Menologium of Basil II (958-1025) / Menologium Basilii II, 10th century, illumination of the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus.
Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Manuscript - Vat.gr.1613 https://shorturl.at/MPST3
«As the story goes, during the rule of the Roman emperor Decius, seven young men of Ephesus were accused of being Christians. Being that a time of harsh persecution towards Christianity, they were asked to recant their faith upon pain of their life; the seven, however, decided to retire to a mountain cave where they fell asleep while praying. When they were found out, the cave was sealed and the young men trapped forever. After 200 (or 300) years, however, the sealed mouth of the cave was reopened by the landowner; to his surprise, the seven men were still there, still sleeping. As they woke up from their long slumber, they were astounded to find that so many years had passed, since they thought they had slept but one day; what surprised them the most, however, was that Christianity was now not only accepted - but it was the very official religion of the Empire. The local bishop was called to investigate and, being told their story, acknowledge the miracle. The Seven Sleepers finally died on the very same day of their awakening, once again praising God. this is me being very brave and not correcting inaccuracies about the vatican library after seeing a post that mentions it, even though working with vatican manuscript collections and their digital surrogates is my literal job
(nb I don't work for the church in any sort of direct fashion, we're a medieval and early modern studies research center, please do not drag me through the streets, at least for that reason)

Which Ancient Greek philosopher would make the best stand up comedian?
Hmm, that's a tough one. Probably one of the skeptics? I feel like stand-up comedians are always making some sort of skeptical commentary on society, and one of the earlier followers of Pyrrho, Timon of Phlius, seems to have written some sort of satirical poetry that very well may have been intended to be read before an audience. Or maybe Diogenes or one of the later Cynics could do some avant-garde performance art in a similar manner of challenging societal values, some of the later Cynics apparently adopted a style called Spoudaiogeloion from Old Comedy which was meant to convey serious social criticism through humor.
Alternatively the copout answer here is that some Ancient Greek philosophers were also Comic poets, which is probably the closest thing to stand-up comedy. But none of their works survive in enough fragments to really assess whether or not they were all that funny, Epicharmus of Kos is probably the best preserved of these and I don't think there's any more than a few consecutive lines of his work, not really enough to provide context.
Or perhaps it makes more sense to turn it around an consider the Ancient Greek Comic poets themselves as philosophers. In that case it's probably almost certainly Menander, the dominant poet of Early Hellenistic era "New" Comedy, whose plays touched on more everyday themes than Aristophanes or the poets of "Old" Comedy, and were quoted from extensively by later authors for their philosophical commentary on society. The manuscripts of Menander's plays that were known to the Byzantines, uh, "disappeared" at some point during the late middle ages or maybe the renaissance, but between the excerpts and a large amount of papyri fragments (they were extremely popular in the ancient world!), classicists have been able to piece together one complete play, The Grouch, and large portions of about six or seven others. So if we can consider Menander a philosopher I think he's certainly got the best case for being a stand-up comedian.

Do you know of any strange or unusual gifts that presidents have given to foreign personnel and leaders? I remember when President Obama gifted Queen Elizabeth an iPod and was wondering if other presidents had given stranger gifts.
This will always be my favorite story about Presidential gift exchanges: the whirlwind Christmas Eve visit to the Vatican when Pope Paul VI gave President Lyndon B. Johnson a gorgeous oil painting of a Nativity scene from the 15th Century and LBJ gave the Pope a bronze bust of himself -- an item which any of you can still buy today at the LBJ Library.

A krónika feltételezhetően kétszáz eredeti példányából mindössze tíz maradt fenn, amelyet Szentpétervártól Princetonig a világ híres könyvtáraiban őriznek. A magyar nemzeti könyvtár példánya teljes, eddig kétszer készült hasonmás kiadás róla: 1900-ban és 1973-ban. Az évfordulóra a könyvtár újra megjelentette a művet Schöck Gyula jeles magyar könyvművész gondozásában.
A Ferenc pápa számára készült különleges példány kézi kötéssel, aranyozott rézveretekkel és cabochon (gömbölyített előlapú) krizopráz kövekkel díszített, aranyozott fehér bőrkötéses díszmásolat, amelyhez latin, magyar és angol nyelvű kísérőkötet társul.

I know i have Reasons and stuff Wrong With Me but I do genuinely want to see the fall of the Vatican in my life time more than anything. I want the library opened and I want the leadership dragged through the streets and the wealth and artifacts redistributed. I want violence and I want the list of names of every bailed out abusive community leader made public :)
Before anyone goes off on this I am ex-catholic with 12+ years of in depth catholic education who was abused within the catholic church and diocesan school system. Do not bitch at me.

Creepy Portraits of Vatican Librarians sounds like the debut litfic novel of someone who got a book deal after doing numbers for being mean on twitter but it's also something I ran into while checking some references at work and felt I needed to share with all of you. You're welcome.
