Candyman 3: Day Of The Dead
“Candyman 3: Day Of The Dead” seems like everyone forgot they were making a horror movie and instead were making softcore porn.
Caroline McKeever, the daughter of Annie Tarrant, is a collector of art pieces done by Daniel Robitaille, the Candyman. She hosts a Candyman art gallery with her friend, Miguel. During the gallery, Caroline is asked to say Candyman’s name five times in a mirror. She does it to prove that Candyman is a myth and Daniel Robitaille should be remembered as an artist instead. She’s about to learn that Candyman is very real.
The priorities of the filmmakers were made clear. They weren’t interested in making a horror sequel that explored Candyman’s story more in-depth. They were interested in casting a Playboy model and putting her in situations that were provocative. Every chance they get, they put Donna D’Errico in a white tank top without a bra or just forgo her clothes entirely. With all the other main actresses in this movie, the filmmakers take every chance to have them be shirtless. The story is just the same as all the other movies in the series so far. Candyman gets summoned, he starts killing people, and the protagonist has to confront him because he has something of importance. The special effects in this film are cheaper than they’ve ever been in these movies. Some scenes have fake bees glued onto the characters. The fake bees don’t move so it’s really hard to take character deaths seriously. Then they superimpose low-quality pre-keyed footage of bees over the characters which made everything even worse. The characters in this film are basic as hell. Everyone lacks real depth or motivation. The farthest this film will go is to make certain characters overtly racist. The whole Day Of The Dead angle this film is going for is purely for aesthetics. It’s clear that the filmmakers weren’t interested in portraying this Mexican holiday in an authentic manner. Finally, the biggest problem with this film is its inconsistencies. Characters will go into a scene with one facial expression and in the next cut, they’ll have a completely different one. Some characters will die face down, but then in the next shot, they’re laying on their backs. All of these factors make it undeniable that the people making this movie just wanted to make a Playboy model their personal plaything.
