Simone Biles Teases 2024 Paris Olympics Participation
Tumblr media
Simone Biles Hints at Paris 2024 Olympics Participation Simone Biles, the 26-year-old gymnastics sensation, is dropping hints about a possible appearance at the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris. This revelation follows her remarkable achievement of securing her sixth world all-around title in Belgium just recently. In a candid interview on NBC's The Today Show, presenter Hoda Kotb inquired about the odds of Biles joining Team USA in France, hypothetically betting $100 on it. Biles responded with a hint of optimism, saying, "I think you'd be pretty lucky, Hoda." Biles made history by becoming the first woman to successfully execute a Yurchenko double pike vault during the championships in Antwerp on October 7. This daring move involves a forward-facing landing on the vaulting platform, and the double pike is considered one of the most challenging gymnastic maneuvers. In recognition of her groundbreaking achievement, the vault has now been officially named "Biles II," adding to her list of named jumps since 2018. Reflecting on her recent wins, Biles expressed her motivation in an emotional Instagram post, stating that she did it "for the little girl who fell in love with the sport." When asked about her feelings toward gymnastics, Biles, who married American football player Jonathan Owens this year, shared her perspective. She explained that while gymnastics remains a significant part of her life, it's no longer her sole focus. Biles highlighted that she now has the privilege of returning home to her husband, her dogs, and her house, making her life feel more fulfilling. Simone Biles' return to the spotlight at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships marked a significant moment. After a two-year break to prioritize her mental health, she led her team to a record seventh consecutive title. Biles' impressive comeback continued with a top score of 58.399, outscoring Brazilian silver medalist Rebeca Andrade by 1.633 points, while fellow American Shilese Jones secured the third spot. With this latest victory, Biles has earned her 34th medal in either Olympics or World Championships, making her the most decorated gymnast in the history of the sport, surpassing the previous record held by Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo, who had 33 medals. I’m devasted about Tatiana Gutsu’s confession, for what happened to her of course but also to learn that Scherbo did this... I admired his gymnastics so much and his achievements but this exposure cancelled everything. His behaviour was disgusting and I would never have though he could have done something like this. Tatiana deserves a ton of support, even more when you realise she kept this secret for so many years

“Another day, another record for Simone Biles at the World Championships. The gymnastics superstar has three golds in four tries at the competition in Doha, Quatar, and has set medal record marks each of the past two days in individual events.
With gold on the vault, Biles, who is dealing with kidney stones, set the record for most career world titles.  A silver on the uneven bars, her first world medal in the event, makes her the first American to medal in every event at worlds.
Biles sets record for most career world titles
Biles won gold in the world vault competition, breaking a tie she made less than 24 hours prior for most world gold medals.
The victory pushed her to 13 golds, one more than Vitaly Scherbo of Belarus. Scherbo last competed in 1996 and was inducted to the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2009. He has 23 world championship medals.”

Of course Kohei's greatest achievement & the most impressive ever in gymnastics is sweeping two entire quads in a row with 8 consecutive major AA titles including 2x Olympic AA gold & 6x World AA gold.
What isn't talked about as much is that he also won 2008 Olympic AA silver in his first major international competition. He is not just the only modern 2x Olympic AA champion in gymnastics, but also the only 3x Olympic AA medalist in modern gymnastics.
The only other 2x Olympic AA champions & 3x Olympic AA medalists are from pre-modern gymnastics era: Larisa Latynina (1956 gold, 1960 gold, 1964 silver) & Sawao Kato (1968 gold, 1972 gold, 1976 silver).
I consider the start of modern gymnastics around 1976 & beyond since that's when Worlds weren't held just once every 4 years & gymnasts started doing more difficult salto skills.
From the start of the modern gymnastics era, the only 2x Olympic AA medalists are Nadia Comaneci & Nikolai Andrianov (1976 gold, 1980 silver), Vitaly Scherbo (1992 gold, 1996 bronze), Lavinia Milosovici (1992 & 1996 bronze), Alexei Nemov (1996 silver, 2000 gold), Simona Amanar (1996 bronze, 2000 silver/gold), Yang Wei (2000 silver, 2008 gold), and Aliya Mustafina (2012 & 2016 bronze). So Kohei was not just the only modern Olympic AA champion able to defend his title, but also the only modern Olympic gymnast to medal in the all around at 3 Olympics.

Note
I think what gets me the most about Vitaly Scherbo is that unlike Larry Nassar and the Karolyis he pretty much got away with it. The two gymnasts Tatiana Gutsu named who knew turned out to either have left or too drunk to be aware of what happened. (and I’d love to know how the girls were allowed to drink) And because of how Tatiana was treated any other victims of Scherbo probably won’t come forward
I hate to call it cultural but how those victims were treated fit's very much with the culture. It doesn't help them that Scherbo and Gutsu are now not from the same country.
It's just horrifying but the number of rapists who get away with it isn't small. At least the information is out there.
