Viv’s Top Dystopian/Apocalypse Movies

1. Snowpiercer - 2013

The concept of an entire society having to function on a train is really intriguing to me. The large gap that perpetuates between the wealthy and the poor and the subsequent dictatorship rule echoes a deep and ugly truth that perhaps exists in our own society. It has a rock star cast and a refreshing take on the apocalyptic. 

2. 12 Monkeys - 1995

This movie probably has a different meaning in the context of the current global pandemic. This movie shows that the insane are perhaps the most sane people of all. The acting is awesome (my fave Brad Pitt role) and gets at issues of time travel and man-made destruction. 

3. Interstellar - 2014

If you thought Inception was a mindf**k, buckle up for this Nolan film. Through chaos, space travel and a mission to save mankind, I’m sure you’ll have to view this movie a few times before the real message really comes into view. I feel as though this movie could perhaps be studied and debated in a Philosophy class. 

4. Children of Men - 2006

This movie has a surprising relevance into the question of a deadly virus and immigration (refugees). I haven’t seen this movie in a long time but plan to revisit it very soon in the context of COVID. 

5. Tenet - 2020

Another Nolan masterpiece! Although the concept is a little hard to grasp initially, once you discover the flow of time this movie becomes truly visionary. As well, I think the duo of Washington and Pattinson was really well casted, their partnership seemed genuine and gave that extra oomph at the end. 

6. Bird Box - 2018

I love how this movie really seems to reflect the sentiment that ignorance is bliss. In a world where you could be killed if you look at the reality of your situation, but are in a constant and disturbing fear when shutting the danger out. 

7. Mad Max: Fury Road - 2015

Honestly, still don’t really know what the hell was happening throughout this movie. However, the visual effects and acting are all spectacular and add a dash of kick-assery to your movie watching experience.

8. Gattaca - 1997

In a world where everyone is extraordinary, maybe it’s good to be the ordinary. Everyone’s hot and it’s an interesting concept that this movie pursues via an alternate reality.

9. Legion - 2010

This movie shows the horrific reality of what the birth of a Messiah would look like in the modern day. But, imagine that with free running demons and the apocalypse happening just outside the window of your favourite diner.

10. The Lobster - 2015

Funny story, me and my friend decided to watch this cause there was literally nothing else on Netflix and we’re enraptured but completely gobsmacked but the plot of this movie. There is something inherently likeable in the characters even if you can’t really follow the rules of this particular society.

Some days I'm like yeah, I have a reasonable number of animals and then some days my mental checklist goes

- feed & medicate dogs

- let dogs outside

- set up new humidifier for animal room

- start putting protective tubing over cords in animal room

- refill water bowls and bottles

- help Jack feed 3 cages of rats, hedgehog, hamster

- let dogs outside again

- remember there's a snake meal in the fridge

- let dogs in to go to bed with Jack

- pause to put snake meal under hot water

- feed cats so they stop following me

- feed snake

- update to do list of cleaning animal room, cleaning cat boxes, & steam cleaning rug from a dog accident to include cleaning bedroom humidifier to get it working again for snake

All just after 7 & around also gathering clean laundry, getting lunch for work tomorrow, refilling my own water, and wondering if I forgot anything.

WHY did you make me even have to go through the motions of blocking her again for the third time now?! (The second time I blocked her being when she was trying to actively Block Evade me through sending me an anon in order to bypass the fact that I had blocked her the first time.)

These are the kinds of Big Name Fans that have made just being in this Fandom seem insufferable at times to begin with: The people who archiving the majority of information as it goes active, just objectively aren't very good people with like, the absolute worst taste in everything else and I despise them.

Vivziepaparazzi... Medrano and the Image of her fan base deserves better than it's loudest voices.

Yes, these are exactly the types of fans I've always wished would be the loudest "Positive" voices in the fanbase, and thus be representatives of both Medrano's work and the overall Image of her fanbase to all of the Adult Queers outside the fandom space for the rest of us...

Something I've noticed about Viv while spending time in the critical side of the fandom is that Viv tends to take designs, ideas and writing without giving credit. (E.g many people didn't know she didn't write much of the HB pilot)

And I've realised this extends to her animations of fan music as well.

Take a look at the title and description for fan song Liquid Gold by Paranoid DJ for Lackadaisy

Not only is the Paranoid DJ's name in the title, it's the first words. You're directly told who's responsible for this lovely piece of music so you can search them up if you want, and the description tells you to follow them and where to find them.

For Hazbin Hotel's most famous and beloved song, Addict, by Silva Hound though:

A mention of Silvahound is nowhere to be found in the title. It is in the description and video, but so many people have no idea Addict is a fan song because the title and the way it's presented makes it feel like it was officially made by Spindlehorse or someone else.

Look My Way by Paranoid DJ, who as you know also made Liquid Gold, is a fan song for Helluva Boss with no mention of the true creator at ALL

There's nothing. He isn't in the title or the description. He is in the video, but he's briefly listed at the very end of the credits where most people just click off and don't watch. Almost no credit is given and multiple people (including myself until recently) have no idea this is a fan song. There's just no credit, so everyone assumes this, like Addict, was made by Spindlehorse or someone else.

What makes this even worse is, it's a general agreement that Addict is the best Hazbin song, better than the ones in the pilot and Look My Way is an excellent Helluva song next to House of Asmodeus (which is one of the only good songs from HB imo).

So Viv is refusing to properly credit the artists, the FAN artists that took their passion for her shows to create music for something they loved, that helped raise Hazbin Hotel in popularity and tug at the feelings of Helluva Boss fans respectively.
