At the time of which I speak, Holmes had been back for some months, and I at his request had sold my practice and returned to share the old quarters in Baker Street. (The Adventure of the Norwood Builder)

DELIGHTED by the dual reveal in these two stories that
Watson used to be a rugby player
Sherlock knows jackshit about rugby
Literally no way to lose with this combo. Watson trying to explain the rules to Holmes for the nth time only to get a lighthearted yet unbelievably frustrating "ok but why tho". Watson taking Holmes to the game only for Holmes to be awkwardly taken by surprise when the crowd cheers all around him (he was too busy trying to deduce what that one player's household looked like). Watson excitedly detailing why what this one player did was Brilliant while Holmes stares blankly until he goes "OH" "what?" "Is this what you feel like when I rant to you about medieval music????" "...yes <3"
Watson has 100% cried at least once while trying to explain this stuff to Holmes. Sherlock was too busy looking at the pictures of university!watson in the rugby team to notice
