The Ziegfeld Follies of 1927 was the first Follies to feature a star performer--Eddie Cantor--and the first to have all its songs written by a single composer--Irving Berlin. Although it received tepid reviews ("His formula has never failed," wrote Time magazine. "But as nothing subscribes more unreservedly to the law of diminishing returns than [a] succession of splendors, this last superbly heralded Follies achieves only another anticlimax."), it was a hit, running for 167 performances from 1927-28.

In addition to Cantor (who appeared in nearly half the numbers), the show featured Claire Luce, Cliff Edwards (aka Ukelele Ike; 13 years later he was the voice of Jiminy Cricket in Disney's Pinocchio), Ruth Etting, and the Brox Sisters.

"Shakin' the Blues Away" was the show's big number, and Etting made her breakout appearance leading it.

There was also a jungle scene with live animals, in which Luce entered riding an ostrich. One night the bird left the stage in a flurry and, instead of depositing Luce in the wings, kept on walking, out the stage door and onto West 43rd St.

Below is the first page of the program for the October 17, 1927 performance. Note the sententious legend, "He who glorifies beauty glorifies truth." Would Keats have approved?

The 1927 Follies was the last of 21 annual shows. It was revived briefly in 1931, but didn't continue. The Follies were essentially vaudeville, only much more sumptuous. Later in 1927, Ziegfeld produced Show Boat at his own theater, and it heralded a change in Broadway musicals.

Riddle

Riddle invited you to study for an upcoming exam of yours, he believes you can excel it and maybe even influence Ace to study more so he could beat you

what an excuse...

the truth that he denies in his head was this study session is just an excuse so he could spend time with you.

maybe he shouldn't have? he doesn't want to bother you and he was pretty hesitant for he fears you might reject him, but you didn't. you agreed to study with him so he might as well not regret his decision.

he looked at the clock, you are running pretty late huh? he could wait for a few more minutes for you, you might be stopping Grim from eating out all of your dinner again

he lets his window for the wind to come in, his papers were stacked with the red paperclip you have him anyway and it's getting pretty warm in here.

a few more minutes and you still haven't came by barging in his door, does that mean you're busy? maybe even standing him up? oh he is going to be furious if you are, he'll need your explanation about your tardiness, perhaps Ace had been influencing you too much.

getting pretty upset by waiting for you he leans in the window and let himself be cooled down by the wind

he might've been dreaming as soon as he heard a soft tune from the outside, a guitar.

he raised his head from his slouched position and looked directly outside

You, holding a guitar playing a tune he had never heard before

Together with you is Deuce and Ace frantically looping their hands on the ukelele strings which is obviously casted with magic as it played the notes perfectly

You began to sing from your language, Tagalog is it? he couldn't understand most of what you were singing but he could recognize some words because of how you often used it around people

if he hadn't been close to you, he would've marched outside, pulled you by the ear, and lecture the three of you for hours

but instead he blushed deeply, flustered he is, he barely covered his face with one hand and the other gripping the window frame

The song soon finishes and you beamed a smile at him

"sorry i was late Riddle!! it took me a while to convince Ace and Deuce to this with me, but i hope you understand!!" you shout

he can't help but chuckle, slowly regaining his composure he breathes out, he was silent for a bit then he proceeded to let his eyebrows to meet each other in a slanted line

"YOU THREE!! IT IS QUITE LATE AND YOU DECIDE TO PERFORM THIS ACT!? UNBELIEVABLE!!" you squirmed in surprise, you thought Riddle would be happ...

He was smiling.

with a deep blush

you grin, you knew you managed to court him successfully in your own way, well your country's traditional way.

you hear Ace and Deuce giggle at the sight, you pulled both of their hands together as their magic-tuned instruments dissapear out of their grasp

"I'll go study with Riddle now, thanks for agreeing to this." you thank them, you turn away and ran inside of the dorm to get to Riddle as soon as you can and ask if he liked what you did

"REMEMBER OUR PROMISED SNACKS!!" "Uh Ace...? don't we need to remind them they are carrying a real guitar?" "Nah, just let them be, they'll look more silly infront of Riddle and I'm here for it"

Leona

Leona isn't somebody that'd be easily swoon.

He's tough towards suitors, because of his royal position he encountered a lot of them, and i mean...A LOT

mostly came with expensive gifts, honey sugared words, meek or exaggerated compliments.

he learned not to be swayed easily by them for most of the words were empty and most of the gifts are useless

he isn't someone that you can easily earn the favor of, hard to love as one might say

so tell him why is he out on his room's balcony as you play a guitar and sang a love song to him?

Not to mention, Ruggie acquainting you by humming along?

you seem to have not noticed his frustrated confused face as he pinched his nosebridge because of the noise, looking away because... well-- JUST BECAUSE.

You. you're making a noise outside the housewarden's dorm room, he is the housewarden and he is trying to sleep, what's stopping him to shout over you to stop?

...Mahal kita... he recognizes that word, it means i love you right?

You. you with no literal shame, have no shame even to the point of asking that Ruggie to help you with this shenanigan

yeah, he's not going to lie he hates people like you.

but he is also into that

ever since you realized you like Leona, you had been trying to court him.

Your gifts to him weren't as expensive as what his oher suitors would give him, but it was what you know he is fond of

your words aren't as sugar coated as theirs trying to get his attention but he pays his mind to it

your compliments weren't as exaggerated as someone normally would tell to him but they're true.

haah... this is frustrating, why won't you just stop pursuing him? didn't he tried rejecting you a couple of times?

yet again, he also backhanded those rejections with "i don't want that but you should do this instead" to see how far you can go for him and winning his heart

that's all the reason he has, nothing else.

he is not interested in you that way. not at all, no.

you finish and took a moment to catch your breath, then you once again looked up to him with eyes filled with adoration

he smirked at you waving your hand amd giving him a twinkling beam, your vocal chords are a bit tired but you kind of want to ask him if he still wants you to ligawan (court) him

He deserves this. you can't earn him with just a confession after all. you have to go all out with earning his love but you kind of ran out of ideas and this was your trick if being honest...

still by the way he is smirking endeatly and how his tail is swishing, you think you succeed to earn a bit of his endearment more.

Azul

(i don't think Azul has a window, or maybe im just wrong because the mirror thing could be a window. I'll just use MC's room for this lol forgive me)

He is confused

You barged in to his office, grabbed his hand, pulled him out, teleported and ran towards your dorm, sat him down in your room and said "Im going to do something romantic, look out the window when you hear music coming from outside"

it was a lot to take in, but he managed to take it all in and understand what are you planning...

he doesn't understand what you're planning.

You're not Floyd who would do something out of hand just because he is bored there might be a reason to this behavior of yours

and something romantic!? goodness... what do you really want from him?

from first you approached him he thought you might be just a simpleton who would see him the as what other sees, but no, some time past by you've taken a liking to him. a romantically type of liking.

You would do things that would leave him flustered, telling him compliments he wouldn't normally hear from someone, hearing you defend him when your anemone friends of yours make a jab at him and... having a crush... on him..ON HIM

He wonders what you ever saw on him that made you go "oh yeah i like that guy" his facade is all about business and he never let out a single droplet of his true self to appear dominating except that time he overblotted

Well what can he do about it? you like him and that is all, he could just use this fascination of yours to his advantage for his own sake but...

this is the first time he received such.... affection, and you show it to him on whatever you can do

he thought to himself while flusteredly sitting on your bed with his hand on his fidgeting together

soon, he hears the music you told him to wait on, he peeked his out of the window and looked over at your standing figure

you strum the guitar strings and began to sing, he knows this tune... its a song from your home world you hum sometimes

you might not be good as him in singing, but... you're definitely better at expressing your fondness of him

he knows exactly what you are doing now. its called harana, you mentioned it a lot to him before, how romantic it is and a thrilling experience of being courted.

and now he is experiencing it.

you stopped midway at the song, and yelled if he is okay

by how red he is, you thought he might be getting sick and you are getting worried.

he put a thumbs up for you to continue playing but before he could look back at you, you already ran inside to check on him

leaning in close, to check his features he took it in advance to take a peck on your cheek

"thank you..." he meekly whispered.

you were stunned then you were smiling your lips out, this is the first time he took a step for you after all. a huge brave step by kissing you on the cheek.

Reo who befriends you and everything is fine until you start dating nagi that's when Reo realized how much he loves you. He gets jealous of nagi, but he's conflicted cause he cares for both of you. Just angst of Reo pining for reader and feeling conflicted cause he cares for both you and nagi.

Oliver who simps for you so hard but he unaware of how he acts. He does anything for you even when you guys are at the friends stage. He also doesn't care for paparazzi taking pictures of you two (cause he knows you both look good). Also he seems like the type that would walk around with just a towel hanging low around his waist cause he knows it drives you crazy.

I've thought about it before, Reo and Nagi could possibly like the same woman, not because the same preference though. Nagi is immature and needs a caretaker; Reo is the caretaker and rather than settling for a person like Nagi, he wants someone he can see eye to eye with.

pretty sure Reo is gonna be the one to end up as Seishiro's best man at your wedding- cause he has a terrible time at trying to express his emotions and yell you to get out, throwing and breaking things in anger from the pain he feels everyday. And he's also gonna stay single and be an uncle to your kids - basically he's gonna be that rich uncle who will spoil them. This man can fall hard, but it is only once and that's it. Coming to Oliver. *whistles* he knows he's simping. The thing with this guy is, his image looks stupid- with being a playboy, becoming serious only when it comes to football and being a pretty talker. But real talk? he is actually pretty smart- just has a way of concealing it (like look at the manga he reads- he is a nerd.) at the friends stage, he doesn't care at first cause all this guy knows is to take and take more. Until you get into a really bad argument about it and he becomes more sensitive towards you.

As friends, if the paparazzi takes pictures of him, ik for a fact that he is gonna be bothered abt it with you when you complain abt how he should be left alone and that this was a day that was for the both of you to hang out. But when is bed that night, he will be scrolling through the photos leaked, a smile making it to his face when he sees your annoyed expression.

Relatioship stages - he is skeptical cause his past has given him trauma but with time, he knows you're not going anywhere.

Clover. you- the number of times i've thought of Oliver stepping out with a towel around his waist, dangerously close to his lower adonis belt. and rather than the normal towel, he's gonna make sure to take the smaller sized one that you use for your face (ik, he's disgusting that way) and wrap that around his waist, making sure to expose his thighs. He is shameless- and makes sure to do things that make you tick, finding it adorable.

As for Rin, going for dinner to his home is a big step for the both of you, for you cause you're going to meet his parents and this is serious phase of your relationship and for him... because he knows that he is getting close to you and it was official through his closest family circle and that Sae was going to be there as well since his parents wanted to make it a family dinner.

He is guarded about you in front of Sae 'cause honestly? the red head is the caretaker of the younger sibling and their relationship is closer to each other rather than with their parents. so he is worried when he brings you home cause he looking for approval and doesn't want Sae to ruin his chances of being happy at the same time. If they reconcile (in my head they already have as they grow older-), Sae, Rin and you actually do schedule dinners every other weekend - with the two of them arguing abt their skills on the field and you just watching the banter.

Shirtless rin? you just gave away spoilers for my next release - (つ≧﹏≦)

But yes, he does look very fuckable. and he knows it turns you on. he's just asking to be dominated atp

Malbun - Schwende/Appenzell (Zwitserland)

Woensdag 3 t/m donderdag 4 augustus

Vandaag neem ik weer afscheid van Liechtenstein. Ik heb er echt prachtige wandelingen mogen maken en heb in vier dagen (oktober meegerekend) bijna al het natuurschoon van het hele land gezien 😂. Ondanks de compactheid, heeft het toch veel te bieden, alle wandelingen rondom de stadjes heb ik bijvoorbeeld nog niet verkend, waaronder de 75 kilometer lange Liechtensteintrail. Ach, er is zo nog een reden om een keer terug te keren 😉.

Nadat ik alles ingepakt heb loop ik nog even langs de tourist information om op wifi mijn vervolgstap uit te zoeken. Ik ben er snel uit dat ik naar Appenzel ga, het gebied wat net aan de andere kant van de grens in Zwitserland ligt. Ik lees op internet dat er mooie routes lopen naar de 'Ebenalp' en naar het meer 'Seealpsee'.

Ik arriveer rond een uur of twee op een gratis en leuke camperplaats in het plaatsje Schwende. Het is, vind ik, te laat om nog een wandeling te gaan starten. Bovendien wil ik eerst uitzoeken waar ik precies naartoe wil lopen. Ook is het erg warm en benauwd vandaag 🥵.

Vlakbij de camperplaats stroomt een beekje. Wanneer ik daar langs wandel zit er een jongeman op een bankje die net uut het water is gestapt. Het blijkt een Spanjaard te zijn die luistert naar de naam Guim. We raken aan de praat en op zijn advies spring ik een uur later ook in het ijskoude water 💪🏻😀. Heerlijk! Even goed afkoelen.

Guim gaat morgen ook de bergen in en is net als mij pas vandaag gearriveerd. Hij blijkt overigens al vijf jaar onderweg te zijn en heeft alle hoeken van de wereld gezien samen met zijn broer. Zijn broer is inmiddels weer terug in Barcelona waar ze vandaan komen. Ook Guim gaat terug, begin september gaat hij voor een project aan de slag. Wanneer ik vraag hoe hij tussentijds zijn reis bekostigde, blijkt hij af en toe in een circus gewerkt te hebben. Of hij nu werkte als clown 🤡, acrobaat of iets met de techniek deed begreep ik niet helemaal, ondanks herhaaldelijk vragen. Ook maakte hij samen met zijn broer vele Ukelele's die ze verkochten aan mede-reizigers. Zijn broer is violenbouwer dus ze wisten goed hoe ze een muziekinstrument moesten maken. Guim is van origine leraar en heeft ook nog even voor de klas gestaan, maar de hunkering naar vrijheid lonkte. En nu net als ik bezig aan zijn laatste maand.

Ik krijg via een Duits gezin een kaart van het berggebied waar we willen wandelen. Ik nodig Guim uit om onder het genot van een wijntje een route uit te stippelen en verder te kletsen over de reizen die we beiden hebben gemaakt.

Ik ga uiteindelijk op tijd naar bed, want ik wil morgen voor het al te warm wordt zijn gestart. Ook Guim vertrekt vroeg, maar we besluiten om niet samen op te trekken. Hij wilt namelijk naar de top en dat lijkt mij wat ver met de verwachte temperatuur van 33 graden 🥵.

Het duurt even voor ik in slaap raak. De autoweg is dichtbij en er wordt behoorlijk veel gereden voor een uiteindelijk iets verderop doodlopende weg..🤔.

Om half zeven gaat mijn wekkertje, sta ik op en maak ik mijn klaar voor een mooie wandeling. Voor het zover is maak ik mijzelf wakker door even met mijn voeten in het ijskoude water van het beekje te gaan staan en mijn gezicht te wassen. Nu ben ik tenminste klaarwakker 😀💪🏻!

Mijn eerste stop is bij de kabelbaan, hier kan ik even naar het toilet en nog wat informatie navragen. Vervolgens loop ik in drie kwartier naar de Seealpsee. Wat een steile klim is dat! Ik ben inmiddels wel wat gewend en ondanks dat dit stuk een geasfalteerde weg is, is het bizar steil.

Helemaal bezweet kom ik bij het meer aan, wat echt prachtig is. Het eerste wat ik doe is naar het eilandje in het meer lopen, mijn bikini aan en het meer in! Ook dat lucht op en koelt lekker af. Het is overigens warmer dan het beekje bij de camperplaats 😉.

Ik kan er weer tegenaan, op naar de Ebenalp met een tussenstop bij de Altenalp hut. Wanneer je denkt het steilste stuk gehad te hebben...krijg ik nu op een rotsachtig pad, in volle zon, een stijging van maar liefst 42% voor de kiezen...😵alsof je bijna recht tegen een muur aan loopt. Ik heb nog nooit zo lang over slechts een paar kilometer gedaan. Wat was dat pittig! Gelukkig zie ik de Altenalp hut en kan ik hier gelukkig even een drankje drinken en mijn waterflessen bijvullen bij een bron.

Tijdens deze pauze raak ik in gesprek met een mevrouw uit Australië, Jacqueline en een Duitse vrouw, genaamd Gaby. Jacqueline gaat met haar man volgende week nog door naar IJsland. Laat ik daar nou net drie keer al zijn geweest 😊. Ik geef ze nog wat tips en wens ze verder een hele fijne reis.

Ook ik kan er weer tegenaan. Ik loop nu naar de Ebenalp. Onderweg kom ik overigens best veel mensen tegen die de kabelbaan naar boven hebben genomen en terug naar beneden wandelen...misschien was dat een slimmer idee met deze temperaturen 😂.

Anyhow, dit stuk tot de Ebenalp is beter te doen, onderweg zie ik nog een toffe lunchspot met uitzicht op het meer.

Op de Ebenalp heb ik een 360 graden uitzicht. Wat mooi!

Vanaf de Ebenalp loop ik verder via Wildkirgl, een grot en kerkje, naar de oudste berghut van Zwitserland 'Aechser'. Een prachtig oude hut doemt voor me op. Magisch hoe dit in de bergwand is gepositioneerd.

Na een korte stop loop ik via een pad, deels door bos en in schaduw van de bergen, terug naar de camperplaats in Schwende. Ik heb een mooie wandeldag gehad, maar weer zooo warm. Binnen een half uur lig ik weer af te koelen in het beekje. Echt ideaal zo een min of meer 'privé- zwembad' 😉.

Ik doe de rest van de middag niks meer. Begin van de avond loop ik nog even richting de kabelbaan omdat ik daar vanmorgen wifi had, maar helaas 20 minuten voor niks gelopen. De wifi doet het opeens niet meer...

Terug bij de auto is Guim ook net terug van zijn wandeltocht. Je hebt altijd baas boven baas...😂 ik vond dat ik met ruim 15 kilometer al mijn best had gedaan, maar hij heeft er 19,5 kilometer opzitten en is net als ik ook super moe maar voldaan.

Ik wens hem een fijne avond en kruip mijn bed in. Ik val als een blok in slaap 😴. Morgen gaat hij waarschijnlijk ook weer verder, net als ik.
