First though I'm gonna need to tldr: the history of Y Ddraig Goch before we get onto the (accidentally) canonically trans part.
A brief history of Y Ddraig Goch:

Y Ddraig Goch first appears in the tales of the Mabinogi (Charlotte Guest version) in the tale of Lludd and Llefelys where it is fighting a white dragon. The fight is also described/expanded upon in the c. 829 AD text Historia Brittonum (attributed to Nennius) - where the red dragon represents Wales and the white dragon represents the Anglo-Saxons. In the story the red dragon triumphs over the white. Of course, Geoffrey of Monmouth also covers the story c. 1136 in Historia Regnum Brittaniae in which he introduces the concept of the red dragon heralding the arrival of King Arthur.
Geoffrey of Monmouth claims Arthur used a banner featuring a golden dragon. But we also know the accuracy of Monmouth can be questionable at times. Owain Glyndŵr did use a banner with a golden dragon called Y Ddraig Aur - raised in 1401 at Caernarfon - Glyndŵr chose this banner as a nod to the supposed banner of Arthur and his father.
Later on the Tudor monarchs (being a Welsh family) adopted a red dragon on a white and green background in their heraldry. Eventually Y Ddraig Goch on a white and green background became the official badge of Wales in 1800. The design became the official flag of Wales in 1959.

Now for the thing you're all here for -
So, as outlined, the history of the dragon as a national symbol of Wales goes back a long way. If we're just talking post-1959, there's some interesting implications for Y Ddraig Goch's depiction.

This is what the Welsh flag (and Y Ddraig Goch) looked like in 1959 when it was officially adopted as the flag of Wales. It looks broadly the same as the first flag and has some common features - such as not having a penis (or, as in the correct heraldic terminology - a pizzle). Meanwhile, in the arms of the Tudors (specifically Henry VII)

the penis is almost always included. So much to the point that the present royal family still includes the penis. While pretty much 0 depictions of the dragon in Wales include a penis. So you could interpret this as the dragon is seen as male only by the British royal family and as female everywhere else (which kinda implies that at some point the Tudor dragon had an mtf transition in Wales and she keeps getting misgendered by the royal family every time she is depicted in (mostly) England).
So much to the point that in 1995 this pound coin was made by the Royal Mint featuring the pizzle on the dragon with all four feet touching the ground as opposed to standing up (passant rather than rampant).

But in Wales you'd be hard pressed to see a pizzled dragon anywhere. Ergo, we can only conclude Y Ddraig Goch is trans and she transitioned in Wales and keeps getting misgendered in England.
[note: This is mostly tongue in cheek - but I do think it's fun to extrapolate that the Welsh dragon is trans because of the differences in depiction between Wales and England. Like many things Welsh, it is misrepresented by England and the idea of the Welsh dragon being misgendered only in England is, I think, a good metaphor for a whole lot of English treatment of Wales.]
Unrelatedly, there is a gay Welsh flag held at the National Museum of Wales which has a very wonky dragon which I find very endearing.

Féile na nÚll Menu & Analysis
I had really meant to publish the menu before the event, but ingredient acquisition took more time and effort than expected. In particular, chestnut flour, which I wanted as a thickener for various gluten-free dishes, just could not be found anywhere I tried. I didn't find that out with enough lead time to order it online. Almond flour substituted, and was fine.
Anyway. Here's the full menu, which fed varying numbers of people, but I think about 45 for the feast.
Travellers' Fare (Friday evening): Beef stew with bread and butter (vegan stew on the side, plant butter available, GF bread available).
Saturday Breakfast was produced by the inimitable Lady Meadhbh Rois inghean Uí Chaoimh.
Saturday Lunch: Chicken soup (vegan soup alongside), bread, fruit.
Feast: Roast pork (vegan nut roast on side), Frumenty (rice on side), apple sauce, green sauce, meat pies (mushroom pie on side), creamed leeks (with fake cream), buttered turnips (with plant butter), roasted onions, purple carrots (with plant butter), olives, anchovies, apple pies, blackberry and apple pies (all pies with GF/vegan versions as well, where possible).
Sunday breakfast: Porridge with cream and fruit, stewed apples, boiled eggs, cold ham, and various leftovers, mostly fruit pies.
The emphasis here wasn't on any particular production of period dishes, but on making sure everyone got good solid food. It's also an entirely plausible English Tudor menu, including the frumenty and green sauce as dishes that didn't make it through the Early Modern. As far as I can make out, everyone enjoyed it (although nobody ever tells the cook they didn't). The coeliac and vegan/vegetarian folk expressed particular approval, which was important. Anything I could make GF and vegan was made so (plant butter and almond flour are the two main tricks here).
Gabrielle and Katie were in the kitchen every hour I was, and possibly a few more, and a great deal of credit for the weekend's food being on the tables on time is due to them. Katie also set in, with very limited prior experience, to making pastry for the non-gluten-free pies, and produced some of the best I've ever encountered. She's been designated Head Pastrychef in Perpetuity as a consequence. There were also many other kitchen helpers, who've been thanked appropriately on Facebook. The relevant note here is that we had 4-5 people in the kitchen at most times, which was more than enough, and kept everyone relaxed. The SCA Kitchen playlist (85% mine, 15% Gabrielle's) was also helpful.
So. The first thing that I want to improve is the gluten-free pastry. Making it vegan as well was trivial; replace the lard/dripping with plant butter, and it's absolutely fine. Any fat will do for that, it seems, although since the traditional use for the pastry is the raised pork pie, the meat fats help match the taste. The gluten-free flour, however, could only be persuaded to make a paste, not a pastry - trying to roll it out into sheets simply didn't work. It would take the form of a sheet, alright, but if I went to pick it up, it just broke. An experimental version that Gabrielle and I did before the event could be sort-of lifted into place on baking parchment, but it broke over the contents of the pie. In theory, with a very dense, relatively smooth pie filling (such as a meat pie that's been well-packed), you could get a coherent crust, but I don't know what would happen to that as the contents shrink in baking. Xanthan gum appeared to make zero difference.
So we've some more experimentation to do there. One suggestion is to use an egg or two, which will take it away from being vegan - but a vegan pastry, using plant butter instead, should not be a problem to produce as an ordinary cold pastry. Various things will be trialled.
The green sauce came out particularly well. Órlaith did her usual superlative job of chopping herbs, primarily sorrel and mint, with some basil and thyme, some black pepper, and garlic salt. The liquid base was about 2 parts olive oil to one part white wine vinegar. We only made a small amount, but nearly all of it was eaten. Green sauce is basically a table condiment for the latter end of the SCA period in Western Europe, and I have vague plans to make and bottle some at some stage, to see how it keeps and matures in the longer term.
I made far too much of the frumenty. Bulgur wheat isn't terribly expensive, so I don't feel too bad about it, and the carbohydrates are absolutely the area in which to over-provide. But for my future reference, about 400g of dry bulgur will provide enough for about 30 people without difficulty.
The roasted onions were surprisingly popular. I think we did 11 whole onions, and only one and a half came back to the kitchen.
The meat pies disappeared in their entirety, as far as I can tell. One was a combination of minced pork, minced lamb, and whatever vegetables were to hand; the other was filled with the remnants of Friday's beef stew. I was very pleased to be able to integrate leftovers into the feast; I am completely certain that a rolling use of leftovers in subsequent days' dishes was a standard feature of any period cookery, and we don't often get to do that over a weekend.
The purple carrots were entertaining. I can't detect any difference in taste from orange carrots, but they stain everything they touch a nice shade of purple-blue. I'll get them again if I can just for that.
Overall, I'm pleased with how things came out, and I'll do either of the Arabic or Pre-Norman Irish menus I had partially worked out for next year.

In China, oregano was frequently used as a herbal treatment to reduce fevers, stop vomiting, and quell upset stomachs. ・ Oregano has long held the symbolic meaning of good fortune, health, and happiness. During Tudor and Elizabethan times oregano was commonly utilized as a symbol of good luck and prosperity. Oregano flowers typically bloom in shades of purple and pink which in the language of flowers which are synonymous with dignity, success, admiration, and wisdom (for purple flowering plants) and happiness, gentleness, affection, sensitivity, friendship, trust, innocence, playfulness, grace, and femininity (for pink flowering plants). Uses of Oregano in Witchcraft Oregano has countless uses in Magic, but above all, it is used for crafting love spells, since this herb is associated with Aphrodite and is ruled by the planet Venus. Not only it can be used for love but also to enhance our intuition and psychic powers, to protect our home and our animals, bringing harmony and peace to the home. I know it's like choosing your favorite child (which they say is impossible), but which Sixsona unique design from the project would you consider your favorite? Also fun bonus question, which do you think, in another universe (where alt costumes aren't allegedly being phased out), would be the most likely to be added to the show?
Mint. I like all of the designs and have a few favorites but that one is special. Close second are amber and peach.
Tbh there is ✨something✨ about all of them. But with mint instead of taking inspiration and elements from other costumes. I went with the way the original costumes were made and it worked way better than every other time I did that. Tudor elements are clear, cutouts are unique, there is a specific style of pop costume it is mirroring and it manges to feel like both first covers without being one of those designs. Only downside is that parts of it look close to pink but I still think both could be onstage without looking like copies.
As for which one I think could work the best onstage it fully depends on which alt system and which colors are already in use. I would throw into the mix amber, mint, peach and maroon (in that order). There are no alt costumes with a corset construction which gives a lot of points to amber and peach, shorts is an incredibly versatile main variation and an easy transition to cleves, all four tops work well with variations, the peach and mint skirts would be unique. But also. Amber is I think both the most versatile and most unique but color is too close to orange. Mint is great as single variation but harder to physically make varitions (and again close to pink) and could read too close to Boleyn. Peach would wash out onstage and might look too close to seymour. Maroon is like silver in that it has easily identified elements from other costumes so it could end up looking too similar. It fuly depends on external factors, not just on the designs themselves.

Bloody Days ‘Harps of Gold’
𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟓𝟓𝟗: It came upon a midnight clear, that glorious song of old; from angels bending near the earth, to touch their harps of gold.
With the arrival of the celebrated Yuletide, the court of William III travels upriver via royal barge to sit out the hard frost of December in the cheery splendour of Greenwich Palace – escaping the encroaching sickness of the city, and to rehabilitate with fresh, roaming air and ample opportunity to partake in exhilirating hunts. As the varied colours of fresh plants wither with the coming of nippy airs, the servants bring forth the evergreens to celebrate the continuous burst of life — holly, ivy and mistletoe adorn every wall and archway. Dried fruits swimming in bowls of wine are found at every corner; plums are offered to every pacing maiden, in exchange for punchy kisses. Alms are also passed out to the surrounding towns and hamlets to engorge the King's image of majestic generosity, and at every banqueting table magnificent roasts are served alongside endless gifts and trinkets, doled out to His Majesty's favourites. Each evening the feasting table erupts in boisterous cheer, toasts are made with hot ale and cider, pageants are orchestrated and delighted in, and as the clock strikes midnight, a mischievous Lord of Misrule will be chosen by pure happenstance to become the Earl of Ormond – ensuring no shortage of royal entertainment.
Enjoy this God-ordained land where Kings have been born and bred, for surrounded by wintry countryside they are blessed to enjoy the fruits of English wilderness, with bountiful hunts arranged for almost every other day in the name of that merry Yuletide. With each day emerges a new, sparkling competition to take part in – by order of the King, there will be jousts on marvellous horseback with knights of the holy garter fighting for the favour of any particular young maiden, the prize naming one the Champion of Yuletide. Hand-to-hand combat will also take place beneath a canopy of regalia; watch as metal clinks and children laugh and coins specially minted for the occasion are passed between gloved hands. Alongside the brawn of William's court are gentler affairs for the sweetened courtiers to take part in: recitals of poem, caroling and prayer will be followed by gift-giving and dances spun beneath flickering candelight. Each evening will be adorned with wondrous feasts in remembrance of the table set by the late King Henry VIII – yet amidst the joyousness, courtiers will find to moments of quiet contemplation to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday, for at the Tudor court, solemnity and piety lives in perfect harmony with the festive cheer. (As does, we might add, continuous scheming, plotting, and the hatching of nefarious plots...)

The game moves to Greenwich Palace to celebrate Yuletide and escape sickness running rampant in London. On December 15th (irl date May 26) the court will erupt in celebration with jousting, melee tournaments, merry recitals and humble gift-giving (competition will come down to the roll of a dice, and more details will be available in the discord!)

Leech: a sweet made from milk, sugar and rose-water, which has cut into cubes.
Sugar-plate: made from sugar, egg-white and gelatin, crafted to look like walnuts, eggs and other food like marzipan is today
Gilded-fruit: lemons were gilded and used to decorate the banquet table
The Marchpane: an arrangement made from almond past which was iced or gilded and then decorated with sugar figures and crystallised fruit, was the centrepiece of this court
Christmas Pudding: made from meat, spices and oatmeal and then cooked in the gut of a boar
Gingerbread: made from bread, ginger, spices, sugar and wine into a stiff paste which was then moulded
Mulled wine: wine heated and infused with sugar and spices
Syllabub: a hot milk drink flavoured with rum or wine and spices
Lambswool: a drink made from mixing hot cider, sherry or ale, apples and spices, the mixture was heated until it "exploded" and formed a white "woolly" head
The Christmas "minced pye": contained thirteen ingredients to symbolise Jesus and his apostles. It was a rectangular, or crib shaped, pie as opposed to our present day round ones, and it also contained minced meat rather than just dried fruit and suet, with the mutton symbolising the shepherds to whom the Angel Gabriel appeared

The Lord of Misrule: a commoner would be chosen as the "Lord of Misrule" and would be in charge of organising the entertainment and revelry for the Twelve Days of Christmas

Keeping Clean Part TWO
Just because @astrangerinbrownleatherboots brought up the importance of the 100 strokes a day and how smoking can deodorise, I thought I would mention a few extra things that I’ve learned through living history and personal experience.
The one best well-known is that a combination of wood ash and animal fat makes a basic softer soap with less suds, and adding salt can make a stronger soap. One interesting method I learned to make a liquid soap actually involved soaking about 100 English Ivy leaves in water. Either way, if you have wood ash you have your lye, and rendered fat, you have your fat. Soap is one of the simple pleasures that’s relatively easy to make once you have the resources.
I cannot recall if I mentioned it, but I’ll do it again. A tudor method of keeping clean was to regularly change your inside clothes and clean them, and rub yourself down with a cloth. This has the same effect as the 100 strokes of the hair and just helps to exfoliate, deal with dead skin cells, and get circulation going.
I cannot recommend the importance of exfoliating your legs and especially your feet enough, especially when you are spending most of the time walking, it really helps getting circulation back there.
And just to reaffirm the importance of *keeping your feet clean and dry*. Remember to take them out of the shoes and socks often, and move them about. Put something to dry out the shoes in the shoes whilst doing this, something to deal with the smell, and let the socks just hang out in the air for a while. This and your hands are the worst places to get infections.
(I would not encourage following the methods of the Tudors in keeping your teeth clean as they tended to use just tooth picks. I would encourage having a toothbrush when possible. I find salt water helps to clean well enough, and chewing parsley or mint, or other strongly scented sweet edibles to help, but no shame in toothpaste.)

Introduced in Paris by Henry VI in 1427, the angelot, featured the angel Gabriel aloft the royal shields of England and France, and on the reverse, a Latin cross with the French lys to the left and the English lion to the right. The angelot was given to the recipient of the royal touching as a contact relic imbued with the healing power of the king, to be worn as a medallion. The symbol of St Michael, together with St George, was often depicted as a healer of the sick.

The angel was originally introduced as the nobel-angel by Edward IV during his first reign in 1464. On the obverse it was stamped with the Archangel Michael trampling down the dragon, and on the reverse a ship bearing the royal arms and a mast flanked by a sun and rose, replacing the king as captain seen on the gold noble since Edward III’s in 1344. The iconography of the angel has remained almost unchanged since, with only minor alterations on the royal arms, including the H for Henry and the Tudor rose and dragon mint mark.

The angel had symbolic and religious value because of the ritual of royal touch, and became part of royal ceremonies and processions, given to the people by the king, who in turn had touched and imbued them with his grace. The coin was often pierced so that people could hang it round their necks as tokens with healing power akin to religious relics, a ritual instituted by Henry VII. It was important that the coin continued to be worn by the sufferer, establishing a function as an amulet rather than a talisman, and a physical reminder of the true king’s right to rule and heal his subjects with divine powers granted only to the true king.

Zajok a nappaliból – Traxelektor 2022 10

Ezek az olaszok megint nem bírnak magukkal, és most nem arra célozgatok, hogy összehoztak maguknak egy Mussolinát, mindössze az Italo Moderni kiadó vadiúj válogatása keltette érzelmeimnek adtam hangot. Ez a kiadvány tényleg minden izében olasz, abban is, ahogy a csizmaföldiek eddig hagytak nyomot az elektronikus zene történetében, már a kezdetektől fogva a ma is működő trendekig nembezárólag. A Modernation Vol. 4. ezeknek a tökéletes mixtúrája, itt van velünk az italodisco, a new wave, a synt-pop, az industrial, az ebm és az electro, sőt együtt táncolnak. Minden kicsit színesebb, illatosabb és ízekkel telített, mégsem érezzük zavarónak, mert úgy van elhelyezve, egyensúlyban és kompozícióban tartva, ahogy házaik, városaik megépültek, és ahogy egy latin lelkében fér el több emóció, mint mondjuk az enyémben. Nem látta valaki a píszímet? Mert szerintem mondat közben elhagytam valahol. Nem hihetjük, hogy ennyi általánosítást egymásra hányva bármi tanulságot levonhatnánk a hibázás esélye nélkül, ennek ellenére a jelenünk pontosan így működik, sajnos. Az olasz underground elektronika viszont láthatóan jól érzi magát, bátran emel be elemeket szomszédos a határterületeiről, ami minden kulturális túlélés egyik kulcsa. A válogatáson szereplő E-Bony (Naor Dayan) december 2-án a Soroksári úton található Arzenál vendége lesz több más előadó társaságában a Refactore invites NECHTO with Nastia, Voin Oruwu(LIVE), Splinter UA & Louwave(LIVE), E-bony eseményen.

Aztán egy másik válogatás, az összevissza számozású Elsewhere sorozat részeként, ami mellett nem lehet elmenni. Egyébként is kedvenc kiadómmá vált szép lassan a különös nevű Kalahari Oyster Cult Recordings, melyet egy belga DJ-producer, Colin Volvert alapított. Az Elsewhere XX válogatásról nyolc felvétel landolt a Traxelektorban, és eddig ismeretlen nevekkel barátkozhatunk meg, sőt a fenti válogatásra írt műfaji összkép nagyjából itt is áll, mínusz industrial, plusz etno, ugyanis ez a cím egyfajta kitekintést, körbejárást, a sokfelé jelenlevő értékesek összegyűjtését jelenti. Az összkép annyira színes, változatos, hogy már önmagában ez felemelő, és – bocs ezért – de minőségben is komoly kontrasztok vannak fel- és lefelé, és ez nem baj! Konkrétan van olyan felvétel, mely mintha a Soroksárin azóta eldózerolt R33-ban szólna. A nyelvi sokszínűsége is komoly érték, kellenek az ilyenek, és a következő számokról is be fogok számolni (ha tartják a szintet).

Nem emlékszem, hogy a román Khidja duó bármikor is, az instrumentalitáson túllépve, megnyilvánult volna üzenetek terén. Igaz, a teljes (évtizedes) életművet – bevallom - nem ismerem, anno a 2017-es Microb EP kapcsán ismertem meg őket. A messzidzs persze tömör, ám sajnos igaz is: The Future Has Disappeared. A hatszámos EP címe: Something in the Water is korunk problémáira reflektál, akár tágabb, akár szűkebb értelemben, elég csak a közelmúltban történt tiszai cianidszennyezésre, vagy a Szamos nehézfémszennyezésére gondolni, ezekből ugye mi is kaptunk. Andrei Rusu és Florentin Tudor az elmúlt években minden kiadványával kiérdemelte a kiváló áruk fóruma minősítést, és még mindig szeretném őket egy élő koncert (Live Act!) formájában elcsípni, mert a stúdióanyagaik is élőnek, nyomokban imprókat tartalmazónak tűnnek. A John Talabot kiadójánál, a Hivern Discs-nél megjelent Something in the Water is a szokásos Khidja minőségben született, türelmesen adagolt, takkra kimért, a látóhatárig szaladó – náci/ultra olvasóim kedvéért szőröstalpú - ritmusokkal, s az azokat oldó, visszafogott szintifutamokkal, mint tájelemekkel. És ha ez még nem volna elég, az EP-n egy remix erejéig váratlan zenei románcot is hallhatunk: a tunéziai szépség, Azu Tiwaline remixeli a srácokat, hibátlanul. A lemez mintha lassan, de biztosan gyorsulna, és az Obsiidian / Exchange már szinte táncolható sebességgel bír.

A google fordítóval se könnyebben értelmezhető című Echo Almaz East alapformátuma kazetta, ha bajban lennél, rája is írták, hogy C60, azaz ha lemez volna LP volna, tű is kicsorbulna, szóval kazi és digital release. A kuzinok, Richard Bevan és Joshu Doherty savakkal lepermetezett ambientje valamiféle mély baljós lopakodó érzéssel társul, miközben azt sugalja, lazíts és tesped ernyedten, a baj majd megoldódik, sodródj csak! A Posthuman pszeudó alatt publikáló, kelet londoni illetve glasgowi székhelyű páros amúgy a brit acid szintéren ismert, és ez az album is acidkedik, de oly lassan, hogy már az ambient sőt experimental területein kóvályog. A szóhasználat nem téves, végig olyan érzése van az embernek, mintha kezünkben öngyújtóval, valami nedves barlangban próbálnánk valahogyan célba kecmeregni, az idő kínosan lassan ténfereg, akárcsak mi magunk, a fent említett eszidek, mormolt szövegek, fémes ütlegek pedig megfejthetetlen irányokból pattognak vissza felénk és körülöttünk, az eszidi nem eszid és az old school dobok (Leftfield – Song of Life) pedig csak jobban megzavarják fejünket, pláne azok az analóg windsor-ontarioi vasak, amikből a ténfergésre termett padló anyagát kinyerték. Mixmaster Morrisnak voltak ilyen lemezei a táskája mélyén a spaceambient-korszak csúcsán, de például vakteszten simán elbuknám, ha beadnák, hogy a Telepresent Marswalk track egy eddig ismeretlen 94-es Orbital felvétel. Összességében ez egy nagyon érdekes és különleges kiadvány lett, minimalista borítója nemkülönben, hatását tekintve abszolút unikum, legáldrog, ugyanis lassú mérge húsz perc/félóra után pszichedeliává oldódik bennünk, ezért vezetéshez nagyon nem ajánlott!

Nyilván ez véletlen egybeesés, de annak a különleges típusa: szeptember 30-án, vagyis már a javában zajló iráni események idején jelent meg a nyugati emigrációban élő iráni-síita testvérpár Mohammad és Mehdi Mehrabani-Yeganeh duójának, a Saint Abdullahnak és az ír nemzetiségű  Ian McDonnell-nek, azaz Eomacnak közös albuma a beszédes című Patience Of A Traitor. Ez a lemez az időtlen dolgok megőrzéséről szól, a múlt újragondolásáról – írják az album ajánlójában - ... érdekes volt megtudni, hogy mindketten láthattuk kultúránk olyan alapvető aspektusait, amelyek gyönyörűek, de különböző erők megrontották. Ian megosztotta emlékeit arról, hogy gyermekként mennyire mélyen kötődött a kereszténység himnuszaihoz és zenei hagyományaihoz, tanításaihoz a szeretetről. De az egyház és a kormány évszázadokon át a katolicizmust használta az ír nép elnyomására és ellenőrzésére. Ebben az értelemben az ír katolikus egyházban és az iráni síita iszlámban sok közös vonás van... A fivérek a Saint Abdullah projektet a nyugati világ muszlimok és iszlám hittel kapcsolatos mélységes frusztrációja miatt hozták létre. Céljuk volt, hogy „megkérdőjelezzék a sztereotípiákat, és csatornaként működjenek a szemben állók között.” Pont a héten beszélgettem valakivel közéleti aktualitásokról, amikor is sikerült azt mondanom, hogy nekem a magyarságom legfőképp kulturális kérdés, ezért semmiféle politika, ideológia, populista örület nem képes elvenni, megmásítani, megkérdőjelezni, éppen ezért nincs is rajta mit megmenteni, nincs mitől óvni, mert itt van velem, meg se tudnék nélküle szólalni, a részem. A legtöbbször azok akarják ezeket megmenteni, akiknek nincsen megalapozott kultúrájuk, vagy nem vesznek arról tudomást s helyette a modoros felszínt érzékelik, s azt féltik, a félelem pedig ölni is képes.

Miközben tök’ nyilvánvaló, hogy egy rakás opportunista gazember szép lassan foglyul ejtette hazánkat, egyértelmű az is, hogy egy másik rakás opportunista gazember pedig a világgal tette ezt, az uccaembere pedig azon vitatkozik az ucca másik emberével, hogy melik fekália büdösebb. A megoldandó, és nyakunkon ülő problémák nem, hogy megoldódnának, valószínűleg csak szaporodni fognak, a bödőcsi „nem győzik kifütteni, Maunika” poén pedig kézzel fogható valósággá dermed a fagypont alá eső hőmérséklet közepette. Ezek a témák pedig egyre többször jelennek meg a előadóművészek munkáiban - lásd a korábbi számokat - bár esetünkben a közvetlen történések is hatottak, ugyanis az amszterdami Red Light Complex tavaly bezárni kényszerült, Gilbert Cohen pedig meghívta Abel Nagengast és Satoshi Yamamurát egy közös, búfelejtős stúdió jammelésre. Bright Future nevet kapott a hármas, és mivel Gilb-R a házigazda, a kiadvány a francia Versatile-nál jött ki. Negyedórásra sikeredett értekezésük a dolgok állásáról a Babel címet viseli, és azért Gilb-R-től meg főleg az alapító Nicolas Chaix-tól (I:Cube) se állt messze sose a szarkazmus. Sajnos zeneileg már nem sikerült akkorát gurítani, de ez a csattogós, dünnyögős indie-wave-house még mindig elviszi a balhét az elsöprő kreativitás hiányában is.

Hogy hívják egy szóval azt az alműfajt, hogy minimal house? Bauhaus. Az ilyen poénok miatt szoktak önmagukat viccesnek tartó idiótákat befalazni a középkorban, hála (egyelőre) toleráns korunknak, meg hogy ezt is csak négyen olvassák, élek. A Discogs tele van olyan előadó nevekkel, akik neve így fest: Kőmíves Kelemen (n), ahol n egy pozitív egész szám, azaz nyilvántartásilag sorszám, s ez nem könnyíti meg az azonosítást, főleg ha egyetlen művét se ismered a szerzőnek (bár biztos akad, aki meg pont erre játszik.) Gordon Chapman-Fox nem bízott semmit sem a véletlenre, ezzel a brutálisan szexi, dögös pszeudóval, Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan, hódítja meg a világot. Bár szerintem a hódítás fel se merült benne, de még a „kalandozás” hunni szellője se libbentette meg félcentis british séróját. Gordon a lancasteri Prestonban nevelkedett, de az élet a merseyparti Rumfordba és Warringtonba sodorta. A Covid lezárás idején úgy érezte a zeneiségét is mélyen átitatja Rumford New Town-nak ez a mesterséges, brutalista épitészetben fogant ipari lakókörnyezete, illetve nem is konkrétan ez, hanem ennek a lakókra, ott élőkre gyakorolt hatása. Így kapta az album a Districts Roads, Open Space címet, de hogy értsük, ez a Liverpoollal szemben fekvő település egy 1973-ban épített totálisan ipari város, precízen megtervezett, funkcionális és mesterséges – lélektelen, idegen.

Ami gyönyörű az emberi létben, hogy egy ilyen alapvetően negatív élményt képes áteresztve magán valami olyanná transzformálni, mint amit Gordon a Disctrict Roads, Open Space-szel teremtett. Ugyanis az eredmény egy abszolút IDM szabatos, minimalista ambient-downtemp lemez, tökéletesen párhuzamos az augusztusi számban tárgyalt The Black Dog korszakkal, a Construction-nel, de olyannyira, hogy a brutalizmus, mint építészeti stílus közös origójuk. A poén meg az, hogy Sheffield innen 100 km-re van csak keletre, egyazon délkörön. Az album a Castles in Space kiadónál jelent meg, 1,3 fokkal délre.

Biztos voltam benne, esküszöm megéreztem, hogy a hónapban még a nagyok valamelyike gurít valamit, és az is vicces, hogy a Substrata (Alternative Versions) megjelenése előtt két nappal checkoltam a Discogson, hogy tutti nincs valami új Biosphere? Nos, legyen hála a szentséges Szlartibartfasztnak – ki díjat kapott Norvégiáért, és a fjordok csipkézése volt kedvenc munkája - van. Illetve nem új, régi-új, Geir Jenssen egy ideje szteppelget végig életművének jeles fejezetein, bár ezek többsége jellemzően remaster némi extenddel, de például másik ikonikus albumát, a Patashnikot 2014-ben értelmezte újra. A Substrata érzékeny pont, már a cédéim 95%-át elajándékoztam, mondván, én már digitális ember leszek, ezt a példányt nem fogom. Mert úgy, ahogy van gyönyörű kiadvány, meg persze, egy Experipheria Fesztiválon vettem, így emlék is. Ráadásul ez a Substratának egy különleges verziója, a Substrata / A Man With a Movie Camera dupla, amin a második lemez zenei anyaga Dziga Vertov 1929-es korai némafilm klasszikusához íródott „soundtrack”.

Tehát a mester újraértelmezte korábbi klasszikusát, ami a szubjektív TOP 10 album listámon kb az első 5-ben van, és nem csak nálam (pl. David Stubbs, Melody Maker, 1997) minden idők legjobb ambient albuma címet is viseli. Geir kíméletes volt velünk, régi rajongóival, finom kis módosításokkal plasztikázta át a Substratát. Nagyon szeretem ezt az embert, mert senki se képes ilyen mélyen békét hinteni zenéjével a lélekre, nem feltétlenül az érzelmekre hat – persze, azokra is – de a Biosphere sokkal mélyebben fejti ki hatását, immáron 3 évtizede.

A skandináv letisztultság most is védjegye Dan Vicentének, a stockholmi székhelyű zenész/producernek, akit Acronym néven ismerünk. Ez idei első életjele, mondjuk tavaly is egyetlennel (Roots) kellett beérnünk, de az meg LP volt. A Millennial Lowlife négyszámos EP a megszokott vibráló szintifutamokkal, mélyre, a háttérbe rejtett basszusokkal, lassú technóra terített tranceszőnyegekkel operál. Mindig határérték alatt tartott vinnyogásfaktor, őszinte, hipnotikus raw/deep techno - Acronym, a minimalizmus esztétikája.

Augusztusban kényszerültem bántani Orbitalékat a 30 Something kapcsán,  szeptemberre Tornado Wallace kislemezével megjött az a popsláger, amit Hartnolléktól várhattunk volna, mondjuk fesztiválslágernek. A Dream Cornerben kicsit sok a vokál, túlontúl harsány, nyervogós, de Lewis Day barátunk nem átallott egy Speed Bump verzióval egy másik orbitali variánst feltenni a háromszámos single-re, hogy aztán a B oldalas Sea Translation legyen a harmadik változat – Álmomban két Hartnoll voltam, és Orbitallá játszottam magam! Ha jobban meggondolom mindhárom felvétel gyengéje, hogy túl lett tolva a szaggatott vokál, ám minden más attribútumában, ahogyan beküldi a basszusgroove-okat, sodró lendületében, könnyed, táncos, napsütéses mivoltában áll párhuzam, a tempó talán 5-10 bpm-mel gyorsabb az alapítóatyákhoz képest, dehát 2022 van, meg álomszinten máshogy jár az idő, és a halott feleségem néha vonat képében jelenik meg.

A Delsin Recordings sorszámozott, és mantiszöld alapon, fehérrel, valami geometriai forma dizájnú kislemezei évek óta tűnnek fel e lapokon, ha nem is mindig a kiadvány szintjén kiemelve, de a Traxelektorig rendre eljutnak a Mantis-sorozat felvételei. Így ismerhettük meg a Forest Drive Westet, Dino Sabatinit, Lemnat, a natural_electronic.system-et, Terraint, Varunat, s legutóbb Tammo Hesselinket. Kondukut, azaz Ruben Üvezt már korábbról ismerhetjük, és hát amellett, hogy a pali másodmagával, AA Suddal, Konsudd néven egy felvétellel szerepel lejjebb is, a Delsinnél egyből elvitte a 09-es és a 10-es sorszámot is, azaz egy dupla EP-vel kíván jó reggelt, na de micsoda reggelt! Valami olyasmi történik itt az idm-techno vonalon, mint amikor Gombóc Artur elkezdi sorolni, hogy milyen csokoládékat szeret, az üveghangú puttyogós technot, a visszhangos oda-vissza csapkodóst, a tört ritmusú tyuttyogósat, a csavarodó gerjedőset... A Mantis 09/10 a sorozat egyik legerősebb, a legkifinomultabb darabja.

A májusi számban esett szó a Rituals e7.001 címmel megjelent újabb és sokadik The Future Sound Of London albumról. A Space of Partial Illumination e7.002 címet kapott a második etap, a borítón látható kép címe Szélessávú megvilágosodás a szerverpark legmélyén, Ping! Mindmáig az van, vagyis sokadszor történik, hogy hallgatom az éppen aktuális FSOL-t, jó, meg minden, de annyira azért nem feltétlen, tehát nem történik semmi új, de az elmém úgy kajálja fel, úgy cuppan rá, mintha először hallana ilyent. Én meg kívülről, sztoikus nyugalommal figyelem, amint ezt csinálja – velem, velünk. Biztos az van, hogy Dougans-Cobain páros valamit beleírtak a korai művek többségébe (Accelerator, Lifeforms kb, ennyi elég is, esetleg Dead Cities) és az feltelepült az emberek szinapszisaiba, az agyak meg kívánják, s ha megkapják, hamm. Amúgy volt is olyan 6-7 év, amikor nem vettem tudomást az új FSOL megjelenésekről – gondolom akkor gyógyult a függőség – aztán 2010 óta az Environmentsekkel meg szépen visszaépült a drogfüggőségem. Csak ez lehet a magyarázat, csak ez lehet. Apropó, de rég hallottam a Lifeformst, mi lenne, ha ...

Amikor megláttam, hogy van új Björk album, úgy számoltam, hogy majd az albumajánlóban látjuk viszont egymást, de nem így történt. A Fossorához egyébként 3 zseniális videoklip is készült, amiből kettő vizuális orgia, a harmadik pedig a művésznő búcsúja közelmúltban elhunyt édesanyjától. Szóval az van, hogy körbe vagyok véve eredendően Björk rajongókkal, de legtöbbjük mára azt mondja, ezt a Björköt már nem szereti, nem jó hallgatni, olyan irányba ment el, ami már nem érdekli. Van benne valami. A hölgy szólópályafutását a Debut óta figyeltem, egyre nagyobb lelkesedéssel és csodálattal. Ilyen komplex, egyszerre szeretnivalóan őszinte, lázadó és elmés, a pólusainak legvégső határain táncoló előadóművész tényleg nagyon ritka. Nekem azóta is sajnos a Homogenic (1997) a csúcspont, és ahogy beléptük az új évezredbe, úgy fogyott el a lelkesedés iránta, és már a remixeire helyeződött a fókusz, amiben mindig is progresszív és kreatív volt. Ő pedig halad tovább a multi-instrumentalista, kortárs opera franctudjami vonalon. Az ide belinkelt Atopos klipje alatt írja találóan egy kommentelő: Björk is musical genre.

Asztírja a hogyishívják, a bandakampf, hogy Vivid Oblivion is: Jim Siegel (Drums, Bowed Metal, Gong, Zither, Bells, Bowls, Vibraphone, Percussion, Scrap Metal) with Karl O'Connor (Field Recordings, Editing), Nick Forté (Shruti Box, Banjo, Rural Guitar, Synth). Szóval ez valahol Regis (Karl O’Connor) élőszereplős kisjátékfilmje, és a Graphic Cabinet album keverésébe a fenti figurák mellett még a harcostárs Anthony Child (Surgeon) is besegített. Az eredmény pedig egy nagyon hangos, zajos, kortárs, repetitív, experimentalista album, sokszor industrial mozzanatokkal, ja, meg dzsesszdobszolóval, wtf? Nemtom, szerintem nem működik, max élőben egy klubban sok piával.
