sorry, forgot to clarify in my last ask! do you have any rpg recs?
Ah! No worries! And I sure do!
Pillars of Eternity & Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Fantasy RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment (same company behind Fallout: New Vegas, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Neverwinter Nights). You (the PC) are caught in a magical storm that "awakens" you - causes you to recall your past lives, and allows you to commune with other spirits. At the same time, children are being born without souls; you journey and gather allies to discover if the two are related.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous: Fantasy RPG based in the Pathfinder system. A Demon Lord comes to town and you gather allies to try and stop him.
Divinity: Original Sin 2: Fantasy RPG developed by Larian Studios (of recent Baldur's Gate 3 fame) Sourcerers are being rounded up and taken to an island prison to be "cleansed" of their Source, in the efforts to stop the assault of Voidwoken - monstrous creatures who feed on Source. You're one of these Sourcerers.
These are all ones that I've played myself and so can personally advocate for as fun, creative RPGs that have memorable characters, great customization options, and all around a fun RPG experience. None of these really come close to the experience of playing VTMB, either in setting or in playstyle, but from what I've seen VTMB is extremely unique in that regard.
Other ones I've heard good things about (but have not played personally myself) are the aforementioned Neverwinter Nights and Star Wars: KOTOR, along with the Outer Worlds (also by Obsidian Entertainment). Tbh, looking at Obsidian's catalogue in general is a good idea if you're looking for RPGs, because they consistently put out good ones. Owlcat also had another Pathfinder game that came out before Wrath of the Righteous — Pathfinder: Kingmaker
Also, if you're looking for other games in the Vampire: the Masquerade universe (and you don't mind reading your games), Choice of Games has developed four Interactive Fiction games in development with World of Darkness. You can find all of them here (they can be purchased either through Steam or through the Choice of Games website). They all allow you to create and customize your own character, but as the games are Interactive Fiction they're all entirely text-based.
I personally really enjoy Interactive Fiction, and if you find you enjoy the medium as well I recommend browsing through the Choice of Games and Hosted Games official catalogue, as well as their forum where people will post WIPs of games they're working on. Interact-IF on tumblr also is a good place to look for free to play, in-progress IFs.
Hope you found this helpful!

I hope this doesn't come off as anti intellectual or being regressive about art or something, but I've really come to hate the way some people... I don't wanna say "book people" but they often are, criticize certain videogames.
Like it's not about just being snooty about high art vs trashy, low-rent media, that's whatever. Everyone has a different view on that and it largely doesn't matter at all. It's more about how so many of those people dismiss or talk bad games when they don't have a some kind of a single, clear narrative theme or throughline, the kind you would want to give if you were asked what the book you read was "about".
Like, I heard this about Vtmb bloodlines a while back, and like, it's pretty fucking clear what it's "about": it's about being a vampire in Los Angeles in the early 2000's, did you not listen to the goofy ass radio ads? Like, beyond that, what more do you need for it to be about? Is it actually about love, or abuse, or a metaphorical retelling of the gulf war? Being immersed in that role, that kind of character, is what the game is actually about, and the real thing to judge the game on is how well it accomplishes that, and not some thoughtless literary analysis of a non literary medium. The mechanics, the game feel, the atmosphere, all of it tells that story: that's the "text" of the game just as much, if not more then literal text or dialogue present.
And this is not even getting into work made and that are meant to be enjoyed more just for the vibes, or more cerebral made stuff, but that's an entirely different convo really.
Like that's just one specific example, but I feel like I've seen it more and more as of late. And im not trying to say these people are playing the games wrong or whatever, but I do feel like there is a problem of people attempting to criticize games while also being unwilling, or at least "unable" to actually engage with them as videogames as it's own medium. And that's frustrating to see.

no but on the topic of photorealism in games i 100% think that the graphics in like. vtmb, the sims 2 etc etc are more interesting and have aged better than. idfk. rdr2 or god of war 2018 bc like they still look good but as time goes on the character models get more and more uncanny. plus theres stuff to consider about how these companies abuse their employees to achieve photorealism but other ppl have said tons about it so i shant reiterate go check out the jimquisition x

Beth the Brawling and Dominating Ventrue
So I've recently finished my first playthrough of the Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines Mod War Games while streaming for some pals on the discord server https://www.moddb.com/mods/vampire-bloodlines-war-games/downloads/vampire-bloodlines-war-games  it's own story game mod taking place in 1943 Europe during WW2 and I really do like it even with it's flaws, bugs, crashing, broken order of some side quests and text to speech voice acting at times, and oh, my biggest foe, very dark hallways! XD But I really liked how they used normal VTMB assets and homemade assets to bring us into 1943 wartime Europe and I really enjoyed the story to this mod a ton and some of the side quests were really neat too! :3   So I played as a Ventrue who was very good at punching her enemies, Dominate and persuasion and decryption and man was it a fun time, when I wasn't struggling with the bugs! XD I know that in VTM ttrpg you can't dominate someone into killing themselves unless you have Dominate 6 or higher but I've decided that it's a special talent of Beth's that allows her to do that with just five dots in Dominate! :D And well everyone who was at the streams thought I should do a picture of Beth and I had also gotten some lovely new waterproof pens from my lovely girlfriend, @devil-latte I was itching to try out too. I used some ref https://www.dreamstime.com/woman-angry-shouting-pointing-finger-hand-forward-emotiona-asian-business-emotional-portrait-background-image127235767 and I think this painting has turned out rather well.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines - War Games
I’ve played VTM Bloodlines many, many times. But I’ve never played any of the major overhaul mods, partly because they used to be pretty unstable and tricky to install, partly because I wasn’t very confident in them. Not anymore! The Mod Loader makes it easy to play them side by side without conflicts.
For the past couple of years or so, I’ve been keeping an eye on the development of a mod unlike all the others, that doesn’t just change things about the vanilla story, it creates a completely new one from scratch, along with a new world, set in...1943:
VTM Bloodlines - War Games
Yes, that’s right; argikt and team have done something extremely ambitious by attempting to transplant an early 2000s American game into World War II Europe and actually make it believable...but they did it! New hubs, many, many new period-appropriate statics, sound effects and skills (such as encryption instead of hacking) and a sprawling new questline with the attendant side quests, of course.
Is it perfect? No, of course not. Considering new animated models are nigh impossible to add, the NPCs make heavy use of retextures (often in creative new ways) but here and there there will be an anachronistic touch. The odd bug too, but so far only very minor things.
Anyway, these gifs showcase the intro; you go to watch a movie (Murnau’s Nosferatu...ha ha!) and are later ambushed in a dark alley and Embraced.
Why? Well...

4 and 11 from the oc asks for whoever
Sorry for taking so long! As recompense I’m just gonna do all the ocs because why not! I sure hope I’ve remembered the questions right, though!
Josephine Williams
7: Describe your OC’s fashion sense.
Pastel and homely. Stuff you’d wear while reclining in your log cabin out on the lake while not tending to your garden. Greens and blues, and loose clothing and long cardigans. However, equally, she enjoys more masculine outfits though of similar natural colours. She does delve a bit into light punk-lite aesthetics as well (though Grunge might be a better descriptor).
11: What does your OC want for their birthday?
Josephine would honestly prefer money nine times out of ten. The rare exception is when there is something specific she really wants. Even then, the best gifts she’s gotten are gifts that have certainly had some thought put into it (hard-cover copy of the Iliad, or her Greek necklace).
Babette Melwyn
7: Describe your OC’s fashion sense.
Gothic, but simple, with the occasional punk-lite outfit as well. She’s very feminine presenting most the time and loves cute clothes, but occasionally likes to dress up a bit more masculine. No pants and no enclosed shoes. Will, when she wants to show off, go full fantasy evil queen sometimes by dressing up in ornate royal robes that look like she stole them off some space empress (because she is a space empress).
11: What does your OC want for their birthday?
Previously answered on last OC ask!
Henrietta Phillips
7: Describe your OC’s fashion sense.
Old clothes. 90s aesthetic. Grunge. She does get fancier for special occasions, but you’re more likely than not to find her in flannel or old denim jackets.
11: What does your OC want for their birthday?
Stuff for her new house.
Azrael Melwyn
7: Describe your OC’s fashion sense.
Azrael takes after Josephine in this regard, but still prefers darker clothes like Babette.
11: What does your OC want for their birthday?
The next Rick Riordan book!
Yuuki Melwyn
7: Describe your OC’s fashion sense.
Similar to Babette’s, actually.
11: What does your OC want for their birthday?
A sword.
Louise de La Kallig
7: Describe your OC’s fashion sense.
Casual wear aside, the best description for Louise’s fashion sense is “Gothic Sci-Fi Sorcerer” complete with the occasional bits of armour pilfered from Imperial stocks. Later, some regal, noble designs come into play but that’s only at specific formal occasions.
11: What does your OC want for their birthday?
Knitting supplies.
Lyira Arren
7: Describe your OC’s fashion sense.
Practical if dark D&D monk-like outfits. She’s not one for loud, mostly sticking to utilitarian outfits that are breathable and uncumbersome.
11: What does your OC want for their birthday?
Maybe some tools. Ever since losing her arm, she’s been interested in learning a bit more about mechanics and has since gained an interest in working with machines.
Lisa Stroud
7: Describe your OC’s fashion sense.
Early 90s-2000s gothic outfits!
11: What does your OC want for their birthday?
A voucher for two weeks of blissful peace and quiet.

With his own daddy issues I reckon Caine is an Anarch through and through.
Hahaha, maybe. He's a pretty elusive figure: both from a Catholic perspective (we believe Beckett's interpretation, funnily enough) and from a World of Darkness one. Even in the context of VTMB, it's hard to figure out his motives. If he was an true blue Anarch, totally sure of the cause, why wouldn't he reveal himself? Why not give them official backing? He's the kindly Dark Father but also the Tyrant destined to judge his childer: he could force all the LA Kindred to pledge allegiance to Nines, Voerman, and Isaac. He could make them sit in a room and figure out a constitution and rights and laws and etc etc.
But he doesn't.
IDK, while I think he's fonder of the Anarchs than, say, the New Promise Mandarinate, I think he sees beyond sect and looks at who's in charge. I tried to be careful in my wording on my previous post that Caine wants to get LaCroix, not the Camarilla in general. As you know, if the fledgling chooses to back Strauss, there's a note of hope in Caine's voice that things will be different if the Camarilla has a proper leader. This philosophy--that it matters more who the authority is, rather than what structure the authority takes--begs the question of what does Caine think of LA now, with Nines STILL not taking the reins and letting everything devolve into like a, gang turf war.
In like, a meta-sense, I think the writers/game devs made Caine seem to favor the Anarchs and express regret at the Free States ending because they're trying to give the player a hint that those endings are less likely to get them killed. I really like Caine's dialog tree. It's a spectacular use of coding and delicate wordplay so responses make sense even if certain conditions are met/not met.

You know for what kind of game i’ll be ready to kill for right now ? A game where you play a vampire. I know, i alrdeay played Skyrim Dawnguard, Eso & VtmB a loooot. I’m excited for VtmB 2. I’ll be playing Vampyr soon. But hear me out. A vampire as badass as dracula. Or why not as “the man” himself ? Imagine playing as him. Some kind of Origin story. I’ve rewatched Van Helsing and Dracula untold. And my obsession as awoken again. Playing in the 1400′s. As human, slowly building himself as a lord. Building his reputation in war and blood. But then seeing everything he’s worked for so damn hard being destroy or his people being in such grave danger that he had to make a deal with a certain someone. If well written, well act and well made.... I’ll pay 100€ for that king of game. Playing that kind of character, that kind of vampire. The skills, the weapons, the armors... the soundtrack. And with the graphics of today. Like... idk if i’m clear or if i’m lacking sleep again. But damn damn damn. That probably sounded stupid. But i needed to share it. A girl can dream i suppose.

The VTM:B Kindred in order of "youngest” to “oldest”
In case anybody would find it interesting, here’s a list of Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines Kindred characters organized by how long its been since they were Embraced. (Note: The game takes place in 2004 and dates are calculated from that).
Youngest to Oldest
You (obviously) Embraced October 2004
Imalia - 1 year (embraced 2003)
Mitnick - less than 7 years* (see reasoning below)
Ash - 7 years (embraced 1997)
Skelter - less than 35 years (embraced shortly after Vietnam war)
Gary - ~44 years (embraced circa 1960)
Damsel 50+/- years* (see reasoning below)
Nines - 55 years (embraced 1949)
Therese and Jeanette 160+/- years* (see reasoning below)
LaCroix - 189 years  (embraced 1815)
Beckett - ~300 years (embraced circa 1704)
Smiling Jack - 350 years (embraced 1654)
Strauss - 511+ years* (see reasoning below)
The Cab Driver - You know ;)
I couldn’t find anything concrete for the ages of Abrams, the Sheriff, Betram, Velvet, or Andrei.
Pretty much all this info came from the VTMB wiki or the WhiteWolf wiki and lots of them did just have official Embrace dates but some of them I had to puzzle out myself. More info on my reasoning under the cut:
Mitnick: The official “first non-Nosferatu to hack the SchreckNet” was Bobby Weatherbottom (a Ventrue, God, what a name for a Ventrue...) who did it in the late 1990′s. So that means that Mitnick was not the first non-Nosferatu to hack the SchreckNet (he was Embraced Nosferatu *because* he hacked the SchreckNet) so he had to have been embraced after Weatherbottom did it, ie “after the late ‘90s” which I counted here as “after 1997″.
I would guess that Damsel was embraced in the 50′s or shortly thereafter. I’m pretty confident she was at least an adult (human or Kindred) during the Cuban Revolution which she indirectly but passionately references, which I take to mean she was around when it was happening.
Therese and Jeanette’s “last sunrise [being] over two lifetimes ago” would I guess put them at something like 160 years embraced give or take like 30 years in either direction, but that’s sort of a wishy washy number.
Strauss was present at the Convention of Thorns (according to LA by Night, which I’m pretty sure is basically canon since the Storyteller is a WhiteWolf staff member) which took place in 1493, but, given that he probably was there as someone of consequence he was probably a very well-established Kindred at that time so you could possibly add a couple hundred years to his age.
That’s all I got :)

Thoughts on Damsel being in Bloodlines 2? Considering that none of the factions can be described as Anarch (the Unseen are probably closest to underdog but don't look very pro-active, the Pioneers are old rich blood which Damsel would despise and the rest is Camarilla/Ventrue, faction led by bloody Tremere and a criminal/mercenary who only cares about profit) do you think she will be a troublemaker (similarly to Jack, but with more bomb-throwing methods rather than cunning manipulation).
The stream said she was here “to spread Anarch propaganda”.
I wish they had updated her outfit a bit.
The trailer is NOT flattering she looks so god damn wrong. But the full shot was better.
The chalk white skin worked in an alpha 2004 rushed af engine. In 2020 we need MUCH better.
Her opening line is WAY too long. I would have appreciated it in Wolfenstein or in Just Cause, but here, nope. In Vtmb she just gives a snark “Sabbat chase you in here Cammie?”. And THEN if you prompt her she goes into longer stuff. As a warning her opening line is ridiculous. “Move ans I’ll blow your brains out” would be enough. Then the whole napalm war crime stuff could be later in the whole “what’s in your weapon?” Discussion or something. It’s childish. Not mature.
This trailer seemed super “hey hey look your fave is here” pandering nostalgia bait. It rubs me the wrong way.
The Russian on the tee is bad also, I’ve been told, so they’ve paid more attention to ARG hype stuff than actual GAME contents.
Subs were tiny. I hope we’ll be able to adapt font type and font size.
I like Damsel. I really like her as a character. Vtmb was tongue in cheek and punching up quite a lot, but also nuanced. Damsel herself questions some aspects of her beliefs and reviews her judgment of the PC, apologizing and shit, but keeping it real. But 2020 damsel... she seems she’ll be used as a mockery of the anarco-communist mouvements. A parody of herself instead of actually herself. I’m worried and I don’t like this at all. I really want VtmB2 to be good but they’re disappointing me at every turn.
Buuuuut at least she’s not V5 Damsel !!

The Sabbat as presented in VTMB
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines gives the Sabbat a pretty bad reputation. Not that Jack’s warning about the Sabbat is inaccurate for some of its members, but it doesn’t get the whole picture. But players should keep three things in mind:
The Sabbat in LA is at war.
The Camarilla has 3x the membership as the Sabbat.
The leader of the Sabbat’s efforts is a singular Pack led by a Tzimisce, likely on the Path of Metamorphosis.
The Sabbat, outnumbered, and at War
Like any culture, the Sabbat’s culture is obscured and even dangerous to explore during times of conflict. Beyond that, their characterization changes because of the conflict.
The Sabbat can be just as picky as the Camarilla about who they let into their club. Lasombra and Ventrue have very similar aristocratic tendencies, even if the former is more religious in nature than the latter. Tzimisce and Tremere seek out occult lore, but for wildly different reasons. Potential embraces have to be a certain kind of mortal to attract the attention of these clans. But in LA, they don’t have that luxury.
LA has been an Anarch stronghold for decades and now the Camarilla is in town. The anarch’s numbers are debatable, but the Camarilla heavily outnumbered the Sabbat. So to even the odds, they mass embrace.
Grab a van full of disadvantaged mortals, tell them they’re being oppressed by a Great Vampire Conspiracy called the Camarilla, drain them dry, put a Gangrel or Brujah’s blood in their mouth, and then feed em a few drops of Vitae over the following nights. Wham, Bam, you’ve got a tough, loyal foot soldier you can throw at the Camarilla to weaken their defenses. These are the mooks you tear through at the warehouse and at the Hallowbrook hotel.
But why does the Sabbat use such heartless methods? It comes back to Andrei. Older Sabbat, but especially the Tzimisce, follow rigid codes of conduct called Paths of Enlightenment. While never explained in game, the greater lore of Vampire the Masquerade has devoted a number of books to these codes. Paths of Enlightenment replace Humanity as the guiding principle of the vampire. Andrei likely follows the Path of Metamorphsis which is the Tzimisce’s own creation.
Now in VTMB, immoral (killing, acts the lead to the death of others, etc) acts cause your humanity to drop. In Vampire the Masquerade up to the 20th anniversary edition, there is a specific hierarchy of sins. The bottom 3, before you enter Wassail, are:
3. Planned violation (Murder, Savored exsangionation
2. Casual violation (thoughtless killing, feeding beyond satiation)
1. Utterly heinous acts
Real pleasant right? Vampires around this area deserve the epithet Murderhobos. Well, Andrei at one point reached this level and then transitioned over to the other side. Path of Metamophosis’ lowest three sins are:
3. Failing to experiment, even at risk to yourself
2. Neglecting to alter ones own body
1. Exhibiting compassion for another.
These three restrictions alone explain Andrei’s behavior. He MUST experiment or he will degenerate towards the Beast. He MUST change his appearance or he’ll be pulled to Wassail. And he can never act on feelings of compassion or he could turn to the Beast.
So we have the Sabbat in a martial stance, heavily outnumbered by their foes, lead by one of the most inhumane and arcane paths in existence. Hardly standard circumstances and barely a representation of the Sabbat as a whole.

Tell us more about your fictional character crushes
oh boy alrighty
under the cut because i am infinitely self-conscious
first one i remember was starfire, which burns on to this day. i liked her visual design, i really thought her speech patterns were endearing, i liked her voice acting. probably strongly contributed to my crush on Petra from fire emblem three houses. speaking of three houses where do i even freaking start...
F!Byleth, Edelgard, Petra, Dorothea, Mercedes, Ingrid, Lysithia, Marianne, Hilda, Manuela, Catherine, Sothis (platonic crush ig), plus most of the lads when Man Crush Monday rolls back around. almost Everyone in that game is so well-written and attractively designed.
a couple lot of big ones from azur lane, but i won’t tell you which ones, because we’d be here even longer than we already will be. if you’ve been paying attention, you already know which ones lol, but i love all the ironblood ladies and most of the royal ones too (give me more ironblood tomboy DDs!)
every new anime season brings a new wave of waifus, obvs. recents ones are chika from kaguya-sama: love is war, guild girl from goblin slayer, maki from fire force... older ones that burn on include Yoko from gurren lagann (confident flirty girl with big gun is my type), all the leading ladies from kill la kill for obvious and varied reasons, ikumi and megumi and alice from food wars!, winry from fullmetal alchemist... so many that i have trouble remembering even most of them.
and now i scroll thru my steam library to remind me and Oh Boy Even More! Evie from AC: Syndicate, every love interest from ACE Academy, Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite, all of them in DDLC, the playable ladies and the red prince from divinity original sin 2, cait and curie from fallout 4, hecking all of them from huniepop tho especially the alien, rico’s hookshot from just cause 3, plenty in the Mass Effect saga but especially Tali and Garrus, Quiet from MGSV, 2B and the operators from Nier Automata, the shotgun in resident evil 7, ms fortune and cerebella and valentine from skullgirls but i love all of them, bastilla and mission from kotor, the handmaiden and visas and mira from kotor 2, a couple cautious crushes on VtMB leading ladies, Who Even Knows how many from the Witcher franchise....
A Lot. i have a lot.
