Rex Nelson rips 'paranoid' Sanders administration, calls it a 'tragedy'

Nelson, a senior editor at the newspaper and a former Republican aide for Sanders’ father, former Gov. Mike Huckabee, ripped Sanders and her team of “Traveling Trumpettes.” Nelson said their focus is on the governor’s national profile and criticized the administration’s lack of adherence to traditional Arkansas political gentility and governing pragmatism.

Nelson’s criticisms were not a surprise to those who have read Nelson’s personal blog where he has made similar criticisms in recent weeks. Newswatchers, however, have wondered if Nelson would use his newspaper column, usually reserved for lifting up Arkansas culture and food, to share his concerns.

Yesterday, he went all in.

Here are a few snippets:

Sanders has surrounded herself with political journeymen who have no concern about the people of Arkansas or this state’s future. It’s all about the boss’ national political standing. These aides will simply move on to other states when they’re done here, leaving the rest of us to deal with the damage.

Sanders and her top aides seem intent on bringing the chaos and divisiveness of the comical Trump administration to state government—rushing through a major education overhaul in order to avoid needed debate, avoiding the Arkansas media, relying on national far-right outlets, and putting out mindless tweets about national politics that have nothing to do with Arkansas.

The name-calling from the governor’s office is puerile and frankly just plain tired—the sign of people unwilling to debate issues on their merits.

Nelson seemed particularly perturbed that interviews he set up with administration officials have been called off and must be cleared through the governor’s office.

I can never recall a governor’s office as paranoid as this one. That paranoia is a byproduct of insecurity. The governor and her aides quickly realized that they don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to running state government. One would have expected a governor holding elective office for the first time to surround herself with people who have a deep knowledge of state government. Instead, we get political apparatchiks from outside Arkansas.

The tweets are predictable, unimaginative, and lacking in anything that resembles wit. We’ve frankly not seen anything like this since Orval Faubus and his minions were branding those who would dare ask questions as Communists.

my great-great-great-great grandfather didn’t throw his only son off a sinking ship to have me all coddled up in the present day to bitch about gas prices.

History has been filled with hardships and struggles. It speaks volumes of how far we have fallen as a country when the upper class whines all day about “brandon” and gas prices and the price of that new sun deck.

Some of us are out here trying to calculate if we’ll have a roof over our head at the end of the month, or if we’ll  have the energy to hit work and stay healthy amidst a pandemic.

Some people are still trying to recover from the damn vascular disease they had in 2020.

Some people are doing the work of five, because the corporate business refuses to hire workers.

A lot of people love to romanticize their family trees bloody history, but few of these soft jelly beans are willing to bleed for their future. Its always “maim the working class, and bitch about how immigrates are taking jobs, and the brown people are in the neighborhood”.

And sure, I’m complaining too. But I’m at least irritated about the softest meat slabs rolling around the parking lot, griping about how a minimum wage workers has stopped to check their phone or whatever while pushing a cart in 101 degree heat. I don’t have a problem with people existing, my sole problem is people having a beef about other people existing and trying to survive when they’ve been given no valid compensation for their hard work.
