KBJ Jackson King V
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. April 5th, 1986
“The first thing to note about the Jackson King V, otherwise known as Kill Bon Jovi, is that the model was named after Robbin Crosby of Ratt who had the nickname “King.” I had talked with those guys before as we’d hung out and done shows together. I probably first saw that guitar when I was talking to him at some point. The main reason it caught my eye, and that I got that guitar in the first place, was because it was bigger. Robbin was a big guy, 6’4” or something. He was huge. The regular V looked tiny on him, and I thought it was pretty exciting to have this bigger V. I liked the big jumbo frets. A lot of the LA guitar players were playing faster. That’s right around the time when scalloped necks became a big deal with Yngwie Malmsteen and some of the shredders. I’m pretty sure Kirk had a guitar that had a scalloped neck, but I didn’t find that appealing.
Being the rhythm player, I rarely went above the twelfth fret, so, for me, it was all about the speed. I wanted all my guitars to play fast, but there were certain ones that played faster than others. Some guitars sound fast but don’t play fast, and some guitars play fast but don’t sound fast. They’re not tight and punchy. Maybe this was a little lighter, plus it looked like a weapon, which was always kind of cool. Jackson guitars were a big deal at that point, and we had some connection with them, although, to be honest, I think we might’ve gone ahead and bought this one because the connection wasn’t strong enough yet. The other thing about Jackson is that they were pretty popular, and all over the West Coast. We were a West Coast band, so I got it. And when I got the guitar, I really wanted it to be nice and work, which it obviously did in the immediate term for what we were after.”

Hello and good morning Amity Park. I’m Tiffany Snow, filling in for Lance Thunder. Today's Thursday, September 8, and there is a 10% chance of rain. Highs are in the low eighties and lows are in the mid sixties.
Lance has taken a day off to celebrate his birthday. Please wish him a happy birthday if you see him today.
A bipedal shark ghost with fishnet stockings and platform heels has been seen running around town. The shark seems to be completely harmless, but keep your distance just to be safe
In ten days, on September 18, rock band, My Chemical Romance will be playing in the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, not too far from here. They will be playing songs from their new album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. Now that sure does sound like an exciting, mind control free way to spend your weekend.
The Fenton’s will be driving. Be afraid.

Waka Flocka said he is black and didnt sell his soul at ‘Wild N Out’ tour in Chicago
If you are anything like me you probably though Waka was buggin on Sway in the Morning the other day. He mentioned he was not Black and it caused a frenzy on the internet. Well on the Chicago stop of the Wild N Out tour where Waka was a musical guest he took a moment to clear the air.

Live Picks: 1/9-1/10
Tumblr media
Brothers Osborne
BY JORDAN MAINZER
First live picks--and post--of the year!
1/9: A$AP Rocky, UIC Pavilion
While in recent years ASAP Rocky has fallen hard from the glory of his sharp debut mixtape, last year’s TESTING at least broke him from the rut of sameness. Lead single “ASAP Forever” featured a brilliant sample of Moby’s electronica jam “Porcelain”, and the album’s guest list, including FKA twigs on the moody “Fukk Sleep”, grime master Skepta on “Praise The Lord (Da Shine)”, Frank Ocean on the beatific “Purity”, and Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes on vocals/bass/writing/production duties on the hazy “Hun43rd” (which could have been lifted from his debut mixtape). Of course, the album is true to its name; some of Rocky’s experiments fail, and TESTING might not even be his 2nd or 3rd best album. But at least he’s ambitious again.
Rappers Playboi Carti, Ski Mask The Slump God, and Comethazine open.
1/10: Brothers Osborne & The Wild Feathers, Riviera
We previewed Brothers Osborne’s set at Taste of Joliet in June:
“Country music duo Brothers Osborne’s 2016 record Pawn Shop landed them both commercial and critical success. Their highly anticipated follow-up Port Saint Joe, released in April, also charted but didn’t really reach the same level of critical hype.”
We previewed The Wild Feathers’ set at Country LakeShake from the same summer weekend:
“While much of the Country LakeShake festival features the not-so-great examples of Nashville sheen, one act this weekend stands out: The Wild Feathers, whose self-titled debut was one of my favorite country records of 2013. I guess the band’s a bit more rock ‘n’ roll than traditional country, but they blend their influences seamlessly. They’ve released one other record–2016′s Lonely is a Lifetime–but will release their third, Greetings From the Neon Frontier, on Friday. 'Quittin’ Time' sounds like a lost Ryan Adams track, while “Wildfire” is undoubtedly Eagles inspired. “Stand By You”, meanwhile, is a hard-charging rocker. The album’s also a showcase for the band’s three-part harmonies, as on 'No Man’s Land'. Live, expect to hear loads of their debut.”
