I'm drenched in sweat when I wake up, need to hang up my sheets
Pour up a beer and walk out with no shoes on my feet
And I don't need nobody tell me how to dress
I look in the mirror saying, "Man, you're the best"
And I'm sorry, honey, but I gotta confess
Don't give a fuck about you, I could really care less
I ain't your average normal dude
It sure ain't glamorous, but I keep things loose
I ain't your average punk rock loser
Yeah, I'm a savage, I'm really cool
Love this song by Viagra Boys. Gives me big Shitkid/Superstar Cop/Pre-Martinaise-Harry vibes. He ain't your average disco loser.
The only piece of vaguely "cottagecore" media that I've felt any affinity for is probably To the Country by Viagra Boys. The first reason is probably because it's just a very beautiful piece of music in my opinion, but also because it feels like a sort of musical acknowledgement of the fact that being "out on the country" wouldn't solve their problems. Most of the Viagra Boys' music is about what could generally be called a scumbag lifestyle; doing drugs, partying, and being general asshole while doing so. Here, the singer confesses in lyrics that he does, to some extent, want to slow down and go somewhere quieter, but music itself is intensely mournful and almost menacing. It's saying, implicitly, that the country couldn't solve their problems even if it made their lives better. It's a very interesting song.
