dont actually care about people

Mothers, don’t let your babies grow up to be Trump lawyers.
Tumblr media
July 14, 2022
Surely, one of the worst employment situations in the world is to be one of Donald Trump's lawyers. Not only does the tight-fisted Trump have a well-documented reputation for not paying them, but as The Washington Post confirms, “He appears to treat them as disposable: useful so long as they are willing to do his bidding, expendable if they ever disagree with him.”
The prototype, of course, is Trump's attorney and fixer for over a decade, Michael Cohen (pictured above, regretting his career choice). In service to Trump, Cohen found himself disbarred, convicted of perjury and fraud, and sentenced to three years in federal prison. You'd think he would have provided an instructive example to others. But, no, there are apparently plenty of legal practitioners willing to commit crimes for Trump and suffer a fate of a similar kind.
Rudy Giuliani, once hailed as New York's former mayor, has had his bar license suspended in that state and ethics charges filed against him by the DC bar. Meanwhile, the FBI is investigating him for possibly violating foreign lobbying laws.
Jeffrey Clark, Trump's coup stooge, recently had his home searched by authorities in a pre-dawn raid in connection with his role in Trump's attempted power grab.
John Eastman, another coup plotter, also had his home raided by the DOJ and his phone seized. He's currently under investigation by the California state bar. In addition, Reuters reports Clark is being probed by the DOJ’s Inspector General and the DC Office of Disciplinary Counsel for aiding the ex-president's efforts to overthrow the election.
Lin Wood, a Trump election fraud litigator, was referred for disbarment by a federal judge. The Georgia bar has also filed a complaint against him.
Sidney Powell, another Trump campaign attorney, was also sanctioned and referred for disbarment, and the Texas state bar has opened a case against her. Both she and Wood were required to undergo mandatory legal education.
Jenna Ellis, yet another one of Trump's legal advisors, is the subject of a complaint to the Colorado state bar seeking her disbarment.
Anyone taking on the job of being a lawyer for Trump has to realize the guy believes his legal counselors exist solely to carry out his whims using whatever steps — honest or otherwise — are necessary. This is why the advocates listed above are all facing ethical, legal and, in some cases, criminal problems. Because, as journalist Marcy Wheeler reminds us, "MAGA is sometimes understood as Make Attorneys Get Attorneys."

‘Enraging’: How The Willful Blindness Of ‘Team Normal’ Enabled Trump’s Coup, July 13, 2022
Chris Hayes: Trump was not shy about the fact that he would never accept an election loss. And just because some people, like Pat Cipollone, lied to themselves and collaborated with this monstrous sociopath who almost ended American democracy, that does not mean that it was a hard thing to see.

History will not be kind to the enablers of Trump.
The descendants of the MAGA morons will be as embarrassed of their ancestry as many of the descendants of Confederate slavers are today.
Germans born long after the defeat of the Nazis are still burdened by Nazi ancestors.
Bernhard Schlink: being German is a huge burden
Contemporary Germans wish they could just forget about their ancestors from the 1930s and 1940s. In the future, Americans descended from bleach-drinking, Putin-loving Trumpsters will feel the same way.
Thanks to the internet, those descendants will know exactly what their ancestors did to support semi-fascism. It’s easy to imagine some kid in 2061 saying...
“Hey mom, I found a picture of Great Uncle Bubba pooping on the floor of the Capitol during the Trump attempted coup!”
