Defying Expectations (OC Dialogue Scrap)
Context: Karina my new spunky Human-Caitian hybrid OC, and the recently promoted commander of the U.S.S. Tempest. Her prior role was Chief of Security, Evaris has a very different way of running things than she had.
Karina: I see you’ve requested to transfer out over half the officers out of my old department Evaris. May I ask why?
Evaris: Would it surprise you if I said it was logical?
Karina: No, but I need a bit more detail than the usual Vulcan catchphrase if you get my drift.
Evaris: A fair assessment commander. Computer, raktajino, 2 ounces cocoa butter.
Karina: Isn’t chocolate an intoxicant for Vulcans?
Evaris: *raises an eyebrow and sits back down. He takes a sip without breaking eye contact with her* Would you like one?
Karina: Why not?
Evaris: Computer, replicate the previous order. To put it simply, I require discretion, speed, and unmitigated trust in my decisions. I removed those I felt did not meet those criteria.
Karina: So you cut the people who you wouldn’t follow you blindly?
Evaris: *chuckles softly* On the contrary, I eliminated those who would. Unmitigated is not the same as unquestioning. I expect independence, improvisation within my perimeters, but not insubordination.
Karina: Strict standards huh? Lieutenant, I know you worked for Starfleet Intelligence, but our people aren’t spies. The Tempest is a Virtuoso, she’s not a fighter.
Evaris: I am well aware, thus security officers who do not think only as warriors would be ideal aboard this vessel correct?
Karina: Yes, but-
Evaris: Permission to speak freely Commander?
Karina: … Go ahead.
Evaris: I am asking you to trust me. If you want to dispute the transfer of specific officers I welcome that discussion. Do not mistake this for a punitive judgement on your shipmates or upon you. Every officer I have suggested to remove will be moving to equal or greater positions better suited to their abilities. You have your standards, I have mine.
Karina: Hm. You know, you’re not at all what I expected Evaris. Forgive me if my previous encounters with Vulcans too heavily informed my impression of you.
Evaris: You are forgiven. I believe you’ll find there is much about me you’ll find inconsistent with your impressions of my people, and with their impression of themselves.
Karina: Cryptic, but I think I got you. Cheers to defying expectations.
Evaris: Cheers.

Last chapter, here we go!
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4
Gordon learns who Trench really is.
------
The walk along the beach was surprisingly peaceful, and Gordon found himself relaxing a little, although he knew there was no way he could fully let his guard down.
Trench broke the ice. “So, you must have questions. What do you want to know?” He asked in that tinny voice of his.
“Okay, that one’s easy enough.” He chuckled without any humour. “Who the hell are you?”
Trench paused. “Oh, right. Thanks for reminding me.” The mask was off before Gordon could even blink. He held back a gasp when he saw who it was. “It’s been too long since I felt the crisp sea air on my face. Can’t take the mask off in front of the Aquaphibians. I’d be dead in two seconds flat.”
“Troy Tempest…?”
The man in front of him bowed. “The one and only.”
Gordon frowned, trying his best to regain his composure. “You’re the last person I’d expect…” Shore hadn’t been kidding at all, had he? This was bad. This was really bad. “You and Titan hate each other.”
Troy hummed. “That was before he… shall we say… opened my mind to Marineville’s faults.”
More like brainwashed, Gordon thought, but didn’t say aloud. “What about Atlanta? Phones? Fisher? All the people you left behind? I’m sure they all miss you.” When Troy didn’t answer, Gordon changed tactics. “Okay, then what about me? I know you’ve met Scott and Virgil before, so that explains how you knew we were siblings, but it doesn’t explain how you knew I was IR.”
Troy smiled. “X20. He was on a routine mission to Marineville and overheard your little conversation with Shore. Which he then reported back to me.” They approached a large rock, and Troy gestured for Gordon to sit next to him. Gordon glared at him in reply, but eventually complied, fearing what might happen to his brothers if he didn't. “It was simple to set up a disaster that would be too hard for International Rescue to ignore.”
“So it was you who attacked the USS Rodgers.”
“I would’ve thought that would be obvious. It was my tracker that allowed me and my men to follow you here.” The other man hummed. “The plan originally was to follow you to your base and seize your technology. Well, that was Titan’s at least.” Gordon raised an eyebrow. “My plan was to just talk to you. I’m glad you found the tracker. Makes my task of explaining our failure to the King easier.”
The aquanaut froze. “Wait, just making sure I’m understanding. You were never going to attack our base? You really were just going to talk?”
Troy grinned. “I may not be on the surface dwellers side anymore, but I still consider you a friend. And Titanica has no pre-existing quarrel with International Rescue. Attacking you would be unwise.”
“You’ve changed your tune.” Gordon hissed, not falling for any of it. “You were taking my brothers prisoner less than ten minutes ago, and now you’re saying that ‘attacking us would be unwise’. I see right through you, Tempest.” He frowned. “Or should I be calling you Trench now?”
Captain Tempest, Captain Trench, whoever it was in front of him, sighed. “Look. I meant what I said. No harm will come to them. As a matter of fact, if the Aquaphibians hurt them, I’ll end them myself.”
“Bet Titan won’t be happy about that.” Gordon scoffed.
“I learned he doesn’t care a long time ago. So long as someone does the work and the work is done.” Troy retaliated. “And I learned that when I was in WASP.”
“I see.” An uneasy silence followed. Gordon had just one question to ask. “Okay, I’ll bite. Why talk to me in the first place? Why not just disappear?”
More silence. For a minute, Gordon didn’t think Troy would answer him. But eventually, he did. “To say sorry.” He said in a low voice. “Sorry I didn’t manage to say goodbye.”
Gordon’s eyes widened in realisation. It had been too quick, leaving WASP after his accident. He hadn’t been able to stay at Marineville General for long. His injuries had needed to be specially treated. And since he’d already been honourably discharged following the whole mess, he’d never gotten a chance to wave farewell to the group of aquanauts who had taught him so much, who’d done their best to steady him and be a secondary family. He’d never gotten that closure. But then of course, neither had they.
“I’m sorry too. Sorry that I lost touch with all of you. Sorry we’re on opposite sides now…” For the first time since Troy had made his presence known, Gordon looked at him. Really looked. “You look exhausted, Tempest.” He said honestly, and was surprised at his own concern. “How hard is Titan working you?”
“Oh, it’s not that bad.”
Gordon gave him a look, channelling his best Scott impression. “Troy.”
“The undersea races don’t need as much sleep as humans do.”
The look hardened. “Troy. How much sleep do they get?”
Troy winced. “Four hours? At most?”
“And Titanica is the better option over Marineville?”
The other aquanaut huffed. “I’m not going back there.”
“Then leave Titanica at the very least. You don’t have to work for WASP. Just…” Gordon paused. “Just come back to the surface. You said yourself, you haven’t felt the air on the surface for ages.”
Troy sighed, looking out to the sea. “I can’t do that. The ocean is my home now…” He frowned. “Plus, I’d be in for one hell of a Court Marshal. They’d track me down, make me pay for leaving WASP, and then I’d be stuck in a prison cell.” He laughed dryly. “What sea air would I feel then, Gordon?”
“That’s what you think, Troy, but the truth of it is that WASP will defend you. And that’s because you didn’t leave. You were taken.” Gordon frowned when Troy froze, confirming his worst thoughts. “I’ve got it, don’t I? Titan abducted you. He moulded you into someone you’re not, and then he forced you to fight your friends.” Troy’s continued silence was damning. “Tell me I’m wrong!”
“How dare you speak of Titan in that way? He saved me from that life.” Troy’s voice was barely above a whisper, and Gordon immediately knew he’d pushed too far. He couldn’t stop himself from looking down. He knew though, he was right about what Titan had done. The tyrant couldn’t kill his worst enemy, so instead he shaped Troy and his mind as he saw fit. “I will not return to life on the surface.”
Out the corner of his eye, Gordon noticed the mask slip back on. He supposed Trench was fully back. A crunch was heard as he crushed something in his hand. Gordon recognised the tracker that had let the Aquaphibians follow them here in the first place. “I will not tell His Majesty about this conversation we had, but I believe that conversation is over.” He pressed something on his collar, and began speaking in the Aquaphibian language. Gordon could only barely make it out with the little he’d been taught at WASP. His brothers were being released. “As promised, your brothers are unharmed. I strongly advise that the three of you leave. The rest of your family must be worried.” He gestured in the direction of the Thunderbirds, letting Gordon lead the way there.
The aquanaut breathed a sigh of relief when he saw them standing there in front of Thunderbird 2. He broke off in a run, just wanting to stick to them like glue now. When they saw the look on his face, they frowned. Scott glared in Trench’s direction. “He didn’t hurt you, did he?”
“No! Absolutely not. Just…” He looked back at Captain Trench and his Aquaphibian men. He didn’t like what he saw in his old friend, now a new enemy. “I just want to get home.”
His two brothers nodded, clearly agreeing with his decision. It had been a difficult day. And as Thunderbirds 1 and 2 both lifted into the air, Gordon processed everything that had just happened. It took a while. All throughout the journey home and the debrief, where Scott had the unfortunate task of telling their father what had just happened. Jeff Tracy was out for blood now, and Alan had looked mortified. .
Gordon took his secret to bed with him, locking the door for as much privacy as he could get with three brothers in the house and one able to get in contact from space at any given moment. He turned on his video-call, taking a deep breath as he typed in the familiar number. His heart beat in his chest as it rang. Finally, the person he was calling answered.
“Hello?” Voice only. Dang it. Oh well, it was better than nothing.
Swallowing down his nerves, he continued what he’d started. “Hi Atlanta. You probably don’t remember me, but I’m Gordon Tracy. I used to work with you at WASP.”
The woman on the other end gasped. “Of course, Lieutenant Tracy! It would be difficult to forget you.” Gordon smirked. His reputation still preceded him, then. “Father said he’d contacted you about temporarily replacing a crew member. Have you changed your mind?”
He shook his head. “I’m afraid not. I called to talk to you about something else.”
“Oh?”
“I, umm…” He hesitated. This wasn’t going to be easy to tell her. “I… saw Troy earlier today.”
“Oh.” Atlanta’s voice wilted. “So you know then.” It wasn’t a question. “He tracked you down.”
“Yeah, and…” Gordon sighed. “I just wanna talk to someone about what he said. Someone who’d know…”
“You don’t have to finish that sentence, Gordon. I understand. Do you want to talk now?”
“Yeah, I would.”
So that’s just what they did together. They shared what had happened among themselves. The conversations they’d had with Troy since his turn and how they felt. And Gordon felt so much lighter, to know he wasn’t alone in this feeling.

Thank you for the tag @friendofbats!
Sorry it's taken me so long - I really struggled to find 4 ships 😅
The Rules: Tag (9) people you want to know better and/or catch up with, then answer the following:
Four Ships
In no particular order
1. The Titanic (1912)
2. The Millennium Falcon (Star Wars)
3. The Ever Given (Suez Canal March 2021)
4. The USS Enterprise NCC-1701 (Star Trek)
...
...
...
OK, OK, not that kind of ship. Gotcha.
For real though, this was kinda hard because I'm not a big shipper. I tend to just go along with the default canon ships. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of ships, but I had to really wrack my brain to find four I love.
1. Female Shepherd x Garrus Vakarian (Mass Effect trilogy)
I was not expecting to feel so strongly about this ship, but after recently replaying the ME trilogy and romancing Garrus this time, I was blown away by the chemistry between him and FemShep. The voice actors do a phenomenal job anyway, but they really brought their 'A' game to this relationship. It made the ending all the more bittersweet for me, knowing how ME3 closes out...I just want these 2 to be together forever, dangit!
NB: I know the player chooses Shepherd's appearance and how they respond to certain situations, but I still see Shepherd as a defined character, rather than an OC/self insert.
2. Nina x Galen (Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life)
Does it still count as a "ship" if they've already been married for decades when we meet them? Eh, I'm counting it.
When I think of OTPs, I think of characters I can't imagine with anyone else. That defines Nina/Galen for me. They clearly mean the world to each other.
3. Fox x Vixen (Animals of Farthing Wood)
I've spoken before about how the AoFW cartoon was my childhood. Well, these 2 were my OG ship. I can't think of Two characters more meant to be together.
Tumblr media
Even the narrative (in the books, at least) calls out how unusual their bond is, with the two choosing, unlike other foxes, to stay together long after their cubs are grown up. I love the way they respect and admire each other, how there's never even any question of anyone else for either of them, and how, even when times are tough, they never turn their frustrations on each other.
4. Robin x Starfire (Teen Titans 2003)
Tumblr media
I've always enjoyed 'Friends to Lovers' stories - Which makes a lot of sense since I realised I'm demisexual 😅 My favourites are the stories where they've been friends for a long time, before something shifts and they finally realise they see each other as more than friends.
I think that's part of the reason I resonate so much with this ship.
Last Song: Eyes Closed by Ed Sheeran
Currently Reading: Shadow by Michael Morpurgo
Last Movie: um... I really can't remember what my last movie was. It's been that long since I consciously sat down to watch a film
Craving: it's a cliché, but: milk chocolate. 😅🍫
No pressure tags: @sneakyfox55 @lizzie-tempest @hannahcbrown @acustardduckling @harvestpokerune @devaneiosblues and anyone else who'd like to have a go 🙂

Only the bursting of the cabin deck allowed some of the crew to escape from a watery grave. All of her hands were carried down with her. the force was so great, it literally ripped the trees off the bank and the BERMUDA suddenly dropped to the bottom. Putting more and more pressure on the mooring lines. Apparently the schooner continued to fill, The story goes that Captain Michael Finney beached her near theĪnna River, near the present paper mill, making her fast to several This would certainly cast doubt on the wisdom of her departure. When she left the docks in Marquette, it was said that she already had two feet of water in her hold. The pounding of the waves caused her to start leaking and her captain brought her to shelter in Munising Bay where she reportedly filled and sank. After loading 488 tons of ore she departed on October 14, but was overtaken by a gale off Grand Marais. In 1941 two of the Cyclops’ sister ships similarly vanished without a trace along nearly the same route. On Septemshe left the lower lakes for Marquette with aĬargo of general supplies, arriving without incident. “Only God and the sea know what happened to the great ship,” U.S. The Cyclops never sent out an SOS distress call despite being equipped to do so, and an extensive search found no wreckage. An especially infamous tragedy occurred in March 1918 when the USS Cyclops, a 542-foot-long Navy cargo ship with over 300 men and 10,000 tons of manganese ore onboard, sank somewhere between Barbados and the Chesapeake Bay. Nonetheless, reports of unexplained disappearances did not really capture the public’s attention until the 20th century. William Shakespeare’s play “The Tempest,” which some scholars claim was based on a real-life Bermuda shipwreck, may have enhanced the area’s aura of mystery. Readers of Sport Diver Magazine consistently vote Bermuda as the 'Wreck Diving Capital of the Atlantic. Although beautiful, the reef is treacherous, and there are over 300 shipwrecks to prove it.

Bermuda Shipwreck Snorkel Bermuda is home to over 200 square miles of the Atlantic's most northerly fringe reef. He also wrote about erratic compass readings, perhaps because at that time a sliver of the Bermuda Triangle was one of the few places on Earth where true north and magnetic north lined up.ĥ Objects Used in British Royal Ceremonies and Their Symbolism When Christopher Columbus sailed through the area on his first voyage to the New World, he reported that a great flame of fire (probably a meteor) crashed into the sea one night and that a strange light appeared in the distance a few weeks later. The area referred to as the Bermuda Triangle, or Devil’s Triangle, covers about 500,000 square miles of ocean off the southeastern tip of Florida. In fact, people navigate the area every day without incident. But although myriad fanciful theories have been proposed regarding the Bermuda Triangle, none of them prove that mysterious disappearances occur more frequently there than in other well-traveled sections of the ocean. Other boats and planes have seemingly vanished from the area in good weather without even radioing distress messages. Navy bombers became disoriented while flying over the area the planes were never found. Unexplained circumstances surround some of these accidents, including one in which the pilots of a squadron of U.S. The Bermuda Triangle is a mythical section of the Atlantic Ocean roughly bounded by Miami, Bermuda and Puerto Rico where dozens of ships and airplanes have disappeared.

Vermont class guided missile battleships:
Tumblr media
"After the Soviet Union shocked the postwar naval world with the launch of the 21,500 ton “heavy guided missile ship” Belorussiya in September of 1963, they ignited the most unlikely of events – a second battleship arms race. Within two years construction had begun on counter designs by the US, Great Britain, and France. The first to enter service was USS Vermont (BBG-72); she was commissioned in July of 1967.
The first battleships designed in the US since the Montana class (canceled in July of 1943), the four Vermont class ships; Vermont, Idaho, Nebraska, and Oregon, displaced nearly 27,000 tons standard and were 755ft (230m) long overall. The ships were capable of 33 knots with a range of 10,000 nautical miles and were armed with four 12”/55 Mk 9 rapid-fire guns in a new design Mk 60 twin turret mounted fore and aft. The Mk 9 was based on the 12”/50 Mk 8 guns used by the Alaska class adapted for use with semi-fixed ammunition (based in turn on the 8”/55RF Mk 16’s used by the Des Moines class heavy cruisers) with a practical ROF of 4-6 rounds per minute and a maximum range of 21.8 nautical miles – slightly better than the 16”/50 Mk 7’s mounted on the preceding Iowa class. Secondary guns consisted of six single 5”/54 Mk 42 guns amidships.
The primary missile battery comprised two Mk 18 four-round armored box launchers also located fore and aft for the RGM-33 Falchion anti-ship missile. The Falchion was a turbojet-powered supersonic cruise missile with semi-active radar homing guidance and a range of 130 nautical miles. Surface to air defense consisted of a RIM-24 Tartar launcher forward while a single ASROC box launcher amidships provided a limited ASW capability. Two Kaman UH-2 Seasprite helicopters could be accommodated on the helipad aft with an additional UH-2 stored in the below deck hanger.
Of the four ships built, USS Nebraska (BBG-74) was sunk during the South China Sea Crisis in 1977. The surviving ships were modernized in 1983-84 which included switching out the obsolete Tartar missiles for the new RIM-73 Tempest (although the Mk 13 launcher could only fire the short-range Tempest without the booster stage), and replacing the Falchions with RGM-81 Rapier anti-ship missiles fired from two Mk 32 launchers with protected below deck 14-round magazines. Four Mk 77 Paladin CIWS mounts as well as updated radar, fire control, and ECM systems were installed and the UH-2’s were replaced with SH-2F LAMPS I helicopters.
All three ships continued in frontline service until 2006 when they were decommissioned and placed in reserve.

Star Trek: Phantoms
Tumblr media
A short story by Azure Mallone (Inspired by Heatblur Simulations’s video in partnership with Eagle Dynamics)
The Dominion War: Two months following the first battle of Chin’toka
The USS Izumo snapped out of warp in the still twinkling starlight just outside Ferenginar in the Da’kuma System of Dominion held space. The gleaming hull of the Excelsior-class starship streaked past the burning remains of a Ferengi Nandi-class warship and several hulks of escorts. The carnage was still unfolding before her as Dominion warships fought the allied fleet. Only two Excelsior-class starships of Izumo’s kind had been crafted, and it was time to test her new weapons platform. A platform that hadn’t been seen in generations.
Like her sistership, the USS Tempest, Izzie was unlike any other Lakota-refits. Instead of cavernous cargo holds, they held hangar bays full of redesigned, modern versions of old Terran fighters. Unlike her sister, Izzie carried a compliment of tactical interceptors intended to take on the smaller, more agile craft the Dominion employed whereas the Tempest carried strike fighters with multi-role capability in a more strategic configuration.
The F-4F Phantom was reborn the KD-56 Gryphon. A single-pilot fighter craft employing a pair of Runabout-class engines and using an ancient, uniquely Orion-syndicate method of twisting plasma exhaust into a powerful vortex, amplifying thrust and agility. Inertial dampening and structural integrity field generators having been combined into a single unit barely powerful enough to reduce the G-forces to 9 Gs -- Hardly the gentle jerk-and-lean of a runabout in a tight turn.
It had been an experimental program just following the Tzenkethi war. A joke among Starfleet that fighters were useless against starships. Yet the Tzenkethi war had shown that size mattered not against a determined adversary whilst simultaneously demonstrating that bigger was not always better. The Dominion employed similar tactics of the savage viciousness displayed by the Tzenkethi. Starfleet already trained cadets in and used fighters for inner system-defense. As such, it wasn’t difficult to expand the program and resurrect the “Top Gun” School.
The fighter designs that came about focused on simplicity and elegance against over-reliance on redundancy and covering all the bases. Shields came from a single but powerful shield generator that operated by computer dedicated to predictive analytics, which also managed the weapons guidance systems. Instead of traditional shielding protocols, it operated by maintaining a solid wall that snapped up into position to block incoming fire. It could create any number of panels divided across the area surrounding the craft, proportionate to the size and strength required to block, deflect, or diminish lethality. Failing that, ablative hull armoring took the brunt of whatever got through.
Another focus was in visage. The fighter needed the look. It needed to look like a pure weapon of war. No soft or utilitarian curves, only operational functionality. So from deep research, it was found that the two craft that best could be used in both space and atmospheric flight conditions were the F-4E and F-18E fighters. Both were given new names as the Gryphon and Valkyrie, respectively.
As for weaponry, the designers settled on forward-facing pulse-phased phasers similar to the USS Defiant designed weaponry, and the Runabout-class micro-photon torpedoes but mounted underwing in two flavors: Photon and Quantum. They were developed to the specs of both missiles and bombs in two categories each. Powered and Kinetic flight were the categories to conserve resources respective of mass. The craft could carry a single pair photon torpedoes or one quantum torpedo of full-size underbelly, and a string of kinetic or powered smaller variants intended to take on weakened or lighter targets underwing. Such was also reborn the Sidewinder Photon Ship-to-Ship Missile last used aboard the likes of the NX-01.
What of the pilots? Once the word was out, it became apparent that pilot ratings meant squat. A shuttle pilot with a rating above six could fly damn near anything, but just wasn’t made of the right stuff. Washouts and medical issues abounded once cadets and officers alike were exposed to high-G maneuvers. It almost ended the program until Ensign Miyu Kitagaru brought to light the problem.
It wasn’t enough to be trained to pilot the fighter. It, like those who sought to become Starfleet Marines and succeeded in doing so, required a certain mindset. Her recommendation pointed out people like the disgraced cadets of Red Squadron and the rationale that the training didn’t account for this kind of driven individual. She was one of the few who was successful in the program. Not long thereafter, Captain Lieutenant Junior Grade Joel ‘Copperhead’ Nesmith found himself sitting in his very own Gryphon looking at the subtle Cherenkov glow of a forcefield keeping the hangar pressurized, on a catapult, with stars and the heat of starship to starship battle ahead.
Born in Nebraska, raised in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating High School in Vulkan, Michigan; Joel had been all over the place. He’d grown up watching any old movies he could get his hands on by digging through long forgotten old towns. Holos were just not the same as the storytelling from the early days of the 20th Century. His favorite movie was on an ancient format called a Blu-Ray that he’d found buried in the rubble of old St. Louis on a spelunking expedition: The Last Starfighter. Once the computer had finished decrypting the old format, he’d come to love the story of an aimless kid getting caught up with an Alpha Centurian to combat the warlike Kodan Armada, led by the evil Xur intent on destroying the peaceful Star League. Like young Alex Rogan, he too was aimless.
He’d joined Starfleet because of that movie, and others. Having grown up watching Star Wars and Galaxy Quest, it had an appeal to him to see what it really was like out there in the Galaxy. No career had any pull other than command, but he was disappointed to learn there weren’t any fighter pilots outside solar defense stationed on any starbases or starships. His self-image of Alex Rogan was still as fantasy inasmuch as ever getting a chance to wield a light saber and learn to use telekinetic powers gifted by the Universe.
Until he’d met Miyu, he’d never knew this program existed. He’d never dreamed Starfleet would even have such a program expanded to be building such beautiful starcraft. And for all the Top Secret documents he had to sign, his hand cramped from thumbing away his life on each page so quickly as to not even bother reading most of them. The day he saw his first starfighter brought back that thumping in his chest for all the excitement and anxiety. He muttered, “You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Kodan Armada." Only a glance to his right did he notice Miyu’s barely-visible smirk.
“Whiskey-One-Niner-Foxtrot cleared for launch. Good hunting.” The crisp voice of Caitian flight deck commander Lieutenant Commander M’rahrl purred back. He loved her voice. Joel slapped down his helmet’s visor, gripped the yoke, slammed the throttle forward, and lit the ionic afterburners with his thumb. The counter in the HUD hit zero, and with the full thrust of those ridiculously overpowered engines connected to the railgun they called a catapult, he and his wing launched in staggered formation out the neck of the top-secret Izzie.
Several more sorties launched behind them, each feeling the same slap in the chest of being accelerated to forty-kay-peas relative to the ship they just left. The shrieking howls of plasma tortured in magnetic turbines rippled through the hangar with each launch, and kinetically audible even on the bridge with each thump of the catapults. In the span of just under a couple of minutes, thirty-two fighters in eight sorties had launched the compliment of the 2nd Starfighter Wing.
Glancing briefly at the printed second graduate class of the Top Gun School photo he kept on his instrument cluster, Joel felt invigorated. The smiling faces of his classmates standing next to one another. He and four other Star Aces, saluting behind the group, with first class graduates Lieutenant JG Miyu ‘Vampire’ Kitagaru, Ensigns Marcie ‘Jersey’ Kline and Maria ‘Lace’ Martinez, who were now stationed aboard the USS Tempest. Flipping an old-fashioned switch, Joel peered at the weapons-hot icon, clicked the yoke’s selector to Sidewinder mode, and locked onto the first Jem’Hadar fighter coming into range.
The right corner of his mouth quirked into a half-grin and narrowed gleeful eyes, Wing Commander Copperhead sent the signal to strike.

I’m thinking of a celebrity au for supergirl
Karamel. Highly successful triple threats. Actors. Singers. Models. Kara models Prada. Mon El models Ralph Lauren. Mon El is a stage name that he uses for his music career. His real name in this is Mike Matthews. Their niche is Shakespeare. They’ve won multiple awards for a cross cast musical production of Hamlet. It secured them an EGOT each. And now they’re working on a sci-fi epic film version of Romeo and Juliet.
James x Lucy. James used to be a highly serious dramatic actor but now he’s breaking into comedy. Luckily. Lucy’s a very caustic standup comic (think Don Rickles and Patton Oswalt). So they’re creating their own show together. They just need to convince the studio to let James play a wacky optimist
Samantha x Winn. Samantha’s a soap opera actress. Ten nominations. And only one consolation award. But that hasn’t stopped her from trying though. Winn’s a multitalented stage actor. Singer, actor, lyricist, choreographer, writer and director. In fact. His directorial debut was the Hamlet production that Kara and Mon El won awards for.
Brainia. Also Shakespearean actors. They once played Lysander and Hermia alongside Mon El and Kara as Demetrius and Helena in a midsummer night’s dream. It was actually how they all met. Now they’re starring in a big screen remake of cheers. With Nia as the fun loving barkeep and Brainy as the stuffy intellectual
J’onn x M’gann. J’onn used to be an actor. He even won an Oscar for his first film role. But a personal tragedy led him to retire and now he’s Kara and Mon El’s bodyguard. M’gann works at Grant Talent as a 50% shareholder and personally represents Samantha and Winn
Lord’n’Luthor. Lord is a washed up action star. His biggest claim to fame was a bit part as Nicholas Cage’s murder victim in a Z lost horror film ten years ago. Lena’s not that much luckier. She’s been kicked off every tv and film set she’s been a part of for absolutely ridiculous prima donna behaviour. And now she’s being sued by Eve Tessmacher for cultivating an unhealthy work environment
Lillian x Morgan. Lillian is a highly respected but extremely volatile soap opera actress playing Samantha meddling aunt. And she keeps trying and failing to use the goodwill she has to save her tearaway stepdaughters concrete headed career. Morgan plays her on again/off again ex husband on the soap. A relation that mirrors real life quite closely.
Cat. A former child actress. Now she’s one of the leading talent agents in the country. She personally represents Kara and Mon El. Would be the first to admit that she somewhat favours Kara more. But she’d cause a scandal just to protect either one of them from harm.
Carter. Prospective child actor. His most wanted role is either Salem in a Sabrina movie, Bart in a live action Simpsons movie or Ariel in the Tempest. And thanks to his his hard work. He’s just got his first role. The voice of the AI on the USS. Montague in Mon and Kara’s sci-fi epic version of Romeo and Juliet.
Ruby. A tad more experienced than Carter. Scared everyone shitless and brought them to tears as the manifestation of her mother’s split personality on the soap opera she stars in. She won a daytime Emmy. Her mother did not.
Alex. Used to be a stunt double until she fractured her ankle. Now she’s looking to break into acting. Her first role. Benvolio in karamel’s R&J sci-fi epic. She’s looking forward to something not too strenuous
Eliza. Alex and Kara’s mother. Famous in her own right. Terrified audiences across the world as Lady Macbeth in an early naughties miniseries. Which was immediately followed by an equally chilling turn as the eponymous character in a Hercules show from Hera’s point of view. Now headlines a medical series examining the politics of a hospitals administration department in the 1980’s. Although she’s also eyeing up a sabbatical so she can return to the stage as King Lear

Star Trek: Lower Decks Episode 9 Easter Eggs & References
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Star Trek: Lower Decks article contains spoilers for Episode 9. You can read our review here.
If you started watching new Star Trek in the past ten years, that means your introduction to the franchise might have been the J.J. Abrams reboot films. From 2005 to 2017, there wasn’t any new Trek on TV, making the movies the only representatives of new stories set in the Final Frontier. This was also true for a big chunk of the 80s, before The Next Generation debuted in 1987. Arguably, without the success of the Trek films — either in the ‘80s or in the ‘00s — subsequent renaissances of Trek on TV wouldn’t have been possible. The latest episode Star Trek: Lower Decks is fully aware of this fact, and in episode 9 of season 1 — “Crisis Point” — the show tips its hat to the larger-than-life cinematic voyages of Starfleet.
Along the way, there are references to all 13 Star Trek feature films, at least two versions of Star Trek that were never made, and one iconic shout-out to Aliens. Here’s all the Easter eggs and references we caught in Lower Decks episode 9, “Crisis Point.”
They’re eating those guys!
The lizard aliens Mariner is trying to liberate seem to be oppressed by an alien that looks suspiciously like an Antican. In the TNG episode “Lonely Among Us,” the Anticans were self-described carnivores who kind of looked like dogs. In that episode, the Anticans were rivals with a reptilian-like species called the Selay. These lizard people don’t look like the Selay, but the reference seems clear.
This is the ‘80s!
Mariner complains about how she doesn’t need therapy because “this is the eighties!” She’s right! Lower Decks takes place in 2380 and depending on how much time has passed in Season 1, we might be in 2381. This also seems like a reference to the fact that even though we think of TNG as a ‘90s show, it debuted in 1987.
Mariner’s therapist is Paul F. Tompkins
The bird-like therapist (maybe an Aurelian?) is played by Paul F. Tompkins. In our universe, Tompkins is the co-host of the current official Star Trek Podcast; The Pod Directive, along with Tawny Newsome, the voice of Becket Mariner.
Da Vinci on the Holodeck
When Mariner enters the holodeck, Tendi, Boimler, and Rutherford are all shooting skeet with Leonardo da Vinci. This references da Vinci’s appearances as a holodeck character on Star Trek: Voyager, as played by Jonathan Rhys-Davies. However, this is also, possibly a reference to an unused script idea for a TNG feature film that was never made. Because this entire episode is about movie-versions of Trek, it seems possible that this is a slight nod to a script called Star Trek: Renaissance, which was developed shortly before First Contact became the second TNG film. In that unfilmed script, Data would have traveled back in time and become da Vinci’s apprentice. Really!
Boimler’s simulated crew
Boimler creating an entire holographic version of the Cerritos crew has several precedents, but the most on-the-nose episode being reference is probably the Voyager episode “Worst Case Scenario.” In that one, Tuvok created a holonovel that simulated a situation in which the Maquis tried to retake the USS Voyager. The simulation even meant that Tom Paris encountered his holographic self at one point, which is exactly what happens with Mariner later in the episode.
Opening credits
The opening credits to Mariner’s “movie,” are mostly reminiscent of the opening credits to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, although the warping streaks behind the letters recall a brief title style used by The Next Generation during the season 5. The way the letters are flying past the Lower Deckers might reference the opening credits to the original Christopher Reeve-starring Superman film from 1978.
“You were kind of a Xon, to be honest”
Mariner says that in her movie, Boimler would be “kind of a Xon,” and that he might not make the final cut. This references David Gautreaux’s Vulcan character Xon, from the unmade ‘70s series Star Trek Phase II. Xon was intended as a kind of replacement for Spock because, at that time, it was unclear if Leonard Nimoy would return for the role. David Gautreaux does appear in Star Trek: The Motion Picture as a human named Commander Branch.
Artistic license
When the Cerritos is sent to track down a mysterious imposter starship, Boimler says “If this was actually happening, they’d send the Enterprise, but you know, artistic license.” This references the Enterprise itself, obviously, but also the idea that in several Trek movies, the Enterprise is bizarrely the only ship available to respond to a distress call or strange situation. In The Wrath of Khan, the Enterprise is sent on a dangerous mission involving a top-secret project. In Generations, the Enterprise-B is the “only ship in range” to assist refugee ships caught in an energy ribbon. In both cases, it feels odd that the Enterprise is the only ship that can help out, but you know, artistic license.
The long approach via shuttlecraft
Think it took a long time for the shuttlecraft to land on the Cerritos? This is an extended joke that references the loooong wordless scene in The Motion Picture in which Kirk and Scotty lovingly stare at the newly refitted Enterprise until, eventually, docking and getting on the ship. In TMP,  the reason why Kirk and Scotty make the long approach via shuttlecraft (rather than just beaming over) is that the transporters aren’t actually working. But, in subsequent Treks, from TNG’s “All Good Things…” to “Caretaker” in Voyager, people tend to take shuttles to get onto big starships, even if it makes zero sense. Perhaps the only scene like this that makes actual sense (other than TMP) was in the first episode of Enterprise. In 2151, the transporters weren’t reliable!
Lens flare
The bridge of the Cerritos is bathed in lens flare, referencing the extensive use of this camera technique in the J.J Abrams-directed, 2009 Star Trek reboot film.
Warp Me!
Captain Freeman saying “Warp Me!” references her workshopping a catchphrase in the earlier Lower Decks episode, “Envoys.” In that episode, she wondered if “It’s Warp Time!” was a good thing to say before ordering the ship into warp.
The “movie” warp speed effect
When the Cerritos jumps into warp, the effect is way more bombastic than on the show. This references the warping effect in Star Trek Into Darkness, but also the rainbow warp speed effect from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
“Our revels now are ended”
As Vindicta, Mariner says “Hell is empty and the devils are here” and also, “Our revels now are ended.” Ransom asks, “Is she quoting The Tempest?” The answer is yes, which not only references The Tempest by William Shakespeare but also the fact that General Chang (Christopher Plummer) said “Our revels now are ended, Kirk!” as he was attacking the Enterprise in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. More recently, Picard quoted The Tempest during Data’s “death” in the season finale of Star Trek: Picard, “Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2.”
Mariner’s energy weapon
The super-destructive phaser used by Vindicta/Mariner has a similar vaporizing effect as lasers used in the TNG “As Loud as a Whisper.”
The pah-wraiths and Jax’s giant phaser
In the Cerritos bar, Jax says “When you get to hell, tell the pah-wraiths that Jax sent you; special delivery from Bajor!” The pah-wraiths are the “evil” versions of the Bajorian prophets, which first appeared in the DS9 episode “The Assignment.” Jax’s giant phaser seems to be a reference to a huge weapon Guinan busted-out in the bar in the TNG episode “Night Terrors.” The design of this phaser rifle also seems a lot like one of the giant weapons used by Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch) in Star Trek Into Darkness.
The Pirates Orions
Tendi pushes back against the stereotype that all Orions are pirates and slavers. The Orions were first established in TOS episodes “The Cage,” and “Whom Gods Destroy,” and later in the TAS episode “The Pirates of Orion.” It wasn’t until the Enterprise episode “Bound” when it was revealed that certain Orion “slaves” were actually manipulating their “masters” to create an illusion of who has the real power. Tendi isn’t the first Orion we’ve seen serving in Starfleet — Uhura’s roommate Galia (Rachel Nichols) Star Trek 2009 was Orion — but it’s never been fully explained the relationship between the Orions and the Federation. In TOS, TAS and in the Short Treks episode “The Escape Artist,” we get the general idea that every aspect of Orion society is connected to crime and pirating. Tendi points out this isn’t true, and that some Orions haven’t been pirates for “over five years!” So, it sounds like some kind of Orion reform happened in 2375!
The destruction of the Cerritos
When the Cerritos burns up in the atmosphere of the planet, the effect is similar to the way the Enterprise burned up in the atmosphere of the Genesis planet in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock. But, when the saucer crashes on the planet’s surface, that references the saucer crash of the Enterprise-D in Star Trek: Generations. The Enterprise’s saucer also crashes on the surface of a planet in Star Trek Beyond.
Weird movie beaming
Rutherford says he uses a “a rapid repeating transport sequence” to beam the entire crew to safety. Billups is utterly confused as to how this is possible, and Rutherford says “No, it’s a movie you can beam whatever- you can do all sorts of beaming stuff in a movie!” This references several times that beaming tech in Trek film has been downright miraculous, as opposed to the slightly more reasonable beaming in TV series. In Star Trek: Generation, Scotty is able to beam 47 people off of one ship with a touch of a button. In Star Trek (2009) Spock helps Kirk and Scotty beam from a planet and onto a moving ship traveling at warp. In Star Trek Beyond, Scotty converts a cargo transporter so it can beam up dozens of people at the same time. In The Voyage Home the crew beam up some humpback whales. You get it.
Get off my mom, you bitch!
Holographic Mariner’s battlecry against Vindicta is not a Trek reference! This line is a reference to the climax of Alien in which Ripley said “Get away from her, you bitch!”
Toby Targ on Halloween
Mariner apparently dressed as “Toby the Targ” when she was a kid for Halloween. A targ is a type of Klingon pet that kind of looks like a dog crossed with a pig. The educational children’s character “Toby the Targ,” comes from Voyager. B’Elanna Torres owned a plush Toby the Targ, and the Doctor was familiar with the publisher of the “Toby the Targ ” stories, Broht & Forrester.
Rickety catwalk
Throughout the episode Mariner is obsessed with having a fight on a “rickety catwalk.” This probably references the ending of Star Trek: Generations, in which Kirk and Picard fight Dr. Soren on a series of rickety catwalks. But, Riker and his duplicate, Thomas Riker, also have a big confrontation on a rickety catwalk in the TNG episode “Second Chances.”
Do you like turtle necks or just standard uniforms?
Boimler absent-mindedly asks Captain Freeman if she likes “turtlenecks or just standard uniforms.” This seems to indicate that the DS9-style turtleneck uniforms might still be in service in some parts of Starfleet in 2380. Either that, or Boimler is wishing those uniforms could make a comeback.
Mariner is buried in rocks
Captain Freeman buries the body of the holographic Mariner in a strange grave made of rocks. This references the ending of Star Trek; Generations, where Picard buries Kirk in the exact same way. Why did Picard not wait to have Kirk’s body taken back to a starship? Why would Freeman have her daughter buried on a random planet? It’s a movie! Don’t ask questions!
Vindicta’s return
Before being shot by da Vinci, Vindicta rises out of a photon torpedo tube. This references the ending of The Wrath of Khan, which shows that Spock’s casket landed on the Genesis Planet. During the filming of the The Wrath, this scene was actually filmed at the last minute, and was overseen by Robert Sallin because director Nicholas Meyer was opposed to hinting that Spock was still alive. In other words, the photon torpedo casket was a small retcon inside of The Wrath of Khan, which is why it’s fitting to have it as the coda in this episode. Just when you think it’s over — somebody’s gonna rise from the dead.
Da Vinci shooting Vindicta with a shotgun could be reference to the very first episode of Enterprise — “Broken Bow” — when a farmer shoots a Klingon with a shotgun in the first scene.
Signatures at the end
At the very end, all four of the Lower Deckers sign their names in spacey blue ink across a starfield. This references the ending of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country in which all seven cast members of the original series sign their names over the ending credits. This concept is interestingly used for the ending of Avengers: Endgame, probably because Marvel president Kevin Feige is a self-professed Star Trek fan. So, is this a reference to the TOS crew and the Avengers? It’s an episode of Lower Decks, so it seems like you can totally have it both ways.

Star Trek: Lower Decks will air its Season 1 finale next Thursday on October 8.

Bermuda Triangle
The Bermuda Triangle is a mythical section of the Atlantic Ocean roughly bounded by Miami, Bermuda and Puerto Rico where dozens of ships and airplanes have disappeared. Unexplained circumstances surround some of these accidents, including one in which the pilots of a squadron of U.S. Navy bombers became disoriented while flying over the area; the planes were never found. Other boats and planes have seemingly vanished from the area in good weather without even radioing distress messages. But although myriad fanciful theories have been proposed regarding the Bermuda Triangle, none of them prove that mysterious disappearances occur more frequently there than in other well-traveled sections of the ocean. In fact, people navigate the area every day without incident.
Legend of the Bermuda Triangle
The area referred to as the Bermuda Triangle, or Devil’s Triangle, covers about 500,000 square miles of ocean off the southeastern tip of Florida. When Christopher Columbus sailed through the area on his first voyage to the New World, he reported that a great flame of fire (probably a meteor) crashed into the sea one night and that a strange light appeared in the distance a few weeks later. He also wrote about erratic compass readings, perhaps because at that time a sliver of the Bermuda Triangle was one of the few places on Earth where true north and magnetic north lined up. William Shakespeare’s play “The Tempest,” which some scholars claim was based on a real-life Bermuda shipwreck, may have enhanced the area’s aura of mystery. Nonetheless, reports of unexplained disappearances did not really capture the public’s attention until the 20th century. An especially infamous tragedy occurred in March 1918 when the USS Cyclops, a 542-foot-long Navy cargo ship with over 300 men and 10,000 tons of manganese ore onboard, sank somewhere between Barbados and the Chesapeake Bay. The Cyclops never sent out an SOS distress call despite being equipped to do so, and an extensive search found no wreckage. “Only God and the sea know what happened to the great ship,” U.S. President Woodrow Wilson later said. In 1941 two of the Cyclops’ sister ships similarly vanished without a trace along nearly the same route.
A pattern allegedly began forming in which vessels traversing the Bermuda Triangle would either disappear or be found abandoned. Then, in December 1945, five Navy bombers carrying 14 men took off from a Fort Lauderdale, Florida, airfield in order to conduct practice bombing runs over some nearby shoals. But with his compasses apparently malfunctioning, the leader of the mission, known as Flight 19, got severely lost. All five planes flew aimlessly until they ran low on fuel and were forced to ditch at sea. That same day, a rescue plane and its 13-man crew also disappeared. After a massive weeks-long search failed to turn up any evidence, the official Navy report declared that it was “as if they had flown to Mars.”
Bermuda Triangle Theories and Counter-Theories
By the time author Vincent Gaddis coined the phrase “Bermuda Triangle” in a 1964 magazine article, additional mysterious accidents had occurred in the area, including three passenger planes that went down despite having just sent “all’s well” messages. Charles Berlitz, whose grandfather founded the Berlitz language schools, stoked the legend even further in 1974 with a sensational bestseller about the legend. Since then, scores of fellow paranormal writers have blamed the triangle’s supposed lethalness on everything from aliens, Atlantis and sea monsters to time warps and reverse gravity fields, whereas more scientifically minded theorists have pointed to magnetic anomalies, waterspouts or huge eruptions of methane gas from the ocean floor.
In all probability, however, there is no single theory that solves the mystery. As one skeptic put it, trying to find a common cause for every Bermuda Triangle disappearance is no more logical than trying to find a common cause for every automobile accident in Arizona. Moreover, although storms, reefs and the Gulf Stream can cause navigational challenges there, maritime insurance leader Lloyd’s of London does not recognize the Bermuda Triangle as an especially hazardous place. Neither does the U.S. Coast Guard, which says: “In a review of many aircraft and vessel losses in the area over the years, there has been nothing discovered that would indicate that casualties were the result of anything other than physical causes. No extraordinary factors have ever been identified.”

Move on Dragons Ch14
Run.
Jump.
Soar…
And fall.
Jay- or should he say Tempest now, as his true self’s friends have named him- wasn’t sure why he was trying so hard to do it. To fly. By now, the others could spend a good minute in the air before they got tired. He couldn’t even lift off the ground for more than a second, no matter how his dragon half tried to tutor him. He was feeling… Frustration. Man was that an unusual concept. He hated it. He had a little over half a day left. 12 hours, 32 minutes. His long tail swept the ground irritably. That was another thing. This endeavor was pulling so much out of him and he wholey blamed the ‘true’ Jay for that. The large black dragon everyone was taking to call Dad, much to said dragon’s delight, had told him the fault lies in his serpentine genes. His bone structure was different from the others, his spine far more flexible and the disposition of his weight different. They weren’t sure how to teach him, was what it came down to.
And the other him’s precious team? They were almost sickeningly encouraging. Telling him to not give up and that he’d learn soon. Tempest frowned. And that was yet another thing. Why couldn’t he just give up? It would be easier to. Less of a hassle. He wanted to and to just throw the whole idea out the window… But… He couldn’t. And wasn’t that even more annoying.
He glared outside, at the thunderstorm brewing outside, emotions he wasn’t used to brewing beneath his scales. He gave a low, irritable hiss mindful of the sleeping dragons around. He stood then, making up his mind. If they can’t teach him, then he’ll have to teach himself. He glanced over at his shoulder, unsurprised as glowing gold and red eyes looked back at him, belonging to the dragon elders. They nodded simultaneously, in a way only brothers could and he turned away before jumping out, spreading his wings to help him glide down. He landed roughly still, the rain already soaking him in the dark of night. He wasn’t deterred, taking off to a specific place he saw on the map, back at the Bounty. He had roughly 12 hours left to sate this almost insatiable itch he’s developed and he won’t stop until he’s done so.
Garmadon and Wu meanwhile, shared a pleased look from where they laid next to each other, their dragonlings under their large wings to provide warmth in the face of the chilling winds. Some lessons can’t be taught… But they can be learnt on their own with time.
_____
Tempest stood at the edge of the cliff, the winds off the rough sea blowing up the side of the cliff, clashing with the winds of the storm still, creating an area of chaotic winds. He straightened his back, thunder rumbling overhead. If he was going to do something as bothersome as teaching himself, he may as well challenge himself while doing it. He took off with a running start, wings spread and hanging low before he jumped- only to be flung up in the air by the force of the winds off the sea then slammed back into the ground by the winds of the storm. He grunted as he pushed himself up, mud coating his back but he grinned, teeth glistening in the flashes of lightning as his eyes glowed menacingly. He was borderline being forced to do this. He already decided he wouldn't stop until he mastered this, only because he felt he had no choice. It doesn’t matter how many times he gets batted around. He had to keep getting up. With that, he got to his feet again, took off again and hit the ground twice as hard. He only kept getting up however, unable to quit. Lightning was his element and so were storms in extension. He’ll master this, no matter what.
___________
“Where’s Tempest?” Cole asked once he woke up to the curly haired brunette nowhere in sight.
“I was just about to ask.” Lloyd says as he looked around from above, using it as a means of early morning exercise for his wings.
‘Tempest’s missing?’ Kai asked as he slithered out from Garmadon’s wing, shivering a bit at the sudden change from warmth to cold as the storm outside continued. ‘That’s not good. He’s not himself and-’
‘He’ll be fine.’ Wu dismissed, glancing at them through a large golden eye. ‘He had something of importance only he could do.’ He told them and they looked at each other with a frown, Nya and Zane not with them to meet up with Pixal who would be dropping by today to help figure out how the device Vortica gave Zane worked.
“I trust your word but if he doesn’t come back soon, we’ll go looking for him.” Cole says as Lloyd touched down again.
“Yeah. I mean, Tempest isn’t bad once you get used to him but… He’s all we’ve seen all week and we're still not clear on his intentions still.” Lloyd says as Little G, as they’ve taken to calling the small dragon that was his father, climbed up his head and settled into the warmth of his hair. “I’m kinda worried…” He admits with a small frown.
‘I think you’ll be seeing Jay soon though.’ Dragon Jay whom they’ve taken to calling Wisp to clear confusion says from his place huddled under Garmadon’s wing, his head poking out. ‘Tempest’s been acting a little off, as if he was in a rush to learn how to fly… I’ve been trying to teach him directly but well, no progress. I remember him mentioning a specific amount of time the day before yesterday. Shard helped me calculate your time and it ends in roughly an hour from now.’ He explained to them, gesturing to Shard which was the new name of Dragon Zane.
“Maybe he and our Jay made some kind of deal on the time he spends out?” Cole suggested, looking to Lloyd.
“Maybe…” Lloyd murmured, tail flicking as he thought. “But if he still doesn’t turn up by then, then we’ll go looking for him.” He says as he walked back towards Dad, putting his wings and tail away as he did so he could duck back under his wing were everyone else was.
They were all pressed together tightly to make sure they could all fit. He then settled in the crook between his dragon self’s head and front paw, Green Bean (called Greenie for short which he absolutely disliked which made it more fun to call him that) not stirring from his sleep. Lloyd stared up at the black wing of his second (third?) father as Little Garmadon settled against his chest now. He just hopes Jay is doing ok out there… Tempest too...
_____
Tempest was actually getting the hang of it. After countless total wipeouts and several times nearly drowning in the rough sea, he was starting to develop a pattern. An ephiany even. The way the dragons tried to teach him to fly was too stiff, too restricted for his body type. He was more serpentine than dragon after all and even less human. He needed to work with the changes to his body. Serpentine were fluid, like water in their movements. He needed to apply the same for his flying as moving in that way helps to distribute his weight to something his wings could carry. His tail was by no means light after all and the length of it had only served to throw him off before. Now, it was perfect for tight, winding turns and speed. A huge gust of wind threatened to throw him out of the air but he pulled his wings closer and spun, winding through the gust then heading higher still, towards the clouds as he beat his wings harder and faster.
Finally! Finally he was doing it and- He flew up through the storm, the lightning that struck him arcing along his body and up the horns that started on his head, ending at the tip of his tail. He burst through from the dark clouds, the sudden assault of sunlight almost blinding him as he flew still. He panted as he came to a hover, blue skies all around and the warmth of the sun being his only company. He looked down as he heard thunder rumble, seeing the storm brewing still below. He didn’t know what caused it. Maybe it was the high altitude getting to him but laughed then, his cheeks hurting with the wide smile that accompanied it. He flew in a backwards loop then paused again, chuckling as he swiped his tears away.
“You know, you’re a real pain in our asss.” Tempest huffed, not able to fully wipe the smile off his face.
“Me?!” Jay sputtered as he took over. “You’re the ssstiffy with a ssstick up your asss. I mean, if we're gonna ssshare this body, you need to know when to loossen up, pall.” He huffed, crossing their arms.
“All you’ve done iss caused me nothing but unnecesssary trouble.” Tempest says with a roll of his eyes as he took over again. “And who sssayss we’ll be sssharing anything? You’re going to take your body back and conssider healthier meanss of dealing with ssstresss. I’ll fade out.” He told him and Jay frowned as he took over again- yelping when he almost dropped out of the sky.
“Watch the wingss. Are you trying to get yoursself killed?” Tempest snipped as he took over again, righting them and starting a descent back into the storm, landing on the cliff’s edge. “Thiss body issn’t ussed to flying yet to do it on itss own.” He reminded.
“Heh. Might have ssslipped my mind.” Jay says sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his head and Tempest gave a drawn out sigh in the back of his mind. “And come on, you have to admit; flying iss pretty amazing, no matter how many timess we ate dirt to get here.” He grinned then grimaced.
“Ssspeaking of, if you ever make me eat another animal- raw and alive- I’ll ssscream for a full day.” Jay says then worked his jaw, noticing that yes, he could open his mouth wider than he remembered.
“Would you rather I let you ssstarve?” Tempest asked with an arched brow. “And bessidess, you aren’t human anymore and won’t ever be. Raw food iss pretty much your new diet. You ssshould get ussed to that.” He shrugged, pushing his hair back as they were soaked.
“... You can ssstick around you know…” Jay says quietly and there was silence.
‘What’s with the sudden change of heart?’ Tempest asked from the back of his mind. ‘And that’s still a no-go. Not only is existence too troublesome, but we don’t need you getting complacent with my presence.’ He told him, voice noticeably more distant.
“But flying was troublessome, wassn’t it? Wassn’t it worth all that trouble in the end?” Jay asked, watching the sea throw itself at the cliffs. “And you’re kinda your own person now ssso you can choosse when to pop in. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I so took awarenesss for granted and would 100% not do that whole ssslumbering thing again but... We can coexisst like this and you can just sssleep the resst of the time if you don’t like being around that much. At leasst try it out before you turn it down.” He urged and he could feel Tempest frown.
“Look, I thought you were an assshole before but you really sssaved me from sssaying some dumb ssstuff back then. Plus I got a little time to get to know you. You’re not half bad. Sssarcastic and melodramatic yes-”
‘Who are you calling-’
“But not bad.” Jay shrugged, ignoring his protest with a cheeky grin.
Tempest sighed. He’d never admit it but he had a point. Flying was a pain but it stole his breath in the end.
‘... Fine.’ He caved and Jay whooped. ‘Don’t get too excited. I’m only giving this thing a test run and if it’s too much trouble I’m going.’ Tempest warned but Jay’s grin didn’t falter.
“Deal!” He yelled then turned around, looking at the forest. “Now uh, before you sssleep or whatever you have planned, could you uh... Point me back in the direction of the Dragon Tower?” He asked sheepishly.
‘You really are hopeless.’ Tempest sighed as he took control of his body, taking to the air and heading back. ‘And you should really learn how to talk in your mind else people are gonna start thinking that you’re crazy… Not that I’d blame them…’ He mumbled.
“Yeah, you’re prob- oh! Uh…” Jay says, facepalming. ‘You’re probably right.’ He finished in his mind, perking up once the tower came into view.
Tempest let him take over and Jay quickened his pace, missing his friends. Sure he’s been around but it wasn’t exactly him and he wasn’t aware of anything then, only Tempest, distantly. He liked the name though. Cole was pretty good with them.
“Guyss!” Jay yelled as he flew in, landing on his feet a bit unsteadily.
“Wait- Jay?!” Cole asked with wide eyes noticing the difference immediately in his tone.
“The one and only!” Jay grinned cheekily- grunting immediately after once he was swept up in a hug.
“Oh buddy! We’ve missed yah!” Cole grinned, giving hima squeeze then set him down.
“Good to have you back, Jay.” Lloyd smiled as he walked over, hugging the blue ninja then backing up so Kai could nuzzle him.
‘But if you’re back, then what about Tempest?’ Kai asked him.
“He’ss ssstill around. I convinced him to ssstick around.” Jay shrugged then rubbed his arm. “Look guyss, about earlier, on the Bounty…” He began but Cole waved him off.
“It’s alright. I mean, I’d flip out too if I was suddenly and irreversibly a serpentine. I mean, remembered when I became a ghost?” He reminded them and yeah.
They’ve all had their moments before.
“Ssstill ssstuck like that, Kai?” Jay asked, looking up at the large red dragon who nodded.
‘Everytime I try to turn back-’ Kai was cut off once his form suddenly shrunk, leaving him standing on all fours still in his half dragon form.
“Would you look at that.” Kai says as he stood on his back legs, looking at his hands.
Fingers! How he’s missed them.
‘And all it took is for you to stop pushing it.’ Garmadon says dryly and Kai shot a pouty look to his adoptive dragon dad.
“Let’s see if I-” Kai cut himself off as he frowned. “Oh. Um.” He squeezed his eyes shut, trying harder.
“What’s wrong Kai?” Cole asked, confused and Kai looked at his fists then up at his fellow ninja.
“Looks like this is as far back to human as I can go.” ___________
(Ok, now we can do timeskip. I was actually gonna get rid of Tempest (big thanks to my resident duck friend for the name suggestion and my resident rat bestie for all the other names) but like, I like him too much to completely get rid of him. So having him pop up from time to time is good. Also the reason why Tempest ended up feeling the need to learn how to fly was because of Jay if you haven't picked it up. And lastly; a names list
Dragon!Lloyd: Green Bean/ Greenie to mess with him Split personality Jay: Tempest Dragon!Jay: Wisp Dragon!Cole: Rocky Dragon!Zane: Shard Dragon!Nya: Mist Big Dragon!Garmadon: Dad (written as just Garmadon as well) Little Dragon!Garmadon: Little G Oni!Garmadon: Lord Garmadon
The Wus remain the same. Dragon!Wu is simply Wu and Sensei Wu is Sensei Wu.Thanks for reading!)
