So you know how some of y’all want Goggles to break from his “happy go lucky” character and snap at some point?
WELL IVE GOT AN IDEA!!!
Here’s the idea—what if… and just hear me out for a second: but what if like the S5, I’m gonna go ahead and use all of the S5, what if they tried to bet on him? They come to Splatsville, there’s a tournament coming up, but here’s the kicker, it’s only a 1v1 tournament, meaning that it’s only single player versus another single player; no teams. Like all the other arcs, there’s a big baddie that always comes on top, let’s call her GhostSong. Not even the best eight could best her. The people of Splatsville like to use her tournament wins as an easy way to scam foreign players for their super sea snails because they never truly understand how strong she really is as a player. The S5, however, have seen what Goggles is capable of, so they really don’t hesitate when it comes down to just using him and his potential win for easy snails (and Aloha’s also in on it to try to impress this girl he likes by being all like “yeah, my friend? He’s totally gonna win this thing, just you wait), even up against another big bad because, hey, it’s just another Tuesday to Goggles, what’s it gonna hurt?
So they coax Goggles to join, and it’s really not that hard because the challenge makes him kind of excited, and his own team encourages him to do it so he’s all in on it. He beats down the first foes with ease by being the goofy dumbass he is, but then things start to get serious and it gets the S5 worried because their snails depends on this idiot winning, and they’re determined because not only is it a lot of grub to win, but they risk losing a bunch of snails of their own Goggles loses their bet. Next thing you know, he starts fumbling and just barely wins in this one match, so then that’s when they’re like “alright, we’re heading to the training field.” They start giving him grueling training, like sunrise to sunset kind of deal. Rider is making him lift weights, Army is making him do laps while reading and rereading the squidnet manual, Aloha is trying to get him to do dodging exercises, Mask is trying to teach him how to enhance his Sub weapon skills, and Skull is trying to train him to be aware of his surroundings and stay hidden… Else he’ll get sniped.
With the exception of Aloha sneaking him some protein shakes to stay hydrated and Mask lazy enough to allow him a few breaks, Goggles is just having a rough time. On top of all of that, he’s constantly being pressured by their words, too. They got the idea nailed in his head that if he loses, he’ll disappointment himself, his team, and all of his other friends, especially the S5 since they’re training him. At this point, Goggles is not only physically exhausted, but he’s mentally and emotionally exhausted because all of a sudden, this tournament doesn’t feel fun anymore… But he can’t just back out now, he promised his pals that he would win, so that he could make them and his team proud and put that so called, big bad, no good bully into her place.
… That’s the plan, right?
Of course it wouldn’t take long for Goggles’ teammates and other friends to notice the retched state he happens to be in every time he shows up for another match, and of course they’re gonna be worried out of their minds. Specs is lecturing him about not cleaning some of his scabs he got where he scraped himself on the pavement during training, Headphones is astounded by how tan his skin has become while terrified at how many sunburns he has, and Bobble is confused as to why her happy go lucky buddy isn’t as bright and joyful as he used to be, and it makes her a little sad and worried. His team, including Mitsuami tries to voice their concerns to him, and even his other friends like Emperor, Vintage, Hachi, and even all of the best eight are like “bro, are you good??? 😐” But despite it all, Goggles just shrugs it off, thinking that it’s no big deal. Really, he just doesn’t wanna have to deal with all of them being concerned for no reason—at least that’s what he believes. It’s just how training goes. No pain, no gain.
It’s all going… Manageable, but then there’s this one guy trying to heckle him. A sore loser kind of guy, and he’s trying to give Goggles hell for it. The dude makes the pretty bad mistake of hitting a nerve by making an awful joke about his mother, and next thing you know, he gets clocked right square in the nose and people have gotta hold back a snarling Goggles to keep him from tearing this guy atom by atom. It’s at that point that everyone is HORRIFIED by what’s happening, even GhostSong is shocked and is all like “oh shit 👀” because while Goggles may love his momma to pieces, he’s not the kind of person to just suddenly go off like that. Amongst the S5, Rider tries to help calm him down, but it only leads to Goggles exploding onto him. He starts ranting about how he was expecting the S5, especially Rider out of all the S5, to be proud of him. Except he’s tired, he’s been driven to the edge, and he’s just straight up exhausted with everything and he doesn’t wanna have to deal with anything for a whole month. It’s at this point that even the S5 realize that they went a little too far on him, and they all opt to let Goggles take the day off from training to cool himself down.
Although, it’s the very next day, just a day before the final match between Goggles and GhostSong, team blue decide it’s time to confront the S5. As the leader along with the co captain, Specs and Headphones are angry that a teammate of theirs is being taken advantage of by people who they looked up to and called friends. Meanwhile, Bobble is just upset with how Goggles has been acting and wants to know what happened to make him act like that. That’s when the S5 hesitantly choose to come clean about what’s going on.
Goggles happens to be taking a walk by himself to clear his mind, when he accidentally catches wind of the conversation amongst the S5 and his own team. Too curious to shy away, Goggles decides to eavesdrop, wondering what they’re talking about. Is it about him? Is it plans for their next training session tomorrow morning? Are they saying how they’re dissatisfied in him? Are they proud of him? Or-
Oh… Oh.
Yeah… I mean, you wouldn’t be happy to find out you were being used as a pawn, would ya?
So obviously, Goggles is not happy about this one bit, and in an impulsive fit of passionate anger, hurt, and betrayal, he stomps all the way up to the lobby, fighting back all the tears threatening to spill, he finds a tournament organizer or specialist, and tells them that he forfeits the match. GhostSong wins by default.
The S5 are just plain embarrassed when they find out they’ve been caught red handed, especially when Goggles shows up and announces to everyone that he forfeited the match. His team is surprised upon learning he heard their conversation, and the S5 are stunned at what he’s done, but they suddenly become a whole lot more guilty once the situation settles in an they realize, “man, we were kinda assholes to him...” Skull tries to go after Goggles to apologize, but Goggles wants none of it. No part in it, no words from him, no sorries, carry yourself back to the Asslands, land of the assholes. The rest of team Blue is chewing out the rest of the S5 in front of the ENTIRE TOWN, going on about how they used their friend for a pile of sea snails where everyone else can hear them. Even Aloha’s crush is disappointed in him. Now mans is gonna die alone 😭.
Amidst the crowd, GhostSong is actually quite displeased with the sudden change of mind from her could’ve-been opponent. That’s an understatement, she was not gonna take that as an answer. She was anticipating that match the whole tournament, she knew about team blue the whole time and she was EXCITED to get to play against Goggles because she thought she would get to experience something new for once, other than another egotistical player who she’d just sweep under the feet and kick to the curb once she’s finished beating them in the final match. So… Ghost decides to go have a little talk with him. Said talk actually turns out to be a little motivating to Goggles, and it’s actually just what he needs to get back into higher spirits. She also makes sure no bets are made so no one can take advantage of the game and trade snails. If someone still tries… Then they were gonna have a little friendly talk with her, in the alleyway.
Cut to the match. No surprise that GhostSong is the first to take the advantage and gain dominance over the stage. However, unlike any other major player Goggles ever had to face, GhostSong was playing to have fun, and she wasn’t taking anything seriously, which was a mistake Goggles was doing himself. All of his training with the S5 made him so stiff and too serious in the way he played, and he struggled an embarrassingly long amount of time from the start to the middle. Until he just, let it all go. GhostSong kinda had to help him unwind by playing childishly with him, and it gave him the confidence to unwind and do what he did best, bringing back his true self into the match.
And yeah, he probably goes on and tosses his clothes aside in the match, causing GhostSong to be like “😶” while Specs, watching from the audience is like “Yep, Goggles is back in town. 😑”
In the end, Goggles wins. And for the first time in a while, GhostSong smiles a real, genuine smile under her mask. A shake of hands, and the two a now a pair of good friends. (She starts ruffling his hair hehehe).
After the match, the S5 take it upon themselves to come up and apologize for, well, being piece of shits and using and abusing their friend for rare currency. Goggles… Actually doesn’t forgive them at first, and he probably never will, as what they did was pretty scummy, but he’s not mad at them no more. He just wants to go back to playing games and having fun with all his buddies like the good ol days, and the S5 are happy with that.
Fin.

I don't know if anyone else feels this way but I think a big reason why I'm so chill about the changes made to the PJO show from the books is because I kind of look at each other as their own seperate canon.
Like, I read a lot of anime and manga, and anime adaptations have a huge habit for changing plot points for various reasons, and as a fan of said anime and manga, I've found that I can enjoy both versions of the same story even with the differences when I look at them as their own universe or canon. That's not to say I don't want them to be faithful or true to the source material, but if a scene or situation plays out differently for a logical or entertaining reason, than I can still appreciate that deviation from the manga even if I still like the other original version of that part more. And I can even like the reversal way if I feel an anime does something better than even the manga. But if I want to, I can look at certain moments as more canon than others because I got 2 different versions of that same scene or moment.
And, I don't know, I kind of apply that reasoning to the PJO series as well, mainly with the books, the show, and even the musical (not the movies put that right back where it came from). So far I'm loving the TV show, and while I miss some of the things they changed (like the pink poodle), this adaptation really is doing a great job with staying true to the heart and spirit of the original book that I personally am not even really bothered by the changes, especially when I remember that the books will always still be there with it's own version, or canon, of events.
Like, I will say 1 thing I adore in the books that isn't really in the show is the fact that a lot of Percy and Annabeth's "rivalry" during TLT has more to do with the rivalry between Poseidon and Athena. I just really like on how this adds a level of "forbidden friendship/love" to their relationship 'cause I personally eat the forbidden relationship trope up, especially when it's done well like with Percabeth.
Yet, even if this isn't really the reason percabeth have beef with each other in the show, I can still appreciate and enjoy that according to the show's canon, they have issues because they genuinely have problems with each other as actual people rather than their parents' rivalry, because at the end of the day, that's the PJO TV show canon, and I can always turn to the books for that version of Percabeth's "rivalry", as that is the PJO book canon.
Same goes for the characters too. I will always have and love my dark haired Percy and blond haired Annabeth in the books, but I can also welcome and love Walker's Percy and Leah's Annabeth from the show. And so far, they along with Aryan are KILLING IT as those characters.
I can love both versions of the characters.
I can love both versions of the same story.
I can look at both versions as they own seperate canon or mix them together if I so wish too (especially since both versions of PJO are written by the same guy)
And that's ok. The adaptation doesn't have to be a complete copy of the books. It doesn't have to have things play out eactly the same way. The characters don't have to look exactly the way they are described as in the books. And that's ok. I will still always have the books to love and appreciate, but I can also start to love and appreciate the new adaptation for it's new spin and twists to the same story that sets it apart as it's own canon while still staying true to the spirit of its predecessor.
Anyway, sorry if I'm not making a lot of sense. I just think the people complaining about the changes in the show are looking at it all the wrong way. The show has it's own canon just as the books have their own canon, or even the musical. At the end of the day, isn't that kind of cool to have different versions of the same story and characters? Doesn't it give you so many more options to look at the story in different ways that you can prefer or choose from? Doesn't it give you new versions of canon that you choose from? And really, as long as the PJO adaptation, or any adaptation for that matter, stays true to the heart and spirit of the original story and characters, do the changes made really matter?

You know I feel like the placement of Beast Yeast and Odyssey is kind of confusing for newer players, especially if they don’t really interact with the fandom and know when the stories are supposed to take place
Odyssey’s not as bad, but you unlock it after finishing Episode 12, when it only happens after Episode 14, after the Dark Cacao storyline. It’s probably not the worst thing, but if you decide to start it after Episode 12, I feel like it could be confusing as to why Dark Cacao’s there at the least, since you haven’t met him or you’ve only barely seen him if you’ve started Episode 13
But as for Beast Yeast, you unlock it after finishing Episode 8, despite it taking place after both Odyssey and probably more importantly, Episode 18. Heck, you unlock it right before the Pure Vanilla story. So I mean starting off, you might not even understand why Pure Vanilla’s there. As I recall, you don’t really know what happened to Pure Vanilla by that point and that he’s still around, we were still led to believe he’s dead, right? And then you don’t really have the full context as to why they’re in Beast Yeast, since we only get the reason at the end of Episode 18, or who the Crème Republic is that gave them the airship, and if the other Ancients are referenced later on, what the heck they’re doing there. I mean okay, it might not be incomprehensible, players can probably understand that these are story events they just haven’t seen yet, but why place unlocking it so far behind the rest of the story? Because those new players don’t have context for over half the story by this point
Yeah it’s not as confusing for us already having played the game and being there when the story updates come out, but what about newer players who don’t have that context and maybe don’t interact with the fandom that much to know what’s going on?

danny phantom young justice crossover fic that starts with the losing their memories in Bialya mission (Bereft), but because something something ghosts, M'gann can't help Danny get his memories back and he has to get them back naturally.
In DP canon, everything up to and including TUE has happened, and no one died. After the events of this episode however, Danny decided he was tired of hiding his ghost half from his parents and wanted to tell them the truth, but omitting the part about being Phantom just in case.
It didn't go well so he ends up living with Vlad and telling him about Dan.
The Team and the League don't know he's a halfa, but they do know he lives with a 'creepy old Dracula wannabe that's kinda okay sometimes'. They were worried at first, but Danny assured them that everything was cool between them.
He especially made sure Batman and Robin knew that despite the guy being evil in the past, he was trying to be good now and was one of very few people that could take care of him. He didn't need two detectives looking into Plasmius and then falling down a rabbit hole leading to articles about the mysterious disappearance of Daniel Fenton. So he did his best to downplay Plasmius' schemes and make him seem like a competent guardian while also playing up the fact that they're ghosts so certain standards might be different than human standards.
However, this Danny, the one with 6 months amnesia, remembers his last encounter with Vlad being that the fruitloop put a million dollar bounty on his head. This Danny just finished rescuing the kids at his school from Spectra's ghost bugs. This Danny was supposed to be waiting on the curb with a bunch of other students for their parents to come pick them up.
In human form.
So when he wakes up alone in the middle of a desert he's never seen before and in ghost form, he panics. Big time.
For some reason an image of a tent stuck out to him along with a green skinned girl. Danny immediately thinks Freakshow somehow broke out of prison, fixed his staff, and controlled him again which would lead to a whole other issue because the last thing he remembered was being surrounded by people. People who would've seen him acting weird despite the fact that the 'ghost flu' should be out of his system. And considering he could remember hearing the obnoxious sound of the Fenton Ghost Assault Vehicle's horn just down the street, his parents no doubt noticed.
And that begged the question, did he transform in front of them?
He was going to spiral more, but the same girl in his head flew down and brought him out of it. He fought her at first until he noticed his ghost sense never went off and ends up following her to find their supposed teammates.
Partway through their flight, Danny started floating lower and lower before realizing he's nearly out of energy and liable to revert back to human form if he uses much more.
M'gann levitates him the rest of the way to Kid Flash and Artemis. They help out Robin and when M'gann brings them into that mindscape place they find out about the roadblock with Danny's mind/memories. The others try to jog his memory as much as possible, but after several firm denials and finally finding Aqualad, they have to leave it for later.
The episode goes more or less the same without much changes after that, but when they return to the Cave, there's a laundry list of issues that Danny has to go through.
The apparent fact that he lives with Vlad Plasmius being at the top of that list.
So, to avoid Vlad and because he has a bad feeling about returning to FentonWorks, Danny ends up staying at Mount Justice for the time being.
After debriefing and a checkup from Red Tornado, he hits the showers with the others feeling exhausted and worried out of his mind for his friends and family. When he takes off the top of his jumpsuit and glimpses himself in a mirror though, all of his thoughts are directed towards the large Y shaped scar on his chest.
At this point, Danny becomes incredibly paranoid because he has no clue who could've done that- he doesn't know the GIW that well so he doesn't think of them and he didn't want to think about the only likely people being his parents. Thus, he does what comes easy.
Blame Vlad.
This begins a long week and a half of Danny staying at the Mountain and blocking every call that comes to his phone.
He had a feeling that Vlad would buy multiple new phones in an attempt to contact him (he's right) and if it weren't for the fact that he was declining Vlad's calls instead of letting them ring, he has a feeling the fruitloop would tear Amity apart looking for him.
Vlad does eventually storm Mount Justice as Plasmius and it's a whole confusing mess that ends with him stuck in a thermos while trying to explain his and Danny's living situation.
Danny refuses to believe that he left his home of his own free will to stay with Vlad and Vlad hints towards Danny having a bad identity reveal without mentioning his halfa status. Danny's trying to convince himself and the others that his parents love him and that they would never hurt him, but then Vlad drops the bomb.
-
"They should love all parts of you, Daniel. You can't just let them pick and choose, especially not for something like this."
"They do love me! They-"
"For ancients' sake, you told them you were a ghost and they cut you open!"
Danny's breath hitched and he stared at the thermos with wide eyes. The rest of the Team were watching with poorly hidden worry. "H-How did you-?"
Vlad sighed and in a quieter voice he said, "Who do you think did your stitches?"

how to go from a one-shot/conversation spawned from thinking too much about an unseen father to more than a dozen fic ideas and an overarching narrative about family heritage (and the generational trauma that comes with it), the importance of communication, and how all lives touch other lives to create something anew and alive in one easy step

it's nice that we're getting anything i guess, but, i'm gonna be what may come off as a little petty and whiny here; it'd be cool if either iteration of the gen 9 anime so far was actually about gen 9's characters instead of using them as cameos to promote original stories we have no investment in yet
it's like, i dunno, like the bait and switch with sonic appearing in wreck it ralph ads, except if wreck it ralph existing meant there would never be a sonic movie, and if you were invested in those characters and recognized they weren't generic platformer mascots, sucks for you, nobody cares
maybe they're just giving the DLC space to do its thing with them first (if they do anything at all...) but idk, i was cautiously optimistic about nemona in horizons, only for her to be a character of the day that the episode wasn't about, and pretty excited by "gen 9 prequel anime" only to find out it's going to be like, four short stories about OCs who have quick brushes with them. these are like the lacroix hint of what an anime about the game could've been like and you're left to imagine the rest yourself
i shouldn't be that surprised if the gen 8 anime reduced hero of galar hop to a character of the day with a level 5 wooloo in order to let the galaxy revolve around ash battling his brother because epic charizards, but man. what if it wasn't like that that now that ash is gone.
we haven't seen penny and team star at all because they're the hardest to talk about without bringing up the trauma of school bullying and the fear of being yourself at school when you're way too young to be dealing with all that drama responsibly. she's still learning to love and forgive herself and feel wanted.
arven's story is about, like, being a latchkey kid to a self-absorbed parent, being unsure how to feel about repairing the relationship or how seriously to take them saying they love him, and struggling to make friends due to misdirected resentment toward people he's jealous of for having apparently normal families and the stubborn self-reliance he was forced into. he's still trying to process things, find himself, and let people in.
nemona is supposed to have been a directionless lonely and depressed kid who hated being called gifted when everything was hard for her, until she met the player character and gained a peer who understood and appreciated she was a little different and she didn't have to mask her true self to have friends anymore. she's happy for now, but may still be under a little too much pressure to be perfect at the expense of her own personality, and probably won't deal well with being abandoned.
as much as they resonate with adults and are a little darker than usual pokemon fare, they're also smaller scale and realer. they are all stories that are explicitly about and meant to be relatable to kids going to school! y'know, your audience! you don't need to paint over them with 3-4 new characters and new stories every time like there was nothing there, or something shameful you need to sanitize and cover up! you can just use the game the way it is!
this got a little more heated than i intended, i just feel a little ridiculous waiting anxiously for loose scraps of a sign that this story isn't over and in the trash already and nemona's life-changing attachment to the player character isn't going to go totally ignored, as we are bombarded with what is supposed to be followup material that almost all seems eager to talk about literally anything else like they think the main story was a mistake they need to run away from
now, i'm not one to complain about original stories being told, but this was already a story that had room to grow. imagine a world where the gen 9 anime was actually about nemona, arven, penny, and the friend who brought them together. or what their lives were like before that friend came along. every episode. that would get me to watch the anime again and whatever movie came out for it. ask yourself why we don't have that, or even the traditional, like, 1-2 characters tagging along with the MCs per region thing that would leave us knowing them better than we know some irl friends
how was starting over with 100% original characters and new lore that might conflict hard with the upcoming DLC the safer bet? why is a 44 minute miniseries specifically for fans of the game making up OCs for them to get invested in and scrambling to tell their stories as quickly as possible before throwing them in the trash instead of being about the damn game?
sigh. i shouldn't get invested in a series that's about selling monster plushies just because it had one story that stuck with me
