what i love about the Famous Actor Natori Shuuichi of it all is that...it's not just that he's famous and therefore widely recognizable wherever he goes. like yes that is very funny because he was an exorcist before he became a famous actor, which means he CHOSE, on purpose, a day job that would make it harder to hide his double life/secret identity from the hordes of his adoring public, but it's more than that. it's not just that he's famous, it's that he's famous specifically for being an ACTOR, aka a person whose job it is to dissimulate, to make believe, to inhabit roles and emotions other than his own. like he decided he was going to become as visible as possible (which again was literally not necessary! he could have gone into any other career for his day job!!) but in such a way that everyone would see him but no one would see him - they would just see his various made-up personas, including the Famous Actor Natori Shuuichi persona. i can't decide if he's a genius or if he just made so many absurd decisions that they canceled each other out and circled back around to working out. he's either playing 9-dimensional chess or he's eating the pieces. too soon to say.

#the other thing i love about it is that in a very real sense it's his actor day job that is his alter ego #being an exorcist is his normie job. he's just a famous celebrity on the side #which isn't that uncommon in secret identity setups but it's still very funny #natsume's book of friends #natsume yuujinchou #natori shuuichi #natsuyuu meta #my posts #f #i think probably the actual answer is that acting was a very natural career choice because he already masks so extensively #both to hide that he can see things other people can't (and that youkai exist and that he exorcises them)#and to hide what he's really feeling so that no one can use it against him #so if it's already something he has to do & he's good at it...why not have someone tell him exactly how to do it & get paid for it?#and the other part of the answer is that most ppl don't go into acting assuming they'll get famous. the fame was a side effect #so each decision as it was being made probably made perfect sense. but put them all together #and you have this hilarious assortment of elements that seem to directly contradict each other #okay also i would be remiss if i didn't mention the other possible answer which is that the attention came first and was unavoidable #and the acting developed from the need to protect himself from the attention that he was going to be attracting no matter what he did #because he's so beautiful. and (in the exorcist world specifically) because he's the last of the natori #the more i talk about it the more i'm like no becoming a famous actor was the only path that made any sense for him lol #1) he's gonna be watched no matter what bc he's him -> gotta figure out how to hide his secrets -> learn to act as self-defense #or 2) he's got secrets -> he's gotten a lot of practice hiding them -> hey you could make a career out of this!#all roads lead to actor natori shuuichi. and since he's beautiful...all roads lead to FAMOUS actor natori shuuichi #i love it when i ramble so much in the tags that i end up contradicting my own post lol #he's neither thinking ten steps ahead nor is he irrational. he's simply making sensible individual decisions #that follow logically from what is available to him and what his priorities are

You see, now I’m hyper-fixated on G1 Monster High and Ever After High, mostly Ever After High, so now I want to start a rewrite AU thing of my own and use the disappearance of Hexiciah Steam’s team as a catalyst for the crossover. Like, the Evil Queen returning is Act 2 or 3 of the crossover, secret final boss type thing. Act 1 focuses on the missing steampunk dilf. I’d also reorder or cut somethings entirely from both series.

Like, the Catacombs under Monster High are a eldritch nightmare realm constructed by an ancient monster race known as the Builders. They’re near impossible to map out due to their impossible size, full of impossible illusions and tech, just random weirdness. Well, what if the impossible stuff that monster kind doesn’t understand or can’t make sense out of is the result of magic not native to monster kind? What if the Builders used some Ever After and Wonderland magic in their creations in addition to monster magic and tech? What if it spanned several realms?

And like, we’d get the ghouls investigating because Ghoulia finally made progress on her research into what happened to Professor Steam and discovered that the last report of this mad scientist was he was going to go down into the Catacombs with his team to finally prove his Builders theory correct. Cleo is extra interested and invested because the name of one of the listed team members? Her long missing mom. Also Lagoona actually comes along on an adventure for once.

On the Ever After side let’s let Darling be the one to be doing research on magical locations for a school project and figure out where the lost entrance to the Labyrinth is. Idk, some of the girls go with. Definitely Blondie for her Mirrorcast, which means Dexter’s going too because camera man. Cedar goes because of all the fantastic art that’s said to be within the Labyrinth and also “I cannot tell a lie, so if we do find the Labyrinth my word will be proof that this isn’t us pulling a hoax-us-pocus”. Apple and Raven cause we need them, they’re the main characters (and Apple and Darling need to develop together so the Dragon Games payoff is like, a payoff). I also need Briar to come because I love her and this is my self-indulgent rewrite AU thing. Also I can totally picture her telling Lagoona that Gil’s family ain’t shit, love is love, make out with that boy in front of their house while flipping them the bird. Ramona and Cerise because I want a “Werewolf? No, wolfwere” interaction and also for this whole thing to end with Ramona getting Clawdeen’s number. Enemies to lovers arc, annoying little sisters in full force, all that.

I also would want Cupid to come because I just want them all to look at her like “Cupid, you have some explaining to do”.

Idk, I could have it that later when the Evil Queen escapes via something in the Catacombs/Labyrinth it’s revealed that she manipulated things by causing the exact right people to find the exact right documentation at the exact right time. Casting spells from her mirror prison like the villainous queen she literally is.

wip wednesday...it's me...ya boy....refusing to let people forget nick suzuki is not white lol

Cole’s played with Nick for so long that he feels unbalanced when he’s on the face off against him for the first time. His dark intent eyes and the determined line of his mouth; Cole’s seen that look from right beside him for almost a decade. He never thought he’d be on the receiving end.

Nick’s skin is a warm brown against the white of the Canadian’ away jerseys, something Cole has seen hundreds of times in Montreal, ten years in, and has never been particularly taken by, but he looks warmer, here, even though they’re in Switzerland in February and it had been a long, long Montreal winter before they’d even gotten on the plane.

He didn’t get a haircut before the NHL took a break for the Olympics and Cole is suddenly desperate to know what his hair looks like now, if it’s messier under the helmet, if it tangles and curls, or if it just stands straight up. Nick’s usually pretty strict about getting a haircut, but there was a long road trip before they broke for the Olympics and the last time Cole saw Nick, his hair was growing out in ways Cole had never seen.

He looks, hmm. Dreamy is a word for it, maybe. Maybe that one Montreal gossip blog who named him Quebec’s most eligible bachelor in January had the right idea. Cole had made fun of him for weeks when he got the promoted post on Instagram but he sees the potential now, the shape of it.

Cole grins at him. Nick’s mouth doesn’t move.

“Switzerland’s beautiful in the winter,” he says. The ref is still shouting at Kirby and Trevor at the other side of the circle about how they won’t quit knocking each other around.

Nick looks at him but doesn’t say anything.

“You look better in red and blue though,” says Cole. “The white jersey, I dunno. You do better with a little color. Gonna be glad to see you out of it.”

Nick blinks.

“Maybe tonight,” says Cole.

Nick says, “fucking—Cole, are you this much of a maniac with everybody?”

They bend down. The ref puts his whistle in his mouth.

“No,” says Cole. Nick makes a face. Cole laughs. “You’re the only Canadian I’d ever cross those borders for.”

“Either pull the fuck up or fuck off, Caufield,” says Nick, but the corners of his eyes are crinkled, before he turns determined and intense again.

The ref tells them to shut up in French and drops the puck. Nick swipes it.

I think a lot of hunger games takes that revolve around "the movies are exactly what the books were warning us against" or "people picking a side of the love triangle are ignoring the point of the books" just vastly underestimate the message. like the point goes so far beyond "oh the capitol people are bad for watching the games for entertainment"

#obviously that is a part of it particularly with the first book but if anything that's not a point that needs to be proven or developed #it's reflection on the ramifications of war and whether it can justified (which is of course where the love triangle is integral)#(and I'd also argue the point isn't even that all the capitol people are necessarily evil they're just people #which can again be related to the love triangle e.g. gale not understanding why katniss would care for her beauty team's wellbeing #vs peeta being appalled by the idea of a final games for capitol kids)#but anyway the main thing I'm saying here is that the point of the books (and movies) does not begin and end with 'hunger games are bad!'#talking #thg

Wille decided that he can use the society to stop August from blackmailing Simon with the pill bottle and runs to Henry's room to get him to start gathering everyone. He bursts through the door and finds Henry curled up in Walter's arms and they're watching a movie. They jump apart and clearly look absolutely terrified and Wille immediately says "I'm so sorry I should've knocked" and the boys just sit they're looking scared and Wille closes the door and says "you know I'd never tell anyone right? No matter what is or isn't going on here is none of my business and to be honest, I've had my fair share of gossip for a lifetime." Walter starts trying to comfort Henry who is still totally on edge and quietly says "you'd have every right to tell everyone after what I did with you and Felice" and just looks so upset. Wille replies "look, I get it. If I walked in on the crown prince... And I wasn't me... I get it. We're fine and I'd never do that to you." Henry finally relaxes a little and clutches Walt's hand, breathing out and saying "thank you Wille. You are a good person." And Wille just smiles his tight lipped smile and says "yeah well we'll see what you say in an hour. I'm sorry, we've gotta have an emergency society meeting. Can you help me round up the boys?" Henry nods stiffly and Wille leaves the room to give him and Walter time to talk. He has a little smile to himself before hurrying off to gather the others.

twas a gift to hear this human read out loud

Back in my mid-twenties when I decided I would, in fact, go to university after all, I studied history, the sciences, and educational theory w/a smattering of art. Very little literature, minimal poetry. My lifelong self-directed education on poetry has been, at best, cAsUaL. Which means I came to this experience with so.little.knowledge of Seamus Heaney or his work. WOW. The combination of Heaney's words + Ben's voice was a most excellent morsel to whet my appetite for more.

TY @amongthejumbledheap for posting about this in person + virtual event. I never would have known about it if not for your post. 💜 I sipped some citrusy-mint-water + thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Naruto is adamant on stopping Sasuke with his means of achieving a goal but not the goal itself. VOTE1 was about Naruto stopping Sasuke from leaving the village to go with Orochimaru (and this was Sasuke’s means to gain power to avenge his clan by killing Itachi). Naruto wasn’t stopping Sasuke from the revenge, exactly. Another example is VOTE2: Naruto wasn’t against the revolution (which is Sasuke’s goal) but he is against the means to achieve it as the aftermath of that is Sasuke being alone (this is why Naruto is actively trying to not let it happen again). It would’ve been nice to see Naruto and Sasuke working together to bring the much needed revolution in the shinobi world. To achieve true peace, to end the cycle of hatred--the answer is love. And it starts when you consistently choose that person above all else--beyond the corrupt system and its rules that bind, beyond your dreams, beyond the world and its wondrous offers--because everything is pointless without them by your side, it’s a joint effort, a partnership.

okay though, i am sort of dying over the izzy’s like a little kid who feels like his friend was stolen away comment from con as much as i am the he’s too emotionally immature to identify love (and call it such) one.

the love thing is like... i think sometimes when we talk about izzy and love we end up at cross-purposes because we’ve all got a different working definition of love, and i’ve always fallen into the bluest eye camp where love is never any better than the lover; so izzy can love, in his izzy way, and not have it resemble any healthy definition of love on EARTH.

which is why it’s so perfect he never labels it? izzy doesn’t do any honest introspection! if he did, he wouldn’t be fuckin izzy. so he just feels things, surges and ebbs of something he won’t name. dude’s got this ugly, thorny thicket in his chest, and to reach his own heart he’d have to thrust his hands inside the ugliest, sharpest parts and then own them, get to know them, and call them his own.

izzy’s not emotionally mature: his love is nameless and childish.

which is why the kid thing is perfect? because the way izzy deals with ed trying to change and stede... existing, the reaction of a child: they stole my friend. they broke his brain, they changed him; he’s mine, and they can’t have him.

( ‘that bitch stole my man’; not NOT an adult version of this same logical fallacy. )

because the adult truth is people do not get stolen. they make choices and new connections, and nobody cast a terrible spell over them to turn them into someone new: they just liked those people too. and it’s entirely normal to feel jealous and possessive over a friend, or long for people to be what we want them to be so they can love us like we want them to love us.

but lucius is the one who actually has that one right: people in love don’t own each other. nobody stole our man or our friend, and acting like they did does a disservice to everybody involved.

god, i love that.

#look i know fandom Disc Horse tends to get... weirdly processed #so writing about why a character is not good at something or needed improvement or fucked up gets taken as being negative #we like us a compliment sandwich at best!#and then that crosses into weird binaries like 'if you hate the white guy so much shut up about it'#but this show crafted fucked up lil guys of varying flavors on purpose!#discussing their flaws isn't an exercise in negativity imo #but rather engaging earnestly #i really do not think the answer to the general izzy weirdness is 'shut up about izzy' but rather 'tilt the angles of examination'#or stede and fatherhood etc #because the ways in which these characters fail and fall short and fuck up is BEAUTIFUL #it's a growth narrative! ed and stede both needed to do personal development work #i love them for growing! i don't scorn them for needing to #i just feel like the point of the show is in part about being kind and honest at once #and how honesty lacking kindness is a problem but so is kindness lacking honesty #one is cruelty in a loud way: the other a slow poison #anyway i just really love these writers and the world they created

#it was cool at first but now I’m grinding my teeth like wtf #I was okay with it at first bc like. he defeats the beautiful cold hearted prodigy by a hairs breadth and we get this sad backstory for her #which could be better’d by the MC who doesn’t fear her and can teach her how to socialize and become a brighter happier person through their #developing friendship and potentially romantic relationship and it could have led to character development for both of them as they struggle #through the feeling of being cast aside as an ‘other’ by society and learning how to stumble through a relationship that involves #communication and admittance and honesty #something our MC and FL can’t get through their mentors #instead we get her genuine attempts at becoming friends being brushed off by him who assumes she’s going to eventually want a romantic #relationship by the end of it and ARGHHXHHD she’s a shy person!! she’s trying her best!!! you asshole!!!! and then the author has the #AUDACITY #to make her continue yearning after this guy who doesn’t give 2 shits about her and she’s only used as a support character for the #ensuing battle and then he promptly leaves her behind for his own adventure #and don’t even get me STARTED on the lack of compatibility with the other women in this story #they aren’t even being used as potential love interests they’re just there so the author can say he added strong female characters and then #IMMEDIATELY turns around and makes them fawn over this 19 yr guy who cAn pRoTeCt ThEM AnD HEs sO cOoL FUCK #I was holding out but now he just annoys me dude this is why I don’t like reading male lead perspectives if there’s a DROP of romance #it ruins it! romance is dead no one knows what chemistry is they only want to be fawned over by women to stroke their egos #not a reblog

like 'i wanna go' doesn't mean he's suicidal, it means 'i've developed friends and family, i've grown, i've experimented and discovered who i am and made peace with it, i've loved everyone i needed to and they loved me back and i know that now. i can let go of the idea of glory and just be with family for the time i have left. i'll sit with ed until i go and tell that i love him, tell him it's okay that i'll be gone because he has people who care for him, it's not just me anymore, i can trust stede to love him, watch him become who he wants to be, i can tell him that i want him to be happy, that he can leave blackbeard behind and be who he is outside of being the legend we made together. ed's loved and protected, the crew is safe, my family is taken care of, and i've done everything i need to.' he doesn't mean 'i wanna go because i don't want to live' it means 'i wanna go, i'm ready, i lived my life and i can let go now' izzy died happy and fulfilled, he died in the arms of the man he loved, surrounded by people who loved him. the crew mourned him by celebrating lucius and pete's love, they mourned him by going forward and avenging him, forming a new family and crew to carry on the legacy of piracy, and most importantly ed is mourning him by doing exactly what izzy told him to do, he's letting blackbeard die and allowing himself to be loved, he moves into a little house with someone who will always love him with izzy's grave and memorial in view, and izzy will always be with ed in so many ways, but especially because he gave him permission to let go of his darkness and become someone better
