I'm not trying to deny Carlos' trauma from being in the desert otherworld but he's so bleak about his experience there in It Devours! when we literally hear him be enthusiastic about studying it and actively avoiding coming home because of it. Not to mention he made friends with Kevin and several giant masked warriors and their giant dog who helped him build a lab but acts like he was basically alone doing nothing.

He's either lying to Nils or to himself. Then again, it's much easier to focus on the negatives. In this case, even his hyperfixation on the DOW ceased to be a thing and he started to feel homesick and not enjoy the DOW or its inhabitants as a whole thing. 🤔 Negative experiences can outweigh positives and he's not the best at explaining himself or being truthful if he thinks the truth will hurt. Complex man, this Carlos the Scientist.
