Just a little thing I wrote that's been stuck on my mind, first BMFM fic. Throttle/Charley centric with sprinkles of Carbine and our lovable Modo and Vinnie.
Enjoy!
Her face appeared in the screen and Throttle looked visibly glad she didn't seem to have a new scar or injury. "Hey, Carbine."
The general gave him a once over, crossing her arms. "Hey, Throttle. So, how's the atmosphere back on Earth? I want to hear a full report."
Despite the way his tongue moved to give a short report on Limburger's continuously failing plans and their efforts to save Mars, Throttle can't help but clench his fist at the building emptiness in his heart.
He cared for Carbine, she was - had been - his first love, she was there for him during the war, when he lost his eyesight. She had been the light in his life once his world had gone dark.
She was the general Mars needed to rebuild itself and save their mice brothers and sisters, there was no doubt in his mind no other was better suited for the job than Carbine.
But the ever present emptiness in his heart during their interactions kept poking at his consciousness, the overwhelming guilt he felt for his feelings not being like they once were.
For his heart not being like it once was.
Throttle would have been a fool to himself if he continued this charade and tried convincing himself that he loved Carbine the way he used to.
His love was reserved for someone else, or could be reserved for someone else.
Throttle resisted the urge to glance back at the garage, where he heard Charley putting away the last of her tools after fixing up a customer's wreck of a car. Throttle and his bros had teased not even she would be able to repair that junk yard, but she had, and the ride looked good as new.
Throttle lifted his specs up, a sign for Carbine to pay close attention to what Throttle had to say next.
With a deep breath, Throttle spoke. "Listen babe, there's something I wanted to say for a while now."
A fleeting look of realization crossed Carbine's face, but it was gone as quickly as it had come. As if she knew what words he was about to utter. "What is it, Throttle?"
Charley kept herself busy with putting away her tools and any loose screws and bolts.
The last time she didn't clean up behind herself carefully, Vinnie had hurt his foot on a nail. That had been fun tending to, with Vinnie complaining how she wounded him oh so deeply.
Shifting her attention from her tool kit to the hallway leading up to the tech room, Charley bit her bottom lip.
Throttle was still talking to Carbine for an unusually long time. Normally they would talk for not even a full minute before the general excused herself to tend to her duties.
But not now it seemed.
"Any idea what those two are talking about?" Charley's head whipped around at the sound of Vinnie's voice, who leaned against the doorframe of the garage. Modo stood quietly beside him, raising an eyebrow in the general direction Throttle was in.
Charley shook her head. "It's rude to pry, you guys."
Modo crossed his arms. "Sorry, we're just worried about our bro, Charlie ma'am." his ears twitched atop his head anxiously. "Last time they talked this long, they went on a 'break'."
Vinnie chuckled. "You mean the time we crash landed here?"
Modo glared at him for the insensitive remark. "Hey." he nudged him none too gently with his robotic elbow.
"Aaouch!" Vinnie rubbed the aching spot, rolling his eyes. "Oh come on, what gives? I bet Throttle's already tired of Carbine playing hot dog with him!"
Charley smiled wrily, stashing away a wayward pipe. "You mean 'hot potato', Vinnie."
Vincent scoffed and held his nose high in the air. "No, I meant hot dog...hot dogs are hot too."
Both Charley and Modo shared a glance and despite Modo's antennas not being connected to Charley for touch telepathy, she instantly knew they shared the same thought: 'oh mama.'
"Tsk, anyway, I don't see why we all have to be so gloomy. Not like anyone will miss Miss All Business No Heart." Vinnie inspected his paws, the passive aggressiveness rolling off him in waves. He really never had a soft spot for Carbine.
As if on cue, Throttle's voice filled the room. "Not like anyone will miss who, Vincent?"
A shiver raced down Charley's spine, Modo regarded his brother with caution and Vinnie's ears laid flat on his head at the mention of his full name. "O-Oh hi bro! Uh, gee, I meant miss cheese of course! Nobody here will miss a stinking block of cheese!" He patted his pants as if looking for something. "Which reminds me, I think I forgot my root beer on the stove. Ride free, citizens!"
With speed matching his bike, Vinnie fled the scene, leaving Modo to shoot an apologetic glance Throttle's way.
Despite his field specs blocking the view of Throttle's eyes, when he nodded his head slowly and offered the smallest of smiles, Modo knew Vinnie was forgiven quickly.
He was the youngest of them after all, none of them could stay mad for too long at the crazy mouse, even if he did regularly get on all of their nerves.
Sensing his presence was one mouse too many in the room, Modo followed after Vinnie to knock some sense into the mouse after his insensitive, if truthful, stunt.
Now alone with a silent Throttle, Charley was unsure how to act. She sensed the sadness rolling off Throttle in waves, but wasn't sure if it was her place to ask or act like she didn't notice anything.
What was protocol here? They were friends, she loved her biker mice, but Charley knew matters of the heart could be especially hurtful, especially wounds so fresh. Besides, Throttle had never really opened up emotionally about his relationship with Carbine to begin with.
All she knew was what Modo and Vinnie shared with her, while not stomping too badly on Throttle's privacy.
Thankfully, Throttle seemed to sense her indecision. "Heh, Vinnie still thinks just because I'm blind I'm deaf too."
The big mouse slowly walked towards his bike, near Charley's work bench and covered by a blanket, as if the motorcycle could feel cold at night in Charley's garage, and leaned back against it, arms crossed leisurely.
His ire from earlier seemed to calm, but Charley wasn't sure if it was the calm before the storm.
Charley muttered. "Sorry, he's....Vinnie."
Throttle chuckled. "Yeah, he is." he hung his head briefly, as if deeply lost in thought. "Speaking of, he said there was root beer. Anymore left for me?"
As if Charley had predicted this outcome, she fetched the two bottles from her work bench and walked over to the mouse, handing Throttle one bottle while keeping the other for herself. Throttle nodded his thanks to her, uncapped it and downed a large mouthful.
Charley nursed her drink slower, trying to discern whether to be too worried over him or try to relax.
As if receiving her thoughts through his antenna, Throttle turned his head towards her. "Something on your mind, Charley-girl?"
Charley leaned back against her work bench, a few steps away from Throttle. "Are those antennas on top of your head picking up my brain waves by any chance?"
A heartier laugh erupted from his throat and Charley allowed herself a small smile at her successful attempt to make him laugh. "Nah, biker's honor."
Charley's smile soon fell and her fingers picked at her drink, the thought knocking at the forefront of her mind not willing to be silenced. "Throttle..." the mouse looked at her, "Are you okay?"
Her eyes stayed on his specs, despite the overwhelming urge to look away or take back her question. Obviously he wasn't okay at all. Great going, Charlene.
Throttle briefly glanced off to the side, as if considering her question carefully before he whispered. "No. Not really...but I will be."
Growing braver, Charley scooted closer, following the path of her work bench. "Is there anything I can do to help?"
Throttle inhaled deeply, taking a sip from his root beer. "Carbine and I....we decided to end it," taking another swig from his drink, Throttle continued. "I suggested it, but she didn't seem too opposed to the idea."
Charley shook her head and walked over to Throttle, clasping a hand over his shoulder. "I don't think that's the case Throttle, I think it was as hard for Carbine as it is for you now. I think she just...saw how much it's hurting you not to be with her and made the least painful decision for you both."
The tan mouse chuckled lowly, shaking his head. "You got it wrong, Charley-girl. Carbine and I saw it a long time coming. Besides, she's got more important stuff to do, handling Mars and all."
A surge of protective anger welled up inside the mechanic and she slammed her hand on her worn work bench. "You're important too!"
Throttle eyes widened, enough for the flash of white to go over the rim of his field specs. He could count on one hand how often Charley truly got angry over something, the two times they ever saw her was her concern over their safety and Limburger almost succeeding at killing them that one time.
Catching herself but still standing her ground, Charley clenched her hand into a fist. "I mean it, Throttle. Carbine may be very busy keeping Mars together and trying to keep your kind alive, but you should matter too! You do matter! Modo, Vinnie and I were worried how sad you looked every time you guys talked. After how much you guys sacrificed..."
Charley caressed the side of Throttle's face, her fingers gingerly touching his field specs.
Throttle swallowed, his hand moved up to cover her own and hold it there. "...You don't have to get so fired up for me, Charley-girl." before she could pull her hand away in embarrassment, Throttle's thumb rubbed over Charley's knuckles. "But I appreciate it, thank you."
Throttle's next actions stunned Charley to silence, still holding her hand, Throttle moved his face and kissed the inside of her palm, almost as if in gratitude.
Why did the garage air suddenly feel so hot?
A chuckle interrupted her line of thoughts and suddenly, Throttle was very close and had a lock of her hair wrapped around his finger. "Good to know I'm not the only one speechless here."
Charley felt heat fill her entire face and she gripped her root beer tightly in her hand. "I-"
"HEY, WHO TOOK MY MOOT BEAR?!"
Vinnie's loud voice accompanied by a loud crash ripped both of them out of their little bubble. He looked dazed, his bandana hanging off one of his ears, his body swaying from side to side.
Modo quickly grabbed the intoxicated mouse by his bandolier and tried dragging him back out of the garage. "Sorry Charley-ma'am, Throttle. He had a bit too much to drink!" His attention turned towards Vinnie. "I told you not to come in here!"
Vinnie laughed his signature laugh. "Hey, Throttle, are you touching my lady Charley-lady?"
Throttle walked over to his brother and handed him his own root beer. "Here Vinnie, maybe this bottle will set your vision straight again."
Vinnie looked dumbfounded at the root beer in his hand, before something in his brain clicked....or didn't. "AHA! Modo, you piece of rats ass! You stole my moot bear!"
Modo's eye began to glow in warning. "What did you say you blabber mouth?"
Modo heaved the drunk mouse off his feet and Vinnie laughed maniacally as they took their brawl back into the other room, the door conveniently shutting behind the loud duo.
Now alone again, Charley felt the heat ease off her face thanks to the rambunctious interruption, but when Throttle turned to look at her, she felt her heart miss a beat or two.
Ugh, how pathetic. Control yourself, Davidson!
"I...I'm glad you're feeling better Throttle, even though it wasn't easy."
Throttle smiled; a real genuine smile. "Nothing ever is, but it's all worth it in the end, Charley-girl." feeling flustered under his heavy gaze, Charley moved around Throttle to grab her root beer again.
"Oh, uh, want to have mine? I still have to- there's something I wanted to check before I close up for tonight. Good night, Throttle!" quickly handing him her root beer, trying to ignore the spark that zapped her fingers when their hands touched, Charley Davidson raced out of her own garage faster than Lady could drive Vinnie up to the hot dog stand.
With his hand and face still feeling warm, Throttle tipped the bottle back into his mouth.
For some reason, the bottle Charley drank out of tasted so much sweeter than his own root beer.
"Good night, Charley..." his heart speeding up, Throttle leaned back against his bike, trying to ignore the way he couldn't quite wipe the smile off his face.
Not even when Modo and Vinnie crashed through the wall into him in their brawl.
Thanks for reading! Hope it wasn't too bad.

Do you have any romantic headcanons Charlie and Vinnie from BMFM. These two and Goliath x Elisa were among the non- anime couples I shipped as a kid. Although I loved the tragic Harley and Vinnie as well.
How dare you remind me of my childhood! Lil’ Pinks was ride-or-die for Goliath and Elisa! Charley and Vinnie (and Harley, ugh my heart-) are such a good ship!
-No one would expect Vinnie to be tied to anyone. He tends to be all over the place, looking for adrenaline or the next exciting activity. The bros are his closest bonds because they can keep up with excitement. Charley is pure excitement. She’s so smart she’s borderline crazy, and she has no issue giving a wallop to those askin’ for it and her eyes when she has a new project-! He gets maybe half the words she’s saying only because his brain is too mushy to pick up on what precisely she’s saying. And she rides motorcycles? Charley’s a rockin’ babe!
-He fell for her at first punch. Everything after that was gravy.
-For all his excitement, Vinnie’s surprisingly insightful about Charley. His people-skills are a little off-point but when it’s people he cares about, he learns their signals. A scrunched up nose, while cute, means Charley’s a stone’s throw away from cursing up a storm to an engine. A huff means he is getting away with his mistake because of his charming(adorable) looks. He’ll be goofing off but if he hears an ‘ow’ out of her, she’s getting scooped and checked over for the slightest bump.
-For Charley’s part, Vinnie is a surprise. She’s dated a lot of guys. Actors. Hackers. A lot of exciting but vain guys who fizzled out at the consistency of a relationship. The fact a giant bi-pedal adrenaline junkie of a mouse managed to win her over is as much a mystery to her as it is to the bros. But he makes her smile. He manages to make the worst situation feel beatable, bounces back no matter what is thrown at him and is always looking to push himself forward. He makes her happy. And that’s more than she’s ever needed.
-Vinnie isn’t the only one who can pick up a signal. Charley sees his beat-up journal with demolition ideas, the relief rolling through his shoulders at another mission complete. Him being so obvious helps. He can’t hide how much she makes him melt, or his smile at getting her to cackle over a god-awful pun. It’s been a while since anyone has made her feel that… loved.
-Dry wit meets cheesy humor. Banter is their love-language. Yea they might be cuddled up watching another spy movie but that doesn’t mean they can’t quip at each other - it’s part of the experience!
-Yes, the bros are sick of them too, but their joy for them finding some love keeps Throttle and Modo quiet.
-Charley absolutely spoils Vinnie. Of course all the motorcycles get upgrades, but the extra fun explosive launcher is Vinnie’s. That part he’s been scouring after for weeks is somehow in her shop days after he mentioned it to her. Vinnie is well aware he’s a lucky mouse.
-It is physically impossible for Vinnie to keep his hands to himself. He’s too antsy to settle for a long cuddle, but how could he possibly not put his arm around her hip? It’s right there! Same for her legs. All that lovely space and he’s supposed to keep his tail from wrapping around? Unfair!

Vinnie + Charley
A/N: Oh the ship that should have had more confirmation.
Mostly Martians are hyper monogamous, picking the partner they fell for first and spending their entire life with them
So everyone’s considered Vinnie very lucky for finding a second love in Charlene
And Charley has no idea what to do with him, really
Human lady is not used to Martian Mouse
But that is mutual
Vinnie first goes about courting her the way he would a Martian Mouse girl
And that is very ineffective, because Charley finds him a bit overwhelming
And bit by bit Vinnie adapts his flirtations to suit a more human style
Which secretly impresses Modo and Throttle
Vinnie has always had a hard time adapting ingrained behaviour
But for Charley he will change
So now Modo and Throttle rely on Charley if they want Vinnie to act in a manner more desirable for them
It does not change what a fucken show off Vinnie is
He always looks to impress Charley
And slowly she is growing more and more she is actually impressed and not exasparated
Because the more one knows and understands Vinnie, the more one appreciates what he does
Their first date is so awkward
Martian dates are not Terranian dates
And Charley really wishes to explain Vinnie how to, ya know, Earth Date
He is at first not very perceptive of this
But he cottons on, eventually
He finds their second date utterly boring, but Charley has a good time
And when Charley has a good time, it is cool by Vinnie
The third date is a happy medium and both are having a lovely time
Eventually they become official
To the surprise of exactly no one
Vinnie becomes even more protective over Charley
Like, he will object if she wants to come along in fights
Throttle disagrees here, he knows Charley can hold her own
But Modo kind of agrees, bc Charley is human and frailer than Martian Women
But that is really the only rough part to their relationship
Vinnie is galant, cuddly and very playful
Which Charley rather likes
Eventually Vinnie proposes
In a rather Martian way
But by then Charley is pretty used to that
Too soon though the mice are called back to Mars
And Charley of course joins!
Vinnie and Charley get married on Mars
Modo and Throttle are the best men
Carbine is of course Charley’s bridesmaid
Charley and Vinnie adopt several war orphans over time
Due to their genetic differences they cannot have biological children
But By Mother Mars do they love their adopted babies!
