Reluctant Reader Wednesday: Unretouchable by Sofia Szamosi 

Olive is already used to thinking about the difference between her real life and her life online. The real Olive doesn’t have a lot of romantic prospects. Sometimes she looks okay, sometimes she looks good, and sometimes she looks ugly. But online, Olive can apply filters to her selfies until they look perfect. And one of her closest relationships is with a boy she’s never met in real life. 

Olive wants to spend her time creating art, but she knows that she probably won’t be able to earn enough money to make a living that way. Her mother knows it, too, which is why she arranged for Olive to have a summer internship with a digital imaging specialist. Custom Lighting & Environment Mods for TS3

asked me “What lighting mod do you use?”

So here is the complete list of all the lighting mods I’m currently playing with.

(the pictures above are completely unretouched - no Reshade

UranesiaLightingMod_NOGreenSunrise+DefaultWater+BrighterNight by Nilxis : it’s the main lighitng mod.

Wasset_EnchantedEnvironment_Seperated by Wasset ; it change  the appearance of both the sun and the moon (plus adding them a beautiful “halo”), of the clouds, rainbow and stars, and few other features. The original link on his page is broken, so I just uploaded it HERE

Improved Environmental Shadows by Simsi45 ; I’m using just the DYNAMIC file  (the shadows respond more accurately to the sun's position, letting them stretch further towards the horizon).

Shadow Extender by Lazy Duchess: it  increases the draw distance of shadows and in addition improves the look of map view by making trees and other miscellaneous deco cast shadows, when they previously did not.

Snow but Better by Lyralei: instead of the snow replacement of Wasset, I’m using this one, more detailled. The terrain snow textures are entirely redone; Frosty windows and glass now has more detailed frost on it; it fix that annoying and ugly "Grass" patches.; Icicles have a new texture; Roads got bumpier and more detailed.

Reworked & Impreved EA lights by Simsi45:  it modifies the lite resource for almost all the lamps, making the game a little bit more atmospheric and visually appealing.

Shader Tweaks by Lazy Duchess: this is a set of improvements and fixes to some of the shaders. The color of rooms will now contribute to lighting on Sims.  Outdoor Sims skin lighting was slightly “flattened” to make Sim faces look slightly better.  Bloom has been reduced significantly.

I MEAN DAMN have we not gone over this, like, several times? (In case you're new to this house elf situation we have here, yes. YES WE HAVE.) We have talked about Jungkook's tattoos at GREAT LENGTH. Well, I have, as far back as a while ago, most recently along about here but also here and here and here and several other places. There is zero tag organization in this house, I don't know what else to tell you.

Anywho Jungkook's tats do not, as nearly as I can tell, mean this:

Because, like the nice graphic above says that I just edited, THIS IS FAN-MADE BULLSHIT. I dunno who made it but I suspect the addition of the J upset some folk enough to need to make JeiKei's motivation anything OTHER than Jimin. Because, as we know, he started out with his ink like this:

Yes, that is a pic someone ripped off. I don't like using it. But it's what we have, and it's years later, and it's been out there for a long time, don't shoot. But I have expounded more than once on why it makes NO SENSE to GO BACK LATER to add one letter to a near-complete hand piece. It doesn't. And that A is not, never has been, a V. In Korea you can go literally anywhere and see Samsung logos, Shilla hotel logos, and of course Jimin's dad's cafe' all using that stylized A with no crossbar.

Occam's Razor tells us that the simplest explanation is usually the correct one, and the simplest explanation is the one that's got bitches tearing their hair out. Because THEY KNOW. They KNOW that JM means Jimin, and they HATE IT. (And so what, to quote JeiKei directly. We're gonna talk about fan hate today, too, just... not in this post).

MEANWHILE JUNGKOOK is always showing us his hand, too, have you noticed? Ever since he got the tattoos, but I think more in the last year. It's gotten really pronounced since the PTD dates.

Jeon Jungkook does what Jeon Jungkook wants, and what he wants is for us to pick up what he's been throwing down since, oh, FOREVER but even more recently. Like, it's NOTICEABLE, the way he gets that tattoo in frame at every opportunity. I'll run out of image space before he runs out of ways to show us his touched-up hand.

Yeah. I think the fanmade bullshit has been exposed for what it is. Some of us have known it all along, but even if you're baby Army and you accidentally got stuck watching a lot of comic sans rainbow font youtube garbage (or got up on the wrong side of stan twt), there's no shame in that. The black and white photo transforms illusions into another reality. These photos were taken and show the real image behind SH. He should show this reality more often.

@nope1745 Are you implying that Andy Gotts didn't do a good job because SH looks older in the photo? However, the camera does not lie, and what appears in a photograph is a direct reflection of reality. Years go by!

I listen your podcast episode about photogate 😅 and I think you are right that the press took all this out of proportion, however, I was reading some articles and some comments and I find this:

The agency's news values and principles explain that minor photo editing, including cropping and toning and colour adjustments, are acceptable when necessary for clear and accurate reproduction and should maintain the authentic nature of the photograph.

Changes in density, contrast, colour and saturation levels that substantially alter the original scene are not acceptable. Backgrounds should not be digitally blurred or eliminated by burning down or by aggressive toning. The removal of 'red eye' from photographs is not permissible.

And this comment (he is saying the true about being a press photographer, i checked it 😅)

I am a press photographer, and I suspect you know as well as I do that if you issue images to news agencies, they must be as they were shot and not retouched. This is to protect the public and press industry you work in. If it is news, it must be real. If an agency photographer had done exactly the same thing they would have been sacked. She has every right to photoshop her family pictures just not if she is going to issue them to press as genuine.

So, my take is that as innocent as the photoshop was, the problem is that Catherine apparently crossed the line on the things that are allowed to edit when you distribute it to media agencies. If she would have only posted the pic on social media without giving it to the press, nobody would have cared. Sure, all of us edit pics, sure, many pics delivered to those agencies have photoshop too, but apparently she just did more of what is allowed.

That being said, I find very hypocritical from the media agencies and the press to call her out for a ‘misleading’ picture as if they are too honest in their reporting of worldwide problems, they look pathetic. And it’s even more pathetic that they are now bullying her to show up or release the original picture and writing that if she doesn’t do what they say, it means there are sinister things happening (writing that maybe her marriage is bad; that she is being rebellious because she didn’t want to see the camera of the papz yesterday, how the evil palace throw her under the bus, etc).

Oh for sure. The agencies can absolutely have their rules and regulations and it makes sense that they expect a photo submission to be virtually edit free, otherwise it's not "news."

The thing is - the photo in question was never claimed to have been an unedited, unretouched image - it was a family photo posted to social media that was also included in a dispatch to the media.

Is that on Kate for not following the rules - yes, for sure.

Did she know the rules? I don't know (but ignorance of the rules does not give someone a free pass to break them).

BUT the agencies issuing a "kill notice" with such vague but harsh language ("kill notice," "manipulation from the source") also fanned the flames of this entire situation to a ridiculous level. They could have said something along the lines of "The image in question appears to have had some minor edits that do not align with our zero editing policy."
