honest to god woke up and chose violence because even tho I adore rwrb (on a bisexual lvl) I just can’t stand that people take it for a fact that George was a stupid himbo and just go with it. Cue nick playing both George and Henry. There is nuance and yes, you might even call him a himbo an idiot or whatever you might like [ really, I’m hating on this man even though I find him immensely interesting as a historical figure because he was objectively speaking a shitty person] tho please at least read his Wikipedia it’s not that long 🧍
and yes, I do understand the notion of memes, but for some people it’s not really a meme anymore
(idk I’m just rambling at this point, you might have noticed that I quite enjoy researching and academia etc)

Mary & George - First Look (2023)
Nicholas Galitzine - Julianne Moore - Tom Victor - Frances Coke - Sean Gilder - Jacob McCarthy - Alice Grant - Niamh Algar
Credit: Sky
Mary & George is inspired by the unbelievable true story of Mary Villiers, who moulded her beautiful and charismatic son, George, to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England and become his all-powerful lover. Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors. And with England’s place on the world stage under threat from a Spanish invasion and rioters taking to the streets to denounce the King, the stakes could not have been higher.
Prepared to stop at nothing and armed with her ruthless political steel, Mary married her way up the ranks, bribed politicians, colluded with criminals and clawed her way into the heart of the Establishment, making it her own.
Mary & George is a dangerously daring historical psychodrama about an outrageous mother and son who schemed, seduced, and killed to conquer the court of England and the bed of King James.

Nicola Walker's appearing in another historical (for the first time in what seems like ages!)
Everything We Know About Mary & George
BY EMILY BURACK PUBLISHED: NOV 16, 2023
Tumblr media
Mary & George, a new period drama which will chronicle the affair between King James I and George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham, promises to be one of the most highly anticipated shows of 2024.
In fact, the romance between the two is referenced in Casey McQuiston's Red, White, & Royal Blue novel, wherein the fictional Prince Henry writes, "I feel that James I, who fell madly in love with a very fit and exceptionally dim knight at a tilting match and immediately made him a gentleman of the bedchamber (a real title), would take mercy upon my particular plight." In a fun turn of events, actor Nicholas Galitzine stars as both Henry in Red, White, and Royal Blue and as the "very fit knight," a.k.a. George, Duke of Buckingham.
Here's everything we know about Mary & George so far:
It's based on a true story.
Mary & George is adapted from The King's Assassin by Benjamin Woolley, a nonfiction book that details "the conspiracy to kill King James I by his handsome lover, the Duke of Buckingham."
Per Sky Atlantic, "Mary & George is inspired by the unbelievable true story of Mary Villiers, who moulded her beautiful and charismatic son, George, to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England and become his all-powerful lover. Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors. And with England’s place on the world stage under threat from a Spanish invasion and rioters taking to the streets to denounce the King, the stakes could not have been higher."

Lost London: Walking the Covent Garden Drainage Ditches
Part 3: The St Martin’s Parish Sewer
The last section of the walk along the drainage ditches of Covent Garden can begin with completing the fourth side of the Cock and Pye Ditch, by walking along the western end Shelton Street until the junction with Neal Street, then doubling back to Upper St Martin’s Lane. With this done, the walk then continues along St Martin’s Lane, following a noticeable downhill gradient as the route starts back towards the Thames.
Tumblr media
With the sewer buried beneath the roads and buildings, and its course not well recorded, other sights make for more interest along this section. Off to the west of St Martins Lane is Cecil Court, a street of booksellers, many offering rare or unusual books; the oldest amongst these shops is Watkins Books, specialising in occult texts.
Tumblr media
Further along St Martins Lane, this time to the east, is Brydges Place, possible the narrowest alley in London – it would definitely be difficult for two people to pass at its tightest point.
Tumblr media
The route then turns down William IV Street, then Adelaide Street, passing the sculpture A Conversation With Oscar Wilde (checking to see if his cigarette has been stolen again), before arriving at the Strand. It is reckoned that the sewer (or ditch as it may have been then) crossed the Strand somewhere near where Charing Cross station stands today, though no records survive saying exactly where.
Tumblr media
The walk continues downhill, quickly taking in the top end of Villiers Street, then York Place (formerly Of Alley, a story featured in a past post), then Buckingham Street. This terminates at York Watergate, marking where the banks of the Thames used to be, and where the St Martin’s parish sewer would have emptied into the river. With the construction of the Victoria Embankment, the parish sewer was joined to the interceptor sewer, so much like the Bloomsbury Ditch, there is no visible outfall.
Tumblr media
My guidebook suggested ending the walk at the nearby Cleopatra’s Needle – the ancient Egyptian obelisk that actually bears the cartouches of Thutmose III and Ramses II. Some say that the exact geographical centre of London is a bench just besides the obelisk – certainly a quieter (and perhaps more atmospheric) location than the main rival for the title just beside Trafalgar Square…

Do the Yun-Farrons live in Vale City or near Beacon Harbour?
It's important here to note that for safety reasons, all of the major cities are composed of not only the major city itself but satellite settlements (e.g., large towns, villages, etc) around it. These satellite settlements are all linked by walls and other fortifications to create a 'protected zone' where farms and other important facilities can also be located. Transport to and from the major city and the satellite settlements is generally extremely good, allowing easy travel to and from the major city.
The purpose of the protected zone is to ensure that cities and other settlements have reliable access to food and other resources. There are cases where cities and other settlements have been cut off from farms and other facilities and have literally been starved out by the Grimm. The protected zone makes that unlikely. The protected zone also creates a perimeter defence for the city since any Grimm will first have to break through the protected zone before reaching the major city. Past experience has shown that making the major city the first and last line of defence is a bad idea since it leaves little time for evacuation. If absolutely necessary, the existence of the protected zone means that all citizens (including those in the protected zone) can be evacuated to safety if necessary.
The Yun-Farrons, Villiers, and Dia-Farrons live in one of the larger satellite settlements associated with Vale City. This explains the mostly suburban lifestyle they lead that has elements of a rural lifestyle as well. Technically, housing is cheaper in these settlements since it's not in the big city and is closer to the Grimm. However, certain settlements are very expensive to buy homes in because powerful hunters live there. Again, past experience has shown that these hunters will defend their homes to the death rather than retreat, which is why prices in the Yun-Farron neighbourhood increased dramatically after their arrival. You are actually safer living down the street from Lightning and the gang than you are living in the centre of Vale City itself.
The particular settlement that the Yun-Farrons live in is south-east of Vale City itself, making for a pretty easy commute although everyone has ways of getting there faster using their powers or advanced technology (Vanille goes to work in her own aircraft).

Antonio Morabito, la musica classica italiana in concerto
Tumblr media
... Continua a leggere su

Moxon Street developer was behind £26m Kilburn 'nightmare'
Barnet Council has granted planning permission for a block of 92 flats to a developer whose flagship project in Kilburn ended up £26 million in debt.
On January 11, the council’s planning committee convened to deliberate over the future of Intec House, in Moxon Street, Chipping Barnet.
Planning officers had written a report recommending the panel grant consent to plans to replace the existing office block with a mixed-use development.
The proposal was submitted by a company, incorporated in December 2021, called Moxon One Limited.

The proposal was submitted by a company, incorporated in December 2021, called Moxon One Limited.

Paul Godfrey borrowed £19 million from OakNorth Bank and £13 million from other sources to fund the scheme. The development was supposed to make £10 million in profit.
But in December 2020, OakNorth called in administrators after a series of delays.
Buyers who put down deposits in 2018 and were due to move in by spring 2019 were still waiting for their move-in dates.
Those who had moved in said it was a "nightmare" and they were living "on a building site".
The administrators found the development unfinished and the bank account of 254 Kilburn LLP – the venture set up to deliver the project – empty.
The latest administrator’s report, published on January 10, said OakNorth was owed £25.5 million, HMRC was owed more than £500,000 and other creditors claimed they were owed over £760,000.
The administrators eventually completed the building, but do not believe they will be able to raise sufficient funds to repay even the primary creditor – OakNorth – in full.
Nobody else is expected to be paid anything at all.
Tumblr media
Explanation
Mr Godfrey said in 2021 that he was “very sorry” for the Park Place delays, which had “all been out of my hands”.
He said the project was affected by problems associated with Brexit and Covid.
He disagreed with OakNorth’s decision to call in the administrators.
He also contested the administrators’ sums.
“We believe that in principle it would be viable to complete the scheme in a manner which maximises the body of the creditors’ interests, realising sufficient funds to settle them, as was our intention,” he told the Ham&High newspaper.
Administrators later wrote a report saying the directors of the Park Place development had refused to co-operate with their investigation and failed to turn over completed accounts.
Tumblr media
Moxon Street
At 49 Moxon Street, Mr Godfrey wants to build a seven-storey development, including 92 flats and 730sq m of employment space.
Barnet Council received dozens of objections, including one from Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers.
Concerns included the size of the building, its impact on local views and what impact it might have on existing parking problems.
But some residents are also concerned about the failure of the Kilburn scheme.
“With a track record of not repaying lenders, how is he going to raise the funding and reach completion for such an ambitious project?” one said to this newspaper.
“A more sensible approach would have been for Mr Godfrey to propose a more achievable development, more in keeping with the three to four-storey blocks in the area, which allowed for adequate parking for the residents therein.”
What next?
Labour councillor Tim Roberts, one of the councillors who voted to approve the application, stressed that the planning committee could not make decisions based on applicants or their backgrounds.
“We look at the planning reasons for acceptance and rejection,” he said. “We get the necessary information to make a planning decision.
“The financing is another matter. It’s not the planning committee being irresponsible. We are fully responsible.”
But he added: “In light of what you’ve told me, it may be necessary for planning officers to take further steps to check on the background of an applicant.
“I might well raise it now with planning officers.”
Mr Godfrey was approached for comment last week via his agent for the planning application, Iceni Projects, and directly.
To date, no reply has been received.
