We just finished watching Better Call Saul, and decided to do a rewatch of Breaking Bad to follow the story through.
We're still in season 1, and I'm amazed this show ever developed a Fight Club problem.
Walt's ego is the central theme of this season. He absolutely refuses to depend on anyone else, even when he critically needs it. He has this Randian-superman self-image, where he's the only one with a brain in the room and he can use that amazing creative genius to outthink any problem. He doesn't even think he needs Jesse; in his mind, Jesse's job is to do the risky parts and provide plausible deniability.
And every one of his I'm-so-smart solutions causes him bigger problems, usually very quickly. Every. Single. One. Hell, half the time someone says it's stupid on screen.
How the hell did this loser who thinks he's great but fucks everything up become aspirational?

Tempted to add to the "most fucked up thing that happened to you in school" thread, but honestly don't know what qualifies as most:
The time they thought I was a school shooter;
The time they deliberately made me miss my bus and eventually called the cops because I wouldn't let them steal from me;
Or the time I got expelled over a Batman joke.

A terrible realization just hit me.
It's basically axiomatic that the American left has dogshit PR, and I think I know why:
The right wing's core constituency is corporations dealing in intangibles and essentials. Finance, real estate, medicine, media, etc.
PR firms, the sorts of major ones needed for national political campaigns, fall under that umbrella.
The left's PR will always be worse, because it's fundamentally in the interest of the major PR orgs to skew right.
I don't know where I'm going with this. It's just disheartening, really.

A while back I recall seeing a post about orange-peeling techniques - some folks took it off in a handful of pieces, one person shredded it, and one absolute madman sucked the juice out and then pulled the drained fruit from the husk. But my own technique seemed completely unrepresented - and I had neither a photo nor an orange handy.
Without further ado, I present the orangenis.

That last post gave me thoughts and feels about Batman Beyond: Meltdown. I'd either missed or forgotten that Waynetech cured Nora Fries, and in retrospect, it adds a whole new layer to the episode.
Why did Bruce have to give up the suit? The naive, obvious answer is the one we're given at the beginning of the series: His health is failing, he's not physically capable, he had to cross one of his Uncrossable Lines just to survive. But Meltdown shows us another reason tht's just as important: He's too cynical to be Batman any more.
Batman in his best incarnations, and especially BTAS Bats, is all about reducing trauma in the world. He doesn't want others to suffer the way he did. His rogues, broadly speaking, are people who experienced a serious trauma and had a mental health crisis about it. Time and time again, we see him approach them with compassion. He genuinely wants to help them heal, above all; he'd stop fighting in a heartbeat if they didn't endanger other people with their trauma responses. Even as they're trying to kill him, he keeps insisting that things can be different if they'll just let him help.
But in Meltdown, we see a very different Bruce. By this point, he's lost that compassion. He's bitter and cynical, certain that his rogues are flat incapable of changing for the better. Even as Victor Fries dedicates his own life to undoing the damage he's done, Bruce is distrustful, just waiting for him to turn. He's been embroiled in the crusade for too long. And what's more, he's been alone for too long.
Terry helps bring him back from the brink, in the long run - we see a more compassionate, gentler Bruce elsewhere in the series. And that, I think, is important too. That's the real function of the Robins and the rest of the fam: He needs someone younger and more optimistic to fight that cynicism. He had to retire because carrying on the crusade alone was destroying him, turning him into the very thing he used to fight.
It's a beautiful dynamic, and really shows why DCAU Bats is best Bats.

The death of tumblr live is great, except that my mobile dash keeps doing this thing where it inserts the Live bar, then goes "oops I wasn't supposed to do that," removes it, and in the process randomly kicks me 1.5-3 posts away from where I was.

Absolutely loving the current trend of tumblr ads where someone tells their Touching Personal Story of how Product(tm) made their life better, with "Paid actor" or "Creator paid for participation" emblazoned across their face.

Just finally got Cyberpunk 2077 working and... it is an Experience.
Something is wrong with one of the major infrastructure mods, such that the game will just silently ignore all input with them on.
But it will CTD if mods are not enabled, even when there are no mods.
Behind no less than four extremely flickery transitions, there's a warning that this game may trigger epileptic seizures due to flickering animations.
My very first sidequest was "Oh shit my dick is malfunctioning, get me to a ripperdoc ASAP!"

WAIT WHAT
Somehow, after years of being on this helolsite, I just noticed...
(Or maybe they just changed it during my absence or something idk)
You don't have to go to someone's blog to block them (on desktop at least).
The meatball at the top-right corner of the post, same as you'd use to grab the link, has block and report functions built in.

BIOS: BIOS wants display
display: display failure
BIOS: display failure
(but when it works it does mean you don't need to configure display resolution/modeline manually)
But it's not giving an error beepcode, either. (No POST LEDs on the board.) It just powers on, silently, and the display goes from "no signal" blue to black, and then it... sits there. But it has to be the display because the moment we change it out it's fine.
